where is a good place to look for maternity bra's? Any suggestions welcome!

cowboylover · 20/09/2010 20:40

I will let you know! Seams a Next 22 which usually fits is smaller in Maternity! Crazy!

I am glad my boobs are not as sore this week but im really not looking forward to nursing or non underwired bras. My already ample boobs wont be controled by fabric alone and the one thing I really love to spend on is my silky undies x

Purplebuns · 20/09/2010 20:43

Bravado seem to the best for nunga holders in my experience. Whatever you do, DO NOT go to M&S or mothercare if your big (like me)

Maternity trousers are a must or an elasticated top like leggings maybe? as long as they don't dig in for comfort while your bloated.etc :)

Hello all.

I've been feeling really hot (almost sweaty) one minute and freezing cold the next. I thought I was coming down with something as I have a sore throat too and DS was off school with cold last Friday. So maybe its the pregnancy.

loopymumsy I'm not gonna be relaxed at all not until this little one is born (if we get that far, this time).

Midwife called today, booking in appointment is on 1st October (same day as next scan).

Anybody having a planned caesarean? I will be. I have a (ahem!) man shaped pelvis. Diagnosed after nearly two days of labour with DD.

Not sure loopymumsy. Consultant just said every 2 weeks. EPU to scan us til 12 weeks then consultant (herself) from 12 weeks. Not sure if I said how I lost DS Jack. Don't think I did because I didn't want people on this thread worrying.

Completely understand where you are coming from loopymumsy.

Well I got my Big Box o' Maternity Clothes down from the top of the cupboard and the tops are fair enough but the trousers all an utter disaster. Admittedly this is for a good reason (am a stone lighter than at same stage last time) but am v pear shaped and vividly remember misery of trying to find decent ones even in a size 16 so really sympathise with everyone looking now.

I did get through last time for quite a while with normal trousers + trusty bump bands (like these) and belly belt expander - mostly at the same time in fact.

So far (given that am not 8 wks yet) have been massively tempting fate by buying 2 x Gap maternity jeans (on one of their 30% off weeks) and 2 x gorgeous, comfy jersey Topshop maternity dresses and leggings. Have also been eyeing up which normal clothes am prepared to ruin by stretching them over the bump when the time comes. Am going to try very hard not to buy much more, but the hunt for a decent pair of black trousers that will fit over my 'sturdy' thighs continues...

zinnia · 20/09/2010 21:27

Sorry MummyW x-posted there - sounds like your consultant is looking after you but can understand your not being able to relax. Hope your symptoms calm down and the worry gets more manageable.

MrsChemist · 20/09/2010 21:30

Luckily, I still have all my maternity clothes from last time, so I don't need to go through that hellish shopping experience again.
Very few places do petite maternity, and the places that do are expensive (Mothercare is expensive and shite quality)

Has anyone found that they actually feel more nauseated after they've eaten? This morning I felt fine, wasn't hungry, so skipped breakfast. Had lunch, and I've felt like shit ever since.

I've not had dinner yet, because I'm so tired and the thought of cooking is making retch.
DH is on is way home. He may take pity on me and make me a sandwich.

MummyWilliams · 20/09/2010 21:51

I had the day off today. Just too tired. But I work for myself so it means no money for today.

I spent the morning packing away my clothes and filling the wardrobes and drawers with maternity clothes Grin I had some stuff from ladt time and have bought alot of stuff from eBay. My fave shop is H&M. I'm a size 12 and I think the choice of maternity clothes is quite limited anyway, do really feel for those who are struggling.

purplebuns I'm quite huge of norkage too. I just want something slightly supportive but mostly I want comfort. Maybe non-wired would be best, but haven't worn non-wired since school - so not sure.

It's definitely bedtime now. So tired [wide mouthed yawn emoticon].

I have gone off food totally except grapes! And only red ones!

Made a nice pasta bake for dinner and ate 2 bites and that was it. I have lost 6lbs in 2 weeks which is a first for me x

Tiggly · 20/09/2010 22:09

I think the nausea is just beginning with me. I am managing to eat ok, but go through fazes of not being able to think of or even consider food.

cowboylover I am glad it's not just me who wants to continue with lovely underwear even though the boulders are getting bigger all the time! My boobs are changing on a daily basis with regards to discomfort. Some days they are mega sore, and then other days they settle back down again. Is anyone else feeling like this?

sesamesmith · 20/09/2010 22:28

Due on May 17th and going from being really positive, sickly, worried, to just plain knackered! It's interesting to hear about everyone else with symptoms so early on, not least cramping-type pains. I am thinking it's probably not ectopic but just implantation/stretching pains, but can't help worrying!
Best of luck to everyone - it's such early days...

