Just a new thread as I noticed we are near the limit (again)!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PDR · 15/11/2010 14:18

Tarlia - what pain are you experiencing? And are the Mothercare trousers you speak of dark grey and soft looking with a wide band at the top? I have my eye on them Wink!

My physio band just arrived and unless I am doing it wrong it's too small :( I am a size 20 normally though so perhaps they don't make them big enough!

americanexpat · 15/11/2010 14:22

I tend to get a stitch at the bottom of my bump when I walk too quickly and push myself. I've been feeling a bit worn down lately, generally a bit poorly, out of breath, just needing to lie down for a bit randomly. I'm expecting my blood results to come back as anaemic but maybe these are normal pregnancy symptoms? I do feel a bit bad that I can't do as much physically as I used to (like sending DH off to the allotment to dig while I have a nap) but I have to remind myself that my body is under a lot of stress right now.

angels - I feel a combination of high and low kicks. In the past couple weeks, I've started to feel him make general movements instead of just kicks. He tends to push back when I lean forward and squish my bump a bit - much like I do when DH tries to crowd me in bed!

smallblackflowers · 15/11/2010 14:34

suzy I'm signed off with pretty much exactly the same symptoms as you, and I felt terrible when calling work to tell them about my sick note too. Am signed off until Friday, then I have 3 days off next week when my mum is coming to stay. I'll have a go at going back in next week and will see how I get on.

Tarlia Shock at you being signed off for the rest of your pregnancy - I hope you are ok! I would love the rest of my pregnancy off work, think I would just sleep, sleep, sleep, the way that I am feeling at the moment.

I had my GTT this morning and nearly passed out within about 10 mins of arriving at the hospital. It did mean that I got a comfy recliner in a cubicle instead of having to sit for 2 hours in a hard chair in what can only be described as a waiting room, which is where they put the other 8 ladies who were having the same. What a thoughtless arrangement.

I've also had contact from 2 doulas following the feelers that I put out yesterday. I'll have a chat with them both tomorrow and take it from there!

Tarlia · 15/11/2010 14:37

PDR yoga stylee with a light grey band that can be folded down or over the bump to keep it warm? Really you must, they are just so comfy - I actually changed into them when I got home and am lounging around in them now. I'm sure when I get huge I'll venture out in them too, as they are smart enough as far as joggers go, but I'll probably need tights for these climates. Sorry your support band doesn't fit :( Hope you can return it for another size!
Pain wise, seriously I'm falling to bits! I have the 'stitch', high BP (but urine fine), back and hip pain and a weird pain going all the way down the back of one leg - can hardly walk.. I have a pre-existing join condition anyway, and I think that is why Dr signed me off so quickly, as I can do long term damage. She asked me when I had been planning to work until, to which I replied 36 weeks - she actually laughed at me! Shock To be fair to me though, thats when maternity pay kicks in over here as standard.

american I think that sounds like pregnancy, but hope your bloods come back soon so you can start boosting your iron if that is the reason.

angels Regarding kicks, I also have a HA placenta and have only in the last 2 weeks been getting kicks around my belly button, before they were all around the crease where belly meets bikini line.

Tarlia · 15/11/2010 14:41

SBF Cross post! Hope you get signed off for more time if you feel you need it! Sleep sounds good - I think I might be doing more of that as I'm often awake for long periods in the night in pain.
Poor you, nearly passing out! I hope you are feeling OK now, I have my next one at 30 weeks and I'm dreading it!! Fingers crossed, you get the all clear! Was it you that has a farewell piece of black forest gateau last night? I was laughing and also drooling- YUUM!!

smallblackflowers · 15/11/2010 15:37

Tarlia It was me that had the gateau last night, and it was very yummy - I recommend it as a pre GTT test treat! Am still feeling wiped out, but thankfully don't have the joint pain that you have, I had dreadful SPD in my last pregnancy so can empathise - I guess all we can do is take it easy Smile

Regarding kicks, mine have mainly been very low down, so I have been trying to encourage baby to turn into a head down position as the sooner he gets used to it the better. Have been bouncing on my gym ball which tends to do the trick for a few hours, but then as soon as I slouch on the sofa he is back to being feet down again, the cheeky monkey!
I'm hoping the fact that I can feel the kicks low down means that my low lying anterior placenta is moving away from the exit too.

suzym1984 · 15/11/2010 15:46

smallblackflowers what does your sicknote actually say? I just spoke to a dr over the phone so god knows what it will say when i pick it up! I too plan to sleep, sleep and more sleep. And I might even wash some of the baby clothes ive been buying and get them put away.

