Hi Ladies,

Many apologies for not posting here very often - I have been lurking but my posting style on MN seems to be a bit sporadic at best!

Any of you feeling quite blue a lot of the time? One minute I feel quite content then the next really unhappy? I'm assuming its hormonal but I'm quite fed up of the up and downs!

My situation hasn't helped much either as we live quite far away from my family & friends due to dh's job and the snow last week meant I was too scared to venture too far out of the house as I don't drive and the pavements were so icy round here, I was terrified I could fall. So 6 days stuck in the house with a bored toddler and a dh that was working away meant that I was quite isolated. Ho hum, hope this week is better.

I am getting terrible heartburn too and swallowing Gaviscon like its going out of fashion. Made an appt with the doc today as I have been getting quite bad right sided rib pain and I rang the midwife and she didn't seem too concerned so going to get it checked out with the gp instead.

Hope you all have a nice day.

Tarlia · 06/12/2010 10:55

Hello! Hope you've all had a lovely week! Lovely to hear about the baby showers, sounds like you've been having fun.

Can I reccomend this, Jack? I've found it's always been a hit.

Loving the festive names, especially Ledkr's!! I can't think of one - any ideas?

hubbard I had my 28 week check the other day and babys head is indeed down, but the MW said its likely to be feet down again at any point as it still has so much space. Baby however has different ideas and is making me feel like I have a ball between my legs! The pain I had in my left bum cheek and down left leg to knee has spread to the right as well now - anyone have any idea what this could be?? MW also made a gender prediction based on babies heartbeat sound, I guess we will see if she is right in Feb! Has anyone else got one of the baby keepsake books? There are bits I could fill in, but wonder if thats tempting fate...silly I know!

Another silly thing, has anyone else got a bit worried about washing the brand new baby clothes? I'm convinced that I will dye them all some random colour and cannot bring myself to put them in the machine Confused I've never done this in my life before, so no idea why I'm so worried now!!

Anyone buying 'bump' a Christmas present? A few people have already bought for ours, but the thought hadn't even occured to me before!!

janedoe25 · 06/12/2010 11:22

Well it has been snowing non stop since 7am, it's a total whiteout yet again! So fed up of the snow now, barely ventured out of the house last week because of it and now looks like another week of being housebound! We now have around 3ft of the whitestuff and still growing................

Hope all you lovely ladies are well and sorry for my moaning one of those days!

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 06/12/2010 11:25

Hi! Smile

Yes, it is quite scary walking in the snow and frost! I slipped over the other day. Nothing major, I didn't hurt myself or baby but it worried me enough to think twice about going out again! I had to go and get DD from pre-school and skidded twice just in the ten minutes it took to get to the school.

Tarlia we haven't bought anything for the baby yet, apart from a pram and steriliser. I think she's going to be a poor deprived child living off DD's hand me downs! Although we definitely need to get her some new clothes as DD was born in summer and the poor newborn will be in short sleeved romper suits in February at this rate! Blush Grin We'll probably get loads in the January sales though.

I didn't wash new clothes last time as I didn't know you were supposed to.

I had my 28 week check on Thursday and was surprised when the mw said that the baby was head down! I guess she could turn again, DD was always bottom down until the end. This one keeps headbutting me in the bladder!

snowangels1 · 06/12/2010 12:30

Speaking of rib pain - how high up are your sufferers feeling it? I haven't had any yet but this morning have suddenly got a horrible pain high up (like about bra wire height) and have resorted to undoing my bra Blush. I know baby can't be that high up but wonder if she's pressing on something that's making that bit hurt....

I had the most horrific indegetion/reflux last night keeping me up for hours and gaviscon did nothing. Ended out discovering that it was much worse if I slept on my lh side, so slept sitting up pretty much. Very odd. I guess baby must be in an odd position or something. I'm still gurgling etc madly today Confused.

Seems a bit of a miserable post here so I'll brighten it up with a christmas emoticon Xmas Grin

wigglesrock · 06/12/2010 13:29

snowangels I feel the baby or a part of it is stuck under my ribs, only from this morning. I undid my bra on drive home from work Blush but it hasn't alleviated the discomfort.

applecharlotte · 06/12/2010 13:37

Tarlia - the pain you're describing sounds like Sciatica (have a google!). I have exactly the same pain down my right side, starting from my bum cheek going right down to my foot! Speak to your midwife at your next appointment, mine has referred me for physio to start next week.

