Stunned at the comments! It's so early we've hardly told anyone but those we have tend to say things like 'oh blimey good luck' 'crumbs you've got your work cut out for you' 'do you think you will cope?'!!! V encouraging thanks!

Lol at three carseat squash though - I love my easy to park in tight spaces runaround but ... hmm, what's the ideal car for 3? (I already have DD who fills the car with her toys!)

Hi everyone. It's funny how we all get similar comments. Just wait morningsmadness, there will be more comments to come!

When I found out I was having a boy and girl I had alot of "aren't you clever, you'll never have to go through pregnancy again, you've done your bit now." Hmm and "ooh, a ready made family." People really do say some strange things Confused

Snowfalls108 · 20/01/2011 19:23

MissMolly - what are you measuring? I'm 26 inches.

Swazzee · 21/01/2011 06:52

Lol Snowfalls! I'm going to make a note of those answers and write them all on individual cards so I can just hold up the right one at the right time.

crazydayz · 21/01/2011 08:42

I read on thread on the multiple births website and have scared myself a little with prematurity etc - when are you planning on packing/ when did you pack hospital bags?

Also what are your twins going to sleep in upstairs and downstairs? - I want to start thinking about shopping but am being very indecisive!

Snowfalls I think we should commision a T-shirt with most of that printed on the front! Grin

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 21/01/2011 13:54

Hi Crazy and any other newbies! Welcome :)

Other ladies may disagree but I would really recommend you pack your bags by 28 weeks, purely because once you get past 28-30 weeks things start to get more difficult....(for some not all!) I am not far off 32 weeks and don't have the energy to do anything! Far to out of puff to keep up and down the stairs, walk round the shops plus have SPD so not very mobile or comfortable either! Plus it does say have bags ready by 28 weeks on most twin websites/books/tamba or other classes.

We plan to have 1 cot in our room for the 2 of them to share plus moses baskets downstairs.....or possibly a travel cot, not sure yet.

Most people have been delighted and gobsmacked when we have said we are expecting twins with lots of lovely well wishes but I have had some very strange and to the point hurtful comments especially having lost dd2 at 21 weeks followed by an early m/c..........to them it is like the twins are some kind of replacement? And lots of "rather you than me, you are going to have your work cut out" bla bla bla well quite frankly I feel very blessed to be that 1 in 285, and for this totally random occurence or freak of nature to have happened to me so ner ner ne ner nerrrrrrr!!!!

holidays I only have one more scan booked but should get a date when I see the cons in 2 weeks......I can't WAIT.

cake4breakfast · 21/01/2011 15:27

Hi Everyone!

I have my consultant appointment on Monday - I only had my 12wk scan (although at the time I was actually 13+4) 2 weeks ago but am hoping I might be able to get a sexing scan out of it!!

I too have had "Ooh, you are clever" and "Well done you". I have no idea what this is supposed to mean and already people think they can touch my belly!

I have been feeling a bit down recently (still the shock, I guess) but DP and friends have been amazing so am starting to feel more positive. I would like to buy something for the babies to help me with my increasing positivity. What size should I buy them for the hospital? - tinybaby or newborn?? Perhaps both?

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 21/01/2011 15:44

That's great that you have some good friends Cake giving your support. I bought tiny/early baby stuff, not tonnes mind and cheapies from Adsa/Tesco. My DD1 was just under 7lb and newborn/0-3 swamped her.....not that they care though! But.....they do grow so quickly at least they grown into the big stuff :)

Am itchy and fidgity today and have a bottom wedged under my ribs :) but Confused ouch!

cake4breakfast · 21/01/2011 16:23

Thanks for that Magic8. I know I should buy cheap but some of the more expensive stores have the most beautiful little sleepsuits! Maybe just one or two... ;-)

Sounds weird but I'm looking forward to feeling a bottom wedged under my ribs! Not felt anything yet :-(

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 21/01/2011 16:30

Believe I have a mental list of lovely bits I have seen and will be sending DH to purchase once they arrive and we know the flavour! LOL!

I have/had an anterior placenta so didn't feel proper kicks for ages (and worried like hell) my midwife kept telling me not to worry the kicks would come thick and fast and I would soon be uncomfortable (but in a nice way!)! She was right!! It is uncomfortable in a nice way!!! LOL and you do get to know each twin, they have their own 'kick' personality if that makes sense!

