You make me laugh - cheese puffs - must have some now.

Off to sainsburys to get the last few snack bits for my bag. Any real must haves?

I really feel for you lot with little ones already. I'm finding it hard to clear up my own mess and getting very frustrated that everything is not just so. Do you think getting a cleaner for a few weeks or months (just to do cleaning and ironing) is a good idea? MLI will think it's a waste of money but at the moment i really don't care.

Congrats JJ. Delighted that everything went well for you. I'm still sitting here thinking "loads of time"

I am starting to get the nesting done now that I have finished working though. I have most of the baby stuff bought, but loads of it is in the loft so it wouldn't be a complete disaster if he arrived early.

Don't want to alarm you Triceratops but I read that some womens bowels empty themselves in preparation for labour - and loads of people have backache as a first sign of labour....... The race is on - who's next?

Redtartanlass · 19/09/2005 13:36

snack...for your bag.....do you have the time or inclination to eat? I know it was only 20mths ago, but i can't remember wanting to eat?

BigBumpBonnie · 19/09/2005 14:51

Congratulations JoseyJo It's so fantastic to read one of us has done it! It doesn't seem that long ago we were all posting clutching our positive pregnancy tests.

I'm giving it another week and then trying the raspberry tea, pineapple etc. (might give the curries a miss!) Sex is def a no no. Has been for ages (poor dh!) Just feel like a beached whale and have zilch libido. Oh well, he'll only have another few months to wait

Who's going to be next, I wonder??? I reckon it could be trice. Place your bets now !!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 19/09/2005 15:27

cant remember who is actually due next, but whoever it is, lucky lucky you!

Jess is being an absolute angel so far today so no complaints with her, im just tired and emotional!

pains down below are common with me, honestly thought something was kicking off last night, but hey ho - wasnt to be! Assuming it was BH's but jeez - it hurt!

Elf1981 · 19/09/2005 15:34

Woah, I cant keep up! Since the last time I posted we've moved to a new thread and had another birth! Congrats JoseyJo!

My blood pressure has stabalised. V good.
Went to Assessment Unit last night as Boo decided not to move all fricking day long. Not good.
Had scan this morning everything fine, little movements seen so think Boo's just very relaxed. Everything else seems fine, normal fluid levels, normal blood flow, etc. Still breech (as if I didn't know, I can feel Boo's head under my ribs constantly, it's so painful!). Got an appointment with the consultant on Friday to discuss turning / C-section.

Now - advice. Am I being a wuss by not wanting the doctors to turn Boo? From what I've read in the leaflet I was given, it's on 55% effective in first babies, plus 20% chance of them turning back. Also, chance that the baby can be distressed / placenta can tear resulting in emergency section. In my mind I feel much more settled with the idea of a "planned" section (although it's not something I set out at the beginning of the pregnancy wanting) than an emergency. What do you think?

Anyhoo, off down the coast tomorrow til Thursday morning. Midwife says I'm allowed as long as I take my notes, don't drive, don't walk too far and don't overdo it. TBH it will encourage me to put my feet up as I wont have anything to do, whereas while I'm supposed to be on maternity leave, at home I keep thinking "oh, I'll just do this..." and am tiring myself out!

Hope everybody else is well.

Out of interest- how many breechies left?

Elf1981 · 19/09/2005 15:36

Oh and according to the measurements taken, Boo weighs 8lbs
Please tell me that this is often wrong!!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 19/09/2005 15:39

i should hope that measurement is wrong - or you will be having a toddler!

As for turning/c/secion - i know i would rather have a planned section.... read too many horror stories about turning breach babies..... but your decision hun, do what you think is right!

Elf1981 · 19/09/2005 15:46

DH isn't keen on the turning, and neither am I. I just don't want to be seen as a picky / awkward patient when I meet the consultant!

As for weight I was 10lbs 3 when born and I was breech. I'm starting to think this is a re-run of my birth!

BigBumpBonnie · 19/09/2005 15:59

I was in a similar position until recently when my bubba went head down and I'd already decided to just go for a planned c section. Didn't fancy the ECV much either, but it's entirely up to you. As long as you're well informed you can make the choice. By the sounds of it though you're expecting a big bouncy bundle, so maybe for that reason as well a c section would be better!!

mawbroon · 19/09/2005 16:24

Elf - I'm still breech at the moment but at 34+5 am trying to convince myself that there is still plenty time. I have a midwife appointment tomorrow and will discuss with her.

DH and I have kind of decided that if baby doesn't turn then we will try the ECV but we would go there in the full knowledge that it could turn into an emergency section. I don't have figures, but I don't think that terribly many end in an emergency situation. And, if they turn the baby and he turns back, then so be it.

As others have said though, it's entirely up to you.

Good luck

fastasleep · 19/09/2005 17:04

Aww elf if a planned section is less scary for you then have a planned section! It's not going to hurt anyone, well the stitches will a bit but you know what I mean!

Also I was told last time round from their measuring that Theo would be 8lbs! He came out at 6lbs, puked up meconiumy stuff poor love, then was 5lb... so don't pay too much attention, plus anyway with a planned section you won't know the difference!

