Just a new thread as I noticed we are near the limit (again)!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
wigglesrock · 02/11/2010 21:37

oooh GFIsMyLoveSlave had completely forgotten about the poo that explodes up the back of the nappy and up the inside of the babygro. Have to admit simply taking the scissors to the vest and cutting it off at the shoulders, not even sure if my washing machine could cope with that level of poo!!

I used to keep a change of clothes for me in the baby bag and about 3 extra babygros!! The main reason I didn't bother with baby books was the "up, fed and dressed by 7am", seriously I couldn't do that for myself never mind a baby as well Grin

MizK · 02/11/2010 21:42

Hi everyone, been catching up with interest! I have to be honest re Gina Ford and say she saved my life when I had my son, simply because the routines made me feel more in control (had 3 year old DD plus newborn at age 20 so was v overwhelmed by everything). I fully plan on following again (maybe not to letter) and the single most useful piece of advice I took from her was to fit blackout blinds and add blackout lining to curtains - in fact I actually slept better with those fitted too!
Just also going to add my two pennies worth re guilt at being signed off work - PLEASE dont beat yourselves up! Being brave and struggling on helps precisely nobody in the end, and the more rested we are before birth the better! I admit feeling a bit bad for the fact I'm stopping work on Xmas Eve when I'll still have 6 weeks to go, but honestly? I'm tired and want to put my feet up for a bit before my life turns upside down again....

ZeroMinusZero · 02/11/2010 22:12

Hello mizk glad to have you with us. Now that I'm on mn I'm not sure how much I care about baby books as you can get such good advice from the ladies on here. Ive already learned so much about conception, birth and babies I feel like I could do a degree in blw and brands of nappy (apparently tesco and lidl are both suprisingly good).

tpt I am still on 9 even though I feel like a Jupiter sized whale. Am now watching masterchef on Iplayer in bed :)

WanderingSheep · 02/11/2010 22:27

I definitely agree with MizK re work and not feeling guilty! Your health and mental health are much more important (and not to mention that of your baby).

WanderingSheep · 02/11/2010 22:30

I think I forgot to say "hello" to Mubm before so hi and welcome! Smile

Bonfireoftadjennyp, good news about mole! One less thing to worry about! Fingers crossed for Thursday!

bonfireofthejennyps · 03/11/2010 05:44

Billy Bragg was fab wiggles - really entertaining! Just what I needed to take my mind of personal stuff. Grin Thanks for all the kind messages. Smile I don't know about everyone else who is having problems, be they SPD or vomiting or whatever, but the support is really helping me get through. Blush

angels1 · 03/11/2010 07:31

jenny hope all goes well tomorrow - shall be thinking of you.

Thanks all for the advice on books etc (especially the news on the exploding poos which I'm ever so slightly scared of Confused ). I'm quite a routine orientated person (must be the teacher in me who thrives on the organisation/normalilty of the school timetable every day) so from what you've said I think bits of Gina Ford will be of interest to me, but then, I have decided that the first month will just be a get by however I can manage with no thought towards a routine time. I think only then will I feel up to trying to get things organised a little.

Got mw today and am wondering if it's time for another blood test Shock

geekygiraffe · 03/11/2010 09:03

angels1 I agree - aiming to survive the first few weeks, and will then think about routines. Normally I'm very routine-driven (former teacher!), but since getting pregnant I seem to drift along much more.

knittakid · 03/11/2010 09:51

Good news Jenny, and good luck tomorrow!

angels glad you are up already, could you recommend a mincemeat recipe? Smile

PDR · 03/11/2010 09:52

Morning!

Just spoken to my doctor and he has signed me off with immediate effect for 2 weeks becuase of my SPD. I know I shouldn't but I am going into the office this afternoon as I don't want to make a big fuss over getting cover as I have already swapped my shift so I can go to the Osteopath this morning.

I'm sure my colleagues will think I'm being a drama queen but I am in a lot of pain and I have to do what's right for me and my family.

DS will still go to nursery so hopefully will get quite a lot of time to rest (and go on MN!)

Hope everyone is having a good day so far... Angels hope MW doesn't take too much blood!

angels1 · 03/11/2010 10:16

mincemeat recipe knitta - other than mince pies, you could try a mincemeat meringue pie. I once made a bakewell slice recipe only with mincemeat in place of jam, or I made up a short of shortbread base (with the edge going up the sides of the tin) then layer of mincemeat then layer of sliced eating apples then a thin crumbly/streusal topping with cinamon in before cooking. Erm, puff pastry rolled up with mincemeat bit like a swirl/swiss roll then slice up and bake. Oh, of mincemeat cupcakes - just normal fairy cakes with a bit of mixed spice then little spoon of cake mixture in the paper cases, then spoon of mincemeat then spoon of cake on top, makes a mincemeat layer in the middle of the cake :)

PDR glad you're signed off and hope resting will mean you're not in so much pain.

thanks angels, that's made me really hungry now, even though I've just had breakfast... like all of those ideas!... But my question really was for a recipe for making the actual mincemeat, i thought at some point you said you were making some... sorry if it was somebody else!

ledkr · 03/11/2010 10:34

Morning all.
pdri tried to walk dd to school today its max 10 mins across a field. We walked slowly and then even slower on the way back. However i felt as if i might collapse. Was breathless and puffing away and my spd was off the scale.I was just puttng one foot in front of the other like a robot just praying id get home. For this reason i have lost my guilt and will not be returning to work. I am clearly not right so cant cope with it. As for your colleagues dont give it a second thought. How do they know how they would react to pain.My coleague has been refusing to do anything and going off sick weekly since she was 6 wks pg. Sod it.We have the whole of our lives to work.
I have some good x mas tips.Tescos Morrisons and Co op.

