OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Congratulations Elasticated. So you squeezed in (or out?!) an August baby?!

Boy or girl? Weight? Come on woman - we need details I hope you find time to post more soon. Congratulations.

pooka · 03/09/2005 22:23

Congratulations Elasticated
Poor you, Beatie. It sounds horrendous.
I'm in an absolute pickle because...had ordered beautiful curtains for dd's new room from John Lewis. cost an arm and a leg. Lovely Jane Churchill fabric, which she helped pick. They arrived today, and I took them round in the box to my mother's house to show them off. Brought them home, couldn't carry them and dd out of the car at the same time, so popped them in our (open) porch while I nipped back for dd. Went into house as dd needed a new nappy. When I went back to get them some absolute B***D had nicked them. They're custom made, specially for dd's windows, in a child's print. What on earth would make someone do something so low? I feel like a complete fool, so stupid. Ended up ringing dh, who is on his way home from the wedding, sobbing. Rang dm to make sure I hadn't left them there (no chance) and she came over to cheer me up, but I can't stop thinking about how mean people can be, and how idiotic it was of me (pregnancy memory loss) to leave them on the porch in their marked JL box while I changed dd's nappy. Talk about dumb.
Out of interest, would anyone know whether this sort of thing would be covered by Barclaycard, since that's what I used to pay for them? DH seemed to think it's unlikely that the household insurance would cover the theft since there's an excess and, well, it was my fault really.
Oh God - it's really all I need right now.
Anyway - rant over.

Boompi · 03/09/2005 22:51

Congrats Zoezebra and Elasticated.
I am trying to reset my date in my head as I dont think I will deliver by EDD(Mon) and know I will be disappointed!

Redhelen · 03/09/2005 23:03

Elasticated - well done on 'babies' birthxx

beatie - really sorry to hear about your tooth pain.

Pooka - think you should be covered on Barclaycard- silly question - would a neibour have taken them in for you? I did something simlar a while ago & thats what had happened. If not its all you need - really sorry.

andif · 04/09/2005 06:10

An early morning post due to sleeplessness again! Oh those days of Sunday morning lie-ins are so far away...
Beatie, poor old you. Think you should stay in bed all day feeling sorry for yourself and make sure everyone else runs around after you. I keep moaning about having a bit of a cold, so can't imagine how miserable you must feel.
Congrats to elasticated - DETAILS please!!
Pooka, sure you will be covered by Barclaycard - how sickening. What sort of world are we bringing these babies into?

KiwiKate · 04/09/2005 09:15

CONGRATS elasticated! Can't wait to hear details.

Pooka - ring Barclaycard and your insurers. One or the other should cover you. It was still theft, and so should be covered, even if you feel it was "your fault". (I once put a hot pot of popcorn down on the carpet to open the door for a visitor - now that was STUPID! Burned a hole in the carpet, and the insurance paid to have the carpet replaced). Just ring and chat to them, it'll mean you can stop worrying.

Beatie sorry to hear of your tooth troubles. I've got a slight toothache and am trying to ignore it. Not sure if I should get it checked out, but am a bit chicken in case I need heaps done to it (already had a root canal on it, and then a temporary dressing, and I think that has chipped). Anyway, after your toothpain, childbirth will probably be a walk in the park.

Ladylazarus, don't dispair. My first baby was three weeks early. Stupidly, I expected my second also to be three weeks early, and now my EDD is in 1wk2days and I'm in a bit of a tizz because I never expected to go on this long, especially as I had a "show" 11 days ago.

LadyLazarus · 04/09/2005 10:01

Morning all! Have hardly had any sleep Was awake at 3am with on and off period-type pains, lay awake for ages waiting for the next one so I could look at the clock (!) but it never came hehe. Very disappointed, as I was ready to jump out of bed ready for action!! Not sure if it's because I put a couple of drops of clary sage oil in my bath last night (highly unlikely methinks), but all is quiet this morning

Big CONGRATULATIONS to elasticated!! Encouraging to see that some babies are born early!

