beatie · 01/09/2005 16:19

I've sent DH to the pharmacy to get some of that gel. I think it is called anbusol or something - like PC says. It's my best hope.

pooka · 01/09/2005 16:59

Oh Daisydot, so sorry to hear about your little girl I just can't even begin to imagine what you've been through.......
dd was born when there was a full moon - her due date. It all seemed very new agey because she is a cancerian (July) and, being a water sign, they're supposed to be very deeply affected by the waxing and the waning of the moon. Tosh, I'm sure, but interesting nonetheless.

franch · 01/09/2005 16:59

Daisydot, I'm so sorry about your daughter.

I hope you manage to shake off your cough. Mine seems to be easing a bit which is a relief as my EDD is this coming Monday. Just popped out to the shops for rasp leaf tea and evening primrose oil and my goodness, I can barely walk, this baby is jammed down so far into my pelvis. Surely she can't stay there much longer??

Not had much time to read through the posts today as have been having contractions since 7.30am this morning. Been to hospital and they have confirmed baby is in cephalic posterior position (star gazer), so looks like I am in for a back ache labour. Things happening so much slower this time for me. Baby is a healthy 8lbs dd was tiny so this is huge for me and I am only a size 8, 5ft 3in!!
Anyway, am staying at home for the worst part and then have to go back in when contractions are 1 minute long and happening 3 every 10 mins. Been getting them every 5-8 mins since 7.30 this morning but not painful and they were not very long lasting. Things are starting to kick off now though (think it may have been the yukky internal exam). Will let you know if I have any news or DH will. Good luck to anyone else thats in labour and theres hope yet, I am 8 days early!

Redhelen · 01/09/2005 17:39

zoezebra - good luck xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sallie · 01/09/2005 17:41

Well, we are into September now! Went to see consultant today who examined me and said my cervix is soft and 1-2cms dilated although that could mean anything from going into labour in a few days time to longer.....anyway, good to feel that things are progressing. My due date isn't until 13 Sept and would prefer babe to wait until 8 Sept when my parents come back from their hols and can look after ds and dd! Am booked in for induction on my due date, have home delivery kit just in case, along with IV antibiotics which dh is allowed to administer as he is a doctor. So all bases covered - now just need to start thinking about encouraging labour along I guess! Best of luck Zoezebra. My dd was posterior and was only in labour for 3 hours. It was a lot more intense but not as bad as I was led to believe of back to back labours. And I didn't get time for any pain relief......

milward · 01/09/2005 20:07

Best wishes zoezebra!!
My dd1 was back to back - was only tough once waters had broken at 6cms. Had an epidural which was bliss & gave birth quickly in a birth chair.

andif · 01/09/2005 20:17

Good Luck Zoezebra

Sallie, why are they inducing you on your due date?

Daisydot, can't imagine what you must have gone through in the last year - my ds2 is 6 in 2 days, just thinking about your loss makes me feel tearful.

Saw midwife this morning. Nothing really to report, although feels like baby trying to kick out sideways. Blood pressure is 120/75 - as last week when GP sent me in, but she didn't seem worried. Now wishing I had queried it as am imagining a headache coming on and getting neurotic . Measured 40 wks, although am only 38 wks, so maybe it will come early...

Redhelen · 01/09/2005 21:58

Bubbles - your quiet is there news???

Take care everyone - hope it's a better night for sleeping!

Kiwifruit · 01/09/2005 22:04

just typed a huge long post and managed to lose it. Grrrr....

LadyL - - so sorry to hear of your loss.

Daisydot - so sorry about your daughter, I can't begin to imagine going through that. Makes me teary just thinking about it .

Zoezebra - good luck!!!!

Hats off to those of you who managed hot curries and sex in the heat last night - have to say that nothing could have been further from my mind!! In fact, I was almost wishing that I was back in the office, purely to take advantage of the airconditioning...

