Hi

Still whispering the good news but is there anyone else out there wishing they had made the most of the Stilton this Christmas? [Wink]

misty9 glad I am not the only one feeling big this week. In the last 2 weeks have put on 7lbs! (thats 14lb in total now oh er - I didn't weight myself with 1st preg so not sure whats normal) Cant believe its all diet as I've been reasonabley healthy just not as active as normal (ok one easter egg early and some of my daughters birthday cake but thats about it). I have started walking more now I feeling more lively and even did some Wii dancing with my DD this afternoon which made me puff! Got scan this week too which exciting and bit scary.

Hope you all enjoyed a sunny weekend. x

BumpyHeffalumpy · 11/04/2011 21:00

Misty9 I'm the in same boat. Trying to finish my doctoral thesis in economics. Most of it written up but can't face the editing. I've written only one paragraph since finding out about my pregnancy on new years eve and am now on suspension due to the headaches. Best not to put any pressure on yourself at this time.

MW told me last week that I look 2 weeks further along than I am, so I got worried about big babies and gestational diabetes and decided to cut down on the sugar.

I think I'm feeling movements too. Usually at night, in bed when I'm lying still about to fall asleep. It feels very cute. Makes me laugh.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their second trimester.

sumi I had my first privately at queen charlottes and it was wonderful, I had a casarean and they really helped me so much - one midwife sat with me all through the first night to support me with the breastfeeding, they also bathed the baby and taught me so much during the 4 days I was there. The Consultant I had was called Andrew McCarthy - he was southern Irish and a very lovely man. My friend also had her twins and son privately there and also had a brilliant experience - either way you will be very lucky so dont worry too much, its only a short amount of time and although it seems like such a huge decision at this stage it will work out well for you I am sure.

Ladies - glad to hear all your news, sounds like its going well so far for most of you. I am just approaching 17 weeks and have a midwife appointment tomorrow. Still have another 3 weeks to wait for our 20 week scan and really cannot wait. Wish I could decide whether I want to know the sex or not as I need to persuade DH against asking if I dont want to know. I have managed to stay awake this week much later than I was managing and have actually had some get up and go back to get some jobs started that I have avoided for weeks. The morning sickness is nearly all but gone, apart from the odd occasion but nothing like it was - I am definitely sure now that it lasts for me until at least 16 weeks as that has now happened with all three.

Meerkat11 · 12/04/2011 09:25

Hi all,

Nice to hear everyone's news, though too much to remember it all properly! Glad headaches seem to be improving for those sufferers - I've had a few the last couple of days along with an intermittent sore throat, so not sure if I've just got a cold on the way...
Haven't felt any movement that's definitely baby yet - but the odd twinge or such like. Definitely have a bump now though and like others, this has suddenly sprung up the last few days (I'm 19+2) - think it was looking at prams / buggies over the weekend that did it ;-). Got scan next thurs, so looking forward to that and further proof that all's ok...
Thanks for all the advice re. sleep bras - didn't even realise they existed, so the info was much appreciated - now have 2 carriwell comfort bras, and they're doing a great job, even if they're a bit itchy and completely unattractive!
Talking of itchy, my belly isn't itching at all, although I am putting cream on, but I've noticed my back is itchy a lot - is anyone else having this?
Right, hope you are all doing well. Better get back to work ;-).

Sumi76 · 12/04/2011 10:44

lxr1 · 13/04/2011 10:35

I had my 3mth probabtion meeting with the boss yesterday (after being cancelled last Thurs). After he confirmed they want to keep me, I dropped my bombshell Grin
Think he took it OK - his first words were 'Congratulations', then we talked about pregnancy and babies for the rest of the meeting!

Told the rest of work too, and have already had one horror birth story!

Glad it's out in the open now, it's a big weight off my mind!

We have our 20 week scan next week (I'll only be 19+1), and we're going to try and stay strong and NOT find out what we're having. We've agreed that we want a suprise, but it's so tempting, knowing we could find out!

