Thanks for sharing about your birth Milward.

My mum told me tonight that 44 years ago my eldest brother was due on 14 September. He arrived early on 4 Sept. My baby is due 13 Sept. I didn't realise that my brother was early. Totally irrelevant, but still interesting to me.

Welcome IrishMum.

singleteenagemum · 02/09/2005 13:59

Hi everyone,

it;s too hot to do anything today. had a bath and thats it today!
PC - hope you enjoyed your sex...anyone know where i can get any? lol

Welcome irishmum

mummyhill · 02/09/2005 14:16

Welcome Irishmum.

Have just got back from an exhausting mornings shopping. Got DD her first pair of proper school shoes (made me feel really sad) 3.5 and she has to wear a uniform and black leather shoes.

MIL has just phoned and they are going to take DD for the afternoon so I think I shall have a bath and go to bed for a bi as I am very hot and bothered and did not sleep last night.

have decided that Rasberry leaf capsules are deffinatly better than the tea. Maybe if I am still in bed when dh gets in he will get ideas about starting this baby on its journey to meet us!!!!!!!

jessysmummy · 02/09/2005 15:03

Hello all!
Boy oh boy, you lot can talk for England/Scotland/Wales/NewZealand/and now Ireland too - welcome Irishmum!
After being off line for a week it's taken me 2 days to catch up (in between interruptions from DD and breaks for eating/sleeping). I've even had a tongue-lashing from not so DH for spending too much time on the internet. So after all that you'd have thought that at least one of you ladies could have produced Spt thread baby #3! Very inconsiderate of you all - you're obviously not trying hard enough!!!
It sounds like a few of you are well on the way though . Especially excited about milward as you're due on the same day as me. No sign of anything here yet though and TBH I'm not expecting anything until Oct as bump is still measuring a week behind. oh well...we'll see. I'm 37 weeks tomorrow so will be off for my RLT and hot curries. Good luck to all of you contracting/dilating/waters breaking, etc...
DH and I have been trying the sex thing but keep getting interrupted by one thing or another (usually DD who seems to know that the longer this bump stays in mummy's tummy, the longer she has our complete - except when I'm on MN - attention!)
Arabica, good to hear from you. Thanks for the good wishes for us all and hope you are doing ok?
RZ and LL - so sorry for the sad news about your grandmothers. Hopefully your new addition to the family will provide some small distraction.
ZoeZ - I really like Jasper - good choice! My DS?DBIL were thinking of Thomas for their latest addtion (born Jan 05) but they both work with littlies and once they had counted up half a dozen newbies with the same name they changed it to Archie which really suits the little chap! I would be very surprised if all of us end up with different names for our babes.
STM - think you are absolutely mad camping at such a late stage, though hop eyou enjoyed it. We used to camp quite a lot BC in fact DD was conceived in a tent!!
Beatie et al. - not noticed an increase in discharge though I am passing motions more regularly. Sorry if TMI. Seem to remember this happening last time - nature's own enema!!
PC - like you, I'm concerned about forcing DD to grow up too soon with the arrival of bump. She'll only be 20 months and is still a baby herself. Trying to spend as much time with her as poss before baby arrives though it's hard as I'm not very mobile at the moment ...and she certainly is!
RedH - I had a sweep last time and don't remember it being painful at all. Although I was 3 cm dilated at the time so amybe that had something to do with it?
KK - I don't know what the deadline is here for induction but I know that if nothing has happened by EDD+10 they monitor liquor and bp, etc and as far as I know as long as all is ok leave well alone.
Take care all x

franch · 02/09/2005 17:48

Oh jessysmummy I do know what you mean about your DD - mine is 19m and I keep feeling pangs of guilt when I look at her, so used to being the centre of our world, blissfully unaware of what's about to hit her ... Hopefully it's a gift to her in the long run though. That's what I keep telling myself!

Redhelen · 02/09/2005 18:19

Didn't manage much of a asleep - as loads of lawnmowers appeared and were sequence dancing outside!! (or did I dream that!)Either way the grass has been cut!!

jessysmummy - dd was conceived in a tent!! Wow thats something to embarrass her with when shes older!!!

Read on the net just now - that nipple stimulation is good for bringing on labour - it even said it could take as little as 20 minutes -what do you wise and knowledgable ladies think?

bubbles2904 · 02/09/2005 18:25

redhelen, am tweaking as i type LOLLOLLOL

mummyhill · 02/09/2005 18:25

RH - The way mine are at the moment I would call that torture and would not even consider it!!!!!

nicksptw · 02/09/2005 18:55

Hello y'all. Another newbie here. Due on 29th. Fed up with the weight and the wait...Struggling with my gorgeous son who is 1 on Monday and like a bat out of hell zipping round the place. Would like my body back and a large vodka (probably not poss for a while yet) - oh well.