angels1 · 03/11/2010 11:07

oh, sorry knitta, yes, it was me. I got the recipe from my mary berry christmas cook book. Would take a while to type it on here though. Had a quick look online to see if it was there for free but can't easily spot it. Have found a few on good food web site - can't personally vouch for them but they have good reviews and stuff I make from good food usually works quite well. I think it's good to make it early to let all the flavours etc mature

Morning everyone, hope you're all okay.

ledkr so sorry about your spd, it sounds horrific and I can't imagine being in that much pain, glad you've decided not to worry about work as you're right we have our whole lives to do that.

angels I love mary berry and have her cakes cookbook which has the best lemon drizzle cake recipe, yum yum Wink. I also love Elizabeth David and her xmas cookbook has a good recipe for mincemeat knitta.

Good news about the mole geeky, and good luck for tomorrow. Let us know how you get on.

Oh, I'm late for TPT tuesday but measured this morning and have shrunk a bit and back down to 7.5 sheets. Do you think it's because of the way he's laying or something because I certainly don't look any smaller. knitta have you noticed you're stomach is smaller or do you think it could be the same thing? I'm glad I'm not the only one anyway.

Birthing ball arrived yesterday and I LOVE IT!!!!! Unfortunately, so does OH and he's already fallen off... he really is a boy in men's clothing Grin

Welcome to all newbies, haven't read everything yet as there's so much! Must try harder....

wigglesrock · 03/11/2010 11:58

Morning all, decided to have a nosy at prams this morning, we are both off work and dds are at school/nanas Grin Got really excited looking at them, almost jumping up and down shouting "want that one" Blush. As I mentioned before we had really expensive good pram for dd1 and dd2 but it is now knackered, so think I have picked one, now have to go and break the news to my parents (they are buying us the pram). Much cheaper than previous one, is it just me or have prams/buggies got sooo much lighter and slightly cheaper in the past 5 years?

Ledkr sorry you were in so much pain this morning, I am now officially banning all work related guilt Wink take care

Oh I will also add my favourite Christmas tips : M&S and slightly more alcohol than you think you need (for other people of course Grin)

wigglesrock · 03/11/2010 12:14

Meant to say angels love your girls name, was on baby names topic Blush I have always loved that name but it's much too close to my real name to use Envy

smallblackflowers · 03/11/2010 12:19

Hello all, I'm still off work with my tummy bug - although I probably could have dragged myself in today - just feeling totally whacked and still no appetite, so it must still be lingering to some extent.
The only problem with being stuck at home is the call of online shopping....I have now officially started my Xmas shopping and have just ordered a new mattress for my bedside crib. Will hopefully win the £52k 'this morning' prize to compensate Grin

ledkr it really sounds like some crutches would help you - they were a great help for me in my last pg - although I did have to carry my bits and bobs around in a small backpack as handbags and crutches are really not compatible. The height of glamour Hmm

WanderingSheep · 03/11/2010 13:50

Hello!

I'm so sorry that people are having to be signed off work Sad. SPD sounds hellish! I'm luckily not feeling too bad with walking apart from a bit of muscular pain in my bump. With DD it was agony (the muscular pain) so I can't imagine how you lot must be feeling. I know it's not the MN "thing" but sending you all virtual (((hugs))). Smile

Good luck for tomorrow TadJennyP!

The Christmas recipe suggestions are making me feel quite festive already- and hungry, although I much prefer Ledkr's suggestion of popping to Tesco! Wink

I'm on the lookout for a new pram too. We haven't had a look in the shops yet but I've been looking on the Internet. There doesn't seem to be much within budget though Sad which is basically going to be my Healthy Start Grant. I was looking at the Graco Cleo but I could only find one review which was terrible!

knittakid · 03/11/2010 14:04

Thanks for the mincemeat recomendations everyone, ended up doing a mixture of a few recipes, 6 pounds of it! I love mincepies, and have to make up for the 25 years of not eating them...
Smile at ledkr's preferences, I just like making life hard for myself, and secretely really enjoy it, I think it must have been the school nuns that did that.
needto I don't know why I've shrunk, like you I'm not smaller, it might have been as you say the way he was lying, and in the beginning i was quite worried but he (soooo hard not to write 'it', how odd) has kept on moving as usual. The grownth in the past 4 weeks seems to have been in sporadic peaks, rather than a smooth curve, weird.

WanderingSheep · 03/11/2010 14:46

My stomach shrank for TPT too! I'm definitely not smaller though and my fundal height has grown as I can feel my uterus way above my belly button and I can feel baby movements higher up. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure it's just bump shape changing in different ways and obviously the baby changing position etc. Or I'm hoping that maybe I've lost some back fat! Grin

angels1 · 03/11/2010 15:52

thanks wiggles for the positive comments on my current fave girl name choice. No one has come on and said they really hate it, and lots of people seem to like it (thought it would be much more mixed response) so it's a definate maybe.

MW appointment fine - discovered that since I have an anterior placenta I might get more painful kicks in my inners Shock . I wonder how painful they might get.... Hmm

well done knitta on the mincemeat Grin

sheep what do you think of the mothercare vesta? That's what were going for and its less than £190.

In other news I'm ringing the mw tomorow about my pains as they haven't improved. I just hope she isn't as rubbish as the doctor was.

I have been inspired to make mincemeat too. Have all of the ingredients in the cupboard except for an orange and some brandy as I overstocked for the Xmas pudding. Can someone with experience let me know if circles of baking paper can be used instead of waxed circles for putting on top of the mincemeat?