I think my bump has finally arrived, I looked in the mirror last night, and thought OMG I look 6mths gone - I had just had dinner mind you!

Think I may have possibly felt movements too, I've definitely had the odd sensation whilst in a sitting position, and am positive it's not wind!

I hope everyone else is doing OK this week.

feralgirl · 13/04/2011 14:08

lxr1, I just love the way that people who are usually very coy about these things just suddenly start telling you all sorts of horrifically intimate details when you announce you're pg. One of my colleagues spent an entire lunchtime telling me all about her near-death-pph-experience which really made me feel better about giving birth for the first time! Even my boss regaled me with a tale the other day about his sister's current pregnancy-related liver problems. And then said "I didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable!" Shock

I am absolutely monstrous atm and in desperate need of my maternity clothes. DH spent 30 mins up in the loft yesterday but has only been through half the bin bags up there and still not found them; I am so uncomfortable!

Bumpy are you still thinking of HBing? Anyone else planning to as well? I can't decide whether to splash out - ha ha - on a birthing pool or not. Have any of the rest of you else got any experience of/ planning to water birth? I planned it with DS but then he was too early so I had to go to hospital.

feralgirl · 13/04/2011 14:09

Baby is doing backflips right now Smile

Minkyjj · 13/04/2011 19:26

Sumi Thats a shame about Mr McCarthy as he is so lovely. I am sure Mr Kumar will be too though. Good luck. I am at Poole Hospital this time on the south coast.
My midwife appointment went well yesterday - heard the heartbeat for the first time. I am 17 weeks today. Had a call from my Consultant's secretary this morning saying that she wants to see me herself so has to book another appointment - so annoying as it means I will now be at the hospital at 20 weeks and 21 weeks. Guess they are just covering their bases.
A little tip to all first time mums on here - ignore all the horror birth stories that people throw at you - many people have wonderful experiences too but its less of a dramatic story to tell so tends to stay unsaid! Even if people do have a tough time it is only for such a short time and once that baby is with you, its soon forgotten!

ssmile · 13/04/2011 20:58

Had 20wk scan today. Well 2scans an hr apart as they couldn't find all heart tubes on 1st so had to go back after consultant. Relived all looked ok. Also booked for C-sec 26 Aug - does that mean I have to depart Sept bus or can i stay as u nice bunch :o
Good luck to all others with scans coming soon x

BumpyHeffalumpy · 13/04/2011 21:15

Feralgirl Yes, I still really want a HB. It's worth asking your MW if you can borrow a birthing pool as a lot of places actually will lend them for free, all you'll have to pay for is a liner, which costs around £25 to £30. If there's a HB support group in your area, they might have pools to lend as well.

ursigurke · 14/04/2011 06:31

ssmile, that must have been scary for you but glad that you got the second scan so quickly and that all was ok.
And I guess you won't be the only one of us that won't give birth in september as originally "planned" so pleeeease stay with us :)

alibaba1980 · 14/04/2011 09:17

Ssmile I?m glad your scan went ok. I have my 20 wk scan 2 weeks today. I can?t wait as I?ve still not felt baby move so it?ll hopefully reassure me that all is ok.
I?ve had a phone call from my midwife today about the blood test I did for the downs syndrome screening. My sample was damaged in transit so I?ve got to go in to give another one! As I?m 18 wks on Saturday I need to do this ASAP!

ssmile · 14/04/2011 20:46

alibaba1980 oh gosh not good news about the blood sample. I hope they can sort it out ASAP and you get some reassurance.

I do seem to have been bought forward all along with this preg. From 12 Sept to EDD 3 Sept to now C-sec 26 Aug, when we realised I was preg I was thinking 20th Sept+ would be the birth point. I now need to check out the start signs see what little personality I might be in for! Has anyone else had a peak at their little personalities.....?