Cerubina · 21/01/2011 18:19

Crazy - Like Magic I'm going to aim to get my bag packed for 28 weeks, which will take some doing as at the moment I don't have a single thing in mind for what will be needed! Paper/old knickers and big pads I know about, and snacks etc but I will need a slightly more methodical approach.

In terms of sleeping arrangements I'm leaning towards having them sleeping at night in their own room in the same cotbed, and during the day having a travel cot with basinette downstairs for naps. We can also use the carrycots from the buggy to transport them around if needed.

I actually ordered the buggy and nursery furniture today - yay! Now we have a weekend of trying to make some progress on the car question...so much to do!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 21/01/2011 19:08

Stick some dried fruit in your bag for snacking and to help reduce possible post delivery issues esp if you have a c-sec. Also someone from another thread recommended taking bendy straws to help when you are not so mobile or in labour. Also dextrose/lucozade tablets to give you an energy boost during labour for those going down the natural route, these helped me when I was having DD............and a phone charger!

Yay on your big purchases Cerubina Grin

MissyMolly · 21/01/2011 20:02

snowfalls I have no idea what I'm measuring- did your midwife measure you?

cerubina I'm also thinking of sharing a cotbed at night and a travel cot with bassinette for downstairs during the day

Cerubina · 24/01/2011 12:10

It's quiet on here the last few days. How is everyone?

I'm feeling SO uncomfortable today. I just couldn't face leaving the house so am working from home again. The babies seem to have taken up residence under my ribs and I am breathless, can't bend, and all clothes hurt to wear them as anything touching my bump is tight and irritating. Harrrumph. And not 27 weeks yet - am I going to be able to stand it for another 10 weeks? I feel a little bit worn down by it today and nearly cried this morning.

We bought some little sets of clothing for the twins yesterday from M&S which will do for hospital/coming home wear. Also bought an array of hideous knickers plus a couple of nightshirts for the hospital. Felt really quite embarrassed buying such horrible stuff in front of my husband - not that I could be alluring right now if I tried, but I feel really aware of how much unattractive stuff he's having to witness/turn a blind eye to these days! He's very understanding, fortunately, and I have promised that I won't get too fond of the maxi knickers no matter what...

holidays2010 · 24/01/2011 12:13

Hi ladies.
32 weeks today, still pretty active, walking DD1 to school and back and shopping :)

My left rib has been hurting for some reason for the past two days, maybe 'twin B' kicked me too hard or something? That one is a serious fidget, whereas 'twin A' (head down) is more quiet. You're right about their personalities Magic it will be interesting to see how they are when born; screamers or sleepers Grin

I wonder if the midwife will write 'twin A' and 'Twin B' on their tags when born because we still haven't discussed names! Plus if they do I'll know which is which Grin

I recently bought a steriliser (Fisher-Price Sterimax) from Argos but the damn thing is missing the measuring jug and it doesn't tell you how much water to put in it, just says "use the measuring jug up to the red line" Confused

Also packed most of my hospital bag - just need to pack my clothes, snacks and erm...a few other things on the list. :)

holidays2010 · 24/01/2011 12:20

lol Cerubina hope you feel better soon though!

I went through my DD's baby clothes - she has tonnes of it, 19 baby vests (for example), and that's just the ones in neutral colours, she has more but they're pink so not sure if I can use them or not!
I have no idea where she got half her baby clothes from but most of it was unworn and looks beautiful.
Cant wait to start dressing up these twins in their cute little outfits. So adorable Grin

And expect to be teary-eyed for nothing, just yesterday I started crying just because I showed DP something I bought for babies and he said "Am I a woman or something?" Yes it was rude of him but hardly worth crying over!

restingkitty · 24/01/2011 12:35

Hello everyone

Cerubina feeling your pain, although significantly behind you! Am only 20 weeks, but the back pain/random discomforts have kicked in. Hope you feel better, you will get there.

I remember reading (about 2 months ago) that women should aim to put on around 24 pounds at 24 weeks in a twin pregnancy. At the time I thought 'hmm that sounds rather excessive', but this morning I've hit 19 pounds at 20 weeks, so I've changed my mind!

