The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

Oh sorry that you've not been feeling good Delia. I'm glad that you've found a way to sleep more comfortably though and you had a nice day yesterday! Long may it continue!

angels1 · 18/10/2010 10:51

Morning Ladies,

Delia so glad you are feeling a bit better. I have 3/4 pillows to prop me up in bed and find it much comfier to sleep on my back half sitting up than on my side (and helps the heartburn too). Am starting to run out of pillows though as sometimes stick on between my legs to help dead leg.

Glad trojan won her jeans :) I've got quite a comfy pair from peacocks which were only £16. I'm also very glad I invested in a maternity coat as the weather looks set to be freeeeeezing this week. I was a little chilly in bed for the first time last night (but not cold enough to put the heating on Wink .

Hoping ledkr is getting on OK at work Hmm.

I've got a reflexology appointment in a min - bliss Grin

americanexpat · 18/10/2010 11:15

Happy belated birthdays to ledkr and tadjennyp!

Another hairy bump here. DH has kindly not mentioned it but I did feel a bit embarrassed when the midwife measured me last week. Can't be bothered to do anything about it though.

Delia - so glad you're feeling better and getting some sleep. I sleep quite well on our sofa but refuse to move there full-time on principle!

Deliaskis · 18/10/2010 11:33

angels1 sorry if you've already said, but where did you get the maternity coat from? I was trying to resist, but if we have another cold winter I'm going to freeze!

americanexpat yes I had been having some fairly long snoozes on the sofa to catch up, and Friday night ended up down there at 3.30am as I thought a change of 'scene' might help, and it did, so I thought, aha, I can work with this! Didn't want to move there full time, would have felt too sorry for myself!

We got a cot yesterday, handed down from neighbours whose little boy has now outgrown it. Was a weird moment, as most of the other things we have (from big sis) are either still at my Mum's or just things that go in cupboards until they're needed. The cost is right there, big and undeniable, and it's hard not to look in it and try and picture our baby sleeping in it (or probably yelling in it!).

D

angels1 · 18/10/2010 12:17

delia we've got a travel cot hand me down and thought we'd set it up over the week end (just for fun - we have very exciting lives Wink ). Couldn't believe how big it was - I guess a regular cot must be the same size. All taken down and packed away now.

I got my maternity coat from next. I got this one:
www.next.co.uk/shopping/women/maternity/26/3
I did buy a nice red one from new look but when it arrived it didn't quite fit right so got this one instead. Both the new look and next one arn't massive warm wooly winter type coats, but should see me through with a big jumper underneath. I've also spotted a rather lovely one online on jojo mama bebe (I think it was plum). I coveted that one but went for the cheaper next option.

Deliaskis · 18/10/2010 12:22

oooh nice, I might invest!

Trojan1970 · 18/10/2010 13:02

On the subject of bargains TK Maxx had some lovely changing bags in the Fareham branch at the weekend. Can't remember who it was on here that was asking about them, but I was sorely tempted. However, I am trying to stick to my resolve of not over-buying for this baby without making him a complete hand-me-down boy!

zerominuszero · 18/10/2010 13:30

Hello everyone. angels that is a lovely coat and not too expensive, is there any chance it might still just about fit even if you weren't pregnant? It seems a shame to only wear it for one year. I'm wearing my Mum's old coat which isn't specifically mat but just happens to have only a couple of buttons at the top so it opens up nicely for my bump...

... my bump which I found out a couple of hours ago is a daughter!!! Yes, me and DH are very, very excited about this. I could barely tell what I was looking at half the time in the scan as it was all blurry but I did see the head, nose, hands and even little fingers. It was so lovely. We thought it was funny that the sonographer used euphamisms when she was trying to find the sex, "well I can't see any boys' bits but I can see girls' bits" - it was a bit like being in primary school, I thought they would use the real words in such a medicalised context.

But anyway the main thing is that she is healthy, growing in the right way and has a heart and organs and everything :) :) :)

Lots of happiness in the Zerominuszero part of the world right now!!!

angels1 · 18/10/2010 14:04

congrats zero - great news :) As for my coat, I think if I were to wear it when not pregnant that I would look very fat in it (well, fatter than average non pregnant), but I'm not sure how much that would be in my head, IYKWIM. The new look one I brought and returned from not quite fitting my odd bod right I think looked a little less obviously maternity (plus it's even cheaper Grin ) when on. Here it is:
www.newlook.com/shop/womens/maternity/double-breasted-swingcoat_197374267

zerominuszero · 18/10/2010 14:25

Yep that newlook one is good too, the only mat thing I've got from newlook so far is a T Shirt that was £1 and says "England world cup winners 2010" on it. DH made me get it because he loves a bargain and we thought it could be good to give birth in as it looked quite long, but when I got it home I realised it's just a normal length T Shirt and doesn't cover my bum at all. But it's good to sleep in.

My sister works in New Look and so gets a 50% discount so every Christmas every present she gives is from there. But I quite like it because she's got good taste in clothes.

angels1 · 18/10/2010 14:28

Anyone have any knowledge on how useful/relaxing a rocking chair is for use with feeding/soothing a baby? Or if you've got one/planning to get one.

We've found a second hand Dutailier glider chair and stool for sale locally for what I think sounds a good price and are going to take a look at the week end. MIL tells us it's something that will be invaluable to us (bear in mind this is the same MIL that tells us we simply MUST have a nappy bin Hmm ) and I do quite like to idea of relaxing on a rocking chair with a baby. (starts dreaming with rose tinted specs of feeding a very well behaved baby whilst rocking in a relaxing chair...)