Minkyjj · 14/04/2011 22:27

ssmile Dont move groups unless you want to - there will probably be quite a few of us that end up having earlier than expected babies - my last two were 3 weeks early and although my due date is 21st September my csection will probably be 7th - 14th sept and if this one arrives at a similar stage to his/her brother and sister I could also be looking at an august date. Glad that the scan went well.

Sumi76 · 14/04/2011 22:43

To All Hey have you all enrolled for antenatal classes yet ?

redlaura · 15/04/2011 12:31

Hello ladies. So much to catch up on today. My headaches have still gone so really do try the eating something at night trick if some of you are still struggling!

Been hectic getting ready for our move, which should have been today but we found out yesterday we won't be able to complete for another 3 weeks so I now have the day off to relax instead. Bit stressful but the most important thing is the baby, right? and on that score it has been a smashing week. Had our scan on Wednesday at 19 weeks on the dot. Fantastic. Baby opened its mouth and then waved at us. Dave looked so chuffed, it's round about now that it is really starting to become real for him, now that I have a bump (ladies, they do come on awfully suddenly) and he can look at our scan picture. I also heard Junior's heartbeat for the first time this morning. a Wow moment!

Welcome to Sumi and I hope you don't feel too off balance being pregnant in a foreign country. My best friend is from Belgium and she is having a little bit of a tough time adjusting. If you're going private though you can pretty much lay the law down anyway. ssmile I really hope you weren't being serious... you wouldn't DREAM of defecting to an august group would you!!!!

I'm a total flake at the moment, forgetting what I'm saying half way through sentences, forgetting names, places, people, appointments and words. My boss has very wisely just recruited for my maternity cover and she'll be starting at the end of May. That means for 4 months I'll be able to share the workload, which is a huge relief. I've been feeling such pressure because with asbestos, gas and fire you really don't want to make a stupid mistake!

Also been thinking about what to do when I finish maternity leave. the idea of going back to a job this stressful is horrible so maybe they'll give me something part time. That will mean a pay cut and probably I'll have to accept going down a grade or two, but I want to find a good balance.

starting to put the weight on too. I'm no skinny chick but I've never been this heavy in my life. Still, baby is as baby does and my mum has already offered to come round two mornings a week so I can go to the gym or running once baby is born (to be honest she is more worried than anyone about my weight, even encouraging me to go on a crash diet when I first found out I was pregnant so that I had some "room to manoevre" stupid woman!).

That's it from me today. I'm going to make the most of this day off and have a nap this afternoon. Take care of yourselves lovely ladies.

Sumi76 · 15/04/2011 14:23

wow laura seeing the baby and waving at you must ahve felt sooooooo good ! awesome :) ya i was very lost a few days back but thats to mumsnet and a local chiswick forum, feeling more grounded !

feralgirl · 15/04/2011 19:04

ssmile, I am fully prepared to be popping in late August so def don't move! DS was nearly a month early but I desperately don't want to have to go to hospital for this one so am going to do everything I can to hold on for the magic 37 week mark. I am so glad that your scan worked out OK, that must've been a pretty grim hour waiting.

Redlaura, your boss souds great, taking on your cover in May is really considerate. My boss has just employed my maternity cover but not to work for with me, in order that she can do other stuff until the end of the school year!

I cannot believe that I am still being sick nearly half way through this pregnancy; yesterday I walked into the loos at Tesco and the air freshener was so strong I vommed immediately Shock and I felt fine this morning, then ate lunch and was massively sick straight after. DH is being his usual unsympathetic self, all he cares about is whether or not I'm going to want fish and chips tonight!

