Oooh I get so confused when it comes to prams/pushchairs, I'm just glad someone has bought a whole set before me so that I can just come along and get all the bits with extras at next to nothing. Actually quite glad I'm not searching for a new one, I can't decided what to have for breakfast at the moment, let alone what pushchair to get! I guess it all comes down to practicality Tabs.

3k · 13/10/2005 14:03

Hello,

I've been looking at the travel systems and we really like the Trenton Delux in Mothercare. All Mothercare buggies are made by Graco believe it or not. This one has the car seat that attaches on the pushchair but also has a carrycot bit that fits in the pushchair so you can use it as a pram. It saves the baby sitting in the car seat and you can have him/her facing you from birth too which is what I like. It's £260 for the lot inlcuding changing bag. We are holding out till after the babyshow as want to make sure it is the one we want but we popped to Babies R Us last weekend and couldnt find any better ones.

We have chosen the Winnie the pooh cotbed from Mothercare too and it is on a nursery plan where you pay bit by bit. DH dad is going to make us fitted wardrobes - he is excellent with woodwork - so the wardrobes will be storage for toys too and will grow with the baby.

I'm so excited, got my nappies last week which I won and they are from Onelife and worth £75. Have a look here www.onelifeworld.com/ we got a set of 5 nappies, 3 covers, 100 liners and all in a really nice vanity type bag.

popadopalis · 13/10/2005 14:29

Hello girls! Well I went to docs and he has signed me off again for another four weeks and probably til my maternity leave in Decemeber. Quite relieved as was getting way too tired and feeling sick again.

Frizbe - Mentioned my 'pubic discomfort'! He said there was nothing that could be done, it's just evrything loosening up and rubbing together. He told me not to walk too much. Made a complete idiot of myself because he asked where it hurt and I coulnd't think of how to explain (having a spongy, pregnant brain!) so pointed to my pubic region and he said, "So in the middle then?". Oh right yes that'll be where!!!

Bewitched - Sorry to burst your bubble about Two L/R Feet. They may not be too bad if you go to the showroom and pick up the stuff yourself. Maybe it's just if it needs delivering. Twiga is in Aberdeen so it had to be sent quite a way. Hope you manage to get your stuff okay. I'd love to meet up in November after my lovely hodilays!! I'm really excited although not too keen on the hovercraft thing. Bad enough being sick on land let alone on sea!!

Has anyone decorated their nursery yet? What colour/style/theme? I haven't done mine yet but it'll be yellow/Winnie the Pooh style. Haven't got any furniture yet either but MIL is buying the cotbed so we'll choose furniture to go with that. There's too much to buy, hopefully not so much next time round, if I can actually face the thought!!!

popadopalis · 13/10/2005 14:31

Flamebat - I'm catching up with the eating! I've already had two breakfasts and one lunch and I'm really hungry again so off to eat another one! I'm also supposed to be going out for tea tonight so lots more to eat then!!!

flamebat · 13/10/2005 14:41

Yay for being signed off again. You'll probably get stroppy and bored, but I think its for the best.

I've not eaten much today . I've got a twingey tummy, which I think is stress related. Money has gone bleurgh, and the more I think about it, the more worked up I get. The past few months I have gone from loving being a SAHM to wanting to be a parttime one because I feel all trapped and like I'm losing myself, but I can't see any way out of it. We can't afford to send DD to nursery at all, if I got a part time job, then childcare would probably end up costing more than I earn, there is not much point in me doing an evening course (and we probably couldn't afford one) because I naturally get tired easily, and the further the pregnancy goes, I wouldn't be able to keep it up. I'm spending more and more time on here while DD plays just to have a brain that works.

I'm worrying about depression (I have a history) - I think I had antenatal depression with DD (I hadn't heard of it then though), and I'm getting more and more low as the weeks go on. My friends have all got really screwed up lives right now, so can't lean on them.

I'm scared of having a boy and not knowing what to do with one or how to raise him.

