thank you for such a warm welcome

i been lucky on both pregnancy, never had no morning sickness, infact if it wasnt for the belly growing theres no other signs!!

we had to have fertility treatment to conceive both out babies, so have had scans from a very early stage

so seen scan at 7weeks and 9 weeks, and last week at 12weeks...i did bleed slightly, brown blood for a week, so was very very worried, but all is fine now

i do feel sorry for you girls who have had morning sickness, must be awful

the only thing ive had more of is headaches, i noticed one of the other girls on here mentioning headaches, apparently its the hormones!

anyway, look after your bumps girls

PomsMum · 02/12/2005 10:58

I've been lurking too so probably time to join in the party. 13weeks and 1 day today, edd 8th June. 2nd time round for me, dd will be 1 on Boxing Day. All I can say this one is totally different from the last one - much more exhaustion, sickness and all round feeling sorry for myself, but beginning to feel better now. Midwife's booking in appt later today, nuchal scan done, baby seen, and looking forward to 'blooming' something I didn't get last time round......

snickle · 02/12/2005 12:41

I've also been lurking and have really appreciated the advice/info on mumsnet. Congrats to all of you ladies!

According to my calculations, I'm due 28 June. My first appointment is in more than two weeks - I'm going to be ~12 weeks, 6 days. I was wondering whether the technician doing that ultrasound will tell you findings as they see them, like the nuchal measure, heart rate, etc, or whether they wait to tell you the results at a later appointment. I was planning on waiting to tell my family 'til after my first appointment, but it is happening so late!

I'm originally from the U.S. and this is my first baby, so any advice about navigating NHS and/or the UCL/EGA hospital in London would be very appreciated!

jinglediddle · 02/12/2005 12:58

welcome pomsmum and snickle - you little lurkers you. glad to hear you are doing so well.

Dana · 02/12/2005 14:03

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't been around much, but have been really stressed at work and homelife hasn't been great, so haven't really had much time to think about pregnancy - apart from feeling sick all the time.

Sickness is getting a bit better though. Now it just comes in waves and other times I feel ok. I am still knackered all the time though. It is definately harder this time, when there is also another little one to look after and not getting much support from DH at the moment.

Reached the 12 week mark Sunday, which was nice. Have my next scan on 19th january - seems so far away!!

Just looking forward to christmas now, I am taking two weeks off from the 19/12 - Wooohooo!!!!!
This weekend we have a kids x-mas party at work, which will be good fun. Last year DS was a bit too young to understand what was going on, but this year he is totally clued up on Christmas and loves christmas trees with lights on and he talks about presents and santa all the time. I think christmas will be fun this year ).

Welcome and congratulations to Bubbly1973, mrsbabookaloo (hope you feel better soon!!), PomsMum and snickle!

Lilac, thanks for compiling the list - so many of us

I will try to be a bit more active in the future.....

jinglediddle · 02/12/2005 14:39

Dana - sorry to hear you're having a rough time at home, hope your DH becomes a bit more co-operative soon. men are so odd, i dont understand them at all.
Try to stay calm and stress free.
congrats on reaching 12 wks, i've got my scan on January 19th too, we'll be 20 wks by then, or almost, can't beleive it.

I'll be 16 wks by xmas, wow!!!

Curlycapers · 02/12/2005 16:36

Hello and congratulations Bubbly1973, mrsbabookaloo, Pomsmum and snickle!

Thanks for the stats Lilacbump, I can't believe that there are so many of us due in June!

abbey1515 · 03/12/2005 09:47

Hi everyone, and congratulations to all newcomers!
Just have to warn everyone, I've been pretty good about what I eat, but for first time in ages (as sickness wearing off ) went to the pub last Friday with work for food, and had lovely meal, but gave myself terrible food poisoning for four days afterwards. I'd forgotten that people warn you about eating coleslaw, and it was the only common factor with the people who were ill. It as lovely as well- homemade (I know, the worst sort!) The doctor came out to see me, and said the baby would be fine, but can't wait for 20week scan now! Anyway, sorry for long mail, but just to warn you all to take care!

