Time for a new thread.

Hope the title will encourage the "reluctant" babes into the world.

Good luck to all who are due now/overdue

OOh and if anyone is as uncertain about induction as I am I started a thread on child birth asking what may or may not be daft questions and have received some reassurance. However as I can't do links you will have to go browsing to find it.

Redhelen · 17/09/2005 21:23

Kiwifruit

Sounds awful. Take care all, night night xxx

jessysmummy · 17/09/2005 21:39

Many CONGRATULATIONS to Kiwikate . Glad all the induction hard work worked. I'm all for it but have just mentioned it to DH - not so keen! Flippin' 'eck - I carry his baby for 9 months and then ask him to do a couple of little things and you'd think I was asking him to have the baby!
Have been told off today by 2 friends for texting them when I didn't have any news to tell them.
Sorry to hear about your appalling treatment Kiwifruit (didn't know blood pressure could get that high!) and STM - hope you have better experiences with the births.
Anyway, no inkling of anything happening here so will love you and leave you and off myself to bed (alone as DH can't be bother to do his manly duty - after all "It'll be alright on the Night's" on TV and he's already had to turn it up as apparently I'm typing too loudly!!).
Hope we have some news from Katts in the morning - Good luck!

Cabe · 17/09/2005 23:44

Kiwifruit - how alarming to be left without care for so long and so sorry they're thinking of induction so early... no birthing pool ... hope things unfold well for you after tests on monday and you can delay things

Nikkinoo... aren't there just lovely things for little girls and a choice of pretty names too - we had three names lined up before discovering bubs not of female persuasion, now we're still heads together searching for the right name!
oh yes, I'd hate an induction, really really hoping to have him at home, my little nest! want DD present so she can welcome her little brother into the world... my sister's acting as doula too being totally in tune with me and a birthing veteran!!!
Contractions very slow tonight, quite glad as need a break from them! Tummy's gone numb from being so TIGHT for such a long time....
Walk with DP quite magical and he ended up cooking too .... Ahhh

Night night all - hope everyone sleeps well - thanks for link advice for inductions Mummyhill

Redhelen · 18/09/2005 02:43

Cramps bad - going to hospital - watch this space!

PiccadillyCircus · 18/09/2005 04:00

Hope aomething is happening for you Redhelen.

Could tell I was disturbing DH with my tossings and turnings so have come downstairs for a while. Suppose 4am probably isn't the most positive time in the world but am getting the feeling this baby is never going to arrive. And it's only 2 days late now.

Cabe · 18/09/2005 07:02

Fingers crossed for you Redhelen hope this is it!
I've been diddled out of a lie-in by a wasp invading the bedroom! Angry buzzy mean thingy it was... don't need that to come and sting me!

mummyhill · 18/09/2005 08:24

Fingers crossed for you redhelen.

Well off to the warehouse this morning with mum to get some stuff for playgroup, even though I won't be going to playgroup now till after baby arrives.

Visiting the inlaws this afternoon.

Will pop in and see how you are all doing when I get home.

KiwiKate · 18/09/2005 09:42

No chance to read your posts. Just wanted to say that Grace is doing well. She is feeding constantly! apparently this is normal on the second and third day. It is new for me as my ds didn't feed well at all.

Am going to go and do another feed now as I really want bf to go well.

Good luck to all those who are 'imminent'. All I can say is that it is worth the wait and the hassel of being pregnant.

Also, waterbirth was amazing. Much more relaxing than on dry land, and I felt much more in control. Also much easier to move into whatever position the body wanted to go into at any time.

Good luck all. Am thinking of you.

KF, I can't believe what a dreadful time you've had! Try and relax as much as you can - plenty of warm baths with lavender oil. I have to say with all the horror stories I've heard, Kingston seems to be the perfect hospital (so far.....)
I have no desire to have this baby at the moment as my cold is truly awful - I have now pulled a muscle in my abdomen from coughing, just to add to my moans! Going into labour like this is the last thing I need.
Appt with consultant tomorrow - am really in 2 minds about having a sweep - it might just be a way to avoid induction..