Totally empathise. Its really really painful.

snowangels1 · 06/12/2010 13:54

Yeah wiggles I think it might be a body part pressing really hard on my innards. Actually brought me close to tears just now - could never imagine before such a sharp/nobbly things sticking to my lovely soft organs and causing such pain Xmas Hmm. I'm thinking as I have an anterior placenta it might be worse as my organs arn't protected by placenta (mw warned me I might feel more to my innards).

Anyone know any way I can try and move this baby please, I'm getting desperate here?!

americanexpat · 06/12/2010 13:59

I have no idea what position the baby is in - how can I tell? I feel a lot of "rolling" movements towards the top of my bump with a few good kicks/punches at the bottom.

Semper - My emotions have been quite unpredictable lately. I spent yesterday flipping between rage, tears and being content.

My family in America has asked me to put together a baby registry. Suggestions for websites that carry a wide variety of baby stuff and have reasonable p&p costs? I tried Amazon but found it difficult to sort through everything because they carry so much.

Grannyapple · 06/12/2010 15:24

Hi ladies.

Well not long in from hospital-had what I thought were severe BH. Was awake from half 3,pacing the flat, having peppermint tea & a bath. Poor dh got really worried when he woke at half 4 & I wasn't there. Don't have hospital bag ready so this visit has spurred me on to get one organised!

Anyway after some monitoring, wee tests, blood pressure tests & a cervical exam, turns out I have quite a bout of thrush & they think that's what caused it! Got me panicking now as have never felt cramping like it-what the hell am I gonnabe like come d-day Confused

Anyway whilst there, baby was head down but mw said there's still plenty of room at that point for baby to be in any position really! Still got a dull like period cramp so off for a bath!

Those in Scotland with bad snow again-hope it clears soon. Spoke to my sis in Glasgow-she says it chaos up there at the mo!!

Grannyapple · 06/12/2010 15:26

PS how do u get the Santa hats on the emoticons?!

janedoe25 · 06/12/2010 16:30

Glad you are ok Granny. Im in north lanarkshire, just outside Glasgow it is utter chaos! My OH has been stuck on the M8 motorway since 10am, normally a 10 min drive!
hope he gets home soon. God hope this weather doesn't keep up near due date or i will not g et anywhere near the hospital!

wigglesrock · 06/12/2010 16:45

Madness here in NI, snow came on very quickly and we are now skidding in a winter wonderland!!!

knittamerrykid · 06/12/2010 17:01

Hello all, fully sympathize with all those stuck at home, after rain on fri eve my road (a 25% hill) was impossible to use so we just stayed in all weekend...

Re movements, I think mine is still turning all around, but last night we had a minor disagreement about on which side to sleep, baby wanted one thing and I wanted another and felt very vividly a whole being inside me, fighting my insides, it really brought home the idea of how he's going to have to come out, going through so many of my never-before touched/squashed/stretched organs. Very scary.

angles have you tried a bath? I feel lots of movement when I am having one, and they are more 'free' than outside, so perhaps baby can move better? don't really know.

Hope your OH is home soon jane!

snowangels1 · 06/12/2010 17:08

Love all the festive names Xmas Grin

knitta I ended out on all fours with my bum in the air for half an hour this afternoon Xmas Blush. According to my pg yoga DVD this is a good way to move a breech baby (am assuming that's the chosen position of the day). Felt quite a few movements but nothing too momentus and still have pains/unbearable indigestion. think if it remains another day I'll be forced to ask GP for some stronger indigestion medication, but currently hoping she sorts herself out quickly so I can manage to eat something (haven't been very sucessful on that front today).

I have a bit of a work related query maybe someone can assist me with (might post it on another mn section later though). I'm positive if you're off sick then your maternity leave can be enforced to start one month before due date, but they can't make you start it earlier than a month before EDD. That is right isn't it? Even if you're off sick anyway? It's just I got a message from HR today informing me in a btw fashion that my maternity leave will start TOMORROW as I've been off sick, which is in accordance with the companies/schools policy - I thought this was illegal! I'm not due until 21st Feb and was intending on starting mat leave early Jan. Anyone???? Please???

jackfrost · 06/12/2010 17:42

Angels, you are correct, if you are off sick 4 weeks before due date your employer can force the start of your Mat Leave then. So if you are due 1st Feb for example and have been off sick since September(example) due to pregnancy related illness Mat Leave can be started on 4th Jan. Until then you will be on SSP or Company Sick Pay.