LilacBump · 03/12/2005 09:50

oh abbey, that's awful. i hope you're feeling better now. thanks for the warning, i often have to remind myself of certain foods not being allowed.

abbey1515 · 03/12/2005 11:46

Yes am feeling really well now. I felt really stupid though- you'd think I'd remember what to eat, with this being the most important thing that's ever happened to me!
Also, some advice needed. I told my work friends yesterday that i have an appointmnet at the hairdressers as have not had roots done for months, because couldn't stand the thought of having to sit in the hairdressers needing to be sick! Anyway, I was grreeting by cries of disapproval. Apparently I shouldn't be having higghlights- I haven't heard this anywhere! Does anyone else get theirs done? Will I have to go through the rest of pregnancy with awful roots?! I'll just have to go brunette otherwise....

abbey1515 · 03/12/2005 11:48

Ps sorry about spelling- computer is double typing everything. You wouldn't believe I'm an English teacher!
Could be pregnany dementia setting in though....

LilacBump · 03/12/2005 12:01

abbey, i was told by a hairdresser that i could only have my hair dyed by threading, whatever that may be. but... i have also read that it is more safe after 12 weeks. my natural colour is growing through with lots of grey... i am going to dye it at home this week, as i look a right mess.

abbey1515 · 03/12/2005 12:15

I know, I was thinking of just buying a toner. I don't know what threading is...I will be about 16 weeks when have it done, but would be awful to o it if it is high risk and am being vain! Feel so fat today- my jeans look hideous! (well, my fat stomach in my jeans looks hideous- no point in blaming the jeans! )

docket · 03/12/2005 13:10

Hi, hope everyone's well.

My stats: 33, dh (also 33) and ds 13 months. Live in NW London.

I think my EDD is 9 June but am unlikely to get any confirmation of this until 6 Jan when I have my first appt with the midwife. I'll be 18 weeks! I'm so annoyed but every time I try and complain / move to another hospital I get short shrift. Since you guys since to have had or be having scans v shortly this is obviously not normal. Will get back on the phone and whinge big time on Monday.

I do finally seem to be feeling less sick and tired though which is good news. Also noticed I have a distinct bump this morning which means I may not be able to hide pregnancy from work for much longer (just been promoted and can't imagine they will be too happy to hear the news..). Oh well, my heart bleeds!

Have good weekends.

LilacBump · 03/12/2005 15:11

abbey, i googled a bit on dying hair in pregnancy and it mostly says it's fine as long as you haven't got it bleached. most websites tell that it is more likely to go wrong because of hormones, rather than there being a high risk to the baby. some of the stuff you hear is so OTT, i actually read somewhere not to varnish your nails either!

Laura032004 · 03/12/2005 15:46

Hello and congratulations to all the new joiners!

I'm feeling very well at the moment, the sickness has all but disappeared unless I overdo things.

Hope everyone else is feeling well - the sickness should be disappearing for most of us over the next few weeks, and then we'll all start blooming

Laura032004 · 03/12/2005 15:50

docket - that seems late for a first appt. I didn't have a scan with ds until 20+ weeks, but I had my first MW appt at 12 weeks when I heard the heartbeat. I have had an early scan due to abdo pains with this one, and have a dating scan week after next.

Have you been to your GP? Could you make out that you are completely unaware of your dates to get a dating scan?

