New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

Sorry to hear that Bubba hopefully you can manouevre #3 to the required position.

At my 28 week scan the midwife wrote mine was transverse on my notes but never said anything to me so am hoping that it will move, although am still getting no movement above my belly button!

RunningKatie · 15/11/2010 20:16

Mini me was on the move today, a major seismic shift this morning which then carried on as obviously they weren't comfortable where they landed.

This would have been fine if at one point they didn't land so hard on my bladder I had to sprint to the nearest toilets very fast or have an accident in the middle of the garden centre. Blush

Bubba - don't they say you can shift them through sitting on a gym ball and things? No idea if it works but must be worth a try?

CupcakesHay · 15/11/2010 20:52

bubba - not too good news - maybe running's gymball might work - or failing that - maybe try lots of energetic dancing at Christmas parties???

I hadn't even thought about position of baby - mine moves from either top f belly button, to bottom near pelvis area. He's always wiggling.

Pootle which pram did you go for?

Also - not sure if it's a delayed craving, but I had chicken pie for breakfast at about 10.15am this morning.... eeek! Blush

BubbaAndBump · 15/11/2010 21:15

Believe me I asked what I could do to get it into the right position - offering to do cartwheels if it would help - midwife laughed and said I'd like to see you try!! :o Nothing you can do if it's properly transverse. Little bugger.

OP posts:
CupcakesHay · 16/11/2010 09:24

So when do I need to start worrying about this "tranverse" thing? When does the baby get into the right position?

Oh - and had last of chicken pie again for breakfast. In my defence, the bread was moudly and no milk for cereal.... Wink

RunningKatie · 16/11/2010 10:03

Chicken pie for breakfast?! :)

Yep, don't think I'll be attempting cartwheels any time soon.

Just had two days off work, 25 working days to go now...... Grin

ZippyPippy · 16/11/2010 11:23

Good news on the gestational diabetes bubba but bad news on the little monkey's position Sad - is it not still quite early to worry and it might move or is it because of your history they think he/she's quite comfy and going to stay put?

flora sorry you are not happy with your care. I have to say I've felt my appointments all quite quick and a bit like I'm on a conveyor belt, but I am able to get appointments easily and contact the midwives with no problem. I've also only seen midwives, I only went to the hospital for the 2 scans so haven't had to deal with the hospital much. Can you perhaps speak to other people in your area who went elsewhere to see if it was more satisfactory?

cupcakes sorry you have the added stress of hubby making it here on time, but try not to worry as from what I gather not many first babies are early!! Can't offer any info on your extra appointment either.

and sorry your gestational diabetes test came positive scuba but at least it's something they can keep an eye on and make sure you and baby are ok.

My bump is majorly on the move too, is actually getting a bit painful, feel like I'm being pummelled from the inside!! Is keeping quite quiet at night though for the moment which will hopefully continue.

Am really undecided about my birth plan too, I was all for going straight in for the epidural from day one, but since starting NCT think maybe I should try a more natural/birth pool route....so hard to know how you will feel come the day...

LadyBuzz · 16/11/2010 15:48

bubba sorry that is crap news, DS2 was transverse iirc and then did an almighty shift which hurt and went head down. I'm pretty sure babybuzz is the same way she was breech at my last app. It doesn't really make much difference to me though as I will be having CS regardless. Unless my waters go then i'll be lying on the floor with my bum in the air Hmm not much chance if the last 2 are anything to go by!!!

pootle which pram did you go for then?

cupcakes they won't worry until around 36 weeks where baby is although first timers are usually head down sooner. They can try and turn them into the right position around then.

Pootle78 · 16/11/2010 19:04

We've gone for a Brittax B Smart 4, when we first saw it we were having a major arguement in the middle of Mothercare as I had some very exacting requirements for the pram and hubby thought I was making it up and you couldn't get what I wanted! The lovely woman in MC showed me this and I thought that's the one! I am 6ft with slight heels on so needed something with a high handle.

We saw 3 or 4 others, went over to Kiddicare so we could compare them next to each other (we must have looked a sight! But would thoroughly recommend that, if you have a chance) and rejected a beautiful Bebecar Carriage pram that was half price because it just wasn't practicle (and I don't think it would have gone in my car or through the front door!)

What are other people going for? I'm glad it is now out of the way as I was fed up of googling prams and prices to get the cheapest deal!