Went to the GP for the first time since I went when first pg today. Have changed surgeries since then, so hadn't met this particular GP, and he is LOVELY - very gentle and unassuming. Unfortunately the baby is back to back at the moment, but am hoping that it's just in the process of moving itself around from ROA to LOA (was ROA last midwife appointment) - tried the pillow hammock thing last night, and felt like it had all moved around this morning, so will repeat again tonight and see if I can get baby to complete the manouever . Otherwise will be adopting the upside down position on the spinning babies website (great link, thanks KiwiKate).

My workmates threw a babyshower for me and my manager last night - was quite overwhelmed by their generosity - I got some lovely gifts. Mind you, they owed me after their severe over estimation of my belly girth in the ribbon game (they each had to cut of a length of ribbon that they thought was the correct length to fit around my belly - some of them were about 1/2 a metre out - what must I look like??!! ).

Pooka - I'm a cancer, so hopefully that means that the full moon will get me started (best I get on with all the jobs I need to get done before the 17th then!).

Whew, that was a bit of a novel - hope everyone is well...

KiwiKate · 02/09/2005 00:43

Oh Daisydot - how tragic to loose a child. None of us can even begin to imagine what you have gone through. I hope and pray that your new baby will be a healthy thriving child.

KiwiKate · 02/09/2005 00:53

Don't know what is up with me. I can sleep wonderfully in the day (if given half a chance) but night time sleep is impossible (even if I don't do a daytime sleep)

Thanks for the encouragement from those who've had posterior/back-to-back labours. Were you overdue? Did you have to get induced?

Kiwifruit, let me know how you get on with the positioning exercises. I'm sure baby has turned since mw was here last, but I can't really tell how baby is now positioned.

Mummyhill - thanks for the interesting post on diy inductions. Some interesting (if disturbing) ideas (eve primrose oil taken internally? mmm!)

Got clary sage oil yesterday - mmm really enjoyed it in the bath (or maybe it was just not having to share the bath with DS who was at PILs that made it a lovely experience). Interested to note that it is recommended during and after labour (on a hot or cold compress in the painfull area, or in the bath for waterbirth) to alleviate pain and potential pnd. Also got my Raspberry Leaf pills and was pleased to see that as well as an aid to labour they are also recommended to help build up milk supply (presumably once baby arrives).

KiwiKate · 02/09/2005 01:04

Oh, Kiwikate, if you happen to go into labour with baby posterior, then baby is more likely to turn anterior during labour if your waters have not yet broken, so if given the option (and if waters didn't break naturally) it is worth keeping this in mind.

KiwiKate · 02/09/2005 01:16

oops - meant to say kiwifruit (I was not posting a memo to myself!)

Redhelen · 02/09/2005 01:27

KiwiKate

Hello - can't sleep either!

Baby is mainly roa - but I can usually move her into oa - going to keep trying to keep this position. I read loa is the best starting position - but she's never been keen!

Going to try to sleep again!

KiwiKate · 02/09/2005 04:39

rh hope you got back to sleep. I understand from mw that the starting positions are as follows
LOA = BEST
ROA = GOOD
ROP = NOT GOOD
LOP = WORST (other than breach = bum down, or transverse = baby lying sideways across tummy)

So if your baby starts at ROA you are still doing pretty well, even though LOA is preferable

KiwiKate · 02/09/2005 04:45

rh how are you managing to turn your baby LOA? How do you know when it has turned?

LadyLazarus · 02/09/2005 08:49

Daisydot - so sorry to hear about your loss last year. Hope you are managing to enjoy this pregnancy without too many sad memories.

I am feeling a bitbetter this morning. Went for a curry last night with hubby (as it was our first wedding anniversary!)... no heartburn, but no signs of baby either! Still having the crampy pains, but nothing particularly regular (seems to either be one long cramp for ages, or none for a while). Good luck zoezebra, hoping this is it for you!