I've got a landlord inspection on Sunday and I'm too tired to clean. I'm worrying about him putting our rent up.

flamebat · 13/10/2005 14:41

I'm sorry, I don't know where all that came from.

Chloe55 · 13/10/2005 15:12

Oh no Flame you sound very down-hearted. I know we are all meant to feel on top of the world at this point but I think emotions are taking over more than they ever have at the moment, well with me they are anyway.

If it helps to know I can tell you we are struggling on the cash front, I want to be a SAHM but can't afford it, DH often goes out on the piss without a thought for me, my job sucks and I had a complete breakdown in the car on the way home late one night last week. I have NEVER been like that in my life - I thought my head was going to burst I had got myself so worked up, I am also worried that I can not cope with this being my first and always thought I would be such a good mum but with the way I flip from Jeckyl and Hyde at the moment I am having my doubts! I have a lot of close friends but none that actually understand what I am going through which is why I am so grateful for this site

3k · 13/10/2005 15:21

I've been feeling low too, very teary, tired and fed up in general. DH went out on Sat night till 3am and I was really annoyed too as we cant afford it and I'm the one staying at home not being able to go out. My ligaments are killing me and I reckon this antenatal depression thing makes sense. I'd never really heard from it before but my friend said I have my been myself for weeks. We will have to all be miserable together!!

Frizbe · 13/10/2005 15:28

Flame you'll be fine, don't worry, boys are easier to clean than girls!!
Popa lol at you! guess docs are used to it tho how much food tho, you on the grow girl?!

Well could have done with out what just happened this afternoon, out with dd, nearly got into town, a few streets walk away, dd is insisting she walks, so I'm holding her hand and pushing the buggy...hear her peep, look down and she's trodden in some bloody dog do....which she then proceedes to get on both shoes, up the side, as I try and put her in pushchair to race home and clean her up, up her skirt and tights, onto her finger, which she then tries to put in her mouth....I must have looked like a psycho off supernanny, dragging her down the street by the arm, as she kept refusing to walk, or trying to run off up peoples drives, covered in poo .....all clothes and coat now in wash, along with shoes sitting in bleach after a scrub....grrrrrr so mad at the people who don't clean up after their animals.....wouldn't mind, but the street actually has signs all over it warning of fines, and some residents have them in their windows, so looks like they're up in arms about it already....argh! slowly starting to see the funny side.....so long as dd doesn't go down with some horrible disease.....

flamebat · 13/10/2005 16:37

Seriously considering asking DH to call in sick tomorrow because I can't face another day of just me and DD with me in this mood.

Would that be really wrong?

Chloe55 · 13/10/2005 16:42

Not at all Flame imo. Will probably do you the world of good to have him around with you if you are feeling low. I made DH do just that a couple of months ago. His work will live for a day without him I am sure. Hope your evening brightens a little, get DH to take the day off and get out of the house tomorrow and do something fun

YeahBut · 13/10/2005 17:21

Flame, I think it is perfectly normal to feel the way you do from time to time. Pregnancy is an enormously tiring and stressful time, not to mention the effect of massive hormonal surges. Had PND myself after dd2 so know where you are coming from. It's hard when pregnant and / or breastfeeding to do much about feeling this way but the most useful thing I find if I'm a bit low is to get out and take a walk. (That is NOT meant to be patronising, btw.) Even moderate excercise is meant to help stimulate the brain to produce more feelgood chemicals which give you a lift. I've always found it useful. Can be hard - when I'm a bit down I only really want to sit on the sofa, but if I make myself get up and go, I do feel the benefits. Anyway, sorry for the long ramble - just wanted to let you know that I know what you're feeling.

flamebat · 13/10/2005 19:10

He has to go and look at a building for new premises... so not just not being home all day, but coming home late too.

