8rubberduckies · 18/01/2011 16:08

Oh sasamaxx I'm physically wrecked every Monday after taking my 2 year old to his swimming lesson nowadays... I support him on his tummy or back whilst he splashes and sings nursery rhymes for half an hour! Wish I could manage 18 lengths! (Hmmmm, note to self, must start getting fitter in time for labour).

Jer79 · 18/01/2011 16:23

Hi,
So good to meet other June people! Is anyone else giving birth at the John Radcliffe in Oxford? I am at 17 +5 so nearly the end of my 18th week. Extremely excited about the 20 week scan, and it's been great to read how some of you have been finding them.

Anyone else been experiencing spd/psd?

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 18/01/2011 16:28

Oh fuck a duck. I've just burnt the sushi rice. Now what am I going to do for dinner. How am I going to tell DH?! I warned him my brain had shut down during the afternoon.

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 18/01/2011 16:43

Moog I don't feel this one as much as I recall feeling DS. The MW said that it's normal as I'm more busy this time running around after DS. I also think this one is just more laid back in there.

My sushi was going to be smoked salmon (yummmmm).

Welcome to the club Jer. You're just a few days behind me Smile and I also have SPD. It's damn painful, but a good excuse to have a bath tonight Grin.

Feeling a bit Envy at those of you quaffing the wine back. I have no desire for alcohol anymore. And I know if I did have a glass I'd just feel really drunk for a few minutes then feel really hung over, so there's just no point. That doesn't explain why I've had a couple of dreams where I have been drinking though.

Now all I can think about is sushi DAMN.

Moog72 · 18/01/2011 16:52

Welcome jer.

I have just ordered a duppler from Amazon - exciting!

Moog72 · 18/01/2011 16:53

*doppler

crumbletastic · 18/01/2011 17:03

Blinking heck, what did the put in the water in September in oxfordshire, half of you ladies seem to be from there. I'm in the NW like clarkie, and I think somebody else.

Moog- I will be finding out the sex, I probably wouldn't if I wasn't so convinced it was a boy. I sort of need to prove myself right or wrong iyswim I'm not fussed about which sex it is but I am beyond convinced it is a boy. Also, I felt movements later with this preg, than ds1 and they don't seem to be regular to me but i think i am just too busy to notice them, not that they are happening less.

Well done on the 18 lenghts sasamaxx, I need to be motivated to get active but can't seem to force myself. Might try swimming whilst ds is at nursery tomorrow, I have a day off work and usually do an hours cleaning then hardly move from the sofa all day Blush

jasmine51 · 18/01/2011 17:03

Hello Jer are you me? I'm due 16th at the JR, think I'm a week ahead (at the moment). Its a long story but I'm desperately trying to row out of having to go to the JR as (aprt from Silverstar) they have really impressed me with their hopelesness. Have a mtg with my MW on Thurs to discuss.
There are a couple more of us on here who are Oxfordshire ladies, I'm sure they will be along to say hi soon.

Now the rest of you...will you stop talking about food...I've just eaten a whole packet of smoked salmon thanks to your chat!!

8rubberduckies · 18/01/2011 17:10

Welcome Jer. I also suffer from SPD - had very little info /support out my way in first pregnancy but am going to make sure I get all the help I can this pregnancy, and have different midwives. I have just started feeling the first twinges recently, and have been suffering with a sore lower back / sciatic pain for a month or so now Sad. On referral list for physio sessions.

What helped for me last time was sitting on an exercise ball, both for pain relief and strengthening / toning the area, and also doing prenatal yoga. I can't afford the yoga classes this time around (a tenner a session around here Shock) so am on the lookout for a good book with prenatal exercises in if anyone knows of any? I started a thread up last night under pregnancy topics but have not had any responses yet.

Jer79 · 18/01/2011 17:37

8rubberduckies Thanks for the spd tips. It's calmed down a bit this week, but it's a real pain when it takes over.

Jasmine Yikes, if you are trying that hard to get out of the JR you must have a pretty good reason to doubt them - all I've seen so far is the website tour and been in for scans. I think the midwife-led set-up in Wallingford is meant to be absolutely brilliant. I want a light epidural so can't go there, just the JR.