LadyBuzz · 16/11/2010 20:01

I had the opposite problem pootle I had to get one I could see over the top of Grin

I wanted a proper pram for DS1 but it wouldn't go through my front door so we ended up with a M&P Pramette which was good until DS1 was 12 weeks and didn't fit in the pram bit and we had to turn him round, hence me buying a Loola for DS2 so I could see him for longer - I love it. Now I have the best of both worlds for babybuzz! (as well as a few more for good luck!!!)

Shanster · 17/11/2010 03:02

Sorry ladies, I haven't posted in ages, but have been lurking more in the past few weeks!

Pootle78, cupcakes my first was transverse until 38 weeks, and then she turned on her own. You still have some time for them to cooperate! On the pushchair debate, I bought a Teutonia for DD 2 years ago, was an expensive piece of kit which I thought would be perfect for us...little did I know that some children just hate being in a pushchair. From the very beginnning, she didn't like the bassinet, then she didn't like the pushchair no matter which direction it faced. Even when we go to the supermarket now, she pushes the trolley with me and refuses to sit it in. Hopefully I'll get some use out of the pushchair with #2! 10 and a half weeks to go, I need to get more organized. Work is v busy, I am studying for an exam I want to sit before baby comes, and we are potty training #1 right now....not enough hours in the day! Hope everyone else is doing well :)

CupcakesHay · 17/11/2010 05:56

Thanks for advice - so need to to worry about baby's positioning just yet.

Woke up at 6am with such a horrid achy shoulder that I couldn't get back to sleep...

I have a bit of a christmas party thingy at my house on Thursday - for 15 people. Eeeeek. As much as i'm looking forward to it, I keep forgetting I'm pregnant, and end iup doing stuff for it - and then feeling tired. Oh well, fly Saturday - so then a bit of shopping and visiting friends in London and Devon on the 5th, one week for research at school for final assignment and then rest, rest rest! (and pub quizzes!)

I bought a Mamas and Papas Utlima on Gumtree (back in juneBlush) - but everyone always says you need a pushchair, so I have my eye on a Maclaren one for when the baby is a bit older. Not sure how much i'll use it here - no public transport, and no where fun to walk to.... but might get a month's use out of it in Devon.

shanster Exams! Potty Training! No wonder you've been lurking rather than posting!

zippy i know the pummelling feeling. Getting the same lately - i used to love the kicks, but now, just occassionally, the kicks are killers!

FloraPost · 17/11/2010 07:33

Morning all,

Sorry to hear you're still having a rubbish time Bubba. People keep telling me the last trimester flies by; hope this is true!

My blood pressure was back down yesterday after a comparatively high reading last week. I have a growth scan tomorrow morning so fingers crossed. Tiny Flora still finds plenty of room in there to flip about, especially when I'm walking. In fact, I can't walk for more than about 10 minutes without getting a massive stitch all the way across the bump! Very odd.

I've decided to reserve judgement on changing hospitals until I see the GP again in a couple of weeks, take time to ask her lots of questions and not worry about it until then.

Cupcakes you are a wonder; how on earth do you find the energy/inclination to throw parties?! I am one-by-one getting through my list of people who I rudely haven't seen for ages, but it's a bloody effort.

Latest cute stuff I lust after.

CupcakesHay · 17/11/2010 10:16

Aaah - remember I don't work! And it's a bauble party - so i get a new pretty bauble out of it - and then get to see all the girls here before i fly home to start my "confinement"

Have you all seen new Britax First Class Car Seat colours? I'm in love with the Cow Print one - but think £175 is crazy money!!!

I'm in love with that range too flora - it's been circled in my catalogue since it arrived in July.... but i went for more affordable Mothercare Precious Bear. I thin kif I was in my own house, with a nursery to properly decorate then I'd go OTT! Grin

RunningKatie · 17/11/2010 11:18

I'm envious of all this pram talk, we've had a nice one given to us, but i'm looking forward to actually going and buying a pushchair when we need it. I'm trying to convince DP that I really need a baby jogger! :) I think he's thrilled I set up an alert on ebay that goes to his email when a new one goes up for sale.

The wise oracles that are the Admin ladies in my office have said they think the bump has dropped a bit. I'm now off to google what that means and scare myself a bit.

CupcakesHay · 17/11/2010 16:54

Bump dropping sounds like a good thing to me running. How are you feeling by the way? I know you had to have a bit of a rest the other week - are you all better now?