I am getting the 'stitch' feeling too, and also a feeling higher up (just under left rib) that feels like ive pulled a muscle, ouch!!!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 15/11/2010 16:19

hello everyone, sorry to hear about people getting signed off and hope you all get the pain relief you need. can't imagine having to deal with spd on top of all the othe pregnancy rubbish!

i've been getting kicked low down (almost on my bottom Blush) and in the ribs, ouch! insomnia has returned with a vengeance as can't get comfy now and feel so massive.

haven't been online so much recently because of moving, decorating/ moving+ pregnancy= exhaustion. Had a funny turn (probably low blood pressure, again...) this morning and having to lie down this afternoon. Made good progress in the new place though and can't wait to start decorating the nursery.

sorry to any aiden fans but I thought it was a bit funny that katie mad eit through AGAIN! she's obviously not going to win so why did simon vote to save her? i'm with angels on the cher thing, i just don't get it! rebecca to win!

anyway, back to telling mr needtosleep where to put things... Grin

Dreya · 15/11/2010 17:18

Hello all,

I'm not a regular poster but have just seen this fab thread. :) I am due Feb 1st with my first baby. I am having a girl and am so excited. I'm sorry to hear so many of you have been experiencing pain. I don't want to speak too soon but I have had no pain really except maybe a bit in my pelvis when i get up after sitting for long periods or when I get up in the morning but it goes soon as I start moving. Also I have not yet experienced any braxton hicks. Even 'kicking' just feels like little pulses or bubbling..?! Reading about all the painful kicks in the ribs etc has made me quite concerned. I keep saying to my DH 'Why isn't she kicking really hard?! Why is she not keeping me up at night with her activity?!' I realise I might be 'lucky' but I just feel anxious.

wigglesrock · 15/11/2010 17:25

Hello all, glad your doctor was a bit more sympathetic suzy, take your time with feeling better, your sick note will probably just say pregnancy related illness.

tarlia I was signed off from about this stage with dd2, just feeling general shittyness but because I am on my feet for the whole time at work, my doctor signs off pretty quickly!!! Am still struggling on at work but am off next weekend so really looking forward to the break.

I am still raging about Aiden, he made me feel young againGrin, I think I'm too old to get Cher which probably means she's really good Smile

smallblackflowers · 15/11/2010 17:41

suzy my sick note said 'pregnancy related problems' which was nice and vague but gives no chance of misinterpreting the cause of the 'sickness', I expanded a bit and described faintness and exhaustion for which the prescription was lots of rest!

welcome Dreya, and enjoy your pleasant pregnancy whilst you can!

wiggles I really don't get Cher either, but that's because I'm an aged indie kid with a bad case of music snobbery!

wigglesrock · 15/11/2010 18:00

Sbf - Mr Wiggles is the same, very aged indie kid (before it was called indie Grin), he just looks at her and repeats "what am I missing?" Is it just me or is she the oldest looking 17 year old ever!!

Dreya hello, my kicks feel more like pulses too, this is my 3rd and I still panic a bit about everything!! I ate some blue cheese last week as part of a chicken wing dip thing and have guilted about it all weekend Smile

tadjennypumpkinpie · 15/11/2010 18:00

Sorry to hear about all the pregnancy related pains and insomnia. I am not sleeping very well, but that's because ds keeps waking up several times a night. Dh is flying to Europe tomorrow for a couple of weeks and I imagine I will be v tired when he gets back from lifting the dcs in and out of cars, baths, etc! My little ones kicks can be quite painful and my stomach looks like John Hurt in the Alien a lot of the time!

Welcome Dreya and wishing lots of rest and recovery to everyone else.

angels1 · 15/11/2010 18:17

I find cher just looks painfully thin (and remember, you always look fatter on TV than in RL). DH says she's 'mentaly unstable' as she's a bit all over the place.

Thanks for the mothercare joggers recommendation - I have looked online and I now covet those yoga joggers. Am thinking of buying online but I'm between 2 sizes - an recommendations as to whether they come up big or small?

I'm on the verge of buying a baby bjorn original baby carrier - has anyone got any experience of this and if it's worth buying? I know prof is a bit of an expert in the carrier/slings area. I want to use it to carry baby around house if it won't otherwise settle and to go out for walks with DP/little trips out on my own in the early days to get fresh air every day without lugging the pram about. I do have a bad lower back and I'm not sure if this one is particularly good for back support. If anyoen has advice I'd be most grateful :)

and suzy my sick notes have said 'pg related problems' and 'pregnancy complications', very non specific!

