Whooooooohooooooooo Amberc! That's so soon - hadn't realised!!!! Sending you loads of good luck vibes!

smokeybacon · 04/01/2011 10:15

OOooohhhhh amber how exciting!!

And yes, we should def have a post natal twinnies thread now that we are actually producing these babies.

Cerubina · 04/01/2011 11:56

Hi and happy new year one and all

Nice to see lots of updates post-Christmas and New Year - also nice to see Victoria back on here, so relieved that there was no sinister reason for your absence!

Welcome milky.

Amber I bet you just can't wait for Friday by now. You have done so well getting to 36+ weeks, and soon all the aches and pains will be gone, touch wood, and you'll have your lovely babies!

hippy like you I am getting lots of kicks now and these are even visible from the outside so my husband has been able to see and feel them too - that is really lovely.

Magic hope the start of maternity leave is as enjoyable as you hoped - are you able to get lots of rest or is there much to do? Sorry you are feeling so exhausted and hope this eases now you can forget about work. Yes, we have a hospital ante-natal class this weekend at St George's although I'm not sure whether it is specifically twins or not. We've also got our NCTs starting this week so we're going to be inundated with info.

jjkm it sounds as though your two are doing really well and their weights are coming along. Hope your cold passes and you can get back to your visits soon.

I'm 24 weeks tomorrow and am beginning to think that I didn't fully appreciate the honeymoon period of this pregnancy while it was happening! I have a constant backache that stops me from doing anything for more than about 10 minutes, and have absolutely ballooned bump-wise. The weight is all going on there and my back is struggling to cope, which makes me worry because at the moment the babies are probably only 1.5lbs each and have a long way to go.

I have put on 18lbs in weight so far and have read that it should be more like 24lbs by now. Frankly I am glad it's less for the sake of my joints, but should I be trying to put on more?

I'm also so bloody tired and can't imagine how those of you with children already are managing to look after them. It is all I can do to look after myself! You are utter heroes if you are doing any more than dragging one foot behind the other.

Victoria, we have begun making some decisions on purchases - buggy and nursery furniture are selected, if not ordered and paid for. We are also starting to look for a new car which is an urgent requirement. I definitely think leaving too much shopping to do until later will be difficult in terms of having the energy and inclination to get on with it.

tabby I think it was fair enough that you didn't haul yourself over to see your BIL off, if he is that unengaged with the whole thing. I do think some people struggle to show excitement until something has actually happened and he/other members of your in-laws may start showing some enthusiasm once the babies are here...or not, but either way don't let it dampen your own excitement. That is the most important thing!

My own slight irritant on the in laws front is a couple of Christmas presents from my MIL. Barely a Christmas goes by when I don't get a new nightie from her and this year was no exception - but she bought me one in size 10, and also a summer top in a size 10. AIBU to think this is at best a daft thing to get someone who is currently growing twins and may struggle to get down to that size again in the near future (if ever)? Apparently she thought it was better to get me something I could use in the future than something I could only wear now for a short period...I'd say it was better not to get clothing at all in that case! I can't help but feel this was a bit ridiculous and wonder if I'm supposed to feel under pressure now to spring back into shape! (She also kept remarking on how I'm supposed to put on 4 stone with this pregnancy...the two attitudes seem a bit incompatible!)

Anyway enough of this whingeing and back to work. Hope everyone is well.

holidays2010 · 04/01/2011 18:36

Hey all. Went dr today for flu jab, arm is a bit sore.
But think im doing well at 29weeks and still walking about everywhere - even had to stand up for half the bus journey because apparently pregnant women dont have piority seating?
Oh well.

I can still do the school run for DD so im happy. Wonder how long that will last.. Grin

Amberc · 04/01/2011 21:19

That flu jab does hurt for a few days afterwards doesn't it?

Just had my final ante natal appointment. All getting a bit scarily real now...

Can't sleep!!!!!!! W I D E A W A K E ! ! ! ! Can't sleep!!!!!!!!!

