A shiny new thread for a shiny new year. Grin

40wks I agree you make some fab friends through new babies - even if your old friends have kids if they don't live near you'll really rely on the new ones - you just have so much in common and can talk about breast feeding and poo consistency to your hearts content Grin

delia I was set on a water birth last time (lights down low, portishead on ipod) last time and ended up with a c-section and was absolutely gutted. So my advice is read up on the different options but have an open mind about what might happen on the day. My "I'm having every drug going" friend ended up with a water birth in midwife run unit (4 hr labour for first baby :-0) and my " eart6h mother" friend got in water bath, felt sick and refused to go back in and stayed lying on bed for rest of time...
I haven't read up on anything this time but I have a feeling will literally shit myself if I do end up going into labour as have forgotten everything I read the first time oops

I saw earlier that we have had some/a baby on this thread already? I must have missed the news over xmas - can anyone fill me in?

CantwaittoPopsy · 04/01/2011 15:45

p.s. here is my new non-festive name Xmas Grin oops Grin

CantwaittoPopsy · 04/01/2011 15:49

Sorry lou didn't see your post before
you sound super organised (am now panicking about blinds too arghh)
Don't think about your weight - is only time to enjoy getting bigger so I say love every guilt free minute of it :-)

Lulabel27 · 04/01/2011 16:25

hi all

Thanks for starting the new thread i've been out of the loop for a while as the threads go so fast and i've not really had anything to contribute! But now I can say baby is due "this month" it sounds scary!

37 weeks tomorrow...

Congratulations GinaGB thats great news and it sounds like a straight forward labour too!

I've just written my birth plan today, I finish work next Friday (at 38.5 wks) but don't have much to do so will have more time for mumsnet preparing to finish. Need to do hospital bag this week - does anyone have a link to whats needed to go in?

Washed all 0-3 mth baby clothes, blankets and sheets in fairy non-bio - smells divine!!! Can't wait now....

PDR · 04/01/2011 16:50

Just weighed myself and I've gained 1.9kg since booking. Must have put it all on over Christmas as I had not gained any weight when I last weighed myself Blush Still it is almost 5pm and aren't you meant to weigh first thing in the morning?!? I wonder how much of that could be the baby? Growth scan on Monday so hopefully they will tell me!

tadjennyp · 04/01/2011 17:16

Popsy, GinaFB had a little boy, Alexander, 4 weeks early and Jacks' twin girls Lucy and Katie came on Christmas Day. As far as we know they are all still in SCBU, but doing well.

Highlandgirl the first 6 weeks or so will be a complete blur and then he/she will smile at you and you will fall in love all over again! A rather stern midwife once told me that if your husband takes sandwiches to work, make sure he leaves a round for you in the fridge so that you can grab something quickly. Have lots of easy to grab fruit and snacks in the house too, as you may find feeding takes an age and you are starving and exhausted and need to cram something quickly! How about one of those insulated mugs (they do them in the UK, don't they?) so you can have a hot cup of tea and not be at risk of spilling it everywhere.

Hope everyone is having a great day - I'm off for some acupuncture shortly!

roundthehouses · 04/01/2011 17:50

evening all! i had a scan today and baby is breech which i wasn´t expecting. have to go back in 4 weeks (will be 37 weeks) and if he is still breech they will book me in for a c-section the following week. Full stop. That was totally the extent of their comment on the subject. So of course I am now madly googling ways to turn breech babies. I am already going to the chiropractor so spoke to him and will go twice a week for the next few weeks to see if that helps. Might try acupuncture too. Would like to avoid a c-section, they don´t let partners in with you here and that alone really stresses me out. Plus more nights in hospital away from ds1.

Was reading Ina May book to try and get in right mindset - last time i had epidural and it IS bliss - when it works (which mine didn´t for a long time and during that time I was immobile on bed with pitocin drip) - but I would like to try and stay at home as long as possible this time before going in so was hoping it would give me some coping techniques. Feel (temporarily) disheartened by the hospital´s attitude today though. Was about to book mw for a couple of private antenatal classes but know wondering if it would be a waste of money and if I should just wait til after 37 wk scan to see what the plan is?

EauRouge · 04/01/2011 17:53

roundthehouses, did they not even offer an ECV? I've heard that hypnotherapy and moxibustion are quite effective, not sure on alternative type therapies but anything's worth a go.

debka · 04/01/2011 17:56

Can't believe how busy this thread has got!

Delia you don't need to make any decisions- just make sure you know about all the options and see how you feel on the day (or night!). I just had gas and air and honestly never felt I needed anything else. Would have loved a waterbirth but they don't have them at my hospital and I am high risk (fat bird) so can't go to the midwife led unit.

Went to Ikea today and knackered myself out- thought I'd go into early labour in the 30 minute queue for dinner!! So that's the plan when we get to 40 weeks- Ikea trip to induce labour!

roundthehouses · 04/01/2011 18:07

no they didn´t! tbh i remember reading about ECV when i was pregnant last time and thinking i probably wouldn´t go for it but i was surprised i wasn´t even offered it. and that they didn´t advise any exercises or anything to try and turn the baby.

the worst would definitely be going in without dh, the rest i can kind of accept and get on with but i don´t want to be alone!

