Just took DS to Great Granny's in neighbours sledge. It was great except that I kept losing my rubber crampon thingys and having to trudge back to get them.

I raised a chuckle when I got into the sledge on the way home and came careering down the road - using Gran's walking stick as a paddle.

Lucky for me I am next to the supermarket so not feeling too stuck.

And DH is at work - so can't make a fuss about me going out.

If you're worried about the baby coming early, just make sure you know someone with a 4x4 and ask if they will be up for taking you to the hospital!

sarrita · 02/12/2010 12:13

BTW welcome back mumslady!

hackneyzoo · 02/12/2010 12:25

Hello ladies, I hope you don't mind me joining, I posted on the thread ages ago in the summer, but never managed to keep up! But as its getting closer would love to join in the baby/ pregnancy chat.

I am 34 +4 with DC3 and am counting down the days til the start of maternity leave/end of school term.

Hope everyone is coping ok with the weather. The school I work at is closed today so will use this as an opportunity to read the thread. Smile

MacMomo · 02/12/2010 17:42

mummychicken when you started talking about hiring a carpet shampooer I thought you were answering the 'ladygarden' question at first! Grin

Seeing the midwife for the first time in 10 weeks tomorrow. As usual, have just the 15 mins to have all the measurements and chat and then make the entire birth plan...

Snow not to bad here, really feel for you with the real deal. Must be a huge obstacle to getting anything done.

WalkTheDog · 02/12/2010 19:52

Baby not into pelvis yet so safe meantime from an early arrival - need to get it facing inwards before it engages though. Will be quite happy for it to come 17-23 Dec, will be 37wks and with OH's 2 week break and one week mat leave then he would be home for the first 3 wks, but I am sure baby will wait until 42 wks!!!!

Glad others are worried about their gardens - TMI - but mine seems to be growing much better than usual, but for some reason my legs are staying pretty clear.

Lets hope the snow vanishes in time for all our big days.

deedee321 · 02/12/2010 20:49

Hello everyone, hope things are going ok. MacMomo, can't believe you've had to wait 10 weeks since your last appt, and Hannah sounds like receptionist was very annoying! Glad you got your appt.
I've been feeling really rough for the last day or so, baby has been kicking and churning really frantically with no let-up for hours, plus return of nausea (eh? I'm through that, am not going back there!!) Think baby must have switched position and got a fright!!
Apparently the garages around here have run out of petrol and our warning light is already on...so hold on little baby, don't come for a while yet!
Hope you are managing the gd ok mummychicken.

SunOverStars · 03/12/2010 00:42

Hi folks!!!!

I was under the previous names 'Stardown' and 'Starberries' before further up the thread. Are we the first January baby????

DP and I in a civil partnership - two women - wanted to clear up any confusion

32 weeks plus 5 today. Very dramatic birth story - DP started having twinges at 8am, and some fluid leakage, progressively pains got worse until about 3-4mins apart by 8.30. Couldn't get a taxi, ambulance, or bus due to so much SNOW down in Surrey/Kent! Labour ward advised walking to nearby GP's office.

Got to GP at 8.50, contractions every 2 mins. By 9.15 waters had broken & had quite a bit of blood, ambulance on the way, DP in lots of pain. 9.30 ambulance arrived, we were scared she'd deliver in the GP's office! DP had no trousers on as water broke inside them so had to get on stretcher, covered by blanket, and whisked out of GP's office into snow-covered street with lots of onlookers!! Very dramatic. Got to hospital by 9.55, rushed into labour ward, team of 5 (midwife, head midwife, consultant obstetrician, 2 SCBU doctors) in labour ward. Checked DP who was fully dilated and baby's head nearly crowning!!

Pushed him out in 5 pushes at 10.05, 2 hours and 5 minutes from start to finish!!

Elias Hugo was 4 lb 14 oz (2.2 kgs) and had to have some oxygen - he is on CPAP in SCBU at the minute, they did a chest x-ray and bloodwork which came back normal. He was a VERY good weight for his gestation - probably down to DP's diabetes, but soooo happy he's bigger than normal. Since DP had absolutely NO pain relief, just a few stitches, she was ready to go home 2 hours after birth! Labour ward full and no beds empty so we were just now discharged after 7 hours.

Going back in the morning to see him and will update then!

LadyBuzz · 03/12/2010 08:28

stars congratulations to you both. What a good weight and what a scary scary morning for you both.

sarrita · 03/12/2010 08:58

Wow! That is quite an arrival.

Congratulations to you three. Well done to you all for the safe arrival of Elias.

I think you are the first to deliver on this thread!

Should be starts some stats again?

mamasunshine · 03/12/2010 09:02

OMG stars - what a shock for you both Shock Huge congratulations to you both Grin What a great birth weight!!! And I love his name, we have a Hugo Smile Sending lots of hugs as I know how stressful it is to have a baby is SCBU, but hopefully he'll be home soon Smile How exciting!!!

mummychicken · 03/12/2010 09:27

Stars soooo much nicer to have a nice little birth story than " labour took 28 hours, the pain" etc. Congratulations Smile

PS The tight Scot that I am alos hopes to deliver this side of the New Year so LO can have the £250 child trust fund Grin

OP posts:
deedee321 · 03/12/2010 10:58

Wow!! Congratulations!! The first of our babies, so exciting. Sounds like she did really well, must have been overwhelming going through labour at that pace! Welcome to the world Elias :)

WalkTheDog · 03/12/2010 12:10

dramatic story star but good ending. Hope he's not in SCBU too long.

mummychicken I thought that the trust fund had already reduced to about £100 or so, but that they went by EDD and not actually birth date, so if you due in Dec will get it, otherwise you wont even if born before 31st.

deedee better get a siphon for petrol and remove it from all those people who panic buy petrol when they hear it is running low and don't use more that a thimble full a week. Sorry your nausea is back, mine is too and it came on when baby moved to head down position and started really moving/kicking.

oh are you coping with the injections mummychicken?