OP posts:
smallblackflowers · 15/11/2010 19:07

angels I have an old classic baby bjorn in my carrier collection, and found it fine when DD was tiny, but it killed my back later on (from about 2 or 3 months old and she wasn't a big baby) My favourite is my close baby carrier, which I used until DD was about 9 months when I progressed onto a patapum back carrier.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 15/11/2010 19:17

I think the Bjorn is lousy for back support, frankly. Especially the original Bjorn -- the Active is better but still not great.

If you have back problems already then I'd probably look at a wrap sling or wrap-style sling. Popular makes include the Moby, Hug-a-bub or Calin Bleu - or you could look at a Close Baby Carrier which is like a wrap in terms of the support it offers but is less faff.

Or if a wrap is too awkward for you (they do take a bit of getting used to) a structured soft carrier like the Rose and Rebellion.

Or if you want something Bjorn-like then a Kelty Kangaroo is good and kinder to your back than a Bjorn, although (as with the Bjorn) won't last past 6-9 months whereas the others (except probably the Close Baby Carrier) would see you into toddlerhood. I used one of those with DS when I got fed up with tying and untying the wrap.

EauRouge · 15/11/2010 19:21

We have a Baby Bjorn and I hate it. DH loves it though. I think it is due to our differing shapes, I have quite an ample bosom and a small waist so I never could get the straps comfy and DD would just hang from my shoulders which hurt like hell. I much prefer my ring sling which spreads the weight across my whole back but DH never got on with it.

If there's a sling meet near you then they will probably let you try a few out so you can decide which to buy. Defo look on ebay, there are loads of bargains on there.

suzym1984 · 15/11/2010 19:29

Thanks angels and smallblakflowers I gues I am now just worrying that when I go to get my note on wednesday it might not say pregnancy related, and then the sickness will go on my record?! wish i wasnt such a worrier!

I have also fancied getting a sling and have been looking at the babasling as apparently they are good for descrete breast feeding. Anyone have any experience with this type of sling?

WanderingSheep · 15/11/2010 19:53

Hi! Smile

Welcome Dreya! Smile

I'm so sorry to hear that people are having lot of pain/being signed off work etc. Sad None of you should feel guilty about it though - its just one of those things. I personally, Would take the opportunity to take it as easy as poss (I know it can be boring) and get ready for the new arrivals.

I've been in such a bad mood recently, I don't know what's wrong with me! And to top it off today, I took DD to the shop. She rode in the pushchair as I wanted to be quick and we went through a huge pile of leaves. Hidden underneath was a big pile of dog poo Angry so the pushchair went through it, I stood in it and then DD got it on her shoes by resting her foot on the wheel that was covered in it! I was so Angry I could have killed someone!

Anyone else been having hormonal rages? The other day I burst into tears over a bar of chocolate Blush. I had a small bar of galaxy, that i was really looking forward to and DH gave it to DD. I was so upset and I cried Blush.

suzym1984 · 15/11/2010 20:12

Sorry to hear about your awful day wanderingsheep! I am having hormonal rages too, almost anything will set me off!

WanderingSheep · 15/11/2010 20:28

Sorry! I'm such a whinger aren't I? Grin

Today hasn't been that awful really, just that incident which put me into a murderous rage! DD has been as good as gold and we've had a nice time playing and she's let me get on with jobs without a fuss. I shouldn't complain really!

Dreya · 15/11/2010 21:17

Thank you for the welcomes :) Wanderingsheep I too have been having hormonal rages. I had one today whilst trying to work out my clubcard tesco points value. I couldn't work out how much I needed to buy something and was getting frustrated at my dimness and so was DH and whilst trying to explain in janet & john language he raised his voice just a little and the water works started! We did laugh about it afterwards (and I eventually worked the clubcard thing out)Grin

I agree that those with sick notes should not feel guilty about having to stay home. Your health and your babies is far more important.
I can't believe Cher is only 17! She does look older. I think being so painfully thing is ageing perhaps? I read in the paper recently or heard it on tv that 'she has the body of a teenager and the face of a pensioner' How awful is that?!

ZeroMinusZero · 15/11/2010 21:28

Is anyone else watching Coppers? Amazing show!

WanderingSheep · 15/11/2010 21:33

I hated Cher at first but I've been warming to her a little recently. She's seemed a bit more humble and not as cocky in the last few weeks. Like everyone else has said though, I really don't see what the judges see. Sure she has an ok voice but I hate rap and most of the time she looks like the type that would mug your granny!