Redhelen · 04/09/2005 10:40

Morning!

Reassurred to read that I wasn't the only one to have a bad nights sleep!! DS going for fun day out with mil & fil so might get back to bed! I still find I can sleep in the day - just not well at night!

Went out for a snack with m&d yersterday afternoon - my dad is very bad this morning with food poisoning - thankfully I'm fine and baby too!

PS Is any one else concerned about a 9/11 or 11/9 birth date - or is it my hormones!!

Take care xxxx

beatie · 04/09/2005 11:20

Redhelen - pleased to hear YOU didn't get food poisoning. I too have just been thinking about the 9/11 birthdate. We mostly say 11th of September here though, so it doesn't have to be a concern. I'm sure one of us is destined to have a baby that day...

Pooka - Wow! Some people are so low. How horrible to think some scumbag opportunist was lurking around you. Are there any parks near you? I wonder if the curtains were abandoned once the theif discovered there was nothing useful for them in the box. It might be worth a scout around your local area. A friend had her car broken into and she had a holdall bags of her clothes stolen. She managed to pcik up the trail and reclaim her disregarded belongings, pants and all!

Was there a receipt in the JL box? Could you ring the store and make sure no-one has tried to return the curtains for store credit? I hope Barclay card pay up for you.

I slept quite well last night. Sorry 1 dose of painkillers kept me going for 8 hours! I visited another emergency dentist today and she has doubled the antibiotic dose and said no wonder I was in pain. She was a lovely dentist - Scandanavian I think. Coincidentally she's usually at the practice where DH and I are set to register in November when they'll take new patients. (We moved recently) She has said to ring next week, when the swelling has gone down, and she'll see me at lunchtime to sort out the tooth once and for all. Isn't that nice?

Apparently swelling makes anaesthetic ineffective - so no wonder I felt butchered by the nasty dentist I saw on Friday.

Still no signs that I am having a baby this week. I keep imagining pink tinges on toilet paper when I wipe. Since I am taking pain killers for my tooth, I'm not even in any discomfort or pain elsewhere, so I feel so far away from the reality of having a baby. I'm going to be shocked when I do go into labour.

I'm pleased I should get to take DD to her first day of her new pre-school on Tuesday.

pooka · 04/09/2005 13:15

Glad your tooth is better Beatie and that you slept well.
Barclaycard stopped the automatic insurance of purchases last year - thought this was the case! Great minds think alike - went for a walk at 7am around the local park and up and down our road, but no luck. Oh well - not much I can do about it. Certainly not in the right frame of mind for labour at the moment - didn't sleep at all well last night and woke very early (dh and dd didn't wake until 9.30am!!!!!)

franch · 04/09/2005 13:43

Congratulations zoezebra & elasticated!!!

Have to go and sleep RIGHT NOW so in brief, not a happy franch today - either waters started breaking or had a hindwater leak at about midnight last night, and we got very excited - spent about 3h organising all our stuff and very nearly started filling the pool, but nothing further happened .... Took about 2h to get through to the birth centre on the phone (agh) - had v sleepless night - midwives came this morning and gave me a speculum examination (NOT nice) - said it was def amniotic fluid that's leaking, but the cervix is still closed - this is exactly what happened with DD and led to my nightmare induction, so my heart is sinking fast. Declined monitoring at DAU and scan - consultant m/w happy with our decision for the time being at least - now trying exercise, pineapple, rasp leaf tea and everything else I can think of to try and get things started before the unthinkable is mentioned. Have had quite a few pains and twinges for over a week now but nothing more .... Am going to try to get hold of an acupuncturist tomorrow too - will do anything to get this thing going. Feeling really pretty depressed at this deja vu situation. DH and I are exhausted and so disappointed (we got so excited last night at the prospect of going into labour 'normally' this time), and just can't deal with poor DD who's being pretty full-on today. I have spent the last 9 months trying to make this pregnancy and birth 100% different to last time, and here we are again. Feels like my body can do pregnancy pretty well but doesn't know how to handle the birth bit.

