Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Wow! Cantdrink! Congratulations to you. I can imagine that it was very traumatic for you but I am so glad that your babies and you are doing well. What a little Monkey kicking his way out bless! x

Hols they are by the window right now :) The midwife has just been and discharged us which is great news they are now 6lb14 and 6lb3 which is great as they lost a fair bit (although within normal range) and the jaundice has pretty much gone. I am LOVING life with twins! Feel very relaxed about everything and taking it all in my stride, they are beautiful and I feel very blessed! Grin How are you and the boys doing??

holidays2010 · 16/03/2011 15:47

Congrats to cantdrink! Glad everything worked out ok, sounds like quite an ordeal.

Magic - i totally agree with you, life with twins isnt as stressful as i assumed, im definitely enjoying every minute and am very chilled out!
i have one more visit from midwife on friday to check babies are still gaining wieght etc then she'll discharge me.

Assuming you're staying in with the newborns - how are you finding not being able to go out? I'd say thats the only thing (slightly) bothering me, being stuck indoors.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 16/03/2011 22:38

Holls I have made it out shopping with my mum and we had lunch in M&S and got MOBBED! by passers by wanted to have a nose at the girls - was lovely but also not the attention you want when you are scoffing your lunch before they open their eyes for a feed! Also made it out today for a coffee, wander to the bank/post office (back to normal errands!) but both times I have been out I have needed to be back home within about 3 hours to feed them (gave bottle when out but have needed to speed home before mass boob explosion!)
School run is fine, nice to be able to get out again and walk to the school..............what are you doing about the school run?

Hope everyone else is ok, it seems very quiet around here?!!

holidays2010 · 17/03/2011 01:10

Yeah i was already thinking about my trip out on monday - knowing i'll only have 3 hours before the next feed is due. And if mine dont feed on time my boobs start up! If its not one thing its always another!

I also noticed how quiet this thread has become...where are all the pregnant twin mummies gone? Not all dropped i hope?

MorningsMadness · 17/03/2011 08:12

Congrats cantdrink, what a shocking experience but sounds all wonderful now so well done for coping!

Happy St Paddy's day all - green milk anyone?!

restingkitty · 17/03/2011 10:47

oh wow - congratulations cantdrink!!! I'm sorry you had a distressing experience, but - as you say - the most important thing is that the babies both arrived safely.

Anyone else yet to pop (in my case, hopefully not for a while...) feel like they're moving up the list rather rapidly?!

Yesterday my MIL, who also had twins, started with the "oooh no...you don't want to do it like that" [in this case baby sleeping arrangements, ie we are planning for the babies to share the same cot]. Already!! arghh. Must develop thicker skin.....

It has gone a bit quiet (apart from all the new arrivals!) If anyone is quietly lurking, please do join us Smile

Jenzopos · 17/03/2011 11:50

my twins shared a cot until very recently (4 months now) but now have their own cots as they were poking each other awake!

hippy3 · 17/03/2011 11:53

Hi just really quickly checking in...I am in the library as still have no internet... havent had time too read thru all the posts...but congrats to cant drink ....

Mine are still in but scan yesterday showed that one of the boiys is head right down in the pelvis, my consultant thinks I am goign to go in the next week...will be 34 weeks.... so we will see.... am still undecided about vb OR CSEC..... one head down one breach....?? what to do????

My consultant said I can still go for a VB how is this pssible...I am a bit nervous..... now I am guessing this si normal.??? sorry haventy had time to read all te posts.. hope your all good....xxxx [smiel

Jenzopos · 17/03/2011 11:55

I find i cant go anywhere without attention. I get lots of 'double trouble' , 'you have your hands full', 'are they good?', 'are they twins?' and 'is it a 2 girls?'(when both wearing pink jackets)! I also get 'wide load' a lot! People really don't know how unoriginal their comments can be!
Most people have stopped buying the girls matching clothes to my relief...I don't want them to be dressed the same and I like having twice the fun with dressing them in the morning! Also everyone says 'how do you tell the difference?' they look very different (def non id). I did get someone saying that who I've know for years...I said how can you tell me and my sister apart?, to which she replied..but they are twins.... obviously doesn't understand genetics!

holidays2010 · 17/03/2011 12:57

Hi all, hippy if youre unsure have another chat with consultant. They say it doesnt really matter if twin 2 is breech, they'll pull that one out by the legs if need be apparently.

Is it possible my 11day old twins are going through a growth spurt? They just wont give me a minutes break today, constantly feeding.

Snowfalls108 · 17/03/2011 13:02

Hello!
I'm still here, just run off feet moving house at the moment.
Congratulations to all those who've had their babies, although its got me slightly panicked as there seem to be a lot of early arrivals! I'm 30 weeks now and I've got just 6 weeks to go, and need them to stay in as we're not going to be fully in the new house for another couple of weeks.

holidays2010 · 17/03/2011 13:19

Oh and restingkitty - mine are sharing a cotbed, 11days old today, the cot looks massive even with the two of them init. We couldnt fit another cot here anyway even if we wanted to so unless we move to somewhere bigger before they get too big we'll be in trouble with cot no.2!