ssmile · 15/04/2011 21:52

Hi im not going any where was just joking about Aug bus :) I like the sept lot!
ferralgirl you have my sympathy I thought I was over the yucky stage and was retching over the sink thursday morning too. Not nice made me mascara run and was running late anyway! Shoved in a biscuit and had to nibble all morning at work hormones felt all over the place again. Ho hum. I figured its babys way of saying "Hello Im still here you know slow down"

redlaura glad your headaches are staying away now and you feeling better. Getting help early at work is excellent. I had ltd help during my first preg and towards to end was in tears more than once as the stress got to me. With in a year of being back at work post maternity I was working part-time and in a lower grade job to reduce the stress (we had baby who didnt sleep well and its was a killer trying to juggle it all!). It hasnt lasted long if I hadnt have got preg this time I was ready to start upping my career again once my DD started school in Sept. I am luckly to work in a big (Gov funded) organisation where this is possible. I am more worried whilst I am maternity leave this time as they are reorganising everyone and with the cuts lots of people have gone already. I had my review yesterday and made it clear I want to be kept in the loop even whilst on leave so I do still have a job to go back too. I cant be a FT SAHM I nearly went mad with first DD, I need the balance so my right and left sides of brain stay happy :o working 3days per week is perfect for me.

feralgirl · 16/04/2011 10:38

Aaaaaahhhhh. Got my maternity clothes down from the loft this morning. Why do I ever wear normal clothes? These jeans are sooooooo comfy!

Sumi76 · 16/04/2011 12:19

ferralgirl as ssmile put it, just the babys way of communicating with u ! mine communicates thru a BAD backache !!!

feralgirl need to stock up on maternity clothes...gap maternity, jojo maman bebe good ?

Misty9 · 16/04/2011 21:51

it's a boy :)
was a bit unexpected as I'd had a feeling it was a girl, but all is healthy and that's the main thing. 20wk scan wasn't quite what I thought it would be - it really was focused on looking at the organs etc so we didn't get a great view of poppyseed :( the photos were terrible as well - you can't really make much out. Can't believe that's it until he pops out now! Two scans seems like not much at all.
Went blue shopping today to get excited about having a boy :) got some very cute things in the Pumpkin Patch sale.

Oh, also found out I have an anterior placenta, which explains the lack of movement I've felt so far. Does anyone else have this? I have felt some light kicks but always really low down, so I'm guessing below the placenta.

Hope all other 20wk scans go well :)

ursigurke · 17/04/2011 12:10

Misty, I agree the first scan is more exciting as you can see the baby as a whole. At 20 weeks it is simply too big to fit on the screen :)
Congratulations on having a boy.

My scan will be on tuesday and I am really looking forward to it. I also have a light feeling... but last time I was completely convinced to have a boy and I was wrong. So this time I think again it might be a boy but mainly because DH absolutely wants another girl so for a strange feeling of trying to be "fair", I think now it might be a boy. But we will be happy with whatever it is.

feralgirl · 17/04/2011 16:09

Sumi, I don't have a huge choice here in Cornwall so my mat clothes are mostly from New Look which is great as is dead cheap and still quite funky. I got most of my work stuff from Dorothy Perkins and a couple of things from Peacocks. The Jojo stuff looks lovely but imo is quite expensive for stuff you're only going to wear for 6 months!

Check out the MN for sale boards for people selling second hand (I'm waiting for some stuff which, new, is way more expensive than I would normally buy).

I like Mothercare bras but I have just got one from Jojo too. M&S mat/ BFing bras are supremely unflattering ime! BTW, I don't see the point in buying maternity bras if you're planning to BF; just buy BFing bras now as you'll be less likely to have to re-invest in 5 months' time.

Misty, congrats on your boy! Sorry your pics aren't what you expected, my nurse at the first scan said it can depend on the equipment they use. My 20 week scans from DS two years ago are incredibly detailed and really fascinating so I hope they use the same scanner this time round.

I am sooooo sick today. Have puked up everything that I have eaten and got an outrageous headache. Sorry for TMI but DH has just done a poo and the smell of it was so bad I had to sprint downstairs and be sick in the kitchen sink Shock
