amber you will probably be enjoying Wink your last moments of pregnany now! Good luck today and we can't wait to hear that you have two lovely newborns snuggling up to you very soon.

Swazzee · 07/01/2011 09:25

Been a while since I posted, so hi to the oldies and welcome to the newbies. My boys are nearly 7 weeks now and we're all fine. Struggled during the first month in our crappy little one-bed flat and with DH working loads in the run up to Xmas. But last week we packed everything up and moved down to Plymouth and in with my mum, which is making things so much easier and better. Close to family, more help, and use of a car instead of london transport! Now all I have to do is find a job before the mat pay runs out so that we can get our own place here - can't bear the thought of going back to London.

Definitely make sure you all arrange some kind of help after the birth - it's bloody hard work and the sleep deprivation is a nightmare. Thankfully, both of mine will sleep nearly 6 hours at night now - unfortunately it's never the same 6 hours as each other!

Hope all goes well for you Amber, though I'm sure you won't see this til after!

BrassicaBabe · 07/01/2011 10:54

Hello and helllppppp! Grin

I'm 11+5 and had a private nuchal scan done yesterday (ahead of my NHS one next week) which showed non-id twins! Shocked isn't the word. Although DH was grinning like a cheshire cat! It was a good job I was lying down I can tell you!

I'm 37 and needed clomid to get things going. So I guess I'm one of the clomid 1:10!

What next? I don't quite know where to turn. At the moment the question at the front of my mind is "how to secure a CS"! Will I have to fight or will it be automatic?

Cerubina · 07/01/2011 11:48

Hi Brassica, congratulations and welcome. It must be a shock to find out it's twins when you had no inkling! But most of us quickly come to think it's exciting and there's no denying that you will be a minor local celebrity - in my experience people are fascinated by twins so you will get lots of attention Grin.

There's apparently about a 50-50 chance of a CS for delivery, a lot depends on how your first twin presents at the crucial time (if breech then that's a certainty). There may also be other reasons for a CS such as position of the placenta. Don't worry, there's tons of time to get to grips with all that.

How are you feeling - have you been very sick, are you exhausted? We are all at various stages of pregnancy on here so should be able to tackle most questions - fire away.

Swazzee you have had a really busy time by the sounds of it but it's good you now feel a bit more settled and are finding your feet with a routine. How much down time do you reckon you get with twins - are they more or less a crying tag team or are there times of day when all goes quiet? This is stuff I'm beginning to think about now.

Victoria I would imagine moving house with twins is not going to be easy and nor would managing in a one-bed place be once they're here so probably worth getting on with sooner rather than later if you think you might be able to find a place to rent quite quickly. Best to get yourself settled before you get too big and stressed??

thingamajig you paint a lovely picture I must say...the other day it struck me how many involuntary noises I am making already! Lots of grunts and sighs as I stand up/sit down/put on socks, belches etc...my poor husband. He seems not to be too grossed out but it's fair to say there's not much ladylike behaviour in our house at the moment. I'm with you on being a horlicks fan too!

We had our first ante-natal class (NCT) last night and the other couples seem like a nice bunch so I am hopeful. Only trouble is we are miles behind them, even taking twins into account - no one there was expecting any later than mid-March and most of them were due in Feb (I am only 24 weeks so official EDD is end of April). I hope we won't get too left behind on delivery dates and miss out. The class was interesting though - they showed a diagram of a woman's body at 36 weeks pg and OMG - all I can say is no wonder they have no bladder control!

Snowfalls108 · 07/01/2011 13:43

Hello all.

Welcome Brassica - it's shock isn't it! But the way I'm thinking about it is we're being very efficient. My consultant was very supportive of a CS - in fact suggested it. But I did end up with an emergency one with DS so think that probably has an impact.

Victoria - we're in a 1 bed currently and with DS it has worked fine. There are annoying aspects, such as not being able to read a book in bed, and as I have to hang laundry up in our room I can't do that while he's sleeping, but generally it hasn't been half as bad as I imagined. We're currently in the process of buying a 2 bed. DS will have his own room to start with and the babies will be in with us for the first 6 months and then they'll go in with DS. The plan is that within a year or so we'll be able to do an attic extension and have a 3rd room.