Snowfalls - im sure you'll make it to at least 32weeks. How have you been finding the pregnancy so far?

Jenzopos · 17/03/2011 16:28

I had to move my chest of drawers out of the bedroom to fit another cot in...don't want to put them in own room until i don't have to get up to feed them in the night!

congrats on all the twins born recently :)My girls got weighed in today at 13lb 1oz!

restingkitty · 17/03/2011 16:41

That's what I was thinking: buying one cotbed (once we've unpacked!) for our bedroom - we can only fit one in there anyway - for them to share for the first few months (or however long suits...happy to keep an open mind). Do you swaddle them?

MIL says they will HATE sharing a cot Biscuit

Jenz..."are they twins?"!!! really?! oh my god.

holidays2010 · 17/03/2011 17:56

They say twins are comforted by eachother being in the same cot, side by side.

My goodness im getting so sweaty feeding these two. The amount of pillows i need to tandem feed doesnt help either - and worse part is i have more to come with warmer weather on the way. As much as summer is lovely - being hot and sweaty isnt!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 17/03/2011 20:36

Holls yes need to be home within 3 hours before boobs burst!! Do you always tandem feed? I only manage it once a day.

Kitty mine share a moses basket atm and sleep really well, we will move them to a cotbed when too big for the basket and then once they are kicking the life out of each other in the cot they will go in their own cots.

Jenz I have had all of those comments too........."Are they twins?" just baffles me although I think it's like the ice breaker maybe so they can have a looksee! My twin mum friend suggested having a t-short printed that says.....Yes they are Twins, yes they are girls, yes they are identical, no there aren't any twins in the family and

identical twins are not heriditary anyway, no they dont wake each

other up and but yes i am tired, yes I breast feed and it's non of

your business how they were conceived!!!!!

Cerub Hope you 2 are doing well, not heard from you for a while xxx

holidays2010 · 17/03/2011 21:29

I have to tandem feed, they keep waking at the same time or within half hr of eachother! It can get tricky though, especially if one or both get fussy and wont latch on!

People do ask the silliest things. Guess i'll get all that when i start going out.

When i took them to and from the hospital i had a white and brown bear suit on them as i held them, everyone thought one was a baby and the other was a teddy bear! You definetly get more attention with twins.

Snowfalls108 · 17/03/2011 22:17

Hi Magic8 - sorry to sound alarmist but have read various reports saying not to put 2 babies in 1 Moses basket, something to do with them breathing in each others C02.

Holidays- completely knackered! This pregnancy is tough. Anyone any energy tips?

Sorry if this posts twice, phone seems to do that!

holidays2010 · 18/03/2011 01:35

I was never really low on energy through my pregnancy. Try including all the foods that are meant to give the body a boost into your diet.
Like apples and bananas, i think iron is another so (dark) green veg and porridge.

Cantdrinkanymoremilk · 18/03/2011 08:31

All this happy news is wonderful - lovely to hear how well everyone is coping with their new arrivals!

Does anyone know how to go about hiring an industrial strength double breast pump? Do I do it through the hospital? Mine are staying there till they get bigger, but taking gallons of expressed milk and my little Philips Avent pump isn't going to go the distance...

Jenzopos · 18/03/2011 10:30

Haha holidays like the Tshirt idea!

I swaddled mine when they shared a cot until they could escape the swaddle and start hitting each other. now at 4 months they are sharing a cot and i'm using grobags.

magic8 I have heard similar stories..think its because moses baskets don't have breathing room of a cot so they can overheat easily.

I was conviced I'd only make it to about 32 weeks...I'm only 5ft 3 so not tall...but made it to 38+6 and had whoppers....no idea how they fit in me!

crazydayz · 18/03/2011 10:58

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't posted for a while! Finally on mat leave so promise to keep up better. Congrats to all the new arrivals - you have now got me running scared at 32 weeks and not ready for them to come out any time soon!

Crappy SPD has me confined to the sofa every time I try and do something to sort the house out - very frustrating!

Cantdrink - The NCT rent hospital grade breastpumps. You just call the central number on their website and they'll put you in touch with your local rental agent.

Hippy My twins are in the same position as yours with one head down and one breach. The midwife said I would have a choice as to whether CS or VB but then the registrar at my last appointment seemed to assume they'd be delivered naturally - very confusing!

Have any twin mums delivered the second one breech or opted for a CS in these circumstances?

Also anyone with expecting non-id twins, has your consultant mentioned when they will induce/ CS? The new draft nice guidelines say not to go beyond 38 + 0 so just wondered if anyones plans had been changed in light of this?

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 18/03/2011 12:51

No I hadn't heard that but I am going to move them to the cot as they are too cramped in the basket. Thanks for letting me know.

MW & HV have both been on a number of occasions and not mentioned anything about it though.....