Wow! Not long Amberc!!

People are so rude on public transport Holidays I remember from when I had dd1. So glad I don't commute anymore.

Hi Cerub I think the classes are just for multiple parents, well thats the indication from the leaflet Joeann gave me. Will you be carrying a copy of The Times and wearing a red flower? Lol!

Welcome Cantdrink and congratulations! :)

I like the idea of a post twins thread sounds great and meeting up would be fab!

Amberc · 05/01/2011 04:10

Magic I can't sleep either its awful. Been tossing and turning for ages and have given up. I know my ds will be up in less than 2 hours.

OP posts:
holidays2010 · 05/01/2011 06:57

Oh I had little sleep last night too. Couldnt get to sleep at first but DD nodded off rather quickly for once!
Then when I did sleep I kept waking up every hour. So annoying.

Hope you have a better night sleep tonight.

holidays2010 · 05/01/2011 07:23

Oh and my arm was a bit sore yesterday, today same but less so.
If it stops me catching flu I dont mind a bit of achiness. :)

tabbycat76 · 05/01/2011 10:22

Was it a full moon last night? I had a rotten night sleep too. Woke up at 2.15am not being sure if I was having painful tightenings or if I had been dreaming them!! Anyway along with tightenings, felt very nauseous and like I needed the loo. Have heard that a lot of women have a good clear out of their bowels before they go into labour so was starting to wonder a little. Anyway, paid a visit to the loo (not pleasent) (sorry to be graphic) which helped but the nausea continued and the tightenings lessened and eventually fell back asleep around 3am. Horrible horrible night. Hubby thinks I must have eaten something dodgy but really not sure I have! Still a bit queasy now. Hate feeling ill. Lets hope we all sleep better tonight!

Holidays I was still able to do a lot of stuff at around 29 weeks - I'm quite an independent girl - but now at 33+ it's becoming a different story. Pushing a shopping trolley is harder and even getting in and out of the car is proving a task in itself. Bring back independence and mobility!!! Whohooo!

On a different note, my work phoned me yesterday and asked if I was free at the end of the month for a meal out! They've organised a baby shower for me!!!!! Am so touched as I thought out of sight out of mind! Just hope these twins stay in long enough for me to go!!! And even then I think I'll need a chauverre (wrong spelling) as driving will be harder!! Yay!!

Anyway, have a good day peeps. x

hippy3 · 05/01/2011 19:15

amberc GOOD LUCK....!!!! X am so excited myself. Had another scan and they seem to be almost equal now with regards to size, and amniotic fluid and stuff must be all the crap I ate over christmas...!

We got given a pram at Christmas, and a load of other bits and pieces. its a good pram to A Jane twin pro, comes recommended by tamba. My MIL is buying the two carseats to go with it so that we can use it for two newborns... ive checked these out as well and they come highly rated for saftey. Have decided we are going to start getting some small bits week by week now. so we dont have to spend out a fortune when they arrive. !

cerubina I have put on two stone just over, ? have no idea how much this is in lbs? im 23 + 3 days today. have no idea if this is good or not I do know both are within the range that thye should be.... And actually dont feel too bad. And I am really quite small...am trying to enjoy it whilst I can. I also saw them kicking when I was in the bath last night as did DP and Im delighted for him now he feels part of it now he can actually see it... am so excited bring on 2011..I am off to a TAMBA antenatal class on sat...anyone else been???? huge hug am in great from today.... Smile

Amberc · 06/01/2011 02:42

You are in good form hippy! Wait till you are writing posts at 2.30 in the morning at 36 weeks!!! Again unable to sleep due to my painful legs. Still I really am on the last hurdle now. I have started to become really panic stricken now. Did any of the other mums feel like this before their twins were born?

OP posts:
Cerubina · 06/01/2011 09:56

Working from home today, ah bliss!