On forbidden food, I really miss red wine. Not exactly a food but if you throw in some blue cheese and it's kind of a meal Smile. Not that there's any chance of that combination for about 22 more weeks.

mrswantstobeamum · 18/01/2011 17:46

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly this thread moves! Congratulations to those who have gotten good results from tests/scans and to those who have found out the gender! Also, congratulations and welcome to the newbies.

I had my 16-week midwife appointment late at 18 weeks on Friday (I had been travelling at 16 weeks) and finally got to hear the bean's heartbeat for the first time! It was amazing. I've got an Angelsounds doppler which someone gave me, but haven't been able to pick up the heartbeat myself yet. It doesn't seem to be nearly as sensitive as the ones the midwives use. Really looking forward to my scan on 3 Feb!

I also can't believe the comments some people make about the size of our bumps. I try to attribute it to ignorance, much like the irritating people who asked whether the pregnancy was planned. So rude!

Interesting chat re food. I've also read a lot about this, and agree that it's the ripening process that is the main issue with cheeses, although if you're following the strictest advice, you'd be avoiding mould-ripened cheeses as well as unpasteurised cheeses. Someone mentioned peanuts...I was super strict with my diet at first and avoided them, but have been eating them since reading more updated guidance that suggests if you do not actually have a peanut allergy, you could cause more problems by avoiding them than by eating them as normal.

Swanny, I'm in Surrey, only about 15 minutes by train from Wimbledon. Is there anyone else in this part of Greater London?

Mummynumber2, I've also got a proper bump but mostly feel movements below it. At my appointment on Friday, though, the midwife found the heartbeat just below my belly button, so the baby is up there after all. The baby is quite active at this stage and has loads of space to move about, so maybe we're just more sensitive to the movements lower down?

Off to make Pad Thai for dinner. Getting the flu jab tomorrow - my midwife has finally convinced me!

swannny · 18/01/2011 18:01

mrswantstobeamum Great! How far along are you? Maybe we should grab a coffee? I'm in Raynes Pk/ Wimbledon way :)

jasmine51 · 18/01/2011 18:10

Jer I'm pushing for a quick transfer to Wallingford after delivery, which I have only just found out from ladies in my aquanatal class is an option I can try for. I have to go to the JR, no choice there, and the best result for me would be to remain under the care of Silverstar who I trust implicitly...then have a wonderfully smooth delivery at a time they need my bed so want to kick me out asap!
Are you on the Wallingford side of Oxford too? that would make 4 of us.

re crumbles comment about what is in the water around here...two theories...there are several military bases in the area that are fertile grounds for sprouting a good supply of babies...maybe there was a large scale return from Afghanistan around September..hmmm. Second someone said (rather harshly) that there are alot of public sector and university workers who are trying to avoid being made redundant!!

Right, off to yoga now
x

Clarkiee · 18/01/2011 18:53

Ha ha on Oxfordshire theories!
Yes crumble sure there was another North West based person on here. Where are you?

Just had some viewers round our house (it was too late to cancel them by the time we had the offer)feel a bit guilty that even if they put an offer in we won't be selling to them.

DH has read in the contract that even if we sell it privately if we are contracted with the estate agent then they take a cut- huh Confused. So going to go with the 'can't afford to move, too late in pregnancy' line need to cancel. Don't see why we should pay them over a grand when we've found our own seller (a family friend). Thats the pram and car seats paid for Grin

I have been sooooo tired today - sat in the staff room with my eyes shut for a good 15 mins at lunchtime. Still waiting for the second trimester energy boost!!

smellyeli · 18/01/2011 19:04

Agree about tactless bump comments, and have also had the 'was it planned?' question a fair bit. Although before I had any children, I did once ask a colleague who had conceived via AI with her same sex partner whether it was planned, so I guess I have some sympathy for people who just say stupid things to fill a gap in the conversation Grin

Exercise ball is just the best thing for SPD. Other useful things - sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees, holding your (nonexistent) belly button in whenever you get up from a chair, and putting a plastic bag on your car seat so that you can spin round and get out of the car with your legs nicely together...... And last time I had a rather attractive beige girdle that I wore under my clothes in the third trimester. God, pregnancy is so chic, oui?