LadyLazarus · 18/09/2005 11:34

KF - so sorry to hear about your hospital nightmare There really seems to be a massive difference between the care in different places. Most unfair. Hope you're managing to de-stress now you're back at home.

RedHelen - fingers crossed this is it!!

Have had a quite stressful couple of days...been very teary and 'I can't do this', which is normal I suppose! Elise is not breastfeeding v.well (none at all in the last 24hrs), but have now worked out with midwife why (flat nipples...sending hubby out for some 'gadgets' in a min so hopefully I will be able to resume it later). Have been doing top-up feeds, so baby is much happier now...only woke up twice overnight

CONGRATS to ych and KiwiKate

KiwiKate · 18/09/2005 11:45

Thanks for all your good wishes everyone. It is amazing the amount of support we get on this thread.

Am sending you lots of happy birthing vibes!

Take care

LadyL - try not to beat yourself up about breastfeeding - no one ever tells you how difficult it can be! Good Luck with the gadgets, but if you have to resort to bottles it's really not the end of the world - at least you tried! Keep smiling

nikkinoo · 18/09/2005 15:21

LadyL

Breasfeeding hurts more than giving birth. It is underestimated just how difficult (and painful) it is.

Cabe · 18/09/2005 15:46

good luck with the gadgets LadyL... it can be so painful to begin with try to massage the breasts too to avoid mastitis as the milk comes in and hand expressing a little will help keep the flow going whilst Elise gets the hang of feeding...
Oooh it's all reminding me of what I'm in for again!

Think baby will still be here at christmas!!!

Kiwifruit · 18/09/2005 16:02

Hi All - just spoke to my doula, and am feeling a bit better about the threat of induction later this week. Unfortunately it probably means that I will have to have an epidural from 3cm, as it will help keep my blood pressure down (so no pool or bath ), but on the up side, if I have 'failure to progress' and end up with a c-section, at least the epidural is already sorted, so don't have to have a general anaesthetic, which is a good thing...

Was having a bit of a worry this morning as the baby wasn't moving, but just ate a load of chocolate and watched a weepy movie, and was rewarded with a lot of movement, so that's good!

Go back to the assessment unit tomorrow - hopefully urine will be clear, as they found a trace of protein in it yesterday, although the midwife didn't seem too concerned...

DH has just got back from Oxford St, where he was dispatched to buy breast pump and bottle steriliser, and has come back with both, plus other presents, so had better go and investigate what he's been buying...

jessysmummy · 18/09/2005 16:51

No News from Katts today - hopefully she's busy getting to know her new baby!
Redhelen - hope all goes ok for you and you too have a new babe in arms by now.
LadyL - breastfeeding - yes, very painful and difficult to start with - DD had terrible problems latching on as my boobs were too full but she had better luck once I had expressed a bit. Hope the gadgets work as it is a really lovely experience. BUT if they don't, don't beat yourself up about it. At least you've tried.
Take care all x

beatie · 18/09/2005 16:56

Kiwifruit - last time I had my urine tested it had a trace of protein in it and my midwife was not concerned. I didn't have any high bp or swelling though. Hopefully if all you have tomorrow is a trace of protein, your midwife will continue not to worry either.

I'm still here by the way

Kiwikate Thanks for the report on the waterbirth. I think I'll be quite upset to end up induced and miss out on that experience. It would be nice if they'll at least let me into the bath to labour a bit though if I do end up being induced. I suppose it depends how they kick the induction off. Is it you who had SPD this pregnancy? Has that disappeared now with Grace's arrival?

I have it mildly - although only self-diagnosed since my midwife didn't seem to have any knowledge of it.

