Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Daisydot · 04/09/2005 22:15

Redhelen and Beatie, thanks for your comments on Daisy's webiste. Yes, she is such a little angel........ The charity has kept us sane and keeps us going whilst keeping Daisy's memory alive.

I've heard that cranial osteopathy and shiatsu massage can help bring on contractions as well as scubbing the kitchen floor on your hands and knees! Aparently the action of the latter gets the baby in the right position and keeps contractions going (and it's cheaper than the other two options!)

I swear I will look like a raspberry leaf by the end of this pregnancy!

beatie · 05/09/2005 00:42

Is anyone awake?

KiwiKate · 05/09/2005 01:43

Hi Beatie, I am here - but then it is the middle of the day here

You ok?

Redhelen · 05/09/2005 01:59

hello Beatie & Kiwikate

Thunderstorm woke me up - and its mighty hot!

Bet theres babys being born!!! Sadly not mine!

KiwiKate · 05/09/2005 02:12

Hi RH - hope you & Beatie have managed to get some sleep.

MW has just been. Good news! Baby is no longer posterior (all those exercises are paying off). Unfortunately baby is not anterior either! but is lying with its back to my side (slightly more to the front than the back) - so the positioning is moving in the right direction. Am trying to get up the energy to go for a swim (excellent for positioning apparently). I don't fancy the effort of the swim, but the idea of relaxing in the hot tub afterwards really does appeal.

Redhelen · 05/09/2005 02:17

KiwiKate - a swim sounds good - good luck moving baby - right back to bed for me!

Boompi · 05/09/2005 03:32

I am awake. Dont know if this is it but have had a crampy pain on and off since 01h00. Just seems constant now so cant time but not that severe yet. Too bad too sleep though so have taken some paravetamol and will give it another half hour then wake dh. It is my due date today...

Redhelen · 05/09/2005 05:13

Good luck boombi - I hope this is the begining of labour for you. From my (rather limited) expereience early labour is one long crampy pain - until the contractions start. Be thinking of you!

Suppose I'll try to sleep again!! but I'm too hot and ache all over - but not labour ache - just ache!!!

LadyLazarus · 05/09/2005 06:56

Ooh Boompi maybe this is it?!! Good luck, and here's hoping!

All quiet here, have had a couple of crampy pains overnight, nothing major and yet again nothing regular I always thought I was a patient person before all this happened!

pooka · 05/09/2005 07:46

good luck Boompi. Am jealous as have now decided it's "time" - mostly because dh at work this week and I'm really not sure I can face a week of active dd while feeling like a beached whale. Anyone got any thoughts on my going swimming with dd? She's desperate to go, but I'm not sre whether it would be foolish given that I'm now 2 days overdue. Hmmmm. The alternative is a walk to the local shops, perhaps taking in a rain sodden park on the way back.
Very tired still, as seem to need to get up to pee at least 5 times a night. Don't remember this happening last time - wonder if the posterior position of the baby is at the root.

diane77 · 05/09/2005 08:14

hi all

hope everyone is well. Due date been and gone and still no sign, im so tired and uncomfortable, I feel really sorry for my wee neglected 2 year old dd. I have a mw app on wed where they will offer a membrane sweep, can anyone tell me what this involves?

Boompi · 05/09/2005 09:14

Seems like it was a false alarm Stopped sometime after 4am and now just occasional mild twinges.
Hope things are going better for you Franch.

milward · 05/09/2005 09:18

Good luck to all now xxx

I have until the 24/09. Today met a new mum at school today who's also expecting the same date as me. Looking radiant, wearing small size formes cream trousers. I'm huge, red in the face and now have swollen ankles plus fit only xl size outfits. Than goodness isabella oliver clothes are stretchy

milward · 05/09/2005 09:19

Boompi - seems like something is happening - sounds like your little one is getting ready to be born. Take it easy if you can today - could be your last few days of resting for a long time

pooka · 05/09/2005 09:28

Boompi
Diane - I'm having a sweep tomorrow. It's an internal, like when they check how dilated you are, where the midwife uses her finger to sweep the membranes by your cervix. This can bring on labour but is more effective in first time pregancies apparently.

Kiwifruit · 05/09/2005 09:43

Good morning all - seems ages since I posted - have been too lazy to get the laptop out and set up .

Congratulations Zoezebra and Elasticated!!!

Welcome to Irishmum and Nicksptw...

Boompi and Franch - fingers crossed for both of you that you get some action soon!!!

We went to our NCT class on Saturday, and it was really good. The teacher was great - had been a little sceptical about it after some comments made by friends of ours after theirs (very negative views about epidurals...), but the teacher gave a really balanced view about everything, which I really appreciated.

Had a rubbish sleep last night - too hot, and couldn't get comfortable. Have got a really sore neck for some reason, but off to the osteo this afternoon, so hopefully he will be able to sort it out.

KiwiKate - good to hear your baby has moved, think mine has too, but not entirely sure what it's doing now! Guess I will have to wait until I see the midwife next week, and in the meantime will keep doing the exercises...

