hermyaI have 4 packs on Mat pads. NOt sure if thats too much/ not enough. I'd rather have too many though!
I've been doing online shopping but at the moment dh is hardly home to unpack/put away etc and can't plan ahead when he will be so its easier if he does it when he is around. We also get a lot from the market/greengrocers/butchers in town.
When do you finish work? That might help the headaches.

Tyson86 · 13/09/2010 19:39

Hermya Sorry to hear you are also suffering with migraines, hope you get somewhere with your doc's appointment.

silversky Big Hello Grin

Abfab Hic-cups are great, glad you have experienced them :)

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 13/09/2010 19:51

Hi everyone :)

Ooooh two spies on one thread, who'd have thought it!

Nymph, I'm so sorry you feel so pants, it sounds horrendous :(

Dilly- clever LO getting head down, good news!

Tyson-thinking of you :)

Silversky- long time, no post! Glad things are progressing well.

Abfab- yey for hiccups, aren't they cute!

I'm not going for a homebirth either as in a rented flat, and I know from last time I will shout "fuuuuuuuk" very loudly at some point, and would like to look my elderly neighbours in the eye afterwards.

Bionic- a baby shower sounds fun! Never had one, but any pampering is to be encouraged.

I never did the olympics because I think i have been very lucky really, plus there was no category for huge Vulval varicose veins Blush

Had a good day, whoever suggested a pillow under both legs rather than between - thankyou- I slept for an age last night for the first time in ages :) I've been cooking and sorting photos and playing with ds. He was born at this stage, so I'm obsessively interpreting every tweak and twinge!!

Hermya321 · 13/09/2010 19:54

Nymph I finish in two and a half weeks, I'm wondering if I should go a little bit earlier though. I'm going to see how it goes this week and play it by ear.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 13/09/2010 19:58

Hermya- don't push yourself if you are getting worse, you need the rest!

Oooooo just seen brand new grand designs series starting! With xfactor, strictly and grand designs, plus the whole in the thick of it series to watch my breast feeding trash tv is sorted!

nymphadora · 13/09/2010 20:19

hermya go early if the migraines carry on. Better to be rested at home before birth/sleepless nights

jessebelle · 13/09/2010 20:35

Oh dear

Took Virgin nearly 4 weeks to reconnect us & been so all over the place I've had to use the past week or so to try catch up on all of your posts!

Am now 36+3 and finally on maternity leave. DD started school today (and it all went well as far as I can fathom!) and for the first time I felt like I could actually make a start on all the admin/house stuff that I need to get done before D-Day!

Placenta was scanned and has now apparently moved out of the way. Which was good news although I'd got my head around an elective and was actually starting to look forward to getting a 'date'!

However, was pretty much denied access to the Birth Centre due to previous CS so was in floods of tears coming home from hospital and obstetrician visit (the world of obstetricians really is so remote from the world of midwives - was my first reminder since pregnancy started). So for now the plan is VBAC but on labour ward and continuous monitoring - and some kind of 6-hour limit before they interfere with you anyway.

But who knows!

Argh. Gotta go, dinner is done & will burn to a crisp otherwise.

jb x

jessebelle · 13/09/2010 20:44

rescued dinner...

seashells me too, Blush, it's been my main pregnancy symptom & not exactly one I can tell my mates in RL about. Absolutely horrendous and they've been really getting me down.

Had a baby shower for my first baby and it was gorgeous. Had it in place of a birthday party (as it was my birthday month before baby was due) - and two good friends organised it all - it was soooooo lovely. Gaw, makes me all nostalgic for the first time pregnancy - it's sooooo different second time around!

re: Homebirth - I would love to have the guts to have done it first time around but I, too, at the time lived in a flat and just didn't fancy being 'heard' by upstairs or outside. It felt like it'd be easier to be able to let go in the 'anonymous' surroundings of the hospital... But quite understand now why it can work so much better - for one thing, having the midwife there at home with you must be something quite different to being assigned one at hospital.

OK, really going to eat now...

SilverSky · 13/09/2010 20:52

Mat pads - I have 2 packs from Boots just normal and a pack with wings and aloe vera from Mothercare. I figure anymore than that Him Indoors can be given an errand or two to run.

Had blood test today with results at next mw appt so hopefully will all be normal.

Am really thirsty today! Trouble is when I am not at work I don't drink as much as I should. Dreading work tomorrow as have soooo much to do! Gah!!