ixel · 13/10/2005 20:40

Hey Flamebat... I'm in the same money v work situation as you. Nurseries and childminders are so expensive, esp when you add in the fact that ds would be there costing money while I was still travelling to a job and not even earning from the minute I left him. And I cant work while dh is off, as he works shifts including weekends, so I could never do regular hours week by week, or even get a Saturday job. Plus if he worked on his days off he'd be on about 20.00 per hour, which is far more than I'd earn if he was looking after ds instead of me! But I'm just trying to really make the most of being with ds; I know I'll want him back as a tiny person once he's grown up a bit
Happy to report that newbie was wriggling alot yesterday, so its alive! Still finding it really hard to get a heartbeat with the sonic aid though. I thought it'd be easy by this stage, as there seems to be no problems when a pro with a doppler has a go!
Have only been with chicken pox infested boy for a couple of days, and already starting to get cabin fever! Very sick of reading Thomas books, and doing 'more sticking, more scissors mummy'

TicTac · 13/10/2005 21:39

Hi All,
Well back from work at last! I have had a quick scan of the very long thread...

Massive hugs to everyone who is not on top of the worl at the minute...if it helps, I burst into a fit of uncontrollable tears at the check in people at the hotel I was staying in! Very emotional because I didn't like my room...longer story then that but imagine how embarrased!!!

Nursery - we are doing a green and lemon theme with some Zeddy and Rhubarb stuff from M&P. We have bought our cot (M&P Elouise cot bed) but other then that...not started anything yet.

Work is mega pants, seems they are now sacking people of email usage...about 15 people have gone already!!

flamebat · 13/10/2005 22:12

No themes here - Did humphrey's corner with DD and went off it fairly quickly (it seemed to babyish), so this time, we still have the humphrey bumper which now covers the rocking chair, and apart from that, it is just basic coloured blankets.

If its a girl then we might see about making the room girlie at a later date.

I'm slightly brighter now. I went to my mum's for the evening and told her all about DD not liking toddlers (I left that bit out earlier... she doesn't like toddler groups, she's fine with mixed age children, but all her own age and she just clings to me, and its got me worrying about school etc), and she has said that we can probably work out her having one or two mornings a week at the local nursery - I said there was no way that we could spare the money, and she said that she meant that she would pay for it!

She quite often gets upset that she works full time and can't be a "proper gran" like her friends who have their grandchildren a couple of days a week so the mum can work etc, so I am guessing this is something she wants to do so that she feels she is helping more.

I'll look into it more in the next few weeks.

Frizbe · 13/10/2005 23:47

Ah Tictac, they use that as an excuse to downsize where I used to work....pants eh, horrible atmosphere it creates. Just you wait until you burst into tears at work, for no apparent reason! very embarrasing

{{{Hugs}}} to Flame for feeling so down, eat lots of bananas hon, they help boost your mood apparently, same to you Ixel, don't even want to imagine what being stuck inside with a pox'd child will do to my sanity when it happens....are you ok with bump and the pox?

Chloe55 · 14/10/2005 08:50

Morning girlies,

Hope we are all well this morning. My DH went away last night on his mates stag do and I had a very broken sleep (I never do sleep well in the house on my own), my dog loves it though coz he gets to sleep in our bedroom - yes I know, slate me, very unhygenic blah blah blah!

I broke down and cried at work a month or so ago - so humiliating, particularly when a colleague of mine is going through a messy divorce of 26 years marriage and she was the one comforting me, I felt so pathetic!

I am ready to do the nursery now - Eeyore stuff is pouring out of the room and I went to buy paint etc last night so really looking forward to a weekend of decorating with my friends whilst the lads are away at play.

flamebat · 14/10/2005 09:09

Nah, if the dog is there then cuddle him! You're used to him being around, so are immune to any germs off him anyway

I'm much brighter today - it is only 9.07 though, so we have time

I took a pile of iron last night, and drank chamomile tea before bed. DD slept through for the first night in aaaaaages, and then didn't come in to me til 8am.

