It never ceases to amaze me how quickly this thread moves! Congratulations to those who have gotten good results from tests/scans and to those who have found out the gender! Also, congratulations and welcome to the newbies.
I had my 16-week midwife appointment late at 18 weeks on Friday (I had been travelling at 16 weeks) and finally got to hear the bean's heartbeat for the first time! It was amazing. I've got an Angelsounds doppler which someone gave me, but haven't been able to pick up the heartbeat myself yet. It doesn't seem to be nearly as sensitive as the ones the midwives use. Really looking forward to my scan on 3 Feb!
I also can't believe the comments some people make about the size of our bumps. I try to attribute it to ignorance, much like the irritating people who asked whether the pregnancy was planned. So rude!
Interesting chat re food. I've also read a lot about this, and agree that it's the ripening process that is the main issue with cheeses, although if you're following the strictest advice, you'd be avoiding mould-ripened cheeses as well as unpasteurised cheeses. Someone mentioned peanuts...I was super strict with my diet at first and avoided them, but have been eating them since reading more updated guidance that suggests if you do not actually have a peanut allergy, you could cause more problems by avoiding them than by eating them as normal.
Swanny, I'm in Surrey, only about 15 minutes by train from Wimbledon. Is there anyone else in this part of Greater London?
Mummynumber2, I've also got a proper bump but mostly feel movements below it. At my appointment on Friday, though, the midwife found the heartbeat just below my belly button, so the baby is up there after all. The baby is quite active at this stage and has loads of space to move about, so maybe we're just more sensitive to the movements lower down?
Off to make Pad Thai for dinner. Getting the flu jab tomorrow - my midwife has finally convinced me!
