Yaayyyy Moonstorm, well done. Keep counting!
Hi Silversky, good to hear all well.
Fingon, I'm another frustrated medic at heart. I changed my mind in my final year at school and did English instead, but for about the last 10 years have really wondered if I made a mistake. I even thought about doing the grad entry a few years ago even though I'm ancient but there's no way with DS and now this one too. I just live it vicariously through my much younger cousin who's just starting her FY2. Hearing her tales of the incredibly long hours also made me think maybe it was the right decision!
Did anyone see Cherry Has a Baby on BBC3 tonight? I was welling up soooo many times. There was an amazing home water birth which has really really made me want to be at home all over again (the neighbour who shares the wall on that side is quite elderly and her telly is usually loudish so I think she's a little hard of hearing in the event of swearing/screaming/moaning. But I'm also a bit worried about the potential complications given my low platelet count so maybe the MLU is the best option. I'm going to see it tomorrow morning anyway, so I'll have a better idea. I like hospitals too, but I'm worried, despite my many, many visits back since, that I will have a bit of a reaction to being where DS was born and taken away from me, however necessary it was at the time.
Had a busy weekend. The wedding I went to started off a bit hectically because the girl who was supposed to be taking me (whose baby was due 10 days later) rang less than two hours before she was picking me up to say she'd been up most of the night with diarrhoea and didn't feel up to going. Totally fair enough, but it was 11.20 by this stage and the wedding was at 4pm, two hours at least away! I frantically texted the people I knew who were going to see if anyone was still here, but they'd all left. Checked the trains and to get a train to the nearest station would have meant cutting it very very fine before the ceremony. Luckily one of my friends said if I could get the train to a different station further away but easier for me to get to luckily they could pick me up and take me the rest of the way. I had the fastest wash and hairdry ever, stuffed my wedding gear into my hospital bag (not taking any chances!) and legged it to the train station. Had to change on the train! In the event, the journey was great and we had lots of time to get the the venue, and the wedding was brilliant. I managed to get a lift home with other guests so I could stay till nearly the end and not get the train back early.
Was really tired today but fortunately DS was in creche so I was able for once to have a long nap in the afternoon. I also went to a local baby shop and saw the moses basket I was thinking of ordering online, and liked it, so I've ordered that now (about a third cheaper than buying from that shop). One more thing off the list. The pram hunt still goes on. I may be forced to travel about 120 miles away to a pram stockist to be able to physically see all the prams I'm considering as they seem to be the only place to have all the ones I need to try out! Ridiculous.
Hermya re mat pads, I've got three packs to be going on with and am taking two into hospital with me in the event of complications and a longer than foreseen stay. Be prepared to bleed for about six weeks. You won't necessarily need mat pads specifically for that long, but I did find I needed them for quite a portion of that time (that may be just me, because I generally have heavy periods and am clearly a bit of a bleeder
).
Tyson, scary about the dizziness but I'm so pleased everything is fine with the placenta and that you are enjoying pregnancy again. Despite all the down sides, I'm really trying to enjoy being pregnant during these last (I hope) six and a half weeks, because I'm unlikely to be doing this again, realistically. I just love, love, love feeling the baby move inside me, and I'm appreciating it so much now because it ended so abruptly and too soon last time.