We have just got Discovery Health and Living on our TV service - have been spending a lot of time on the sofa watching births and crying - think DH is going to start hiding the remote so I can't watch it anymore ...

jessysmummy · 05/09/2005 10:32

CONGRATULATIONS to ZoeZ (Jasper is such a lovely name) and Elasticated who's little bundle seems to have slipped out very quietly 2 WEEKS AGO!!!! Hope both enjoying new bubbas
Glad to hear that all's well with Sarahhal and Thomas - hope DS1 settles down soon. Keeping fingers crossed that my new arrival will not disturb DD too much. Let us know how you get on, Sarah and any tips you have for unsettled siblings.
Welcome to nicksptw! and don't worry Irishmum, think most of us here have kissed the blarney stone at some stage! Talk away!
Milward - sounds like the 24th is a popular due date! Think you'll beat me to it though - absolutely no rumblings here Though I have been having some pain in my right groin that goes right through to my bum. DH gave me a lovely massage there (yes, in my buttock!) last night that really eased it. Fairly sure that it's not any kind of labour thing as I have suffered from sciatica in the past and the pain only comes when I'm tired and only on my right side - where I carry DD. DH was quite keen that I let everyone know about his magic fingers (he's excellent at working knots out of my back) as he was beginning to think that I only ever tell everyone about the bad things...like the time he refused to come and rescue me when my car had a puncture about 2 miles away from home. It was 6.30 am, still dark and I had never changed a wheel in my life. He thought it would be a good learning process for me!!!...oops, there I go again...he's not bad really...cooked me a lovely meal last night.
Pooka - can't believe someone stole your curtains. How nasty. And while your hubby was away too - poor you. Hope you are rewarded with a quick and easy labour now that hubby is back.
Sorry to hear you're in pain Beatie Not what you need right now. And thanks very much for the kind offer to take your EDD but I don't think DS1/DD2 heard you and has no intention of coming out this week!!
STM - wayhay - new man!!! Good luck, he must be quite genuine if he's interested in you at this stage of pregnancy. Hope it works out.
Franch - sorry everything doesn't look like it's running to plan. Every birth is different though so don't assume things will be as bad as last time. Fingers crossed that things progress nicely - definitely sounds like this is IT, though...good luck.
And Good Luck to you too Boompi!

zubb · 05/09/2005 10:42

Congratulations ZoeZ and Elasticated

Franch - hope things progress as you want them to.

Due date looming now (Thursday), but still feel he'll be late. Thats means bigger and potentially quicker which is not good (Ds2 was 8 days late - 9lb9oz and delivered by dh on the bathroom floor!), am hoping for a more controlled birth this time!
Ds1 starts back at pre-school tomorrow so there will be lots of 'not had it yet' comments I'm sure.

beatie · 05/09/2005 10:47

Boompi, Franch, Pooka and Diane77 - sending huge amounts of labour vibes your way. I hope we don't hear from you today. I mean that in the nicest possible way

I got a bit of sleep last night after reading the whole of Mumsnet until the wee hours of the morning! My sweilling is going down but it is still in the most prominent place (gums next to teeth) so no hope of the pain disappearing just yet.

I had a bath with dd this morning. I am trying to saviour all my time with her. A bath is always so healing isn't it. Even though the pain is in my mouth, I still felt better for having had a soak. I've now packed precious DD off to soft play area with DH. I would have liked to have gone but still look too much like the Elephant Woman to want to venture out in public. I'm hoping the swelling will be down enough tomorrow to take DD to her first day at her new pre-school, without scaring the other children.

DH is back at work tomorrow after his, eh hem, 7 weeks holiday! I will be shocked if the baby comes this week. No loss of mucus plug, no bloody show, no BHs but who knows. Hopefully little baby will come conveniently at the weekend so my mum doesn't have to make a midnight dash to our house to look after DD.

LadyLazarus · 05/09/2005 11:01

zubb - does the potentially quicker labour thing apply if first timers go over the date? or just for people who've had previous deliveries?

zubb · 05/09/2005 11:05

Not sure LadyL. I had a quick first labour as well (2 hours) and ds1 was 2 days early and 8lb 15oz. I was told that the reasons for ds2 precipitous (?) labour was that he was late and big, so I think in my case I'm predisposed to fast and furious labours and these are made more likely by the size of babies that I have, and the later they are the bigger.

LadyLazarus · 05/09/2005 11:11

2 hours?! here was me thinking I'll probably have ages to sort myself out and get to the hospital!! hehe

Redhelen · 05/09/2005 11:16

Morning - as 'normal' fell into deep sleep at about 5.30 - ds woke me up at 7. Did manage some more sleep until 10 as dh here until 1pm - so very little sleep and on my own with ds this afternoon/evening. Feeling completely drained. Please come out baby!!

Good luck everyone!!

jessysmummy · 05/09/2005 11:17

Daisydot - just visited the daisygarland website. What a beautiful little girl. You must be so proud that she has touched so many lives and has enabled you to help so many other parents. x

ych · 05/09/2005 11:19

Hi all, welcome nicksptw & irishmum.
I had a night like you Boompi. I'd been bouncing on my ball all night watching telly. Later on it started off as periody crampy pains in tummy and back coming every 10 mins then turned into one long crampy pain, this went on for a few hours. Was starting to get excited and nervous thinking this could be the start of something. Was also slightly worried though as DH was nightshift so I was in the house by myself. Eventually had a cup of tea and 2 paracetomol and fell asleep. Woke up a few hours later and all pains had gone, I was gutted! I'm not due til the 17th but am wishing the baby out. Not much happening today, feel a bit crampy but not coming to anything.
Take care everyone else.
Good luck with the new man stm!
