Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

Congratulations Lucie!

We've spent a fortune this week, starting with a car. I didn't think the two seater soft-top would really work.

This pushchair plus carry cot that clips on.

Maxi-cosi cabriofix car seat, it also clips on to the pushchair chassis.

Basic white clothes from John Lewis - they are on £7 for 7 bodysuits

New mattress for the crib that DH slept in as a baby plus sheets & blankets.

And lots lots more......

We are also converting our garage starting next month so that we can still have a spare room/study as well as a nursery.

I hope LO is grateful for all this spending Wink

Hi Autumnberry & welcome - what shopping have you done for baby so far?

April - the Recaro set we've got does just click into the Isofix base, is it a different one for the Techno?

autumnberry · 30/12/2010 20:52

Hello! Recently bought a Maxi cosi Pebble form John Lewis for £108. Usual price is £150, so was pleased to get it for less (red colour only). ALso bought the Family fix base. COmpletely baffled by prams. Buying stuff seems a bit overwhelming so am taking it one step at a time with the most essential stuff first.

BeetleBaby · 30/12/2010 21:11

Hello everyone, hope you've all had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to the new year (ok so new year is usually a bit of a damp squib but at least it means our babies will be closer to arriving!).

We took the opportunity to do lots of baby related shopping in the sales. A visit to the Mamas and Papas factory shop proved very fruitful.

Pushchair: M&P Sola (in green) for £130.
Moses basket & stand: Mamu from M&P (again cheap in the factory shop)

(Still need the carry cot for the pushchair but none of the branches we tried had it in stock.)

Cotbed: Ikea Leksvik as it matches the other furniture we have in baby's room. I'm very pleased given the price, it seems nice and sturdy and we easily get a new mattress should one be needed. (Had my Mum with us and she was imparting wisdom such as 'One explosive poo and that would be ruined...')

Also started getting some basics like multipacks of vests and babygrows from Asda (no Asda near us and I don't want to spend loads on the basics which may only last a couple of weeks).

Still need a car seat but this isn't crucial as we don't have a car, so apart from the trip home from the hospital it will mostly be used by the grandparents!

Bottles etc: hopefully I'm going to breast feed but my Mum recommended the Dr Browns ones as they're very good for colicy babies so I may get one or two and a microwave steriliser just in case.

It's quite exciting buying things, I'm having to stop myself going a bit mad Grin

AprilMeadow · 30/12/2010 21:45

JKS which base is that then? I'm pretty certain that the maclaren and the recaro are basically the same seat..

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 31/12/2010 07:55

Which baby monitors are people getting? I'm torn between the angelcare with sensor mat and a bt 150.

Shopping proper:

So far I've got Avent bottles, sterilisers and a box of Hipp organic even though I'm hoping to BF (got lansinoh, nipple shields and a nursing cushion currently in use as a pg pillow so might need a better one!)

2 packs Nature disposables

A dozen Terry squares, pins and pail

Muslins

14 short sleeved bodies, 1 long sleeved babygro, 1 little cardi (it's hot so don't need much in the way of clothes)

Natya ring sling and a wrap

Today we're going crib and carseat shopping (getting the BebeConfort Creatis fix)

Next week I'm ordering my pram (babyjogger city mini plus carrycot), bouncy chair (ridiculously expensive baby Bjorne one that flatpacks) and a whole host of other stuff! Will be post my list as I do but it involves v lightweight gro-bags, swaddling cloths and giant muslins. I've probably said this before but if anyone has slightly specific requirements or is baffled and doesn't know what to get then BabyList based in Fulham are fabulous.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 31/12/2010 09:08

Welcome to the thread AutumnBerry Smile

We've got the BT baby monitor. I have no idea what model it is but it's 5yo now. We got it because it has a two way radio on it and because it plays music. We have never played the music as it's awful, it sounds like someone is sitting there playing (badly) their Casio keyboard. It wouldn't soothe anyone to sleep Grin

We've got the Maxi Cosi car seat as it fits with our travel system and we've got the iso-fix base for the car. As I am a lazy slattern the fixed base was a must as I loathe faffing around with the whole seatbelt malarky - expecially when it is pissing down.

autumnberry · 31/12/2010 09:46

Hello ILikeToMoveItMoveIt I'm hoping the Maxi Cosi and base will help me avoid 'seatbelt malarky' too.
You ladies are very organised. We have ordered a gorgeous cotbed (Boori Newport) for delivery in April and have just received moses basket (John Lewis) and sheepskins (Celtic). Apart from that, just have a few babygros, two blankets and lots of muslins (also JL).
Would be interested in hearing any opinions on slings.

lucielooo · 31/12/2010 10:25

Welcome AutumnBerry! :)

you are all so organised! I am definitely going to start the shopping this week.. It's a bit awkward as there's nowhere to put it at the moment until we move the bedrooms around. DP's two sons are not very happy about the move as they're losing a play(station) room so I think I am procrastinating as all the not-being-happy just makes me feel guilty about the baby. Oh dear :(

Anyway! on the plus DP is off looking at a car this morning so fingers crossed it's a good one and we'll have new wheels soon.. Wooohoo!

Is anyone getting a bedside crib? I thought this might be quite handy as our bed is quite small and so not too keen on having baby actually in with us. I can't seem to find too many of them about - is this because they're a bit pointless? Or has anyone had one and is it actually easier than just having the baby in a moses basket by the bed?

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 31/12/2010 10:43

I am, lucie. I think it's much safer than cosleeping and less lifting so easier on the back. Shopwiki have a good selection.