Amber it must be a real mix of emotions on the verge of delivering your girls. Being nervous and worried can only be natural though, given the caesarian tomorrow and the huge change in your life that is about to come! Do you feel happy that you've got the practical arrangements sorted out, eg someone to take care of your DS and your bag sorted etc etc? Try to relax for today and focus on how great it's going to be to meet the girls, get your body back and begin to feel more comfortable again - you are nearly there! GOOD LUCK for tomorrow, we'll all be thinking of you at midday.

Hope everyone else got a better night's sleep after the night before. Tabby any recurrence of those odd symptoms? Let's hope it was a one-off.

hippy that's great to be given a buggy and car seats - saves a fortune! My mum emailed yesterday and said she'd bought us a few sleepsuits and other bits and bobs, which are officially the first purchases for the babies I think! I find it a bit daunting the idea of all the stuff they'll need and don't really know where to start with sheets, blankets, clothes, bottles etc etc.

Your weight gain sounds about right - 2 stone is 28lbs. I will ask my midwife I think to be on the safe side but am not too concerned as they were measuring well at their last scan.

I have been injecting heparin every day since doing IVF which was prescribed to avoid any risk of miscarriage (given my history) which is not far off 6 months of injections - we went to see the specialist again the other day and he said we can stop now! Woo! Apparently after 22 weeks implantation is complete and I am now 24 weeks with good blood flow across the placenta so the risk is now dealt with. Will be nice not to have a bruised tummy any more, not that I'll exactly be getting it out!

tabbycat76 · 06/01/2011 09:57

Amberc I'm 33+ and I'm already starting to feel panic sticken. My hubby yesterday also for the first time told me he didn't think he was ready mentally/pyschologically. Apparently you never are and you just get on with it but still..... twins?? As your first children?!? I'm really quite scared of the admission to hosp, the delivery, and certainly bringing them home!! You're not alone!

And you're 36 weeks? Are you having a c/s or going for a vaginal birth? Just wondering at what gestation your hospital delivers if going for a c/s - I've read that 37 weeks is deemed term for twins so really they could come at any time. If thats true it means I've 4 more weeks to go - 4 MORE WEEKS?!??!?!?!?!?

My husband also noted on our calender yesterday the baby shower that has been arranged for me and has said "I don't think so!" It's 3 weeks off as yet so may well have a point but fancy, having a baby shower organised for you by work and not being able to go - such a shame!! :(

Cantdrinkanymoremilk · 06/01/2011 10:27

Hey everyone, thanks for the welcome!

Can I get your thoughts on a work issue pls? I went in yesterday for a catch-up with my bosses before we start back properly on Monday - they've been really supportive, but they sort of ambushed me with the suggestion that I go part-time till I go on maternity leave, which would be another 6 or 7 weeks hopefully. I'm getting really tired and sore now so wanted to talk to them about working from home more or something like that - not sure about this part-time thing though. I can't really afford it, and I feel like I'm maybe being penalised for being pregnant. I think they're genuinely trying to help me, but is it a reasonable idea?? My GP's offered to sign me off sick, but I don't really want to do that... Too tired and hormonal to think straight...

Good luck AmberC!

Snowfalls108 · 06/01/2011 17:50

Hi cantdrinkanymoremilk - I'd be honest with them, say the doc has offered to sign you off, you don't want to do that but you can't afford to be part time and therefore can you work from home.

holidays2010 · 06/01/2011 19:18

Hey all! Im only 29+4 but sure ive started getting some tightening.
Isnt that braxton hicks?
I should really look these things up.. :p

hippy3 · 06/01/2011 19:23

tabby I am not sure when its deemed ok to deliver them. I have two consultants having a heated discussion about mine at the mo..one wants to deliver at 34 weeks the other sees no reason to deliver before 36 as long as they continue like they are. I have to say the longer in the better...(PLEASE dont quote me on that when im on here moaning about everything after 30 weeks ! Smile). also why is your hubby saying you cant go to your baby shower??

