Hi Everyone, congrats on all the new arrivals!

Glad to hear the sweeps seem to be doing the trick as I have mine this afternoon at 3. I'm a week overdue today and had a bit of a show at the weekend, fairly regular painless tightenings, and the odd bit of pain inside. Think someone else has described it as like LO is scratching cervix with it's little fingernails! That's exactly how mine feels.

Hoping things will get started properly tonight.

Hi all! Baby GIRL born this morning at 9:30am!! Midwife just barely got through the door to catch her! She is 9lb 2oz and absolutely stunning. Homebirth is the way to go! It was awesome. Hope you've had yours too gem! Xxx

PrivetDancer · 17/11/2010 12:48

Yay! Well done sarahbuff! and dairymum and clueless!

Glad you got your homebirth, Sarah! Did you go with managed first stage or natural?

My clary sage oil turned up today, got to do some shopping then will come home and give it a good sniff :)

Good luck to those on their way..

Sarah, you're a champ! Well done for HB and for MW coming on her birthday! Great present for her? :)

sarahbuff · 17/11/2010 13:22

:) third stage was natural, placenta came in ten minutes. I was really pleased I got my natural third stage, cord not cut until it stopped pulsing, and no tears. We're snuggling on the sofa now, she's barely been off my boobs she's a very keen feeder already! I'm floating on air. :)

4madboys · 17/11/2010 13:28

YAY congrats sarah Grin sounds like it was lovely, i had a natural third stage with ds4 and plan to do the same this time, its nice to be able to leave cord etc.

and lovely for your midwife to be there, and for her to arrive on her birthday :)

smokeybacon · 17/11/2010 14:15

Awww, well done sarah. Has your DD a name yet?

grinningbee · 17/11/2010 14:39

Congratulations Sarah Grin

Jenni363 · 17/11/2010 15:40

Congratulations Sarah!!

I had my second sweep this morning (I'm now 41+3). It wasn't as painful as the first one I had on Sunday. I also had some mild contractions while monitored in the hospital.

Since I've been at home I've been having period like cramps every 6-8 minutes, but they are now slowing down..

I'm confused now, are these proper contractions...? When do you ladies normally would pop the TENS machine on? I know the earlier you start using it the more efficient it is.. But I'm not really in pain, these are just "mild cramps" that only last few seconds..

Guess I better wait - apparently you will know once you are in labour.. Just so confusing when its your first baby.

Luckily DP working from home today so had company in the hospital and now home.

He would also like this baby to arrive before the weekend so he'll get to watch the All Blacks game on Saturday Hmm

Good luck to all the new mums, and fingers crossed the rest of you will get there very soon!

Gemjar · 17/11/2010 15:50

Well done Sarah - sounds like a fantastic birth!

I on the other hand have been to hospital and am now back home again after still only being 1 cm dilated Sad

Hope things get going a bit better soon, I don't fancy these cxs for the next couple of days, they are definitely stronger and lasting a little longer but still too far apart.

At least DS has now gone to stay with his Granddad so I don't have to worry about him

Bassface · 17/11/2010 17:36

Congratulations Sarah! That sounds amazing.

Back from the midwife after having the sweep. It's been 2.5 hours and nothings happening yet. She said I was 2cm dilated so I'm bouncing on my ball trying to get things happening.

Booked in for an induction on Monday if nothing happens any sooner but that would mean going to the labour ward rather than the birthing unit for a water birth which is what I ideally want. Fingers crossed something happens tonight!

blondecat · 17/11/2010 18:16

Baby Marie born yesterday, 3.2 kg and 48cm
C section not that bad - ask for local anaesthetic before they put canula in!

She fed within hour but that was it. Expressing by hand and syringe feeding since. Getting a tad desperate.

Vix7 · 17/11/2010 18:31

'grats blondecat, sarah, dairymom and clueless!

dairymom, hope your piles settle down soon. it's been 2 weeks for me and my piles are only just beginning to get better. i'v been told i shld hv asked for the suppositories instead of just getting the cream.

