Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Mawbroon - if you really want to have the baby turned, fight for it and ask for a second opinion. Even go to another hospital to have it done if necessary. It isn't 100% effective (it's about 55% in first children, 95% in second +) but if it is what you want, dont take no for an answer!

I was the other way around. After reading up on it, I wasn't too keen on the idea and would have clocked the doc if they'd pushed for it, but luckily the (junior) doctor I saw was pretty cool and more of the "what mum wants, mum gets" side of things.

Tried phoning my midwife, I haven't seen her for two weeks becuase I've been at the hospital. I've had urine & blood pressure checked every time at the hospital, but I'm a bit miffed that nobody has listened in to Boo, or even felt how far they may have descended. So hopefully, as I'm now not due at the hospital til the date of the section (6th), she may wish to see me in the meantime and put my mind at rest.

very tired today. Fell asleep about 1:00 this morning, awake at 6:00 then fell back to sleep and have just been woken by Parcel force asking me if I'd take a package for next door but one as they're not in. Grrrrr. Will have to invest in a "Mother and Baby Sleeping" sign to stick on the front door when Boo does arrive.

Elf1981 · 28/09/2005 08:47

Poor J&BM just seen your other thread... 70% of babies arrive AFTER their due date? Gawd, did not know that!! Mind you, us October lasses must be the exception to the rules!

If you're getting really desperate, see a reflexologist or go for acuepuncture. And even if they dont induce labour, at least you'll feel relaxed afterwards!!

Dont worry, I had a curry last night (fancied one as opposed to doing it to start labour off), BD with DH the night before and the only thing I have to show for it is a bad back and achy tummy.

SusiS · 28/09/2005 08:49

morning! gosh, that 'grrrr' heating! don't get me wrong; lovely to finally have a warm house but it came on and off all night long. and i am just not used to that extra noise! will have to adjust it tonight and see if that helps! i'll get there

besides that i had a quite good night; no toilet runs and not too much pain!

ds woke his (lately) usual 5.30 but i refused to get him up and he was whining on and off for an hour. 6.30 we finally got up!

he'll be going to nursery at 1pm and then i'll be heading to the hospital to get my next sweep!
let's see if that'll do anything for me ...

morningpaper · 28/09/2005 09:14

Good luck Susi! DH works at the hospital and a consultant chum said that if I want to go in for a sweep anytime then to just turn up!

(Good luck J&BM! I think the idea with the pineapple is to eat anything that normally gives you the runs - so for me that would be two pounds of Victoria Plums I think! I live in pineapple and curry anyway - actually I have a good Pineapple Curry recipe - perhaps I should post it?!)

danishmummy · 28/09/2005 09:47

Mawbroon -- sorry to hear about your (nearly) sleepless night... at least you can give yourself a rest later. Hoping your baby will turn soon. My DD turned very late and stayed. You asked, if I feel knees and elbows high or big thumps low down; well, I feel most activity in the middle, which much mean baby still being horizontal/transverse..?

My backache keeps me from sleeping more than 6 hours, and it is that pain (I can hardly move) rather than DD that wakes me up in the morning -- not a nice wakeup call.

Well fed up these days. Irritable, grumpy and stuffing myself with bread and butter and pålægschokolade, which is a Danish thing: thin slices of chocolate (milk or dark) to put on bread. exDH found it a strange thing to do but very tasty and addictive...

RTL -- good luck at consultant today.
SusiS -- sweet sweep...

All you lucky ones with a DH to do the "sheet gymnastics" (as we say in Denmark) with to get things started!! Will need to pull someone into my bed...

triceratops · 28/09/2005 10:24

DM that chocolate thing sounds delicious. I have just eaten a pound of grapes and half a carrot cake. I seem to have a really sweet tooth at the moment.

The sun is shining and I have just been for a walk in the park on my own . It was lovely not to have ds for a change (he is at pre school). I am trying to enjoy my last chance to do things on my own for a while. Last time I really missed being able to have a coffee and read the paper which is just not the same with a baby in tow.

Redtartanlass · 28/09/2005 11:46

sheet gymnastics didn't work However my appointment with consultant is tomorrow, not today. Woo Hoo, so spending today skiving, ds2 at nursery. Told work not coming next week, so this will be last week at work.

Susis - is a sweep when the mw, tries to break your waters? If it is how come their going to do it for you when you're not late. Or am I completely and utterly going down the wrong trak

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/09/2005 11:56

RTL - a sweep is when the MW just tries to start labour off by manipulating your cervix and seperating the membranes from the cervix - no water breaking!!!

Good luck at cons tomorrow - ive got mw appointment this afternoon.... still undecided what to say to her!

Jess has just had her MMR injection and is now asleep..... dreading the next 2 weeks in case she reacts!!

SusiS · 28/09/2005 11:59

not the water. they try to stretch the cervix and get things started that way.
not entirely sure why they started me so early () but it's got to do with having had a very long bad last labour! so they want to help as much as possible and spare me such an experience.
she even said if bubs is not here by monday they might consider a cs!

mmmmmmmmmmm chocolate!!!! wish i could eat more but it does give me heartburn lately
but then again anything is really!
oh well, milk milk milk again for me ...

fastasleep · 28/09/2005 12:04

I just had the homebirthy midwives around, the bloodtest saga is over! THANKYOU GOD! My 30 weeks bloods have now finally been taken, apparently my midwives at the GP have been really stupid, they obviously thought they could talk me out of my homebirth somehow because I should have been getting all my ante natal care at home and getting to know the community midwives etc etc... there is no stupid 9-5 birthing rule, I just have to hang on to 38 weeks and then everything will be ok!