Can't believe I am nearly on ML. Seemed like so far off and now it's just round the corner which means the baby isn't that far off either! Scary but so very exciting!!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 13/09/2010 21:00

Jessebelle- mw laughed when I told her (I think I was using humour as a coping mechanism) and my mum was horrified, so not told anyone else!!! Scared stiff of them being damaged during the birth :( and for 'down there' never looking normal again, although mw says they do settle Hmm

Good news placenta has moved!

AbFabT · 13/09/2010 22:17

nymph, well done on the lasagne stock-up! Oh to have as much space in our freezer! I just don't! We've only got a small two-shelf section on top of the fridge.

Hermya, be strong and say no! Four hours driving sounds painful! Please be kind to yourself and your baby. #

If I hang the mobile from the ceiling though, the hammock still obscures the baby's view of it.

Tyson and SeaShells, thanks, yes - was really keen to experience the baby hiccups! Was VERY cute! :)

SeaShells, Vulval Varicose Veins??? Yikes! Never heard of such a thing! Owww.

Welcome back, jessebelle. Hope you get the birth you want.

I am feeling rather hard done by with my lack of baby shower. Humph! Mentioned it to DH, and he offered to organise it for me - bless his heart. But I said not to bother, it's meant to be a girls' thing, isn't it.

Hi everyone!

Haven't got time to post much today. Will try to find time tomorrow and to join in the olympics!

Just wanted to say 35+4 and counting...

floozietoozie · 13/09/2010 23:14

Yaayyyy Moonstorm, well done. Keep counting!

Hi Silversky, good to hear all well.

Fingon, I'm another frustrated medic at heart. I changed my mind in my final year at school and did English instead, but for about the last 10 years have really wondered if I made a mistake. I even thought about doing the grad entry a few years ago even though I'm ancient but there's no way with DS and now this one too. I just live it vicariously through my much younger cousin who's just starting her FY2. Hearing her tales of the incredibly long hours also made me think maybe it was the right decision!

Did anyone see Cherry Has a Baby on BBC3 tonight? I was welling up soooo many times. There was an amazing home water birth which has really really made me want to be at home all over again (the neighbour who shares the wall on that side is quite elderly and her telly is usually loudish so I think she's a little hard of hearing in the event of swearing/screaming/moaning. But I'm also a bit worried about the potential complications given my low platelet count so maybe the MLU is the best option. I'm going to see it tomorrow morning anyway, so I'll have a better idea. I like hospitals too, but I'm worried, despite my many, many visits back since, that I will have a bit of a reaction to being where DS was born and taken away from me, however necessary it was at the time.

Had a busy weekend. The wedding I went to started off a bit hectically because the girl who was supposed to be taking me (whose baby was due 10 days later) rang less than two hours before she was picking me up to say she'd been up most of the night with diarrhoea and didn't feel up to going. Totally fair enough, but it was 11.20 by this stage and the wedding was at 4pm, two hours at least away! I frantically texted the people I knew who were going to see if anyone was still here, but they'd all left. Checked the trains and to get a train to the nearest station would have meant cutting it very very fine before the ceremony. Luckily one of my friends said if I could get the train to a different station further away but easier for me to get to luckily they could pick me up and take me the rest of the way. I had the fastest wash and hairdry ever, stuffed my wedding gear into my hospital bag (not taking any chances!) and legged it to the train station. Had to change on the train! In the event, the journey was great and we had lots of time to get the the venue, and the wedding was brilliant. I managed to get a lift home with other guests so I could stay till nearly the end and not get the train back early.

Was really tired today but fortunately DS was in creche so I was able for once to have a long nap in the afternoon. I also went to a local baby shop and saw the moses basket I was thinking of ordering online, and liked it, so I've ordered that now (about a third cheaper than buying from that shop). One more thing off the list. The pram hunt still goes on. I may be forced to travel about 120 miles away to a pram stockist to be able to physically see all the prams I'm considering as they seem to be the only place to have all the ones I need to try out! Ridiculous.

Hermya re mat pads, I've got three packs to be going on with and am taking two into hospital with me in the event of complications and a longer than foreseen stay. Be prepared to bleed for about six weeks. You won't necessarily need mat pads specifically for that long, but I did find I needed them for quite a portion of that time (that may be just me, because I generally have heavy periods and am clearly a bit of a bleeder Grin).

