mummychicken, at least you will know what to expect labour-wise, and if you were that speedy last time, should hopefully be superspeedy this time!! Just need to focus on getting through the next month. Am I right in thinking gestational diabetes almost always disappears immediately after delivery?
I have developed a proper waddle over the last week or so. Really undignified walk!! Can't take in that in just a few weeks life is going to change totally once again!

MacMomo · 30/11/2010 19:57

mummychicken big hug and hats off to you for being so practical about dealing with it.

mummychicken · 30/11/2010 21:50

deedee In the majority of cases it goes, but you have a higher risk of developing diabetes in your 50's.

Not waddling yet but have to sit in a rather unlady like straight back and knees akimbo manner

mummychicken · 30/11/2010 21:55

Thanks for all the hugs - feeling a bit better mentally today.

By the way - does anyone know the diffrence between an obstetrician and a gynacologist??

Is there a specialist man/willy doctor?

(there is no punch line - serious question)

OP posts:
LadyBuzz · 01/12/2010 08:29

mummychicken don't quote me but an Obstetrician specialises in maternity and all things baby related and a Gynaecologist deals with anything else related to that area.
I have no idea if there is a special man doctor but I will try and find out for you as I have nothing else to do and cowbag is off sick!
I work in a hospital!

splodge77 · 01/12/2010 09:06

hope everyone is taking care of yourselves and your bumps in the snow! i haven't dared venture outside yet as we live on quite a steep hill and the pavement hasn't been cleared/gritted. Happy to be hibernating at home with the cat tho - there are some definite benefits to working at home Smile

sarrita · 01/12/2010 11:30

34 + 5 days

mummychicken of course there is nothing you did to give yourself diabetes! My friend who got gestational diabetes was very slim - so there you go. Lots of advances and research into diabetes too, so if it is something you have later on, the treatment is getting better and better.

Lots of snow here. My DH went all cave man on Sunday and wouldn't let me go and get a sledge for DS. But he didn't got and get it - lasy arse that he is. Now we have feet of snow and no bloody sledge!

Have a friend with a 4x4 who took someone to hospital at 2:45am who's midwife wouldn't do her homebirth. At least I know who to call if I go into early labour.

Willy doctors - Smile that made me laugh! I guess any doctors who specialise with prostates are willy doctors.

Have tonnes of work to do and am being rubbish about getting it done. Lucky for me we live next to the supermarket and DS's childminder!

Haven't packed bag, but we did go to IKEA on Saturday and buy a chest of drawers that doubles as a change table with a shelf so that we can put it together and be all ready for the birth. We also bought crampons for our shoes and really warm mittens for DS - so all's good. Order a brilliant all in one snow suit for DS from the H&M sale 12.99 - brilliant!

Pacita · 01/12/2010 11:45

Hello all,

33+1 and just came out of my midwife appointment, which was not the greatest: There is both sugar and blood in my urine, so she's sent it to the lab for testing. I am not too worried about the sugar, as I think it is due to the large amounts of chocolate scoffed last night, but what does blood mean?

Also, it turns out that my baby is back in breech position (hence the horrid pressure on lungs and fiery heartburn). I seem to remember some of you clever ladies were talking about a website with tips to help babies turn. Could you post the URL please?

I am really terrified about a breech birth, and I do NOT fancy a cesarean, as I've got a two year old toddler to look after, and can't really afford to be out of commission for weeks :(

travispickles · 01/12/2010 13:07

Pacita - is this it?

spinningbabies.com/

Pacita · 01/12/2010 13:11

Ah, thank you travispickles, that's the one! x

Jobi1 · 01/12/2010 13:28

I think the male equivalent would be a urologist perhaps? And yep, obs is maternity & gynae is what it suggests. hope you're doing ok mummychicken xx
Am staying in today, petrified of falling over!

WalkTheDog · 01/12/2010 14:03

pacita I had MW today, also had some sugar in urine - I had a chocolate bar last night before bed (first one I have had in ages, that'll teach me!) and she reckons that was the cause. So possible yours too. Since my GTT was fine then she wasn't too worried but if still sugar next week (without treats the night before) then will redo GTT.

Baby is now head down (wahey!) but is still not fully with baby's back forward - have to keep doing my tail wagging exercise and plenty forward leaning positions.

Baby measuring 1 1/2 wks bigger, baby's length probably explains why I am getting short of breath when sitting. Due to baby's position and size going to get a scan next week.

sarrita I did wonder what would be happening to those going into labour and all the snow. We've had no snow, just really cold.

deedee waddling at times here too.

LadyBuzz · 01/12/2010 14:40

mummychicken jobi1 is correct its a urologist - can you tell I am now bored at work Grin they don't get a special willy doctors cause us ladies are so much more complicated inside!

pacita I tested positive for blood and protein last week, mine too was sent for testing and I have heard nothing so I'm guessing it can mean nothing - I'm sure it was present when I was in hosp too but came to nothing!

I have perfected my snow waddle now - I really need some snow boots, My shoes are all too slippy or stupidly cold!

WalkTheDog · 01/12/2010 17:02

oh forgot to say stenogirl I've been getting period pains for about 2hours at a time (mostly through the night) for about a week. MW said either I have an irritate uterus (could be since baby turned lenghtwise) or is body getting ready for labour and might not go to term

MacMomo · 01/12/2010 17:53

Am reading the Michel Odent book and wishing I had booked a home birth. I can't, as I am not going to be at home but in a house we're renting for 10 days. They do make it sound easy! Quiet, candles, peacefulness and sleeping through the early stages! The 20 year olds at work are utterly terrified of labour, they almost faint at the suggestion.

I have just found out that my OBGYN appointment to finalise birth plan (they offered me elective CS but I want to start labour and see how it goes first) isn't until 22 December - when I will be 37+5. Are they taking the p? I'm due on 8 January!

