Hi

Still whispering the good news but is there anyone else out there wishing they had made the most of the Stilton this Christmas? [Wink]

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ursigurke · 18/06/2011 06:56

ssmile, I guess it would be still worth to have one as even with a c-section there are certain things to decide as far as I know.
Where is your partner? Curtain up or down? What about afterwards? (I don't know what options you would have, can you get the baby straight away for bonding, bf,.... or could your partner do it?)
Anyway, I'm not sure about the whole birthplan anyway, last time ours never made it out of the bag :)
I guess I felt more secure about the whole thing as I had thought about my options in advance.

Minkyjj · 18/06/2011 21:28

ssmile - having had two planned csections that both became emergencies I would say that the questions that ursigurke brought up are the main important ones and they tend to ask you these in the theatre or on the way - so worth making a decision before you get that far I think. I have always been asked if I want the baby delivered onto me or cleaned up first (well, their idea of clean isnt mine but thats by the by!) Also things like Vitamin K is a good idea to think through whether you want it. Also worth checking whether you want an anti-emetic drug (anti-sickness) from the anaethetist and also whether you want them to tell you its a boy/girl or to discover for yourself. I also always ask that I am signed up for lactulose (not a laxative but an emolient) and also peppermint water (helps with the trapped wind in the abdominal cavity that often happens after a c-section - the first time I didnt know what it was and it was so bad it felt like a heart attack!) Hope that helps - also another tip I have for you is to check out the NCT website - the fishnet pants they sell are brilliant after a c-section (they dry so quickly and help the air get to the scar area so you heal better. I have also bought an amazing water bottle from them that has a tube attached and will be a godsend when in hospital or breastfeeding as reaching for a drink when you are fairly imobile isnt funny - this clips onto the side of a bed or chair. I will also be taking arnica tablets a week before and after to aid with the bruising and dead sea salts for in the bath (or even normal salt) in the bath is a brilliant idea too for speed healing. So much to think about but also so exciting as its still far enough away.

Today I spent a fortune on baby stuff and I am now 95% there with all the stuff needed. The cotbed arrives on Tuesday - pram and car seat already arrived and now just need a few bits and a wardrobe and changer unit - either way, if it happens earlier than planned it wont be a disaster! Although I still have 12.5 weeks till the csection I am very aware that it could happen alot sooner. I am anticipating 10 weeks but I also have alot of friends who were caught unaware with little ones arriving from 30 weeks onwards so I dont want to leave it too long really! I still have major sorting out to do as everything I have bought has been dumped in the nursery in bags with no further thought!

Well I am rambling so will leave you all to enjoy fathers day with your daddys to be tomorrow.

feralgirl · 18/06/2011 22:07

Sooooo tired today. And now a bit scared at how organised minky is! I do like the sound of that NCT water bottle thinger; I'm gonna get me one of them.

I am getting a little bit panicked that all our home improvements (that we haven't actually started yet) aren't going to be finished by the time the sprog makes an appearance. It is just impossible to get properly organised while I'm still working FT and 90% of my brain capacity is taken up with my job.

Poor old DH forgot that tomorrow's father's day and has agreed to work all day; what a numpty (although, tbh, I am so knackered by the weekend that he prob wouldn't really get much time off anyway).

ssmile · 19/06/2011 07:44

minkyjj big thanks for all tips really helpful. Think I was blocking the idea of planned c sec out. But started dreaming about it last few nights so I know its praying on my mind. Get the feeling from dh &family hey Ho that's what ur doing but for me its still huge deal. My DD 4.5yrs ago was ecsec but I had 1 hrs notice still it so put my original birth plan out the window I wasnt prepared at all for having any 'choices' in pre/post theatre ur post gives me few things to consider. thanks.
Had couple vtired days think another growth spurt even my tubi grip support getting tight will hav to go back to hospital soon to get another me thinks.

redlaura · 19/06/2011 10:22

feralgirl totally share your anxiety. I've worked out that I have eighty days to go. Dave is still destroying the kitchen and keeps unearthing horror after horror. He's still insisting on doing it all himself with help from his dad, which is fine, but I've got some money saved that I'd happily pay towards getting my mate John the builder in.

On the upside I spent yesterday working in the main bedroom. We've broken the back of now and it's looking like something from this century at last!

Slightly scared about how organised you all sound. Because of moving etc I haven't seen a midwife since the 20 week scan. Been seeing doctors though so know all is well. Got a booking in appt at the new hospital on 29 so will get to grips with what I've missed.

ssmile you are scaring me with your organisation!!! Smile. Am I in abject denial??? It's so much easier to obsess about the state of the kitchen than acknowledge the fact that in 80 days or so the little life inside me will be working its way down the birth canal!!! Eeeeek!!!

Back to the paint brushes!

redlaura · 19/06/2011 10:36

Oh... I meant minky is organised. No offence ssmile. Smile I'm sure you're fantastically organised too!!! Have a lovely day all

feralgirl · 19/06/2011 18:52

80 days? EIGHTY DAYS?

Shock

Actually, it's less for me.