Looked at Babybay which is lovely but can't ship it, a cosatto close to me, the Bednest which looked a bit flimsy, a German brand called pinolino and the armsreach.

I just can't decide whether to get a crib that's 90cm or a cot that's 120cm.

AliBellandthe40jingles · 31/12/2010 10:51

We had the Amby nest next to our bed when DS was little, and he moved into his cot in his own room at about 6 months.
We co-slept sometimes when he wouldn't settle, it really is so easy when you are BFing. We have a king bed though so there is plenty of room.

LisMcA · 31/12/2010 10:52

Hi Autumnberry! I found this website really helpful in deciding what sling to get. Ended up ordering one of these www.freedomslings.co.uk/userimages/procart10.htm

I'm off work til after new year now, but work just phoned to ask for my MATB1 form. I'd handed it in 2 weeks ago. They say they dont have it Angry I am not a happy bunny!

Petalouda · 31/12/2010 11:32

Morning All & welcome AuntumnBerry

Well, the iphone told me I'm 7 months today. 7 MONTHS! That's massive.

Got to ring up about the GTT again today - putting it off while I eat yummy things.

Shopping wise, I think we've got most things now:
Pram (Quinny Buzz - it's Awesome! with carry cot and cabriofix car seat),
Crib (which I, my bro & sis, our Auntie and her 2 boys have all used! It'll just about wedge into our room!),
Cot (mothercare cot bed, 2nd hand from a friend),
Old chest of drawers with some non-slip stuff on top to make a changing table.
Beautiful little mobile from Ikea,

Yesterday we hit mothercare hard and got:
Electric breast pump (tommee tippee), Electric steriliser (tt), Blankets & sheets, And a bunch of the most amazing animal print sleep suits I've ever seen! (in full rainbow colours too!)

We've got a multi pack of vests too, but are going to hold back on any more clothes for now, we're hoping to get my nephew's hand-me-downs.

So, we still need a monitor, top&tail bowl and probably some more bedding. Oh, and nappies (hoping to get a 2nd hand bundle of reusables from ebay - as well as some biodegradable disposables).

I think we've cracked the bulk of it!

JustKeepSnowing · 31/12/2010 12:39

April - i'm wondering if the recaro seat that works with the xlr buggy is different to the recaro seat we already have?
We have the Profi Plus (i think) and it's Isofix with a base that stays in the car, you just click it in. If you have to have a slightly different recaro seat for the buggy that doesn't use a base i won't change.
(will hold out for the recaro zen buggy though Grin)

I am kind of thinking that grandparents will ask what we want for the new baby and as we have everything i may be cheeky and ask for money towards the Zen.
Was holding out that i might still get the HIP grant but MW confirmed that i miss out, just. Would have been a handy £190.

Happy New Years Eve all :)

Petalouda · 31/12/2010 12:52

We're not holding out much hope of baby gifts - my family are all baby'd out after my Nephew (they're so over it, it's quite sad really), and DH's family couldn't care less, it seems (despite it being their first grandchild).

Ho hum, we live far away anyway so he'll be all ours!

LisMcA · 31/12/2010 14:16

JKS are you still due 17th April? I'm due 16th and qualify. You have to have started your 25th week by today. I got to 24 weeks on Christmas day. My midwife confirmed I qualify.

beckie90 · 31/12/2010 14:37

im due the 17th, and my midwifes given me the form which i sent off the otherday, so should find out soon enough, but ive read loadsa places that with a due dat of 21st and before you qualify apparantly if you were 24+1 by today or more you qualify, id double check if i were you cause i think alot a midwifes are getting confused thinking u actually have to be 25 weeks, mine told me the same at 1st

JustKeepSnowing · 31/12/2010 15:10

Well my MW was going on being 25+0 by tomorrow, I'm 24+6 tomorrow!!

There does seem to be some debate around the wording of '25th week', whether that means 25+0 or 24+1 but from everything else i've read it's 25+0 so i'll be interested to hear Beckie if you get it.

beckie90 · 31/12/2010 15:15

the form i got says into your 25th week on 1 of the pages but i just got a feeling ill not get it lol

LisMcA · 31/12/2010 15:24

Direct Gov website. I just wish they would say if your EDD is XXX you qualify, however this is the government. They'll be hoping that it confuses enough of us to not bother claiming.

beckie90 · 31/12/2010 16:08

i know i emailed them and said im due 17 4 11 so what is the last date you qualify, all i got back was something about been in your 25th week. and i was like well im still confused Confused

LisMcA · 31/12/2010 16:49

Grrrrr! makes me grumpy! But I get like that a lot just now! All we can do is apply.

JKS ask you midwife to just give you the form, tell her about this thread and how others have been given the form, if we don't qualify then we don't qualify!

The website clearly says "to have reached your 25th week od pregnancy" if you are 24+ then you are in the 25th week.

autumnberry · 31/12/2010 19:23

Thanks for the welcome everyone. LisMcA, beckie90, JKS: I am due 19/4/11. might I qualify too? I agree, it's all seems a bit confusing-on-purpose Angry.

Happy New Year everyone!

autumnberry · 31/12/2010 19:25

P.S. LisMcA thanks for the sling links. WIll have a good look.

JustKeepSnowing · 31/12/2010 19:52

I'm pretty sure that 16th is the cut off EDD, i think that the man whoever worded the website '25th week' didn't realise how we women would read that to mean 24+1.