Hope you get it all sorted - it's so frustrating at this point. I was really pleased to have a scan to confirm that there was definitely something in there and that I wasn't making it all up!

abbey1515 · 03/12/2005 16:59

LilacBump- I know, I've stopped everything- I even thought twice last night about moisturising in case that is absorbed- I'm white as a sheet too, with no fake tan!
Docket- it does seem quite late to have an appointment- most people seem to have a twelve week scan, but perhaps that is policy in your area? It seems very unfair, but a friend of mine in Huddersfield had the same problem, and she got a scan by saying she had no idea of her dates so it does work!

mrsbabookaloo · 03/12/2005 17:23

Snickle, a bit of a belated reply to your q, but they will give you a report of the measurements and results right away at the scan, you don't have to wait. At least, I didn't. My husband is from the US and I was abroad from the age of 22 until 18 months ago, so I feel like a bit of a foreigner too when navigating grown up things! But at least I can ask my mum... I don't know UCL at all, but fire away with any other questions

mrsbabookaloo · 03/12/2005 17:25

Sorry, I'm so rude: I should also say: thanks everyone for your warm welcome and kind messages....

Noonee · 04/12/2005 15:55

Hi All

I haven't posted for a while so it took me ages to catch up.

I am now 13 +1 and I am starting to feel more normal and enjoying the pregnancy. I got myself all worked up about the nuchal scan I had last week but actually it turned out to be the best thing we've decided to do. Great result as I am low risk despite my age and seeing our baby was lovely.... and hearing the heart beat is emotional.

Welcome to all the newcomers. Has anyone enrolled on an antenatal course? Apparently you have to book now to ensure a place as they get booked up so quickly. I just didn't realise how busy these courses would be... I suppose it depends on which county you live in?

Flum · 04/12/2005 20:45

hallooo newbies. congrats. I'mm all for secretive pregnancies, am bricking it about telling work as only been there 3 weeks and was clearly pregnant before I took the job, but really wanted the job.

Can't believe that my work clothes are starting to feel too small already, have to pull tummy in incase people notice, probably paranoia though.

bl**dy mouse has attacked our posh mamas and papas pram which I stupidly stored in the shed. am v. cross. DH just said oh it'll be ok, bit of masking tape...... argh...

BabyBelly · 05/12/2005 05:59

Hi Everyone!
We had our doctor's appointment on Saturday morning. Our Doctor did a scan and it was wonderful. We could see our little baby with it's arms and legs moving rapidly. Felt very emotional. Couldn't believe that the baby was moving inside me!
The only problem was that I have to watch my diet. Have put on 4kg already and the baby's size is 12 and a half weeks when I'm only 11 weeks.
I was 52kg before and in just 2 months have gone to 56.5kg! Am also showing now.
Going to take up swimming and yoga. I was told that if the baby grows too big I will have to have a C-section as I have a small frame (only 5'3").
Now I snack on fruits and avoid fatty food
It's going to be hard watching my diet over Christmas....what with all those cookies, cake, etc!

jinglediddle · 05/12/2005 09:33

wow you ahve been busy this weekend, loads of chat to catch up on.
Had my scan on Saturday too, it was wonderful. baby was fine, i had convinced myself, somthign would be wrong. Saw all its fingers and toes, and the sonographer very naughtily did a little bit of 4d scanning as well, which was amazing!!!
My scan before this was 2 weeks ago and the baby has grown so much, its all much more real now.

I aksed her about dating, and how reliable the dates are that they give us, and didn;t all babies grwo at differnet rates, and she said not until 25 wks, right nwo they are all growing at the same rate. so the date they give us is apparently very accurate. not sure if i beleve that, because one scan you're told one date, then the next time you've lost of gained a week. who knows what to beleve.

slinksanta · 05/12/2005 09:50

Hi everyone and hi to the newbies
thats great diddle about your scan, what was a 4d scan like, i think i will go and get one done later on in pg.
it does seem strange how babies don't grow at different rates - i wonder what my next scan will date me as. i am still counting from fridays btw, thought it would be easier, especially until i get a proper dating scan.
i rang the hospital booking people and they said the next available appointment is on the 28th of dec!!! i will be 15 weeks then, i think its very late to book in when i might have an incompetent cervix, my cervix could start dialating by 15 weeks, what do you think i should do?
oooh and for all those who don't know i had a bleed but all is well and bleeding has pretty much stopped