I ate pineapple last night out of pure craving's sake, all this talk just made me want it! I ate a whole tin! Now I feel bad because she was 'free' last week and today she's 5 5ths engaged!! ARGH! Lol! I bet she'll come early and I'll not get my homebirth after all!

Sounds like I was the only one to get a good night's sleep last night, for once! Although I was all teary with hormones.. ugh...

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/09/2005 12:07

FA..... DONT YOU DARE POP BEFORE ME! I WONT BE HAPPY!

Ill see what my MW says this afternoon..... hopefully im somewhat engaged too..... if hse says free, im going to cry and cry and cry like a baby!

fastasleep · 28/09/2005 12:11

Aww JM ... she's being quiet too, what if I go into labour? Calm down fastasleep calm dooown... Oooh I'm all flustered!

Bet I'll pop on the 1st of November or something in the end

You could always lie to your mw about your hubby going away, it's not exactly a cardinal sin is it? Nice induction... Oh I know, I'm not helpful!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/09/2005 12:17

Thats what everyone keeps telling me to do.... but im scared they will check up or something or want a letter from the army confirming it..... they are horrible like that round here!

If you pop before me i dont know what ill do.... especially after all the twinges ive had.

My bubs is fairly quiet too.....

fastasleep · 28/09/2005 12:21

Well stay very quiet till she's done the measurements... if you're nice and large and the baby's not engaged say he's going away (you can blag this she doesn't need documentation!) and if the baby's engaged just keep with the other tactics... well that's what I'd do!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/09/2005 12:23

i know im large.... i dont need her to tell me!

think i might go down the whole "im in so much pain" route...... hope she can offer some words of wisdom.... sounds horrible but if im not engaged and she decided bubs has gone back to breach i wouldnt be upset!!!

fastasleep · 28/09/2005 12:25

Yes mention SPD and ribs aching and bump stretchyness and then cry a bit...

that's the good honest way to get an induction!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/09/2005 12:25

not that i would be being honest at all.... but i think the tears may have to roll.... right, off for an hours kips before she turns up!

fastasleep · 28/09/2005 12:28

Don't forget to cry! You should have taped Holby City... make her a cup of tea and squeeze washing up liquid in your eyes or something! Lol!

Hope it goes well xxx

Redtartanlass · 28/09/2005 12:43

Jess&Bmum ? why do you want to be induced? I think I?ve missed something somewhere.

mawbroon · 28/09/2005 13:24

My two SILs have just left with their kids. My house is like a bomb hit it!! I suppose that it is all good preparation for having my own. I went and ate a cream cake and then half a brownie but unfortunately I have had to wash it all down with Gaviscon - except it's not even Gaviscon, it's some own brand thing that the doctor prescribed. Bleugh - I must be a freak - I love the taste of Gaviscon!!

One of my SILs has a DS who is 4 months so she has just left me a bag full of babygrows etc. Bonus

Danishmum - I am getting kicks down low and also to my left side. I would guess from this that he is lying straight up and down, bum at the bottom and legs folded up to my left side. I will find out exactly what's going on when I get scanned tomorrow. BTW where are you living in Denmark? I have a friend who lives in Julesminde near Vejle (sp). I have only visited once, but I thought it was a lovely country.

Right. I'm away to try to restore some order to this house now before collapsing on the sofa for the afternoon

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/09/2005 14:04

MW has been and gone...

measuring 38 weeks rather than 36+5 which makes it closer to my dates than the hospitals as i well knew.

NOT ENGAGED AT ALL..... but apparently 2nd timers quite often dont engage until labour!?

Didnt bother mentioning anything else.... left it as it was.... but..... they dont want to see me for another 2 weeks!!! I was shocked! I will be nearly 39 weeks by then.... i thought they saw me every week?!

fastasleep · 28/09/2005 14:08

I'm getting bugged every week from now on, so that I can get to know the community mws but if I was staying with a hospital birth and GPs it would be every other Tuesday...

Told you to cry!

Oh dear DS just caught his toe, looks really nasty... I hope it's not broken!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/09/2005 14:13

FA.... you are going to drop before me... and ive made the decision that this baby isnt popping because i spend too much time moaning about it on here.

I am now signing off and refuse to come back..... flounce......

mawbroon · 28/09/2005 14:34

Hmmm, didn't like to say J&BM....... Only kidding

Why don't you start doing something that you know you won't get finished for ages. Then the baby is bound to arrive in the middle of it and whatever you started will lie unfinished in the cupboard for years. Something like knitting or sewing would fit the bill I suppose, but of course may not be your cup of tea....

Lexie100 · 28/09/2005 14:54

i just can't keep up with the postings. Only missed last night and this am and it has taken me ages to read through.

I did want this baby to come out but i read loads yesterday about stitches and bleeding etc and now quite happy to have the little one inside for a while yet. DH in Germany so off to visit mum for the weekend. Will take my notes and hospital bag just in case.