Vix7 · 17/11/2010 18:35

slightly unrelated qn: does anyone here use baby carriers/wraps? any recommendations?

i tried the Dojo sling but it doesn't feel comfortable and i dont like how she slides down in it.

am contemplating the close baby carrier or the moby wrap. any reviews?

umf · 17/11/2010 19:17

Congratulations sarah and blondecat! blondecat I really hope you're getting some help with the feeding now. There's good advice on the boards here but contact La Leche or Association of Breastfeeding Mothers or NCT if you're not getting the support you need.

smokey v glad to hear you're being looked after!

Vix7 I've got a Moby wrap on a recommendation from a slingy-friend. Also have a BabyBjorn Active from last time. Baby still internal so can't tell you if I like the Moby, but it is friend's favourite and she's tried several. DS likes it for his doll!

Hmmm, I'm finding recognising labour - or at least prelabour - pretty darn difficult second time. Possibly only becomes clear in retrospect.

JFly · 17/11/2010 19:42

Congrats, blondecat! I remember I had pain around the site of my canula weeks/months after my CS. Not sure if it was related, but will take your tip if another CS.

Hope feeding improves. Keep DS with you (skin to skin, blah, blah) as much as you can. I found lying down much much easier in the first few hours/days. Not a lot of room in those beds, but whatever way you can feed comfortably, do it. Definitely push for help at hospital (assume you're there for a couple days) and if they aren't doing enough then umf is right - phone BF counsellor or LLL.

Umf, that's so funny you said that about labour signs. At my MW appt today the MW gave me a sheet on how to recognise the signs of labour. She asked if I wanted it 2nd time around and I said yes, of course! I think it's only natural to forget what happened 1st time. Especially early labour.

Slings: we used a baby bjorn for a bit with DS, but then I bought the Ergo when he was about 4 months old. Brilliant carrier for both partners to use and esp good if you have a bad back. I've bought the infant insert for this baby, so plan to use it again from newborn.

Mibby · 17/11/2010 19:47

Hiya

Will catch up on posts later but just wanted to say Annabel Louise arrived at 7.48am Monday morning, 8lb 13.5oz after 36hr labour (plan went out the window), forceps, episotomy and tearing. Im well stitched and sore but ok. Feeding got off to a rocky start but is getting there.

Hope everyone else is ok

grinningbee · 18/11/2010 08:07

Congratulations Blondecat and Mibby!

Comtessa the rat throwing in Ikea sounds just like something dh would do... bless him!

smokeybacon · 18/11/2010 09:53

Lovely to check in to see some more babies.
Congrats to blondecat and mibby.

mibby were/are you at QMC?

comtessa · 18/11/2010 10:38

Congratulations Blondecat and Mibby. Sorry to hear about the interventions and tearing Mibby but glad to know that you and DD are safe and happy. Lovely name, BTW.

Further "squeezes" but not painful contractions last night, but nothing this morning. Sigh. Okay, what are the things to do to help labour? Except sex, am way too huge and unwieldy to attempt that now!

Mibby · 18/11/2010 11:00

We were at Nottingham City smokeybacon

Rough night last night but we expected it atfer the chaotic day. Naps all round later i think. Midwife has just been, all is going well :)

excuse the left handed typing :)

umf · 18/11/2010 11:04

Congratulations Mibby!! Wow, that was quite a labour you got through! (Another) lovely name!

Err, JFly, what does it say on your sheet?? Suspect am just going to have a v protracted prelabour here. Woken up 4 times in the night by big ouches which went away - again. But I'm ok with it, since probably a good sign if body preparing itself like this.

I second the local anaswotsit advice for canula!

Fenouille · 18/11/2010 12:08

Congrats mibby and blondecat hang on in there with the feeding, it does get better (says someone who's not quite there yet but starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel)

pyjamalover · 18/11/2010 12:41

loving all the birth stories, sarah your homebirth sounds amazing, how nice to be on your sofa a few hours later. I'm 39+6 and have had enough now, come on baby! Have tried a few things to bring on labour, and have had the occasional hour or 2 of contractions which then stop. Am going to antenatal clinic tomorrow and might ask for a sweep, but the registrar I keep seeing in clinic is a bloke who I vaguely know from when I worked in the hospital I'm having the baby in and am a bit embarrassed, I know he's an obstetrician and has seen it all before, but we've worked together!

it's reassuring that all the ladies with very long labours and loads of interventions still say it was all worth it.