77 DAYS?

Shock Shock Shock

feralgirl · 19/06/2011 18:56

Oh and RL, I haven't seen a MW since before Easter (I think I was 17 weeks perhaps). I have an appt this week. But then this is no.2 so noone's really that bothered unless something's wrong!

ssmile · 19/06/2011 22:42

:o no not as organised as minkyj .....yet! Still DIYing ere2 once finished need to start getting things out of loft. Been getting additiced to angry birds on phone of late as I staying up later &later. My body clock definitely shifting of late. Needing arvo power naps then wide awake post 10pm most unlike me! Esp as DD only started sleeping mostly through the night in last 4mths (after 4yrs of vbroken sleep) must be getting ready for those late feeds I used to dread so much......

ssmile · 20/06/2011 18:17

My MW called my iron levels too low hohum I really don't want iron tablets as they make me feel crap. I've tried spatone water in juice before still bunged me up gonna try that florix stuff plus going to have to be much stricter with diet of nuts dried fruit weetabix n steak with OJ. Oh the joys of preg now I've got an app on my phone it counting down the days got 68d till c-sec.
Got a box of baby clothes out of loft my DD dressed up teddy in babygrow n put a nappy on dolly :o they SO small!

Xmasevie · 20/06/2011 21:16

Hi all! 28 weeks today here! Sooooo excited
Diy still ongoing, carpets coming 15 July, that will be so nice to be on fluffy ground again
Had a near disaster last night when we thought all my trips to the loo during night and backlog of paper had caused new loo to block! But after a plunge or two - it's back to normal phew!
My prob with this app is my memory - or baby Brain - I come into
It and forget what who wrote what so trying to comment becomes a nightmare
Redlaura - feeling like you bot so organised on baby front but diy still taking over my life and money
Loomer- Salisbury not far away - could arrange a wee coffee meeting halfway somewhere once babies are here
Can't remember who used to live in Chippenham on here whose moving to
Norfolk but good luck with it. Chippenham ok so far - missing Edinburgh though where we were before. Recession sucks just havd to
Go where jobs are
I'm so tired now
Good night ya all

Minkyjj · 21/06/2011 09:59

Had a shocking day yesterday. Husbands car broke down on the motorway on Friday in torrential rain and had to be towed back from Cardiff - found out yesterday that its a right off as the cam belt (or time belt) broke and will be too expensive to repair as its a fairly old car. Sadly its in brilliant condition and been in the family since new so been looked after. Having learnt that lesson I popped into the garage to seek advice about my car and the garage advised that cam belts need to be changed every 6 years minimum or 60K mile whichever soonest - my car is 8 years old so they kept it in and gave me a courtesy car for the day. Unfortunatley the courtesy car was a pile of poop - stank of cigarettes and was so ancient and barely drivable! In the end I had to ask my mum to drive me in her car for the school runs as I just got too scared! £350 later I now have a new cam belt! We now have to find the money for a new car for husband and next month both the cars will need to be taxed and insured plus mine MOT'd - think that my baby shopping is going to have to be curtailed somewhat!
On the plus side I had a pedicure appointment arranged and tried out the shellac nail coating treatment - thought I would share that it looks amazing and should last for 4-6 weeks - definitely a good move with my inability to reach my toes at the moment!
I am 27 weeks tomorrow and really feeling the strain now - getting so tired and uncomfortable by the middle of the day and suffering from many aches and pains too. Came over very dizzy last week while driving and had to pull the car over and sit for a while. Luckily we were almost home as I was on the school run and the kids were great - scary though.
Glad to hear all your news and wishing you all a good week.

ssmile · 21/06/2011 21:39

Oh gosh minkyj these things always come at once! I lost my golf same way when I was few wks preg with my DD ended up taking train to work &had to manage on mat leave with out it. This time around We actually put car in garage last wk &it too was £350 for brakes n service gulp! On top of DIY no spare £s at mo then remembered We hadn't paid for our caravan hols We going on next wk yet as she wanted cash. Lucky its pay day this wk.
Glad I not the only one having funny turns too. Not that they are nice. Had few dizzys turns when out n about thought it was low BP &iron causing it. But last 2nights almost having panic attack at 2am as wakeup feeling sick then can't back to sleep despite feeling SO over tired. I had been feeling much better with this preg but now feel like the 3rd trimester really hitting me this wk, I 29wk+4d now. Hope others are feeling little more lively?

redlaura · 21/06/2011 23:01

Not much more lively. Been having insomnia too and felt really sick in the middle of the night Sad. I've come to my mums tonight to escape the DIY disaster that is our home. Double bed to myself!!! Yes please. Dave is probably more pleased than me. With all the pillows propping me up he has about 20cm of the bed for him.

Has anybody got recommendations for pregnancy pillows? Sleep is shocking at the mo.

Chin up ladies... Easier said than done
Xx

Minkyjj · 21/06/2011 23:11

smile sounds like you have been having a rough time of it. Money issues always come at once don't they. Hope that you get some good weather for your caravan trip - you are very brave doing that sort of a holiday at this stage - I cant even face the idea of going anywhere at the moment - just the idea of packing and any form of travelling make me feel tired!