Tyson, scary about the dizziness but I'm so pleased everything is fine with the placenta and that you are enjoying pregnancy again. Despite all the down sides, I'm really trying to enjoy being pregnant during these last (I hope) six and a half weeks, because I'm unlikely to be doing this again, realistically. I just love, love, love feeling the baby move inside me, and I'm appreciating it so much now because it ended so abruptly and too soon last time.

floozietoozie · 13/09/2010 23:19

Jessebelle, I forgot to say sorry about them saying you can't go to MLU. That's rubbish - your DD must be four surely if she's at school and I thought once you'd had a two-year gap they were ok about VBACs. If if makes you feel more like fighting it, on my last ante-natal thread one of the mums was having her sixth child - two CSs, then an VBAC, not sure if at home or hospital, but then two home births. She had a third HB with the sixth. And she was 40 by this stage.

Hermya321 · 14/09/2010 07:38

I think in hindsight I should have said no to yesterday, overall work have been really good to me but in others they've been a bit lax. Others who have been pregnant in my line of work have been moved into the so called back offices but I haven't been. So in some ways, it's been a bit confussing as I'm never too sure if I can or can't do the things that I actually do.

Thanks for the tips about the maternity pads, I may have to take DH to boots in the next few weeks and show him where they are in case I need to send him out on his lonesome for supplies.

Also I noticed a lot of you were talking about bed mats, is this a homebirth thing or something that you're doing just in case your waters break in bed?

Abfab I haven't had a baby shower either (really wanted one actually), so instead I arranged to see people and do nice things with them. Like prancing round a historical house giggling like a loon with my friend and having a fancy pants cream tea at Bettys. This week I'm going for a curry with my work mates and I'm sssoooo looking forward to it.

Nymph Yeah I will do, my DH said the same thing to me as well. The Glee DVD comes out soon, I'm really excited as I'll be able to watch new things whilst I'm off on maternity leave.

Seashells I love Grand Designs!! My DH doesn't understand it, but I love having a nosy into other peoples houses. Poor you with the unfortunate placement of your varicose veins.

Jessebelle Welcome back!

Also with the pregnancy olympics, does 7 loo trips in one night count.

nymphadora · 14/09/2010 08:24

Looks like lots of naps for people today! I slept badly too.

Hermya- think the bed mats are for all the leaking post birth.

Whoever said about the last time? It's v strange isn't it thinking I might not feel baby wriggling inside again

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 14/09/2010 08:28

Just going shopping and before I forget - get dextrose energy tablets for hosp bag and put a bin bag or sheet in the car ready for the hosp dash!!

Hermya- I love grand designs, dh and I day dream of building our own house!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 14/09/2010 08:43

seashells I'll show you mine if you show me yours. Ha ha! Not too funny is it though? I haven't looked but I know they're there!

hermya am taking a pack of 48 big towels and a pack of slimline. Account for 6 weeks of bleeding, 1 or 2 of which will be a 8 pad a day change rate. Lovely what we've got to look forward to. Also, I had terrible afterpains with ds2 and 3 (agony with ds3) so those heat pads for period pain are good, or one of those lavender bags that you put in the microwave to heat.

Grand Designs! Yay! Hope my Internet connection stays healthy so I stream from 4od. Already got my x factor and strictly schedules worked in to my routine. Talking about entertainment, if anyone wants a laugh and has a sick sense of humour, watch Kick Ass. Only if you like stuff like pulp fiction though, otherwise it will offend.

Had a relatively good sleep last night. Off to shower now.

Tyson86 · 14/09/2010 09:31

Been packing ds's bag for playgroup, its his first day today and he is so excited, i have got to sit with him for 3 hours in a room with loads of other kids, im dreading it :)

Hermya Im being naughty and taking super absorbant night time sanitary pads, i did this last time and was fine. Also when my waters broke last time, they broke slowly all day so have bought some tena pads which was the only thing that worked last time. HTH

sam12 · 14/09/2010 09:32

Yeah I love grand designs too!
9 more days at work and counting. I think working up till 38 weeks was a bit ambitious. Especially when most of my evenings and weekends are spent frantically decorating so that we can move into the new house before baby is born!
I keep reading advice to put snacks into my hospital bag but after wandering around asda I still don't know what to take. Any ideas? What are you taking?

jessebelle · 14/09/2010 09:54

Hi everybody.