Clarkiee · 18/01/2011 19:46

Has anyone booked anetnatal classes yet? Booked mine today for every Monday in April. Since read, on NHS website, that if you have twins you should start from 24 weeks (mine were booked when I'm 30+ weeks) bit annoying because I told the person who booked them it was twins! Will have to ring back tomorrow. Luckily I live in a big town so don't mind if I need to travel. Think its going to seem very 'real' when the classes start!

MainlyMaynie · 18/01/2011 20:17

Clarkiee, I've booked ours. Doing NCT 'intensive' ones which are over 2 consecutive Saturdays, as that makes it easier for DH to come.

mrswantstobeamum I've only been able to pick up the heartbeat on the angelsounds for the last few days, it's great now I can but I was going to throw i away before!

I haven't felt any movements yet, but i'm only 17 weeks, it's my first and I have heard the baby move with the doppler!

LisasCat · 18/01/2011 20:28

Jer79 I'm Oxfordshire too, but aiming for Wallie MLU. Will be JR if I have complications though. DD was born at JR, because she was 2 weeks overdue so I had to be induced. My own experience was mostly positive, but I did feel slightly forgotten, because I ended up in an unplanned (and un-paid for) private room, which the staff then proceeded to overlook, as I wasn't 'officially' in there, and DP had to hunt them down to give me the check ups we were expecting.

I had a massive bump yesterday, and several colleagues eyed my stomach with suspicion, clearly thinking "she must be pregnant, that can't just be xmas turkey" (I have told people, but am leaving it to the grapevine to spread it throughout the whole place). Then today a laundry crisis meant I had to squeeze into a really tight skirt (bloody painful), which held bump in, and I'm sure they were thinking "oh, hang on, maybe she's not pregnant, in which case....she seriously ate ALL the pies"!

milliemuffin · 18/01/2011 21:15

Moomin - I'm still shattered aswell. DPs been great getting up with the kids and I said it would only be until week 12 maybe 13 but nearly 17 weeks and still ready for bed at 9pm every night.

Hi ladies, hope you're all well.

We went for dinner at Aroma tonight, it's a Chinese buffet and as we left I noticed a sign on the door saying alot of the food isn't suitable for pregnant women. I don't like shellfish or chicken satay and I only had rice and the usual meats so I think I should be ok.

Unfortunately DD didn't like anything apart from crackers so she ended up filling up on snacks from my bag, all high in sugar so she's still wide awake and playing downstairs!

DPs 40th birthday tomorrow so early night for me. Sometimes I feel 40 aswell (especially after the thick grey hair I found earlier!) but then I remember I'm still only 31 :) for a couple of months anyway.

Night all xx

Ps. I was desperate for a wee earlier and had a rather unpleasant little accident when I sneezed. Hope it's just a one off and not a sign of things to come, I've never been very good at pelvic floor exercises and this is my third so maybe I should make the effort.

motherofsnortpigs · 18/01/2011 22:05

millie DO THE PELVIC FLOOR THING!! My DH plays this horrid game when I'm pg of seeing if he can make me wet myself laughing. It is very mean as when anything gets too funny it also hurts my ligaments so I am doubled up in agony and crying with pain, laughing and wetting my knickers all at once - not pretty. But it amuses DH Hmm

sarah How are you doing? When DH had suspected leptospirosis he was quite unwell and had been working in stagnant water down at Southampton docks and then admitted to forgetting to wash his hands before eating his sandwiches...fool!