I'm planning to take her swimming in a bit - thought it might do the two of us some good. Then hopefully she'll sleep for a while when we get back, and I can get some housework done (going to be starting a housework thread if anyone wants to join in).

Big hugs to everyone, and hope you're all feeling brighter too.

Bewitched · 14/10/2005 09:33

Morning ladies. Just a quick hello from me as I'm off to a midwife appointment in 5 mins, but will come back on afterwards and tell you all about my first NCT class that I had last night.

ixel · 14/10/2005 10:13

Hi Frizbe... bump is safe, as I had chicken pox when I was a day old, so cant get it again. Luckily! When dh came out in shingles, it took ages to get an answer as to whether bump was safe as the midwife and the paediatrician didn't know! But it is safe, as you can only get it from your dormant pox virus, brought out by stress or other illnesses etc.

i have nothing to add to the decor discussion... once this one leaves our room, it'll be sharing with ds, so its Fimbles, like it or not! We do have 3 bedrooms, but I'd rather they learnt to share while they're little.
We didn't do ds's room properly when we moved in, as it all needs replastering etc... big job...so just put up pictures and a border and got nice blinds. I figure that by the time we get round to doing a proper job, both kids will have opinions anyway, so might aswell leave it till then!

Bewitched · 14/10/2005 11:17

Ok, so I'll start with the good news from last night. The class was great . 7 couples in all, with due dates ranging from 2nd Dec to 4th Feb. They've obviously taken someone else on since I spoke to them last week, as we were the 6th couple and the latest date by 2 weeks at the time! All were really nice and seemed to get on as couples and as a 'boy group' and 'girl group'. As we were short of a proper venue we had last night's class in the branch chair's living room, but we've offered our house for classes after next week - just hope it's not too far for anyone, as we are the furthest south.

There was lots of getting to know each other and talking about the things we liked and didn't like about pregnancy, and we drew up lists of the things that we definitely wanted to cover, so that the teacher can use this to plan an agenda for each week.

We did one exercise where we had charts of a woman's body and had to stick on a load of post its naming particular organs. The boys were quite funny with this as they made up an extra post it saying 'breast' and stuck that on too! The point of the exercise was to ensure that we all know which bits are being talked about in future classes, as she will use the proper names for everything.

All in all a good experience, and already looking forward to next week's class.

Bewitched · 14/10/2005 11:26

Unfortunately things weren't quite so good at my midwife appointment this morning. I'd forgotten to do a urine sample, so managed to squeeze out only a few drips at the last minute. This then showed both protein and glucose . In case this was just down to the size of the sample, I came home and took another sample back down for her an hour later. The protein had gone, but was still showing a trace of glucose. She advised me to cut down my sugar intake, but as I said I was still doing slimming world and thus not having much sugar to cut back on, she said to cut down on carbohydrate instead. So now this leaves me just about nothing that I can actually eat . Even fruit is high in sugar so needs to be moderated. And my new found carbonara recipe (which I had again for breakfast) will need to be abandoned as white pasta is worse than wholewheat, but carbonara really needs white. Means that basically I have to live on nothing but veg for the next 3 months .

She's given me some test strips and wants me to test my urine twice a week for her, and if the glucose becomes anything more than a trace then I'm to phone her, and we'll try and move my GTT forward. Have to say it's not looking great at the moment though.

Chloe55 · 14/10/2005 11:37

Ooh your class sounds fun, I think that type of thing would scare the sh*t out of my DH though!

As for glucose in your urine, my results showed the same, I do however eat loads of sugar so really should be cutting back on it Veg for 3 months? Yuch!!!

Bewitched · 14/10/2005 11:39

Sorry ladies - that was all very 'me, me, me!'

Sorry to hear that lots of you are feeling a bit down for one reason or another at the mo. Flame - great to hear you sounding chirpier this morning - hope the swim was fun.

Chloe - sounds like you have a lovely weekend ahead to look forward to. Enjoy!