I'm really happy with my pram, but wonder if I rushed in, as in should have tested more. but it was such a bargain, and my friend has one, so I know they're good. I spose I feel - like most of my stuff - that I haven't seen it - it's all in my mum's loft and won't be brought down by my poor dad til I'm actually in Labour!

scubamummy · 17/11/2010 18:15

Thank you for the kind messages and sympathy! I'm feeling much less sorry for myself now that I'm over my initial cake cravings and now that I'm getting used to testing my blood sugar levels, which I found very daunting at first. It's actually very interesting to see how my body reacts to the fuel I put into it. Happily, I seem to be able to control my levels on my new super-healthy diet (only 10 weeks left til I can eat cake!) - fingers crossed that it continues and that I can still give birth at the MLU but I'm learning to be a bit more open-minded about it all. I think I'd been reading too much Ina May Gaskin and had convinced myself that all medical interventions were Bad.

Bubba and cupcakes have you seen the website spinning babies? It's got ideas for how to turn your baby if breech or back-to-back and mapping info so you can work out how they're lying. Apparently, simply thinking about them turning often does the trick!! Hmm

Flora good luck with your BP and scan, how lovely to be able to see the baby again.

I'm envious of all the pram talk too, we're not at all sorted yet, not sure whether to hang on til the sales or whether that's pushing my luck.

Shanster good luck in your exams, what are they for? I've got a project management exam tomorrow, eek! Need to stop being on mn and start cramming...

cupcake you have the pram I wanted for DS1! my niece had one and loved it.

scuba glad you are feeling a bit more positive.

Good luck for the exams ladies.

joeyhammond · 17/11/2010 21:13

Hi Ladies

Just want to introduce myself as a newbie to MN. Im due 21/01/2011 with my first baby. I have no idea what all these abbreviations mean but im sure I will pick it up as i go along. So far my pregnancy has been ok, no major problems, heartburn is still keeping me company grrr! I dont know what sex the baby is yet so we are trying to come up with our shortlist of names yet. Hubby isnt too keen on having decisions made until the baby comes. I think he thinks he will see it and a name will just come to him. Nope i need shortlists!

FloraPost · 17/11/2010 21:17

Hi joey, welcome and congratulations.

CupcakesHay · 18/11/2010 07:42

hi joey - on the name front, i basically fell in love with a name, Dh doesn't hate it, and I said if he can come up with a better name, then fine. But so far he hasn't - and I'm planning to buy letters for the wall when i'm back - so that'll be tough! I'm qa first timer too - and MN abbreviations are a bit tough - although there is a list, which is worth looking at.

These girls on this thread have managed to make me feel sane and much more relaxed about whole thing - and are all SO WISE Grin

scuba pleased it's all going OK - and just think, your DH can get you a lovely cake to celebrate birth! I'm dreaming of blue cheese!

Have put some Christmas Decorations up - even thoug hI'm flying back to Devon on Sat - but only put them up for my party tonight. DH was a bit Bah-Humbug - but I figure it'll look Christmassy for him on Xmas Day when he's sitting here in his pants with the cats playing playstation! Aaah the life of a diplomat! ha ha!

FloraPost · 18/11/2010 12:11

Well. I had the growth scan this morning. All the measurements are normal for the dates except femoral length which is below the 5th percentile. While it could just be that Tiny Flora is a short-arse, short femoral length is a soft marker for Downs. The sonographer asked if the nuchal scan was normal. It wasn't.

Back at work now but feeling a bit wobbly.

RunningKatie · 18/11/2010 12:43

Oh Flora, not sure what to say, no wonder you're wobbly. What have they said to you at the hospital? Do you need to be at work?

Hi Joey - welcome!

Cupcakes - I'm loving the imagery of your DH's Christmas day. Although I did misread it initially and think he was playing the cats playstation. :)

I woke up this morning to find one boob had leaked overnight, all over my arm, explains what the odd feeling was around 5am. Man, I am feeling glamorous today.

Good luck with the exams Scuba and Shanster

LadyBuzz · 18/11/2010 13:24

Flora how will they take it from here? like running said do you need to be at work?
Oh I don't know what to say, poor you.

joey welcome and congratulations

running lovely isn't it, just wait til your milk comes in Grin I remebertrying to get my socks off post CS for a shower and everytime I bent over there was milk everywhere - I couldn't stop laughing and DH was horrified Grin