Hello Jer. I'm in South Oxfordshire. I've had 2 babies at the JR. They are both ok :) I've also had one at home. He's ok too, and a whole year old on Thursday. Can I ask why you want an epidural? I am hospital/needle phobic and couldn't imagine ever actually wanting someone to stick a tube into my spine. (I've had it done as 1st baby was emcs, but I was very, very high on gas and air and lack of sleep by the point they sited the epi.) But enough of my horrific birth story. The other two popped out really easily and it was very satisfying and I can't wait to do it again Grin

After feeling utterly shocking on Weds/Thurs, I went to the GP, who recommended I had some bloods done just to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong. tbh I am pretty certain the problem is living on biscuits and almost nothing else. I have been very disciplined and cut all refined sugar out of my diet and therefore have had to fill up on 'proper' food. I made savoury flapjack yesterday. It is a bit weird, but fills me up without messing with my blood sugar too much. GP also caught me unawares and gave me my flu jab - the full seasonal one. I was very, very brave. MW is coming on Thursday evening to do my bloods and I know she will treat me to chocolate afterwards. I think I'll be desperate enough for the sugar to face the needle by then...

jasmine stock pile all the baby stuff in the storage you've been given and I'll introduce you to the delights of the NCT sale. Once I know what flavour this baby is I am going to have a MASSIVE clearout of clothes. Scan on Thursday (busy day for me) but in my best birth plan I want my DDs to tell me the sex of the baby just after it's been born. I am not planning on them being in the room, but it took them all of 10 seconds to rush in after their baby brother appeared in the bath! Sarah who leads aquanatal on a Monday was the 2nd MW. I promise I will come to aquanatal soon.

sasamaxx · 18/01/2011 22:18

8rubberduckies and crumbletastic - I need to point out that the only reason I was swimming is that DD goes to the creche for an hour at the sports centre on a Tuesday morning, and I have to do something while she's in there. Believe me, if I was allowed to sit in the jacuzzi/sauna/steamroom, I would soooooo be there instead of swimming.
Anyway, 8rubberduckies taking kids swimming is way more work than going swimming yourself so your work-out is harder than mine Wink

jasmine51 · 18/01/2011 22:38

mother can I borrow your dh - I haven't laughed til I wet myself since I was about 10 and would love someone to do that to me!

bananarama05 · 18/01/2011 22:56

clarkie be careful on the estate agent front (I work in that line of business, vaguely, without being an agent myself or working in an agents office) and if they've got you signed into a sole selling rights agency agreement they're well within their rights to chase you for a % of their fee and knowing what moneygrabbing lovely people they are they wont't give a monkeys if you're pregnant/terminally ill/bankrupt. Just keep the sale very very quiet and I'm sure you'll be fine :)

My antenatal classes start mid march, if I'm 20 weeks now I'll let you do the maths on how many weeks I'll be (due June 4th) as my brain has gone to mush and maths never was my strong point!

mrswantstobeamum I'm exactly the same, obvious bump, lots of really low down movement but at my 16 weeks appointment my mw found the heartbeat near my belly button so thanks as i feel a bit more normal now!

I wish i could go to aquanatal, all the classes round here are mid-day, mid-week. No use for anyone with a 9-5 with an hour for lunch and no desire to rush back to work stinking of chlorine with soggy hair!

motherofsnortpigs Absolute Grin at your DH's awful game, sorry but that did make me smile! I think yours must come from a similar school of thought as mine.

On the wine front, I for one am looking forward to a bloody huge glass of red. Just the one mind and it'll last me hours but I do hate poncing about with small glasses, not really sure why!

bananarama05 · 18/01/2011 23:01

ooh meant to say 8rd have you looked at any yoga dvd's at all?

I can't make any of the classes locally as working late on the night they are on but quite fancied giving yoga a go. I wondered if a DVD might be better than a book for being able to follow along with it, rather than having to keep stopping and reading but I started looking, got all confused by the variety and ran away and hid from amazon for a bit and haven't looked again since. Confused

mouffloncake · 18/01/2011 23:45

kara & jbells thanks for the 39wk ma tip off. My salon in tiny, I'm the only one doing beauty so will need to find cover for when I'm off. I've worked so hard over the past 9 years to get to where I am, I don't feel I could take 39wks off :/ I wish I had a crystal ball.

Jasmine We go to Cyprus every year for ny & generally weather is around 16-20, much better than here slrho you will need warm clothes. Go for it!! Where abouts are you thinking?

Today's scan went well, all looked good although no clear pics due to the curled up position of lo :/
We were due to see the consultant after to go over the scan but gad to walk out after 2 1/2hrs of waiting as I had to get back to my salon. Will have to try & rebook.