We originally decided to put off buying anything until we get back from holiday (will be 22-ish weeks) but feeling to urge to purchase already! I bought a couple of little sleepsuits from jojo maman in the sale last week - couldn't resist. Although I was on Northcote Road in Battersea aka nappy valley (which the SW Londoners on the list might appreciate!), so it might have been difficult to come home from there empty handed...!

MissyMolly · 24/01/2011 19:48

Cerubina I do feel for you, I'm only 22 weeks and already starting to feel uncomfortable. I feel really tired most of the time and people comment on me looking knackered- it doesn't help that I look grey most of the time and have lovely blood spots on my face from being sick!

Hope everyone is ok. I'm patiently waiting for one born every minute Smile

hippy3 · 24/01/2011 20:05

Hi ..its been a while since we spoke...

So many newbies....!! so welcome all.

I am getting bigger by the day, literally. I am HUGE at the moment. although still no stretch marks and havent really out on weight anywhere else..so am thankfull for that.

Buggies, Jane twin pro..its really expensive. But my MIL is getting ti for us with two car seats..its 700..but I really like it. Wea re going baby shopping this weekend. Have no idea what I REALLY need to gte, I dont mena the nice stuff I mean what is a necessity?? Aprt from them obvious pram, cot, etc...

Question .... I am planning on breastfeeding(If I can) and combining bottle feeds with expressed milk so my DP can do feeds also. But what bottlers are recommended to used to prevent nipple confusion?? there seem to be so many too chooose from. Also double breast pumps any recommendations??

ANOTHER question?? sorry.... We are thinking of going for a 4d scan... its not cheap do you wreckon its a waste of cash i am in two minds..... Confused

As with regards to maternity I am planning on going to 31 weeks. 9if they remain well behaved and stay in) although I have to be honest I am starting to struggle with the tiredness.

Holidays I really feel for you. I feel very lucky when I read your posts, my DP cant do enough. Can you not just stop looking after him for a bit to show him that you cant do everything yourself? I rteally really hope things chaneg for you when the babies arrive!

Sorry its a long post but its been a few days and I havent been on for a while.... 26 weeks yesterday and just counting every week as a blessing... Smile

hippy3 · 24/01/2011 20:07

sorry about the spelling mistakes.... should have checked before I posted.. Grin

jesse4ever · 24/01/2011 20:13

HI Ladies

can i ask you how do u get past these early weeks without worrying too much?

i am so scared we will lose 1 of both of the twins. i know its not helped with the loss of our last baby at 18 weeks and this is a totally different pregnancy.

my next scan is on 10 days and that is 10 days too long, DH dont want me to book a priavte scan as that is when we found out our baby had died (sexing scan)

sorry fro the me post.

smokeybacon · 24/01/2011 20:38

Hi all. Sorry I've not posted much at all recently. I am Shock at the number of newbies. Amazing!! I hope you all have uneventful pregnancies.

jesse the first few weeks do drag. I worried about the same things and then you have the tiredness, the nausea/sickness, the irritability and possibly not being able to tell anyone yet to deal with on top of the worry. Am so sorry to hear of your previous loss. It must be so hard. The only thing that got me through was something another poster on one of my other ante natal threads said (who is a midwife too BTW) that with twins there are double the hormones kicking around so hopefully that means they are more likely to be sticky beans. I had lots of losses between DS1 and DS2 and fully expected to mc my twins. But they are sleeping peacefully at my feet as I type.

Was also wondering about tabby as she must be close now.

DO we have a post natal twins thread yet?

jesse4ever · 24/01/2011 20:47

Smokeybacon, thx for yor reply, i wished i had more symptoms as that might help. i can cry very easy, i normally ready to sleep at 10 where i would normally go around 12 or 1. i have sore boobies that comes and goes, and other then that pee a fir bit, i think they are laying on my bladder. a little constpation, and if i dont eat after a wile i get that sicky feeling where i need to eat. i have been lucky i guess with no morning sickness. so pleased ur twins are safe and sleeping well xxx (((((hugs)))) for your losses too xxx

Ladies how early have u listened to your babies with a doppler????