Hannah1890 · 03/12/2010 12:31

Wow stars congratulations!! very dramatic birth story but glad all turned out ok and made it to the hospital. Amazingly quick labour! gives me hope haha.

Very exciting to have the first baby born, not long now for the rest of us!

mummychicken · 03/12/2010 13:38

walkthedog you are correct- they have reduced the amount (£50)but kids born in 2010 are eligible

The injections are shit.

OP posts:
Jobi1 · 03/12/2010 17:23

Wow congrats! How exciting! Our first baba Grin. Very dramatic but great outcome, how lovely.

All ok here, not very snowy but still petrified of slipping over. Saying that its snowing right now but hopefully will stop soon. Made it to physio today but too late for exercises as too big so just got a support which feels quite nice. Only 26 more days to go. Scary!

Hope everyone is doing ok & coping with injections etc. Big hugs all round x x

luckykitty · 03/12/2010 19:13

Does anyone else feel like they have gone from a relatively managable size to the size of a large building in a matter of days?!
I feel huge. In fact I AM huge and definately wasnt a couple of days ago.

Whats going on?! im 35+3, is my baby going to Hulk out of my insides?!

I cant reach my feet, or the cats and stuff on the floor. I am slightly afraid.

And is it normal for said baby to be thrashing about like mad? I think she may be a boxer...
And is it normal for it to feel like someones cut the ends of my nipples off?! Pain!!!! Hmm

ps:can you tell i haven't done this before?! Grin

eightisseventoomany · 03/12/2010 20:25

well.....(no laughing) ....Im now resorting to wearing hubbys boxers !!!! at least they're Calvins Grin and pinching his tracksuit bottoms !
cant get anything round this bump...all my briefs cut into my previous c-sec scar....and all my maternity trousers/jeans fall down unless have them tight....which hurts...
im a fashion disaster.....

also bought one of those litter pickers that council street cleaners use...as cant pick up off the floor (not the amount of toys my children leave anyways!!)
now just need some slaves & cooks and all is good Grin

sarrita · 03/12/2010 20:31

Hmm know what you mean about getting to the floor. If I bend over, the baby squashes my stomach and I feel like I am going to barf.

So DS is doing all the picking up - as I simply can't. Definitely an advantage having a 3 3/4 yr old. Love the litter picker mumslady.

Told my neighbour I was not digging the car out since I only had 6 weeks left, and she didn't know I was pregnant! Still fitting my clothes, but I feel like a haggis that's been cooked for hours and will burst open if you poke me with something sharp!

luckykitty · 03/12/2010 20:52

hahahaha sarrita you are spot on with the haggis discription!

Have spent all day in my pjs :) had a shower and put them back on, does that count?! Blush

My maternity jeans are ok round the bump but too tight on my hips, someone gave me some dungarees which seemed like a lovely idea however i have since found that it just doesn't work in any way whatsoever, plus I did look super-retro and it would take me forever to pee...

Hope everyone is well x

wondersnuffle · 03/12/2010 22:01

Wow, congratulations star. Sounds like you and your DP did a fantastic job and so glad Elias is doing well. Grin

I have been trying to persuade DP to buy himself a new coat that I can borrow for the next month. I can't face paying the amount a decent maternity coat would cost when I am unlikely to wear it again (didn't need one with DS as it wasn't that cold during the huge stage).

deedee321 · 03/12/2010 22:43

sarrita, that is amazing someone could not tell you are preg at this point!! I am like an overfilled balloon, am very envious...
mumslady that is hilarious about litterpicker, I want one!!
Hope nausea is easing off walkthedog, mine is not as bad today - find it is really related to tiredness, do you?

beijingaling · 04/12/2010 02:43

Congratulations star!

I'm really hoping I make it to Jan to have DC but I guess they come when they're ready! DH away for next 3 weeks (first in shanghai and second in Aus and third in hong kong- not exactly like he'll just be round the corner!) so I'm keeping my legs crossed.

Anyone else noticed a general decrease in movement now? I'm 35+3 and still feeling all the movement I should but certainly it's less. just stretches and less kicks.

Still haven't packed my bags but thanks to the poster for the list! Did a big mothercsre Shop yesterday and finally feel like I have everything. Bloody mother care Beijing though... They've ripped the price off each price tag so for every item you have to go and say "how much is this? And this? And this one?" brave move enraging a pregnant hormonal woman I say!

cotswolder · 04/12/2010 16:54

Huge congratulations stars and hope you are all doing well.

Love the litterpicker idea - big smile on face.

At 34.3 we did the big shop at mothercare today. Think we may have been their worst nightmare we were price matching everything with am Iphone. Got a fair amount of money off however!
Anyone else find it really scary and unsettling walking out of the shop with all that stuff including car seat? DH has just put it all upstairs in Nursery as i can't quite cope with it yet.

Sarrita - it can happen. Friend of DH's didn't realise until the other day that I was - generally saw me wrapped up in coat.

went into town today to try and get xmas shopping today and now completly knackered!

travispickles · 04/12/2010 17:38

Wow - quite a birth story Star! Hope it all goes well for you in SCU and Elias is out soon.

Glad to hear other tales of feeling massive/achy/fed up. It's not just me then!

I went to the docs yesterday about my back, she felt my tummy and said she couldn't feel the head so maybe the bay is breech?? But she couldn't be sure... My midwife didn't write the presentation as she was unsure which makes me wonder...?? I am 34 weeks so would like to know!

Anyone else not sure?