Fingers are crossed for AmberC.

My belly is huge already, and I'm only almost 20 weeks. I dread to think how huge I'm going to be eventually.

thingamajig · 07/01/2011 13:50

Hello and welcome Brassica, congratulations and welcome to twins club. Its an awful long way to go before you give birth, but I get the impression that if you really really want a C-section they will be sympathetic (dependant entirely on your own dr). I hope you are not too sick and tired in the meantime Smile

Swazzee, I'm delighted to hear that you are in Plymouth, thats only about 1/2 hour from me, I always feel I am hundreds of miles away from every other MNer I 'meet'. Would you like to meet sometime, I know that you are really busy and knackered, but it would be great to meet a real person with twin babies. Can you PM me? or me you?

I moved house in December, which was frustrating as much as anything - needing to rely other people to move things that normally I would lug around myself; having them let me down or do stuff wrong, and a few times overdoing it myself and being exhausted/achy/depressed. Having said that I am glad it is (mostly) done - remembering life with dd as a newborn, nothing except baby gets done for months (even stuff like me washing/cleaning/eating gets shoved aside). So I would try to move before the babies make an appearance.

Cerubina · 10/01/2011 12:23

How was the weekend for everyone? We went to visit the in-laws and got given some hand-me-downs by my SIL - a swing contraption and a playpen which I'm sure will come in handy.

I'm really suffering with rib pain still. I don't have much space under my ribs and I think my long-legged babies are forcing everything up and out so all the muscles and nerves are having to stretch. It is at the point where I have to limit myself to about 10-15 minutes of standing, so meals have got to be really quick to cook and even brushing my teeth and washing my face at night are pushing it. Sad Fortunately lying down is still comfortable so I get respite at night time, but otherwise it's so painful during the day, especially at work. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Cantdrinkanymoremilk · 10/01/2011 13:58

AmberC that's brilliant! The best news.

VictoriaS thanks very much for the leaflet link. I've thought about it a lot and instead of thinking "can I afford to go part-time", I'm now thinking "can I afford not to". We had 5 cycles of IVF/ICSI to get this far, so I've got to think of the babies before anything else. I've got six weeks till maternity leave (at 32 weeks) and I'm so achy and tired now there's no way I'll make it otherwise. Work have offered me the option of taking whatever days I like as unpaid leave - so although I won't earn those days, it doesn't affect my contract or mat leave benefits etc.

Cerubina I feel your pain... depending on what twin 2 is doing, it's really, really sore under one side of my ribs, and I can't stand for any length of time either. I feel kinda disappointed in myself that I'm not tougher, but twins is HARD!

Here's a question - how are you all carrying? I've got a big, round, quite neat bump but otherwise my shape's not that different (so far!).

Cerubina · 10/01/2011 15:02

I'm the same, all the weight gain has been bump and otherwise I look much the same as I did before.

It's good that you've managed to get comfortable with the idea of going part-time, would be awful if you were being forced into it but sounds as if it will be the best thing for you too. I can't wait til my mat leave starts either, will be the same time as you but I'll only be 30 weeks. CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH!

Cantdrinkanymoremilk · 10/01/2011 16:36

Ha ha, yes tell me about it - cannot WAIT to go. I love my job, but still... Are you taking the full year out? I've got that plus annual leave - not back in the office till April 2012, which sounds delightfully far away.

hippy3 · 10/01/2011 16:59

Just reading about mat leave. I am finishing up end of feb...I think.... if I continue to feel like I do now shouldnt be a problem.

Then have decided not to return to work..at least for a while, although give me 9 months at home with two babies I might change my mind! We are going to be totally skint but have decided we will have to manage.

Am completley apprehensive about not working to be honest ! Mind u i work for social services and they arent in the best shape at the moment! Hmm

restingkitty · 10/01/2011 18:01

Hello everyone (& thanks hippy for the invitation!). Do you have room for a slightly clueless new member?!

I'm 18 weeks pg with dcda twins, first pregnancy, swinging between panic and complete denial! My husband is also an ID twin, so at least MIL is something of an expert (well she was 30 years ago! Grin )

I hope everyone is well and enjoying the crazy interesting symptoms of twin pregnancy!!
