SIL's given birth to a baby girl this morning. she had to have it at home as things progressed so quickly! they had no time to go to hospital and when MIL rang she had three paramedics with her and the midwife on her way. they're not sure if they actually have to go to hospital now. they are all well. BIL had to assist with delivering the baby!!!
she originally wanted a homebirth, but thought it better to go to hospital.

Dana · 11/10/2005 11:31

Oh Wow Lilac, sounds like it has all happened really quick. It must have been a special experience for your BIL as well!

Prettycandles, how are you? Any news?

Diddle · 11/10/2005 14:45

lilacbump, your sil has been busy, i bet that was a surprise.

prettycandles - any news, how are you, anything happening?

Diddle · 11/10/2005 15:11

have a dilemma ladies, i've bee to the hospital today for some orthodontic treatment and they asked me to have an x-ray I refused because of the baby, but really need to have a procedure done before the baby comes, does anyone think i should risk it?

PrettyCandles · 11/10/2005 15:23

I'm bleeding very heavily, and no longer have morning sickness. I've been to hospital, but decided not to be scanned. I'd rather let things take their course and only intervene if it is necessary.

I'm sorry to have brought sadness to this thread.

Congratulations to your SIL, Lilacbump . What excitement!

Diddle, if it is necessary you can have x-rays - you would in an emergency. You can ask to have a lead apron to shield you. But are you sure you want to have the procedure done during pg? What if you get an infection and need antibiotics (this would be an issue for me, as I have had an infection after dental treatment and am allergic to the first-choice antibiotic treatment).

Diddle · 11/10/2005 16:05

prettycandles - ssooooooo sorry that you're bleeding, are you definitly miscarrying? sometimes bleeding can be normal.

i'm not sure at all if i want the operation, but becuase i have an infection in my gum they told me that it could get worse towards the end of my pregnancy. they said i would need antibiotics after the treatment, which i didn't think i would be able to have either. not sure what to do really. don't want my face to swell up like a balloon in my last trimester, don't knwo what to do. thansk for answering my question, and please look after yourself. I know how you feel have been through miscarriage twice and you need to take it easy and rest as much as you can.

LilacBump · 11/10/2005 17:05

prettycandles, i'm sorry {{hug}}
also sorry if i was insensitive with my story about SIL.

diddle, i personally wouldn't risk any x-rays, but surely dental ones wouldn't affect the rest of the body?

Diddle · 11/10/2005 17:20

lilacbump - apparently they wouldn't have much of an effect but i am so worried i don't know if i should take any risk at all

Trickorflum · 11/10/2005 23:59

Noonee - We have same due date - Hoorah! The race is on!! Although odd to be chatting to someone who goes by the name that we call my dd's ladies bits - hee hee.

WEll done to everyone else. especially those who have been trying a while and had miscarriages to cope with along the way.

Thought I was getting morning sickness on Sunday afternoon but turned out to be horrendous attack of sickness and diarrhea. Not sure what caused by could be a bug or food poisoning (whole family has had it). I rather dimly made a chocolate mousse from raw eggs on Saturday as we had friends for dinner. DD didn't have any though and she has had runs too, not sick though.

I was projectiling like a good 'un. Thought little zygote would end up washed down loo pan, but it seems not so far.

Have lost 4lb though as a result, not bad at beginning of pregnancy!

Anyway all better now.

Trickorflum · 12/10/2005 00:11

Oh God, only just read the rest of this thread.

Prettycandles - So sorry to hear that news. What bad bad luck. Keep having to remind myself that there are no guarantees in this game.

sorry for insensitive comment in last post, re - loo pan. hadn't read your posts then. have appalling ly black sense of humour, alwasy getting me into trouble.

Dana · 12/10/2005 08:56

Prettycandles, so sorry you're bleeding . How are feeling today?

Diddle, can the hospital not advise you of any potential risks?

Diddle · 12/10/2005 12:39

how is everyone today?
feeling ery sleepy this afternoon, i'm fine int he morning

Diddle · 12/10/2005 12:40

the hospital just said that there was a low risk from the x-ray, uselss, gonna call my dentist he'll be honest with me

PrettyCandles · 12/10/2005 13:10

Please, don't anyone feel uncomfortable on my behalf. I agonised for ages whether I ought to mention miscarriage on a due-in thread. But I guess we have to face up to the realities, and some of you have gone through this as well. It's happened, I accept it (25% of all pregnancies is the statistic, I think.).

Good luck and lots of love to you all .

PrettyCandles · 12/10/2005 13:12

BTW, Diddle, if you can take the first-choice antibiotics suitable during pregnancy (penicillin, I think, because that's what I'm allergic to), then I would be inclined to get the treatment completed.

Dana · 12/10/2005 14:20

PrettyCandles, off course you can mention it on here, I am just so sorry it has happened to you.
Lots of luck to you too. Take care of yourself!!

LilacBump · 12/10/2005 18:29

SIL's baby is gorgeous! they've decided on naming her rebecca. there's a picture here of me with rebecca and one here of DD with her.

prettycandles, i wish you all the best {{hug}}

Noonee · 12/10/2005 20:42

Can anyone tell me when I should contact a doctor. Do I wait and then book an appointment for twelve weeks? Also can anyone recommend a good pregnancy book?

Trickorflum -

I've never heard that Noonee is a phrase for woman's bits. I've been called this nickname by my Mum since I can remember. I think I may have to change my name!!!

LilacBump · 12/10/2005 21:27

noonee, after getting a positive test i phoned the surgery and they told me to just come in for some admin stuff. it was just a chat with a receptionist and she got me to sign a few things, calculated the EDD, asked me if i was taking folic acid. i've got the booking-in appointment with the midwife for the 7th of november (at about 11 weeks). i don't know whether it would have been better to see the doctor, but they seemed confident this wasn't neccesary.

Trickorflum · 12/10/2005 23:48

Yeah you just need a quicky appointment to arrange your booking in (12 weeks ish)

I have about 4 Pregnancy books. The best by a million miles is: Sheila Kitzinger - Pregnancy and Childbirth.

She is a bit of an advocate of natural childbirth (not that I managed that last time). But the writing is beautiful and very 'sympatique'

Lots of people seem to get 'What to expect when your expecting' but I think it is American so much more 'medical' biased than 'natural'

Trickorflum · 12/10/2005 23:49

Noonee. My mum says I am calling our toddlers vagina the wrong word. She said she always used noonoo - so there you go. you are safe!!!

Diddle · 13/10/2005 07:18

morning ladies, had a it of a nightmare this morning, dreamt i was in pain, and when i woke it it felt so real, i was really worried, but no pains now so i think its was in my imagination. was terrified that i would run to the loo and lose it all, but i was over reacting.have had back ache as well, nasty. TMI (i do have the runs though)
Quick question, has anyone had painful wind? not mega pain just uncomfortable?

Dana · 13/10/2005 08:19

What a horrible dream diddle. I have had a couple of bad dreams too - one where I lost the baby, and one where I did another pg test and it was negative. I woke up crying and shaking both times.
All last week I had terrible wind , but it has settled down a bit now.

Lilac, she is lovely!!! And your DD is gorgeous too!!

Noonee, I think it is different depending on where you live. Phone your GP and see what they recommend.

LilacBump · 13/10/2005 08:29

diddle, i had a dream i was bleeding... i think it's just part of the worries etc. i had and still have terrible wind.

i feel completely uncomfortable all the time. i cannot sit on the sofa or lie in bed comfy. i walk around all fidgety too. mostly it's my nipples. they are so sore and sensitive. having a shower isn't very nice atm. anyone know of anything that could help with this?