Tarlia · 06/12/2010 17:43

Hehe Wandering I don't blame you, I wish I could have taken advantage of the Jan sales. This being our first, and the first baby within our circle really, we have had to buy everything new OUCH!!

AppleCharlotte Thank you for that, I will look it up. Yes, its really painful :(. Unfortunatly we do not get free medical things even in pregnancy, so they will not refer me to a physio even if I asked.

Grannyapple You poor thing! That must be an awful case of thrush, I've never had cramping because of it before. How are they treating it? Hope you are feeling better soon.

Angels I've just had a dig on the internet, and as far as I can see,l you cannot be put on enforced mat leave before 4 weeks prior to EDD, which for you would mean Jan 24th. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly with more information. Maybe the school have got your due date mixed up with another member of staff?

snowangels1 · 06/12/2010 17:49

tarlia and jackfrost that's exactly what I thought too! And they haven't got my EDD mixed up - this is their actual company policy. Tbh I think it might be that their policy is illegal....

PinkiePoo · 06/12/2010 18:07

Evenin all....

Sorry been VERY quiet, busy busy busy bee.

Bump is HUGE now....anyone worry that are going to need a wheelchair soon, ha ha i think i may!

i am 28 +2 now, but last day or so my movements have been very small. I won't say i have felt nothing because i have but the tiniest little movement. No real kicks, which is odd. Starting to worry now, i am sat down as i type this, and she is usaully active about now, but nothing.

Any advice...or anything which may ease my mind, as i am starting to stress out!

ARGGGHHHHH

Oh and loving the festive smilies...yay! [fbear]

ledkrsbellyislikesantas · 06/12/2010 18:41

angels need to check that outwith someone, how about the union? It was 28 wks i believe up until it changed but i dont know when. I am off sick until decembe when my al kicks in and start mat leav on d day(31.1)
Heartburn ladies-ask for ranatidine its fab.No hb at all.
semperi actually worried last night that i was depressed cos i just couldnt stop crying.I feellike ive lost my mobility, independence, social life, attractivness and cant even have a drink to feel beter.I feel like people (dh and my friends) are thinking im patheticand making a fuss. Not helped by one friend who counteracts my every moan with"i was okwith mine, wasrunning around all overthe place,i love being pg etc Angryshe has one 9yr old!!She is trying for another one (i get pg straight away)i cant help hoping she has spd and breathlessness for the whole 9 months Grin

Dil is in hospital with viral menigitis, should be ok now tho.Dh dealt with a really nasty nappy which is a good sign for the future.
A ball helpsto move baby down from the rib area.

wigglesrock · 06/12/2010 18:41

PinkiePoo this is my 3rd and I have felt much less movement with this one, although it is breech. Try drinking something very cold, or as knitta said have a bath.

*Snowangels" you are right re "enforced" start of mat leave. 4 weeks before EDD, don't think it makes a difference but have you already informed them of your leaving date?

jackfrost · 06/12/2010 18:50

Angels, sounds like their policy is illegal. I have had that with several policies at work, been told all sorts of stuff by them and when I argued they said 'that is company policy' to which I had to point out that 'employment law' over-rides any company policy! Have a look at direct.gov website. I suggest you give your HR dept a call tomorrow and point out the error of their ways, if in any doubt, call ACAS - 08457 474747 they should be able to help if you have any problems at all.

snowangels1 · 06/12/2010 18:53

yeah wiggles my EDD is 21st feb and I have asked to start on 6th jan (which is more than 4 weeks before EDD anyway). I have sent the bursar an email giving a quote from my union website which gives the 4 week thing and asking why he has decided to enforce it so early. await reply!

Grannyapple · 06/12/2010 18:56

Hi angels how many weeks r u? I thought it could be 'enforced* from 11 weeks before EDD, I.e @ 29wks??