Welcome !! cantdrinkmilk sorry didnt say it yesterday.... was on a delirious high!

cerubina I know what u mean about all the stuff that we seem to have to gte before they arrive. My best friend has just given birth so she said she is going to sit me donw and talk to me about exactly what I will need rather than get swamped with everything !

hope that those of you who didnt sleep are felling ok. I guess its practice for the nights of no sleep with our babies Hmm

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 06/01/2011 19:35

In case I don't get a chance to post later just wanted to wish Amberc the best of luck tomorrow - will be thinking of you at noon!!!!!!!!

Ooo Holidays I would say yes, I have had BH for a few weeks now and getting them much more now.

Will try to pop back later to catch up properly.

hippy3 · 06/01/2011 20:16

amberc THE best of luck for tomorrow !!! I think we will all be thinking of you at noon....xxxx check back in with us when you have a minute again !

Amberc · 06/01/2011 20:47

Thanks everyone! BTW twins are considered full term at 37 weeks although they sometimes deliver ID twins earlier. I am signing off now until the c section is done tomorrow - eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!! I'll have 3 kids this time tomorrow and it has not sunk in at all!!

OP posts:
sassy34264 · 06/01/2011 22:11

I have 3 kids now as well amberc and it still hasn't sunk in! I'm wishing you all the best for tomorrow (even though you probably won't read it until after labour) and i look forward to hearing all about you and your new LO's. xxx

thingamajig · 06/01/2011 22:27

Good Luck Amber, I will be thinking about you at midday.

Can'tdrink, if you let the doctor sign you off sick, do check out how this will affect the length of time you get on mat leave. I think I remember that they can enforce that a number of weeks before the birth is counted as mat leave not sick leave, giving you less paid time with your baby. Worth looking up anyway. Do stick to your guns and don't let them make you go part time if that isn't what you want anyway.

I don't know how you manage to work anyway, good for you all.

I'm 29 weeks and losing my will to try and get on anything like normally; I go back to bed at least twice a day, I waddle, belch, fart, gobble food then regret it, drink pints of horlicks, and get vomit in my mouth every time I lean forward. And I'm less good at holding on for a wee than my 3 year old. My pelvis/lower back ache constantly, and I have to rotate between sitting, standing and lying down as they all hurt after a while.

That's not to say I'm not quite happy and content but the thought that I have weeks and weeks more to go, and that it will only get worse, is not comforting. My twins are ID and share a placenta, so they should come pretty early, thank goodness.

Right, time for Horlicks and bed, I think. positive vibes to all of you.

VictoriaSecrets · 06/01/2011 22:43

Hi everyone - crikey, it sounds like everyone has been really busy- it's nice to read that things are going well for everyone.

Amber - I know you probably won't see this until after - but GOOD LUCK for tomorrow, really hope everything goes smoothly, be great to hear your story when you have had a chance to settle into some kind of routine.

We went shopping at the weekend and ended up buying some baby bits (oops :o) )

Welcome cantdrinkanymoremilk... not sure if you've seen this, it's a gov leaflet that I got in my maternity pack thing that outlines at a high level employer/employee obligations (your company should have a policy too that they can send you) <a class="break-all" href="http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/www.berr.gov.uk/files/file34286.pdf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Leaflet Hopefully the link will work! :)

Have to say - I can't believe how quickly time is flying - I have a feeling it will slow down again though as I get bigger etc. We have our first Twin antenatal class on Monday, which is quite early really, but looking forward to it, and our monthly consultant appointments start on 17th Jan! Scary!

All a bit busy and scary as I was talking to my boss today about maternity leave, and realised that I need to take my annual leave before the maternity to make sure I don't lose it (suggest people check this out!) which will basically only give me about 9 weeks left in work. Oh, and we had an estate agent round as we really need to try and sell this house (1 bedroom so way too small for twins really) and get a new place (probably rented) before they arrive... what do you think - is this too much stress to try and sort out before they arrive or will it be worse once they are here?!

Love feeling them move around, although sometimes it actually makes me jump - again wonder if i'll get fed up of this as everything progresses!

Off to bed now, but will try and check back soon :)