WanderingSheep · 04/01/2011 18:13

Hello everyone!

I'm so tired I've read the thread but I've forgotten what everybody has said! Confused Blush

Oh yes, thanks Breastmilk for the info re varicose veins! That's good to know, that I would probably be able to get them done!

RoundTheHouses I also would have thought that they would offer you ECV to turn the baby! It's got a few more weeks to turn though I suppose. Get on all fours scrubbing those floors woman! Grin

wigglesrock · 04/01/2011 18:41

Roundthehouses dd2 changed position from breech at 35 weeks, so its possible all will go ok. This little one is also breech (I'm 35 weeks), I'm going for a scan next week to discuss options. There are a couple of breech threads in childbirth that may help.

Deliaskis I remember being the same re pain relief after my NHS classes, I wasn't sure at all what do to, I didn't have an epidural with either of mine, but had the devils own pethedine Grin with both and was induced with dd2 (a surprisingly eaasy experience!!)

Just back from learning/interactive/fun experience venue with girls (yawn) they had a fab time, I'm so tired but managed to get some bits and pieces for hospital bag so a little more relaxed.

knittamerrykid · 04/01/2011 18:43

roundthehouses I've seen some excercises on youtube as well, anything might be worth a try.

I had my GP antenatal appointment today, all fine thankfully, as I had a headache yesterday for the first time in 8 months I was sure it was pre-eclampsia, of course; but thankfully no.

I'd love a water birth, but just before I bought the pool thought about meassuring the rooms to see where it'd fit, and my house is such an odd shape that it does not fit anywhere! not even the eco mini birth pools (it'd fit, just not anyone else in the room...)

Tarlia · 04/01/2011 18:46

Hey everyone, thank you for all the support, very much appreciated. Had my blood tests, which they will tell me results when they do. I was hooked up to a baby heartbeat and contraction monitor and given a movement button to push - babies heartbeat was really up and down, which was interesting, she said it was fine. My bp still high but much lower than yesterday, was taken after lots of resting. I've been put on semi bedrest, which means I can go for a short walk if I need/want to but nothing heavy, specifically no hoovering or cleaning and laying down as much as possible. At least I can still go to my antenatel classes.

Hope you've all had a good day and those who returned to work are not too exhausted.

Hope prof is ok, she used to be really active on the thread with lots of fab advice. Hurry back, prof.

WanderingSheep · 04/01/2011 18:58

Tarlia hope your results come back ok! Make sure you get plenty of rest. I know that it's difficult/boring at times but definitely the best thing and sounds like it's helping if your BP has dropped a bit since last time. Take care of yourself Smile.

PDR · 04/01/2011 19:26

Tarlia glad you are taking it easy!

Is Prof the one who also posts on the January thread or have I got her confused with someone else?

I have just battled DS into bath / washed hair and he's now in bed.

Am feeling so lazy have sent DH out to get a takeaway from a nice Indian restaurant the other side of town Grin That'll teach him for being an arse! Apparently he is "homesick" (not from UK) and that's why he is in a foul mood Hmm He uses this excuse quite a lot!

Am chewing on a rennies in anticipation of the heartburn I have to come Wink

TallulahBelly14 · 04/01/2011 19:36

Wow we're super busy today! Sounds like you'd all had enough of resting over the festive period :)

I've finally bought or ordered everything on the list for the baby / hospital bag, so am breathing a sigh of relief. Now I just need to get the nursery ready (i.e. move all the junk to somewhere else in the house). But at least my maternity leave is supposed to have started (doesn't stop them calling me every hour), so I should have more time to do it now.

Lulabel, here's a checklist that might help start off the packing:
www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/labourandbirth/hospitalbag/

Oh, and Lou, I've put on about 12kg I think (nearly 2 stone) so far - I really thought I'd be freaked out about it but surprisingly not. It seems to be all in the bump area, so I'm not toooo worried about losing it afterwards. I'm so looking forward to doing proper sport again afterwards, which is partly why I really really want to avoid a c-section. I suppose that's not really up to me, but I will be putting down in my birth plan that I'd like to avoid intervention as much as possible - does that make any difference?

ledkr · 04/01/2011 19:58

hi all had nice day took dd to see gulivers travels(crap}but sheloved it then the obligatory frankie and benny's.whilst in there themw rang to say that if i stick with the 31st it will be the registrar and not the consultant who does it,not ideal with 4th section so it looks like it will be moved now until 27th or 28th.Not ideal will be in for the weekend and dh will have to change his pat leave, but means i only got 23 days left in my whale like breathless body!!Had to go to matalan today and buy some humumgus pants as yesterday i cracked open the giant ones i had packed for hospital and they were too small Blush
Think they will be ok for after tho cos expect to be a tiny bit less solid.New ones are lush about 8ft wide and black should keep my chest warm tooGrin
In case you are interested, they had lovely nursing bras in there for 6 quid!I dont have real boobs so bought a comfy sports bra for 4 quid to wear in hospital and it came up as 2 quid so feeding bras maybe only 3,might be worth a look potential bf'rs.

lostfromoz · 04/01/2011 20:21

I agree the hormones are super weird...I ordered a piece of cake and a cup of mint tea in a cafe today and I was so overwhelmed by how prettily they'd served it that I wanted to cry. What is WRONG with me??!!!
Also getting quite terrified by the extreme tininess of newborns. Hopefully the NCT classes will fill me with confidence.