Good luck to all you September lot

bubbles2904 · 02/09/2005 19:11

Welcome nicksptw

KiwiKate · 02/09/2005 19:15

On the sex/nipple stimulation topic, here is an extract from the notes I received from my antenatal class (see STM, you don't actually need a man for this LOL )

[EXTRACT FROM "NATURAL METHODS OF INDUCTION" TOPIC]
? SEX: ↑ Hormone levels so ripening cervix in readiness for thinning (effacement) and dilation and /or stimulating contractions;

  1. Intercourse- Prostaglandin in semen
  2. Nipple stimulation: ↑Oxytocin levels
  3. Clitoral stimulation: ↑Oxytocin levels

MORE FROM "NATURAL METHODS OF INDUCTION" ...
? Relaxation ? essential as the threat of both Induction & going overdue can naturally cause anxiety if aware of the risks of both. Anxiety can stall onset of labour
? Distraction (eg good book/ movie/ meal/ humour)
? Visualisation ? POSITIVE THINKING. Believe in yourself & your body. Imagine the optimum conditions for giving birth (eg waking at 7-8am after a full nights sleep with contractions starting gently at 10am and baby born by 2pm!!!)

KiwiKate · 02/09/2005 19:16

&#8593 SHOULD read "increase in"

Daisydot · 02/09/2005 21:00

Thanks for all your posts about our little Daisyx She was a superstar, and always will be. We have started a charity in her memory - www.thedaisygarland.org.uk There are pics of Daisy on the website for anyone who'd like a little peek.
KiwiKate, I love your POSITIVE THINKING tip. Now wouldn't that be something! Especially the bit about waking after a full night's sleep! Can't remember when I last had a full night's sleep!
Feeling fed up today. Ankles very puffy and ended up in hospital last night seeing flashing lights in front of my eyes. Thought it might be pre-eclampsia lurking, but by the time the midwife got around to seeing me, the flashing lights had gone! Typical! BP was fine 125/75, urine fine and baby's heartbeat was fine too. Got home at 11pm had a bowl of cereal for supper and went to bed. Tickly cough is getting a little better. At long last..... Hope Freddie/Grace arrive soon. The last couple of weeks seem to be the toughest and of course the most uncomfortable. Off to make a cup of rasp leaf tea....... I quite like the taste.

milward · 02/09/2005 22:01

Hi Jessysmummy - wonder who will be first!! As long as ds is born after 07/09 I don't mind when! My pil arrive then and will be able to look after little ones.

I've sorted out getting dd1&2 back from school if need be but for dd3 who is 2yrs dh will collect her so that she has her car seat. Hope your arrangements are sorted. I've packed some 'emergency' bags for the kids so no worries for pil on where to look for their clothes!! Have packed my labour/birth bag but not my hospital bag. Also have to wash all the baby clothes as well... so much to do.
I had a check on wednesday & was 2cm dilated with head engaged. With being like this will probably be overdue and giving birth in october!! - ahhhh. Feel very heavy. Had the mums at school all saying how huge I look (thanks!!)

Hope all is going well for you

mummyhill · 02/09/2005 22:54

Welcome nicksptw.

Sleep well everyone hope you all have a good weekend.

pooka · 02/09/2005 23:09

Well I am praying that nothing happens for the next 24 hours as dh has now left to go to a wedding 3.5 hours away, is best man, and speeches aren't until 7pm ish tomorrow
Baby moving around like noone's business, which hopefully is a good sign as I heard that they often go slightly quiet before the "final push". But have developed a bit of a backache and it certainly seems lower than yesterday.
Will have to try and take things very easy tomorrow - not the simplest thing with very active dd.

milward · 03/09/2005 00:20

Thanks mummyhill - you as well.
Pooka- hope little one stays put & that your dd doesn't tire you out!

irishmum · 03/09/2005 08:05

God, you all know how to make a girl welcome!!Had tears in my eyes, hormones hormones.Fingers crossed Pooka, hope your baby waits..I had a "clear" show this morning, but DP is due home after a 12hr night shift,so don't think I'll say anything 'till he has had some sleep!
By this stage you want every twinge or cramp to be "IT" don't you?
Hope everyone has a restfull Saturday..thankfully it's not as warm here today. As you've all noticed I can TALK for Ireland, you will be sorry I've joined!

bubbles2904 · 03/09/2005 08:26

i think you'll be the sorry one irishmum. we can all talk too. it's much cooler here too thank god.
well, today is d day, my due date, never thought i'd see this day, the last 9 months have dragged so badly. but as dp keeps telling me, i shouldn't get my hopes up, as only 5 % of babies are born on their due date. as if i don't already know this, ffs.
hope everyone had a nice sleep and have a lovely weekend, i'm going to make the most of what could be my last saturday before my baby and go to the pub for lunch.
still no baby news from zoez, she has definetely had her baby. woo hoo number 3
one of the october babies have been born already, couldn't believe my eyes when i saw that.

sarahhal · 03/09/2005 08:30

Good morning all! Hope you are all well and enjoying your last baby free weeks/days.