I'm absolutely knackered... the house is seriously seriously bad it looks worse than if someone had burgled it.. cleaner pleeeeeassse!

morningpaper · 19/09/2005 17:07

Congratulations JoseyJo!!! I can't really believe we're on the home stretch! I don't think it's really sunk in that I'm going to have another BABY! I can't think past the labour!

tiggyhop · 19/09/2005 17:37

Glad you found us, I only found the site a few weeks ago and wonder how I got on before!! It's just reat to know that you're not the only one feeling crap, nervous etc etc.

I've been having some mega bh,trying not to get my hopes up that it is the real thing but I know it's not!! I am sooooooooooo ready to have this bub. Well, ready mentally but not anywhere else, better start buying some clothes etc.

YOKEFLEET · 19/09/2005 18:47

JJ - CONGRATULATIONS and glad you had a good birth and welcome to Daniel James - lovely name.

tiggyhop - Hello and welcome

I had my 38w mw apppointment today and BP was high for the 2nd week in a row, she is coming to take BP at home tomorrow again in the hope that it has come down if not then she will send me to the assesment unit, but as I haven't got any of the other signs of Pre-eclamsia (sp??) and she always gets a good strong heartbeat & plenty of movement what will they be assessing?? if you know what I mean? sorry if that doesn't make any sense - I know what I mean!!lol

Elf1981 · 19/09/2005 19:12

Yokefleet I had the same troubles a few weeks ago. Two days of high blood pressure at the midwife, then was sent for assessment, but I also had protein in my urine so I think thats why I was sent. I was told to expect blood works to be done to check the functioning of my kidneys and liver, even though I only had the high blood pressure and the protein.
When I was at the assessment unit, they did my blood pressure which had gone down, and there was no protein. So they didn't do the blood work. They also do a scan of the baby to check the blood flow through the cord. I'd had a scan a fortnight previously (due to lack of movement, my baby is a bit lazy!) so I just had a quick scan and everything there was fine.
It was pretty worrying at the time, but tried to put in my head that they had my best interests at heart (and the babies).
Hope the information helps a little. The hard thing is trying not to stress, as if you know that there's a potential problem with blood pressure, you panic every time somebody comes near you to measure it! (Or was that just me??!)

I'm 36 weeks + 5 days BTW so a little behind you.

YOKEFLEET · 19/09/2005 20:08

Thanks for the info Elf - I am exactly the same as soon as she comes near me my BP soars!!!

Kiwifruit · 19/09/2005 20:45

congratulations JoseyJo - am lurking from the September thread, and am very that there's people on this thread popping already!

Yokefleet - I have had the same problem with my BP, picked up at my 38 week check. It's called Pregnancy Induced Hypertension, and is reasonably common in first time mothers late in pregnancy (esp. if over 35). The worry point is 140/90 - mine was that on the Monday, and 160/100 on the Thursday, so was admitted overnight for observation. Due to lack of observations while admitted causing stress, I managed to get to a whopping 224/111 , which was quite impressive! Anyway, they can manage it with some drugs that are very safe during pregnancy (although you have to make sure they change them after you deliver, as apparently can cause post natal depression), and good news is that bp tends to return to normal a few days after birth. Have been told that they probably won't let me go past my due date (25th), and am being monitored every couple of days. Medication seems to be working though, as BP has stabilised at top end of acceptable range (although does fluctuate a bit, and have to agree with Elf - am sure it measures higher than it actually is as it goes up when someone approaches me with the bp cuff !).

My doula told me that if they induce me, they will probably encourage me to have an epidural once I get to 3cm, as an epidural helps to keep your bp down during labour. Guess this is good, as it means that won't feel the effects of the accelerated labour due to induction, and also means that epidural already in place if section required. Downside is no birth pool .

Risks are that it can turn into pre-eclampsia, and even if it doesn't, there is still a risk of maternal stroke or placental abruption. Keep an eye out for headaches, seeing stars, pain at top of bump (under diaphragm), excessive swelling of feet and hands.

HTH and good luck!

SusiS · 19/09/2005 21:39

oh wow JJ congratulations!!!! and welcome daniel - hope the feeding kicks in soon for you two!!

welcome tiggyhop!! guess you've got your hands full with 2 toddlers already - fingers crossed your wish will come true

Lexie100 · 20/09/2005 08:12

Bugger, have woken up with a cold from hell and still have back ache Also didn't sleep much but nothing unusual there.

Any homeopathic remedies out there??

OP posts:
Elf1981 · 20/09/2005 08:20

Lexie, I don't suffer too much from bach ache but when I do I find it very comfortable to adopt one of two positions :

  1. lying on my side with my top leg stretched across the bed, a couple of pillows stacked under the bump and leg

  2. on my knees on the bed, put a pillow under my tummy for support then lean forward. Head rests on the bed, tummy on the pillow. I think it's becuase I have bad posture and this helps stretch me out!

Cant help with the cold unfortunately. If you're hot and bothered, try using Cool n Soothe strips on either your forhead or the back of the neck.

Hope you feel better soon. Elf xxxx

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 20/09/2005 08:52

i know how you feel lexie - im still trying to get over mine!

Long hot bath to clear out sinuses and lots of sleep!

Well, after saying NO SEX yesterday, guess what happened last night!! Lets hope after a few more sessions this baby might get moving!

Lexie100 · 20/09/2005 09:39