LadyLazarus · 02/09/2005 09:08

PS andif - a blood pressure of 120 / 75 is fine. Nothing to worry about.

bubbles2904 · 02/09/2005 09:27

hi everyone, nope, no news here.
daisydot, sorry about your dd must be terrible, and i have no idea how you must be feeling right now, thinking of you xxx
ladyl, so sorry about your loss xxx, my grandad died when i was pg with dd, horrible experience, feeling for you right now.
rz, i think it was you that said that raspberry tea tastes ok, for the first time i totally disagree with you LOL
redhelen, i know i was quiet yesterday, just rested for the day but have now decided that the longer i sit around moping the more comfortable my baby will be and take ages to come out. so today i'm keeping busy all day hopefully.
beatie, glad you've decided on names, and glad you got your choice, love it when a plan comes together
katts, don't worry too much about dressing your baby, you'll be a dab hand within a few days, it comes so naturally. just remember, advice is free, and you'll get a lot of this. just go with your instincts and you'll be fine.
rhumba, congratulations on finishing work, feels like ages a long time ago since i finished work.
franch, LOL that you keep finding reasons why your baby has to stay put, i'm also doing that. one minute i'm ready and want it out and the next i'm petrified.
kiwifruit, in total agreement with you about sex being the furthest thing from your mind, as for curry, i hate the stuff. don't hate sex but the very thought turns my stomach at the minute, although my mums comments really didn't help LOL
glad you enjoyed your baby shower though, sounds lovely LOL about the string.
zoezebra, good luck, hope you have you baby now. the first september baby, god i'm sooooooo broody now.
Hope i haven't missed anyone out, sorry if i have. what a long post this turned out to be.

irishmum · 02/09/2005 09:53

hi all.Am a "new girl",but have been reading the posts on mumsnet for ages.on maternity leave now and decided to join!Due Sept 15th,and bored bored bored..

milward · 02/09/2005 10:22

Hello All,

Andif - your bp of 125/75 is fine. Mine was 135/75 on wednesday & this was ok as well.

KiwiKate - for the back to back labour I was 2 days overdue. Went to the hospital at midnight (of course!!) to be told that they would probably see me back in two days when labour had got going. Went home. As soon as got home lots of pain - pulled the tousers of my pjs tight across my back like a strap. Then sat on the loo - thinking two days of this! Waters broke plus some blood. Got to hospital at 3am - the m/w surprised to see me - was 6cm dilated. I could only shout the words epidural! Got this & was the best thing. Could feel to push - although not straight away when 10 cms. Went into the birth chair & delivered no problems or intervention. Felt fine. DD1 was born peacefully and was really alert. Found that preassure on the back really helped to counteract the force of the baby against my back. This was my first labour but still had back pain with dd3 & she wasn't babck to back so I think it just depends also on your structure as well. I see a physio who will be with me for labour & the birth. SHe will massage my back and press on to it. This worked well last time. Best wishes.

Redhelen · 02/09/2005 10:47

Hello - irishmum

Very bad night last night - could only sleep after 6am - by which time dh gone to work and ds is up and about!

Hoping my parents are going to collect ds shortly and I can go back to bed!

Have a good few jobs around the house to do - and I'm worried I'm running out of time to do them. But I suppose if my body is saying slow down - thats what I should do?!

Any news Zoezebra?? - glad your ok bubbles - if fed up!

PiccadillyCircus · 02/09/2005 11:55

Hello Irishbird . I am due on the 16th and also eagerly awaiting this baby.

Redhelen, hope your parents have DS and that you are in bed.

DH and I had sex this morning and I think he was expecting or at least hoping this would mean I would be in labour immediately . Had to disappoint him. He did work from home this morning and also take DS to the park which was nice. And DS is now in his cot having a sleep so all is well here.

I wonder if ay babies have been born yet...

bubbles2904 · 02/09/2005 12:00

welcome irishmum.
redhelen, you sound as peed off as i do. glad you're ok, just hope you get a rest, theres nothing worse than feeling fed up especially when you're tired too. listen to your body.