Walkthedog - maybe you'll be first!

MacMomo · 01/12/2010 18:13

Oh, I had another question - one of those TMI/embarrassing ones. What is the ladygarden etiquette? I haven't thought of a way of dealing with it to be honest and I don't really want even DH to see it as it is Shock. I would prefer a neat lawn (or no lawn) but how does one achieve that? I'm not up for waxing these days. Sorry if a silly question.

mummychicken · 01/12/2010 19:01

MacMamo not a silly question at all - I had exactly the same thoughts with DS and had no mumsnet to ask!!

I think years ago they actually used to shave you Shock.

I think they have seen it all - so come as you are (I try at least to shave the bits that might stick out of knickers - hard to do when you can't see, but as I swim I don't want the world to see little spiders legs sticking out my swimming costume!)

Just rememeber that of a midwife says "Oh what a hairy one" she is probably talking about the baby's head sticking out Grin

Also keep DH away from "business end" because once he has seen what is going on down there he might not want to go there again!!!

Thnaks for the urologist answer (prefer willy doctor). I do have to wonder about men's motivation to become a gynecologist/obstetrition

OP posts:
LadyBuzz · 01/12/2010 19:37

I got waxed just before going in to have DS2 but that was because they DRY shaved me to do the section Shock I think the regrowth was worse then the scar Grin

I also asked last time to have the catheter put in after the

LadyBuzz · 01/12/2010 19:40

oops I will continue Grin

After the spinal block so I couldn't feel it and the midwife said it was fine but it was less dinified as there were more people in the room.
They lift your gown right up to your boobs so I couldn't quite see the logic in that one!

stenogirl · 01/12/2010 19:52

Week 36+3

sorry to hear about your GD mummychicken. You won't have done anything wrong. It could have been any of us. Xmas Sad to hear you've been crying and it hurts.

Jobi1 I can't believe you haven't seen your midwife in 8 weeks. I've see mine every two weeks for the last two months.

Pacita I hope you're feeling ok what with your blood and urine tests and the breech baby. Sounds like you've got a lot on your plate. Here's hoping your baby is a spinner :}

Ooooh maybe you'll be the first to pop WalkTheDog I haven't had any more pains but baby is moving a lot. I thought they were supposed to get quieter! I can make out the back, bum and legs. Going off to Google irritate uterus Grin

Laughing my head off at mummychicken's comments about lady gardens and the labour ward !!!!!!!!!! MacMomo - I just Immac'd my lady garden. I normally get a brazilian wax but felt weird going to a salon when pregnant. so I just slapped Immac on using my compact mirror to have a look. Not sure it's supposed to be used 'down there' but it didn't sting...

Pacita · 01/12/2010 22:14

Thanks for your comments, ladies, here is hoping she's a spinner too! Thing is, I'm so exhausted the last thing I feel like doing is jiggling my hips while in all fours!

The worst is that because the head is upwards, it severely affects my lung capacity and my ability to digest. My appetite is completely gone, and if I eat more than a morsel the heartburn is phenomenal due to the pressure.

Please baby girl, take a dive down...

eightisseventoomany · 01/12/2010 23:53

agghhh, I lost this thread for a while....mumsnet wont save my "what Im on" pages anymore !! and couldnt remember what thread was called (doh).
anyways.....

glad all babies still firmly tucked in tummys ...still (always expect someone has given birth in my absence)....so hang on in there stenogirl and walkthedog .... :)
wouldnt be good timing in this weather...keep thinking...with all this heavy backache im having....we'd be well & truly stuffed if went into labour...as no chance of getting to hospital...and doubt many midwives would brave these elements Hmm

now starting to hedge my bets on which of us will be reaching the finish line :) :)

mummychicken · 02/12/2010 07:24

Pacita - I hired a carpet shampooer and spent a week on hands and knees doing my carpets! Really hipe your glucose test turn out to be nothing. Also - indigestion - bicarbonate of soda (I know I keep harping on a bout it but it works)

As mumsylady puts it - once we've crossed the finish line - wher do we go?

OP posts:
Hannah1890 · 02/12/2010 09:35

Hi all, been absent for a while as had my Mum over from Cyprus since the weekend, has been a massive help getting ready for baby and setting up the flat. Now all ready for LO know how to use pram, hospital bags packed etc. Suddenly feels like could be any day really, especially now a few peopl on here could potentially not be long. Wishing you all the best stenogirl and walkthedog

Really sorry to hear about GD Mummychicken amazed how quickly they caught it though, taking tests on a Sunday and what not hope youre doing ok with the new routine of finger pricking etc.

Pacita hope you're feeling better soon and that baby gets in a better position soon.

Been having weekly checks after bit of a scare with high BP, was down last week and was v relieved, but had appt. on Monday with research MW BP back up and protein in wee again. They advised me to see GP or midwife end of this week but unable to get appt till Monday, when told receptionist what it was for she was v reluctant to even give me an appt on Monday wanted me to see nurse. But midwives at the hospital told me to see GP or midwife, got very emotional on phone, dont think nurses any less competent but just wanted to do what I was told by midwife want to avoid anything going wrong and definately want to feel Ive done everything in my power to try amd prevent anything happening.

Sorry for rant...again!

Not much snow here but hoping everyones being careful in icy conditions!!

eightisseventoomany · 02/12/2010 10:12

how is everyone managing to get out???
just wondering
.......as we are in over 15 inches of snow !! and unable to get very far at all !

We are surrounded by hills....no chance getting our cars out...and being 35 weeks, with 6 children..(2 of whom are 14 months old) so unable to wheel a pram..& I can barely carry myself in this amount of snow...so cant put them each in a sling either....

feeling little trapped & slightly anxious Xmas Hmm