The third trimester is hard isn't it, its just starting to come back to me this week - I feel very hormonal again and grumpy and uncomfortable and I think its the combination of sleep issues, indigestion, slow metabolism and sluggishness and just feeling like a beached whale that has no energy that does it for me. Added to which, I am getting a little peeved at the lack of umph coming from DHs direction with regards to getting sorted for this baby. Today I drove 30 miles to Ikea, purchased and loaded (with a lot of help from kindly staff) a wardrobe, chest of drawers and changing top, drove it back and asked DH to unload and take to the nursery. 9 hours later and we still cannot move for boxes in the hallway! I think I must be on a different planet at times and my patience and understanding is fast disappearing as this pregnancy progresses. Either that or its my body telling me that its in need of a serious glass of wine - not long now!
Sleep well ladies.

Xmasevie · 22/06/2011 06:36

Ssmile : cars are money pits. Mines 8 years old too and it's coming to an end really can't afford a new one ho hum
Red Laura - I bought a Preg pillow from
Mothercare, 23.99 it's quite good.I've been having bed to myself for months now, my fidgeting constant trips to loo - hub can't cope, so it's better we are in different beds.
Minky j - well done you got getting all the stuff from ikea. They deliver too -
Ordering a desk and bed for spare room, 35 quid to deliver, when I'm
Spending 700 on goods, i figure the delivery is worth it
4d scan today ladies at 28 weeks 2 days - can't wait!!!!

ssmile · 22/06/2011 07:46

Woohoo slept last night as DH slept on sofa I had bed and lots pillows to myself :o not looking forward to getting through work day as I just get such an urge to fall asleep at 2pm literally cannot keep my eyes open!
Hope ur days all go ok today x

feralgirl · 22/06/2011 20:12

Aw, sorry some of you have had some crap days. Yesterday I was too miserable to even speak by the time I got home from work, my head of dept is such a complete imbecile and she really pissed me off. I can't decide whether I'm being unreasonable and hormonal or whether she really is as crap as I think she is!

But I had a lie-in this morning as had a MW appt so feeling much better. Lots of spectacularly weird dreams last night though; I dreamt that Tiny Tempah's gran moved in to the house behind us and he walked into my house and invited himself to tea!

ssmile · 22/06/2011 21:08

How did the scan go xmasevie I've never had a 4d scan was it good?

redlaura · 22/06/2011 22:34

Yes yes do tell!!!

Xmasevie · 23/06/2011 06:51

It was really good. He or she is double of daddy. Same nose, mouth. Had it's feet in it's face most of the time which is hilarious!! Got 20 images and a DVD. Cost me £100 but given I had to sell my previous take that tickets, I decided this was the next best show, in fact it was even better xx

Minkyjj · 23/06/2011 23:20

xmasevie thats brilliant - what a lovely thing to keep.
Tonight I tackled the tricky subject of names with dh again as we still havent discussed it. I naturally have a shortlist of favourites but with no real input from dh. Tonight he helpfully suggested that he had managed to speed read the 20,000 baby names book in 3 minutes while on the loo. Clearly dh must have lied as we all know that no man spends just 3 minutes sat on the loo - such a task requires at least half an hour! Maybe thats the key though to speed them up - give them a task! Anyway, he helpfully proposed some suggestions - Thor, Ziggy and Lester - luckily therefore he has accepted that he is expected to just rubber stamp my shortlist so now I feel we may be getting somewhere!

redlaura · 24/06/2011 08:54

That does sound amazing... Tempted to do it myself.

Good work on the name front too! Potential controversy seems to have been nicely sidestepped there!

We have no hot water for at least a week. Just boiled the kettle to do the washing up and am off to my mums for a bath. Sad southwark council have to give us access to the communal tank so we can install new cebtral heating. Just getting in touch with the right person is proving very difficult!!!

ssmile · 24/06/2011 20:18

xmasevie glad it went well sounds lovely idea.
I wondering if I getting braxton hicks as tum going rock hard vuncomfortable. I didn't get them with DD1. Or its bad wind :o Ho hum
Off on hols tom wk in caravan in cornwall looking forward to just chilling with DH who I've hardly seen lately as he working such long hrs &him helping with DD.

Xmasevie · 25/06/2011 11:17

Ssmile could well be braxton hicks not had them yet
Red Laura hope your hot water comes on soon
Minky jj - we have chosen our names. Charlotte for a girl, Olivier or ollie for a boy
Went to first nct antenatal class on Thursday was good
Actually just burst into tears mid writing this my dh is an arsehole sometimes. First time I've rest in three hours of helping him and he gives me the most disapproving look. I'm Sooooo tired of this crap. Been awake for three hours in the night, house is a complete shit tip and husband thinks he's the one who should be tired given the work he's doing. Everytime I
Complain of a sore back it's like 'my back is sore too I've been saying for weeks' or this morning he asked me to bend downto get his hammer cos he was tired if bending down!! I was like excuse me, I'm
The one who's 29 weeks pregnant arsehole. Arrrh. Rant over. Am I being unreasonable or is my husband being a complete w**ker.