ZeroMinusZero · 04/01/2011 20:53

I did want a water birth but am now getting cold feet Confused but it could be for the best as I have no idea what my chances of getting one actually are. Survived first day back at work today, but think I might need to bring forward my mat leave date by a week or two.

Keep smiling everyone Smile

earlgreyismynectar · 04/01/2011 22:17

Hello everyone! I'm sorry I dropped out for a while there! Ended up selling my flat in Nov, just when I was getting nicely complacent about it not selling until at least Spring. That set me in a spin with having to now find a new home... Thankfully the buyers have accepted a delayed entry of late Feb... Added to that been so busy with work which I'm thankfully finished with now & all the Xmas & new year mayhem! Anyway, excuses over, I wanted to spend a bit of time going through this latest thread & catching up & see that congratulations are already in order for Jack & Gina! What lovely news! This is it now! I haven't even packed my hospital bag yet but have started to think about it... Hoping for time to get all of this done in the next week imbetween packing ready to move (argh!!!) Its been great to catch up with everybody, sorry I can't remember specifics but I can contribute! This baby is also moving around a lot and getting into breach on a regular basis, been told I'll be sent for scan if no change by my next appt on the 17th. May not be a home birth after all!... Getting bad heartburn & indigestion too though less frequently now, chewable Gaviscon tablets do the trick for me. Lots of movement & wriggles & kicks from baby though no hiccups yet! Remember that with DD! Anyway, that enough of a me ramble for bow! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! & Happy new babies :o xxx

Breezey · 05/01/2011 01:05

So excited that its now next month, M/W said home delivery would be okay from next week, (will be 35 w) put me into panic as in no way ready for delivery home or otherwise at moment, DH still thousands of miles away ,'till next week. Still waiting for New Girl at work to get started, so I can hand over to her. Torn between reading loads, (it feels a bit like 1st time as it was all so long ago,) and nothing at all, as I'm Worried I might have 2nd thoughtsShock Really impressed how organised some of you are, I'm mainly at the thinking about things stage.

Deliaskis · 05/01/2011 09:00

Morning ladies, hope everyone is well. I was pleasantly surprised with how well I coped at work yesterday. Had been worried about having spent 2 weeks in a snooze-induced haze on the sofa and wondering how on earth I would cope, but actually I was quite perky and just got on with it. Have started to book random days of leave, so feel like the pressure is easing.

Thanks for thoughts/comments on birth/pain relief etc. I have another class next week so will probe a bit more and might toddle off to post on childbirth later today to get some more input.

earlygrey, we're putting our house on the market this week (eeek!) as we have seen a real bargain and want to see if there is any chance of shifting ours in time to get this other house. I too am asssuming it's going to take months and may all come to nothing anyway (i.e. if potential new house gets sold in the meantime we would take ours off the market again), so will be slightly alarmed if ours sells in a couple of weeks!

D

EauRouge · 05/01/2011 10:48

Ha! I'm not organised. I still have to order my birth pool stuff, I was waiting until yesterday's MW appointment to make sure I was still getting the all clear for a home birth.

I did do a bit of shopping yesterday, I got a buggy board from netmums for the bargain price of £20 Grin. Now I just need a spare ring sling, I can't decide which of these I like the best, I'm thinking the blue flower one. The green one is £3 cheaper though and might be better for hiding puke stains. Any thoughts?

smallblackflowers · 05/01/2011 10:54

Hello all!
Maternity leave has started for real from today for me - DH back to work and DD at nursery, so finally a chance to start -mumsnetting- nesting in earnest. The house is like a bomb site and I've got the in-laws stopping over on Saturday night to babysit DD whilst DH and I have our first child-free night away since she was born. Will chip away at it over the next few days.

I nearly passed out in Boots yesterday. They were absolutely lovely to me, entertaining DD, getting me a drink. Even offered to drive me home! I will try and remember to take a box of chocs in for them next time I go in.

deliah glad to hear work wasn't too bad for you. And re pain relief, my advice is to be open to everything and wait and see how you get on before making any decisions. It's going to hurt a lot, but in the scheme of things it doesn't actually last that long(hopefully!). I went into my last birth wanting only G&A, but at one point (for about 5 minutes) was begging for an epidural. I'm glad they didn't listen to me, as I had a quick labour and didn't need it.

Can't believe there is house moving going on! I am exhausted at the thought of tidying up let alone packing and moving!