SlaughteredSheep · 18/10/2010 14:29

Aww, congrats Zero! That's so lovely Smile

Angels have you decided whether to go for a 4d scan or are you going to wait for a surprise?

I think I might have to invest in a maternity coat I was hoping that the coat I have would last but it's already tight and I struggle to zip it. I'll probably try to get one from New Look as I have vouchers from my Birthday but I was hoping to use them for something else!

SlaughteredSheep · 18/10/2010 14:33

Those glider chairs look amazing and so comfy, we never had one though - just stuck a dining chair in the nursery, although I used to bring DD downstairs in the night for feeds even though they tell you not to as it wakes them up, blah blah.

Deliaskis · 18/10/2010 14:35

angels We're planning to get a feeding chair with the rocking type thing. Mainly because there is currently no chair at all available in our house, so we would have to buy one anyway, thus, might as well buy one more or less designed for the purpose.

Having said that, have no idea if it prove a good investment or not!

D

angels1 · 18/10/2010 14:54

slaughtered we have a scan booked for 30th. We ended up finding a place where you get a gender scan with (apparently) dvd of the scan AND 3d piccies all for £60. Seems a bit too good to be true for such a good price, so we shall see, but tbh so long as they can tell me what the sex is (and everything is still looking healthy) I'll be happy :)

Thanks slaughtered and delia on the rocking chair feedback - if anyone else has any experience of using them then let me know. We don't need one but we're moving to a house over double the size of our shoe box house in a couple of months so have space for it, and if it is as comfy as it looks/helps make life any more relaxing or easier then hopefully it will be £70 well spent.

wigglesrock · 18/10/2010 15:08

slaughtered glad your dd is feeling better, I had terrible sore ears as a child and even now I think a sore ear is second only to labour for me pain wise!!! My dd is a lot better too, finally got temperature down and she looks a lot better, is eating etc so looks like she is on the mend. I phoned her school earlier and they said that scarlet fever is through the school at the minute but it looks like she only has a bad cold.

Sorry you were feeling so pooey D, my sickness came back with a vengenance yesterday and am still feeling a bit ropey. Glad you're sleeping a bit better.

Angels Congrats on mastering the travel cot, I remember trying to get dd1s up and down, the air was blue Blush. I would also go with the chair, I don't have one but sil loved hers. I also bring my baby downstairs to feed, I remember with dds I was addicted to BBC News24. I was actually really clued up re world events for about 3 months Grin

SlaughteredSheep · 18/10/2010 16:27

Glad your DD is feeling better too Wiggles. I used to suffer with my ears when I was little too. I wear two hearing aids so prone to infections because there's something in them all the time. It's not nice, I felt so sorry for her.

Angels, £70 for that chair sounds like a bargain! I've seen them for around £500, although not sure what make. The scan deal sounds good value too! Smile

hornedtoadjennyp · 18/10/2010 16:54

Congratulations on your scan zero! I also plan on getting a feeding chair this time round. I also used to bring dd downstairs to feed her in the night so that dh could carry on sleeping and mainly so I could stay awake. I watched a lot of the Commonwealth Games live (in Melbourne) and saw that kangaroo leap across the cycling circuit! Hope you continue to feel better delia and your sickness goes again wiggles.

SlaughteredSheep · 18/10/2010 17:42

HornedToad, DD was a summer baby so I used to watch Big Brother Live Blush.

zerominuszero · 18/10/2010 17:54

slaughteredsheep that is a brave confession to make... and I speak as a (reformed) BB fan (loved the first five series but lost interest after that).

I've just remembered something. I am evidence that the "hairy mum = testosterone-y boy" theory might not be right, as my tummy is so very hairy (I even made DH pluck it before the scan [hblush]) and I'm not having a boy. So there you go.

PS: Love the Halloween emoticons!

SlaughteredSheep · 18/10/2010 18:03

I don't know what I'm going to watch this time! I'll have to record corrie and watch it later Wink. Or V+ stuff!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 18/10/2010 18:56

Congratulations zero, fab news! Smile, although OUCH at having your bump plucked... Shock

Sorry you haven't been feeling good wiggles, I get headaches (nothing compared to what you're going through) quite easily now if I'm tired so trying to drink more water. Hope you get to take it easy so that it settles down again.

I was thinking about getting some box sets in the Jan sales for night feeding. Do you think we'll all become nocturnal for a while?

Has anyone bought one of those pregnancy pillows and, if so, are they any good? I'm finding sleeping through the night difficult now, I wake myself up when turning over and what I wouldn't give to sleep on my stomach...

linz17xxx · 18/10/2010 19:25

Hi everyone. I had a rocking chair when I had dd and it was great for night feeds and just generally when putting baby to sleep. I would definitely recommend one! X

HighlandlassinLondonshire · 18/10/2010 19:32

I can't keep up with this thread...it moves so fast.

I was wondering (please advise) when is the correct age to put babies in these sleeping bags?

Also do you think 55 quid is too much money to spend on a changing bag. I've seen a really nice one that DH can carry without feeling like a wally...I wasn't going to buy it until mini has arrived.

Thanks xxxx [hsmile]

knittakid · 18/10/2010 19:51

Congrats zero! but if you could just pluck your tummy it is not hairy, not in the way mine is, it would need a go first with a size 0 attachment to the clippers and then shaving...Sad

Just need to moan, got a cold! arghhhh!

I love rocking chairs, but don't think we can fit one in our little house unfortunately, sounds like a good buy angels.

hope I can stay awake until spooks...
