Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

earlgrey I had a scan last week at 35 weeks to check if baby was still breech and to check position of placenta. Baby had moved and placenta put of way, I saw nothing!!. It was my only consultant appt and she couldn't tell if baby had moved by feeling because head was so far down, she whipped out scanning machine, showed me head, heart and that was it, no photos,no face shots, no boy/girl hints. I was really pleased baby and placenta had moved so it didn't really bother me.

snowangels dd1 was back to back, took a bit longer in labour but got there in the end, I didn't know before I went into labour.

WanderingSheep · 18/01/2011 13:35

Hi, good afternoon! Smile

Thanks SBF for redoing the stats! Smile I did think about doing them but I only have my iPhone so it's a bit difficult to do.

Angels, DD was back to back. I didn't know until labour. They usually turn during delivery, I think, but DD didn't (she's so awkward ha ha!)

Dreya I never washed any of the new stuff with DD as I didn't realise that you were supposed to but she was fine so I probably won't this time. I only realised that people do from coming on MN. The reason why people on here have said to wash them is because the new clothes could have been in storage, or had chemicals sprayed on them. If your newborn gets a rash from a reaction from the clothes they can keep you in hospital, I think. So, no you're not bonkers for washing them! I probably won't though because I'm lazy if they don't fit I might be able to take them back. I'm washing all of the clothes that we got down from the loft though.

EauRouge · 18/01/2011 13:50

PDR I was dreading a home visit from my HV before DD was born because my bonkers SiL told me that they nosey round your house and tell you off for random things. I don't know if I was just lucky but the HV I had was lovely, all she did was give me one of those red books and explain what she did. She's left now though :(

If the new HV wants to nosey round I shall just tell her to bog off.

ledkr · 18/01/2011 13:57

me too,far too lazy/busy to be washing new clothes.Glad you are ok pdr its weird when you are on d3elivery isnt it?I heard one born last week when beng monitered,it cried for ages i felt like offering to hold it,mine never cried that much when they wmw today they're born.
I rang the mw today as baby is moving much less but still moving, also when i put the dopler on,the hb is strong but i can hear lots of movement but cant feel them.As usual they suggested i go for monitoring if worried but i havent yet as dh at work till late and me and dd have dental appointments.Baby is moving loads as we speak.Has anyone else felt less movements?
I have been so uncomfortable today, perod pains and diarroeah, awfull back ache, have tried to think of contingency plan for dd birthday if i go in early.Asked her if we could postpone her party,"no you cant do that" she replied Confused

wigglesrock · 18/01/2011 13:59

PDR and EauRouge Here in NI the HV doesn't come round before baby is born, I had never heard of it before I joined Mumsnet and I was like Shock. The midwife comes round day after you are discharged from hospital and then a few times depending on how you are feeling, heel prick tests, stitches etc. After that I just nipped up to clinic once a while to check weight etc.

God I dread home visits from my own mother not sure how welcoming I'd be to a HV before the baby is even born Grin

PDR · 18/01/2011 14:30

ledkr I have also noticed a lot less movements but think it's just due to lack of space. DS was a long baby and his feet were a bit bent when they were born as he had been so squashed up! (They are fine now btw).

EauRouge glad they want to visit other people too! I guess it's ok - she was very nice this morning and helpful about DS's speech issues. I suppose I better get used to it what with the midwifes as well!

WanderingSheep · 18/01/2011 14:35

I've never heard of HV come before birth either. There's no way anybody is having a look around my house though! They stay in the living room and can go upstairs to the toilet if they're desperate but all the other doors will be closed!

You'd think that the delivery suite rooms would be soundproofed wouldn't you? It's a bit off putting if you're going in to be monitored or whatever and you can hear someone screaming, particularly if you're a first timer!

DD seemed to cry for a while after birth, to the point where I was thinking, "oh my God! She's never going to stop - ever!" and then when she stopped she didn't cry again for the duration of the hospital stay (except when she had a bath). I was on pins the whole time waiting for her to start bawling.

PDR · 18/01/2011 14:41

Wandering I could keep her in the living room and we have a downstairs loo so no excuse for going upstairs really. I wonder if she will want to see the nursery though? Hmm Depends how nosey she is I guess...

Agree you'd think they would have put in at least some soundproofing - our delivery suite is very new as well so no excuse really! I think there are only 6 rooms and I was in one so I guess they were fully booked Shock Unless someone had twins which seems to be quite common in our area so quite possible...

wigglesrock · 18/01/2011 14:49

Ledkr I'm not feeling great today either, baby is moving quite a lot, I'm doing a lot of running to the toilet, backache, have been really sick (but may blame that on the Ferrero Rocher I devoured Grin) I'm feeling really teary etc.