Life here is busy to say the least but due to DS1 not Thomas! Thomas is doing fine, pretty contented except between 10-1 am when he is wide awake and suffering from nightime munchies! Am just about getting used to the nightimes and the constant tiredness.

DS1 is waking between 4 and 5 every morning and refusing to go back to sleep again which is the real killer. He is also not napping during the day and taking an hour on a night to settle. It's so hard as it's obviously his reaction to the new baby but it's really really tiring and it falls on DH as it's him that DS always calls for.

Had my first half day yesterday with both of the boys... let's just say a lot more organisation will be needed to keep DS1 entertained! Breast feeding is taking so long that that's another area I'm going to have to work on as DS1 is not the type of boy to sit and cuddle or read whilst I do it for up to an hour!

Dear, i do sound the voice of gloom this morning don't i!!! It's actually wonderful and I know that after these first few weeks we should all be a lot more settled! Am off now to read some sleep posts to find some advice for keeping DS1 in bed!

Good luck with the curries, nipple tweaking and sex!!!!

Redhelen · 03/09/2005 08:36

Beware the nipple stimulation!

Spent between 12- 3 in agony - thought this is it! (back ache & cramps) - took couple of paracetamol to get a little sleep - woke up 7pm and its all stopped!

hello nicksptw

Redhelen · 03/09/2005 08:43

Hello sarahhal

Great to hear from you - I think all our children are about to get a shock - I remember when my brother was born (I was only 2) - I just couldn't wait for him to be 'takenback'!!

Hopefully your ds1 settles to the new routine quickly.

mummyhill · 03/09/2005 09:54

Hi sarahhal - glad you are ok and that thomas is doing well. Hope your other little boy settles down soon.

Slept very well once i got off to sleep (about 2 this morning) to be woken up again at 6 by dd playing very noisily in her bed room.

Question? I have been given some arnica 200 and caulophyllum 200 can anyone with a homeopathic birthing kit tell me what I should be doing with them?

It's looking quite grey here this morning so much for it will be nice over the weekend, don't know why i bother to listen to the forecast cause they never get it right!!!!!

Three days till due date by my reconing (don't trust hospital dates) but may as well add on another seven cause thats how late dd was. Really fed up now house is sorted and we have everything we need, all the clothes have been washed etc etc it's just a really irritating waiting game now.

Hope zoez is ok as we haven't heard from her I am assuming that she has a beautifull baby at home now.

Going to take it easy this morning, stock the freezer/pantry this afternoon and try to get an early night. Been invited out to lunch with the inlaws on Sunday (yipee saves me cooking a roast).

Am realy hoping that this one does not decide to turn up on Tuesday as I do not want to share my birthday. Had enough of that as a child as was made to have joint parties with my sister whilst we were both at home as there is exactly three years and one week between us. Wasn't allowed a party for my 18th, I had to wait till my 21st as her 18th was at the same time so mum threw a big party then!!!!!!!

Wow I have waffled a bit haven't I

LadyLazarus · 03/09/2005 10:35

Mummyhill - the homeopathic remedies you have: I think the arnica you can take from when you start having proper contractions, and during the labour. Can help with the pain + healing afterwards (you can also carry on takin git after the birth to help ease swelling + discomfort). The caulophyllum can be used during the labour if your contractions are 'weak' or you are not dilating very well. I think you can also use this remedy after your due date to try to bring about labour. Hope that helps!

I need to make an effort to get out of the flat today, haven't been out all week really (except for the curry the other night) and starting to get slight cabin-fever...

zoezebra · 03/09/2005 11:12

Well mums / mums to be, have just got back from hospital with Jasper born on 2nd Sept at 1.57am weighing 6lbs and 15oz. We are all well, a very quick natural labour with Gas and Air. J pooed when my waters went so we were kept in overnight for meconium obs. About to wait for the onslaught of visitors, so will post again as soon as get some time. Good luck to all of you, not had chance to see who's nearly there and who is still trying to bring it on... Thinking of you all xx