Sorry, that wasn't as brief as intended. MUST go and rest now while DD naps. Love to you all, hope all is well.

Franch - poor you - I can sympathise with trying to avoid old experiences. Hopefully if you can get some sleep, you might feel more positive. Do you have a 'plan b' if you can't have baby at home? Whatever you are thinking now, it can't be as bad as last time as you are both prepared and have the benefit of hindsight. Acupuncture sounds a good idea, or what about reflexology? I have heard both work a treat with 'natural' induction. Maybe clary sage in the bath tonight (thought I might give it a try, as would be quite 'convenient' to have baby tonight/tomorrow!!!!)
Try to keep smiling!

Redhelen · 04/09/2005 14:29

franch- fingers crossed your labour starts naturally and soon!

Pooka - I'm sorry Barclays can't help & there is no sign of the curtains. Beatie suggested calling the store to see if any one had tried to refund them - might me worth a try if you hadn't already.

Trying to sleep to - but dh seems determined to stop me - if he offers me yet another rasberry leaf tea - I will deck him!!

KiwiKate · 04/09/2005 16:37

for Franch. Remember ZoeZebra had her hindwaters break about a week (I think) before she had little Jasper, and all went well for her. So this is not necessarily the start of a repeat of your past experience. I do know what you mean about the excitement and then the letdown though. I was so excited when I had my "show" and cramps, but am still waiting for action 12 days later!

Well, it is 330am here (been AWAKE!) for an hour after getting off to sleep quite well.

Good birthing vibes to everyone who is due (in the past few or next few days)

Redhelen · 04/09/2005 16:50

KiwiKate - Good luck with the sleep!

Just read today is the hottest September day since 1991 - just our luck!!! - feeling really tearfull in limbo and unhappy!! I'll read a baby mag - that will cheer me up!!

Pretty much finished all the jobs I wanted to do before baby arrived!!!

beatie · 04/09/2005 16:55

Oh Franch - I hope your contractions start up soon and you can have the birth experience you have planned for. Get that babies head bouncing on your cervix. Bounce like you've never bounced before.

Other 'natural' induction techniques I read about recently were putting a hot compress across boobs (instead of nipple tweaking) and also sucking a spherical lolipop, as there is supposedly an accupressure point on the roof of your mouth that helps contractions progress, and a small round lolly will hit the right spot. I have no idea if these work but they don't sound difficult to do so thought I'd share them with you.

LadyLazarus · 04/09/2005 16:56

Franch - I can see how you might get to thinking that this time is going to be the same as last time, but you have to try to stay positive. Just because this one thing has happened the same, it doesn't necessarily mean the whole thing will turn out bad like last time. Put your hypnobirthing CD on, she's full of positive vibes that woman!

I have the horrible 'stabbing' pains of baby pressing down on either my cervix or my pelvis and it's agony . Is very painful indeed and I'm getting fed up with it

mummyhill · 04/09/2005 17:40

Congratulaions elasticated details please cause I am feeling nosey. So far we have heard about lots of little boys wonder how many litlle girls we are going to have? Last time round when I went to my antenantal meet up there was only one boy and seven girls.

milward · 04/09/2005 18:19

message for franch on another thread from spudballoo. Here is the link - can anyone help?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1365&threadid=104287

pooka · 04/09/2005 18:31

Spudbaloo needs Franch's email or other contact details(mobilephone no. for text???).Any helpers???

franch · 04/09/2005 18:34

Thank you milward - and everyone else sending positive vibes. You're right, it doesn't have to be the same as last time - I'm trying to stay positive - will prob be easier when I've had a bit of sleep. Have done lots of walking today, am bouncing as I write, have had pineapple, RL tea, evening primrose oil .... will try the other suggestions here and see if I can get hold of spud's acupuncturist. Due date is tomorrow - not that that's really relevant now.