My dds never cried in hospital, saved that particular delight for coming home, although with dd2 I remember the night she was born, midwives took her for a few hours so I would sleep, the midwife handed her back to me at 6.30am and gave me a pitying look and said "poor you, she didn't close her eyes all night" and three years later we still have that particular problem but she's really cute so I guess that makes up for it Smile

byronicheroine · 18/01/2011 15:23

This thread is moving fast - I just got a new computer (actually, got a computer full stop!) just to keep up, so I'm now fully connected.
Congratulations cler what lovely news.
Whoever it was, sorry can't remember, who recommended spinning babies - thank you so much, he has indeed spun and is now head down. great advice!
I have an antinatal appointment this evening and will ask all my questions about water birth options.
I've washed some baby stuff but only cos I thought i was supposed to - [newbie emoticon] and i suppose it can't hurt.
MIL sent us a big parcel of clothes, which was lovely BUT she's sent us 0-3 months short sleeve things, and 6 month size sweaters and things (will be August in Greece!). Bless her, I'll have to crank up the aircon to get some photos of him in the outfits for her... then donate them to a friend with a more season-appropriate baby!

cookingfat · 18/01/2011 16:25

this thread is super-speedy!
had more 'period pains' in the night, but nothing today. In fact, I feel better than I have for months!!! Teasing baby. It's being v quiet today, so am going to have a double decker (or 2) and count some kicks.
I washed clothes too (another newbie!)...

suzym1984 · 18/01/2011 17:16

Oooh Ledkr it sounds like you might be next! Thanks for your sleeping tips by the way, I used lavender on my pillow and took 2 paracetamol last night and had a great sleep!

Is anyone else getting obsessed with buying things for the baby? I cannot stop thinking about stuff I want/ need to buy!

suzym1984 · 18/01/2011 17:20

Also, I have been having period type pains across by back all day today weird aches down my thighs, could this be baby getting ready?

snowangels1 · 18/01/2011 17:20

Thanks for all the comments re: back to back. I'm very Shock at the fact that you hear screams/noises etc when in labour ward. I just sort of assumed the walls were thick/padded enough to stop that sort of thing. As you all know, I'm in a complete state about the whole birth thing anyway and I'm sure that if I have to hear all those sorts of things on my hospital tour (let alone when in labour) I'll be reduced to a quivering wreck and probably be in floods of tears in front of ebveryone

PDR · 18/01/2011 18:15

When is your tour angels? The delivery suite is usually pretty quiet during the day. When I did the tour a couple of years ago I didn't hear anything scary.

knittakid · 18/01/2011 18:16

Hello all,
just got back from the nct antenatal and we did the holding the ice in your hand thing, have you all done it? it was just unbelievable how well the breathing worked! if you've not done you must try it! very very reassuring (even if pain actually does not relate at all to the real thing...)
Am feeling better about the whole thing, but it is having the opposite effect on DH, so much so that he's asked me to ask a friend to be there as well, lets hope she accepts!

snowangels1 · 18/01/2011 18:22

knitta not done the ice thing, but have my first ante natal class on saturday.

Prd my tour is late morning sat week I think and fingers crossed the walls will be verrrryyyyyy thick Wink

NeedToSleepZZZ · 18/01/2011 18:24

Hello byronic, it's been a while, glad everything is going well and baby is behaving! Grin

HV came to visit me a few weeks ago and I got all worried about the nursery not being finished and did a massive clean but all she did was introduce herself and let me know what would happen after baby's born, oh, and give me the red book and green baby book. She didn't even want a cuppa!

angels i bet your new ward is much better designed but if you do hear something then don't worry as you don't know what you'll be like in labour and most women don't remember what they were like afterwards! on OBEM last night the woman was sure she'd been really loud but she was so quiet...

PDR · 18/01/2011 18:34

angels I reckon that's prob the best possible time as most natural labours start at night and if it's like my hospital they don't do inductions over the weekend unless they are forced to.

NeedToSleep just to confirm then the HV did not want to check the nursery or anything?

lostfromoz · 18/01/2011 19:01

I got my swine flu jab today...midwife said that there are quite a few pregnant women on the ward who were 'really struggling' with it, which put the frighteners on me!
Have been reclassified as higher risk due to fibroids, so can't go to the lovely birth centre...quite worried about this, as I very much liked the idea of an environment where you'd be left much more to yourself and where you had more control over the way it was. Oh well, you have to roll with it I guess.

PDR · 18/01/2011 19:10

lostfromoz sorry you can't go to birthing centre :( what a shame but just think you'd want to be in the right place if you needed any interventions.

Who was filling their freezer a while back? Sorry I can barely remember my own name these days Wink Anyway, what did you fill it with? Am not sure what freezes well tbh!

EauRouge · 18/01/2011 19:18

What's the ice in your hand thing? Confused

That's a real bummer about not being able to use the birthing centre lostfromoz. I couldn't with DD because it was closed on the night and if it's any consolation I didn't give a monkeys after a few puffs on the G&A! If you put in your birth plan that you want as little intervention as possible then I'm sure the MWs will leave you to it. Mine were very good at reading and following my birth plan as much as they could.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 18/01/2011 19:33

PDR that's right, she didn't want to look around at all, she only saw my living room!

PDR · 18/01/2011 19:42

NeedToSleep that's good to know :)

Anyone tried reflexology? I am starting weekly sessions next week until d-day. Apparently it can help with high blood pressure too so all good. MW recommended a women who specialises in pregnancy :)

40Weeks · 18/01/2011 20:04

Oooh pdr it's lush! I had it monthly with ds2 and am thinking about some sessions in the next few weeks. Apparently it's also good to have in the few weeks after birth to help the hormones rebalance