DH, DD and I had a lovely outing today. We went to buy her a wooden table and chairs and then called into a country park for a very s-l-o-w woody walk and a picnic. If someone had told me months ago that I'd be hiking through a forest at 9 days overdue I'd have thought they were mad. I wasn't the only heavily pregnant woman doing so though!

Of course, I am going to suffer big time with leg pain tonight but I'll have a bath. I was very careful and did not take large strides, so hopefully I have minimsed the aftermath.

I thought/hoped/pleaded that such a walk would get things going but I have nothing to report so far. It was nice to have a good day with what will definitely be our last outing as a threesome. I should definitely have a baby in my arms by this time next week.

beatie · 18/09/2005 17:16

andif are you having your membranes swept tomowrrow?

RedZuleika · 18/09/2005 17:28

I went for a country walk today too! I'm so pleased with myself! I'm going to be in agony later with my pelvis - and I probably won't sleep very well tonight because of the pain of turning over (positive outlook, my left buttock...) - but I thought it might do something to encourage peanut on its way. Knackered now and about to have a bath to try and stave off the worst of the problems.

Bizarrely, some woman started shouting at us for not 'scooping the poop' after our dog, calling us all manner of names... We were on a bridleway, for god's sake: we were walking around great steaming piles of horse manure. Presumably she's not so worried about that because she can put it on her garden. We always take bags with us when we're in more urban areas - but apart from the fact that there's no legal requirement to do so, why would you scoop on farmland and the suchlike?? (When there are far bigger pats around...) And why buy a house next to a bridleway if you can't cope with a bit of excrement?? She kept chickens too, which minged to high heaven.

Kiwifruit: sorry to hear about your hospital stay. Pretty gobsmacked with your BP though.

milward · 18/09/2005 20:53

now 39 weeks & waiting - just want little one to be born. WIll have mums at school saying how big I am, how do I cope being so big having to look after my 3 kids & shouldn't I ask for an induction... ahhhhhh - know they mean well but just hate it. At least I'm prepared. My swollen legs & ankles have gone down today - hurrah!!
best wishes to all xxx

mummyhill · 18/09/2005 21:10

Beatie - Thanks for the advice on the other thread.

LadyL - Good luck with gadgets let us know how you get on but don't beat yourself up if elsie ends up being bottle fed. I know how frustrating it can be as I couldn't get DD to latch on due to inverted nipples. I am determined to try again with peanut but won't be beating myself up if it fails. Try contacting la leche league, breastfeeding association, NCT or posting on the breast/bottle feeding section here. I have posted an got some advice in advance and loads of support.

Hope Redhelen is ok.

Good luck to everyone else still hanging round and to those not yet due.

andif · 18/09/2005 21:31

Beatie - off to consultant tomorrow afternoon and they may offer me a membrane sweep (did with ds2 at this stage) but presumably if cervix is still as it was on Sat will not be poss.
Have had a stinking cold all weekend - really don't want to have baby while in this state - sure body has enough to do fighting it off and has put baby on hold accordingly (poss same as you with your tooth problem..?) As Ds1 said, knowing my luck it will come tonight while I'm still coughing and spluttering.....

Cabe · 18/09/2005 21:52

Evening everyone

Nikkinoo, it's your due date today, any signs of babynoo arriving on time...?
Hope all have a comfortable night.. especially after all this walking everyone's been up to.

RZ, some people are just so anal about dog poo! quite good for the comedy factor I should imagine
have to admit to not picking up every 'doo' when walking on open ground too... I'd be carrying the stuff for miles! Always thought it would be a good attack deterrent though!!!
Hope Redhelen and Katts have their little ones by now...

Best Wishes All.

Redhelen · 18/09/2005 22:08

Hi,This is Helens Husband posting.
Helen had a baby girl today at 1.55pm, Rachel Emily, 8lb 1oz.
She was having a great labour, but stopped progressing at 9cm dilated, and due to previous C-section ran out of time they would let her go on for. So unfortunately another C-section followed.
Mother and baby both fine and doing well now.