I'm supposed to be doing my tax return stuff so it's all done before baby comes - but feel shattered due to a rubbish night. DD had a nightmare in the middle of the night & is waking up (from the excitement of these first new days at school probably) before 6am - feel like napping all day!

floozie thanks for that - I may try pointing that out to them - it's 4.5 years since that CS and surely the scar has mended pretty strongly by now. The thing is they make out that a 0.3 per cent chance of rupture is some huge risk they can't take - that's 99.7 chance that it'll be okay isn't it? Which is apparently close to a normal chance of a rupture in a normal pregnancy. There's lots of literature to argue that continous monitoring etc can confuse and make things worse - but I'm one of those that I find it really hard to put my views across in that obstetrician/patient environment.

Very impressed with everybody who's so organised & 'ready' for their new arrivals! I'm so behind on baby equipment & making place ready for it etc. Haven't packed a hospital bag yet although managed to buy some newborn nappies & maternity pads at boots the other day. Confused what to do with baby until my mother arrives in mid-October with the family heirloom cot (or it's turning into - it's the cot me, my sisters and brothers all slept in when we were babies). Do I buy a moses basket for 2-3 weeks (doesn't seem worth it). Have been scouring Freecycle which seemed awash with them a while back but nothing now. HMMMM! Saw one on John Lewis for £30 - do you have to buy the stand as well? Can you get new ones cheaper?

jessebelle · 14/09/2010 10:04

Oh yes watched Cherry Has a Baby too. Moments of it were a bit crass but, yes, had my teary moments too. The waterbirth was incredible - and she was just totally in the 'zone' - but there's just no way I'd have so many people around me - didn't she have her mum and her dad there too or something? (plus camera crew etc!!!) But my friend had a home waterbirth recently and said it was amazing and it was my main birth plan (albeit in hospital) first time around (but wasn't allowed in as my waters had broken) and this time, due to the continous monitoring, I'll be out of the running again - seems crazy they can't let me go into the water for its calming effects for a bit & then check the heartbeat normally as long as I'm labouring 'normally' and nothing seems the matter. Interesting that Cherry ended up with almost the same thing I had - she was induced, ended up with epidural, then CS. Only difference was mine was a crash CS (that's when they put you under general anaesthetic).

RooBear · 14/09/2010 10:14

morning all, had my last antenatal class last night and found another couple from my town so we swapped numbers yeah Smile!!

Also had my MW appt and like you dilly baby is being good at the mo and is head down.

wow ILGH I didn't realise we'd need that many pads, I best get more!

so.... I have finshed the nursery and packed babys hospital bag. We have nothing but ben and jerrys in the freezer so can start so stock. I have to still pack my bag and wash babys clothes cloths etc... what else??

sam12 i'm thinking fruit gums, chocolate and something savoury, maybe a innocent smoothie and a bottle of water.

Is anyone considering a pool birth?

nymphadora · 14/09/2010 10:17

Need to pack bag & sort out wills. Am stuck in front of Jeremy Kyle instead. Sat down whilst pain went & lethargy hitBlush

FingonTheValiant · 14/09/2010 10:41

Oh yikes Nymph that's such a good point, we don't even have wills. How the heck do I get that sorted out? And we haven't sorted life insurance; I'd better make an appointment at the bank asap.

Also, I'm very jealous of all the lasagne Envy but with my current appetite there's no way it would survive until the birth Blush

Roo so glad you've found a friend :o And great that the baby is head down, they're so clever!

Another one who hadn't banked on needing that many pads. I've got some gorgeous x-long, heavy flow washable san pro on order, but only 6, so I think I'd better get some packs to supplement. Also, great advice re tena pads Tyson - oh the shame of having to put them through the checkout though Blush

floozie I'd keep being a frustrated medic if I were you. I'm on the grad entry course and really regret doing it. It's been an absolute killer. I took a year out last year to get some perspective, and I'm now on my second year out from it. I only have two to go, but I'm not sure I can face the FY1 and 2 hell, and then the disaster that is currently specialist training. I'm just trying to decide if i can get up the nerve to tell them I'm not coming back, it'll be rubbish with a little one, and the kiss of death to family life if I do go back.

On the other hand, if you are really keen, my first degree was in Classics (as mentioned above) and I know a few doing it with degrees in English and History etc, so abandoning science young doesn't make it impossible :) It does that all by itself :o

I've ordered some rubbishy films for after the birth, but I think I need a couple of series. Can anyone recommend something that'll be cheap-ish and has a lot of episodes?

Have a great day everyone, I'll be joining most of you for a nap later :)