Tiggly · 20/09/2010 22:32

Sesamesmith - the cramping pains have had me stressing so much over the last 48 hours! Thankfully Tinwe helped to put my mind at rest and I managed to get a bit of sleep last night! I seem to tick every box when I think about it - feeling like I have a cold, sore boobs, cramps, dizzyness, and now a bit of ?nausea ?going off food! So much going on! Fingers crossed we will all get there safely and happily.xxxx

runningmonkey · 21/09/2010 08:25

morning all,
sorry been absent for a while, truly feeling terrible and have a cold on top of nausea/tiredness/general pants feelings. Not helped by DH who has same cold and of course is 'dying' of man-flu Hmm

re clothes I loved gap last time although can never buy trousers to fit. Got a couple of nice pairs of work trousers from debenhams red herring maternity (they do short leg lengths) but tried them on the other day and they look like clown trousers atm!! H&M was my other saviour - bought lots of their long-line mat vests and then just wore a load of normal t-shirts and tops over the top.

re bras I don't know how true this is but I was told by a currently pg friend that the 'no underwires' rule is a bit of a myth - as long as you get your fit checked regularly to check that the wires are not pressing on the breast tissue you can wear underwired bras throughout pregnancy and feeding should you wish to - sounds good to me anyway!

southpacificfish · 21/09/2010 09:00

Gosh what a busy thread since I was on yesterday! Agree with Purplebuns about mothercare bras not being up to scratch but I was ok with M&S. Was looking at very.co.uk yesterday and might give them a try this time. Think its pretty rubbish that La Senza don't do a maternity range.

Re maternity clothes - if you're small-ish then top shop were pretty good (if you can find one of the larger stores) but I think I mostly ended up wearing larger sized tops rather than actual maternity ones last time. There is definitely a shortage of good value maternity wear on the high street.

Feeling much better today than yesterday thank god. Even considering going outside to do some Tai Chi!!

Does anybody with children already have any advice for how to handle a 2.5 year old when the baby is born? I know it sounds like jumping the gun but I do like to be prepared!

Icanonlytry · 21/09/2010 09:53

Hi, Can I join you? Smile Found out we are expecting our second baby on the 16th May.

I cant believe how tired I am, have been going to bed at 8 for the last week, sleeping until 7 and still feeling worn out by dinner time.

Have been having horrible cramps since yesterday and some brown discharge. Dont know if I should just wait and see if it stops or call the gp. Sounds like quite a few of you have had the same though which makes it feel a bit better but still worried.
Ordered some maternity trousers yesterday, Only 6+1 but I cant fasten any of my trousers Shock

zinnia · 21/09/2010 10:35

Welcome Icanonlytry and congratulations! Give your GP a call if you're worried, might be good for peace of mind...

Feeling slightly better today than yesterday, thank god, though still dog tired. Why is the first trimester so disproportionately knackering? It's not as if we're lugging huge bellies around at this stage!

re bras I agree with runningmonkey - went through the whole of my last pg with underwires, as long as you get measured properly (would recommend John Lewis over M&S) you should be fine. "Supporting" DDs (as mine were then) in a non-wired bra for 7 or 8 months is not a happy prospect.

There's a thread about this on the Pregnancy boards if anyone's interested.

Icanonlytry we are due on the same day!

I saw my GP yesterday with bad cramping and he said not to worry an it is normal at this stage. But he did say if there is any unusual discharge to see him again so I would give your GP a call to put your mind at rest.

Icanonlytry · 21/09/2010 11:51

Loopymumsy, I saw some maternity jeans on the next website yesterday, sure they had a full jersey panel, They reminded me of ones I had when I was pregnant with DD.
Cowboylover, Smile glad your GP didn't think there was anything to worry about.
My maternity trousers have came, feel so comfortable, thought they might be too big and fall down Grin but they actually have an adjustable waist. DP wont be able to laugh at me walking around the house with my buttons undone now.

Have been trying to ring GP but it is just impossible to get through, always engaged. Will keep trying though.

LifesComplicated · 21/09/2010 12:03

IheartRPatz - Good to hear the spotting's slowed. I think a private scan might be useful to put your mind at rest.

Wobblewatcher - so sorry to hear your news but I'm impressed by your strength and will keep everything crossed for your next try.

Tiggly and others - period pain type cramping seems to be almost universal (earlier on this thread and others there is a lot of discussion of it) and is definitely just your uterus stretching. I had it for about a month but it stopped a couple of weeks ago which I think is also normal. Only if it becomes v painful, is to one side, or is accompanied by blood should you be concerned.

Hope everyone's ok. This thread is so fast I cant keep up with all the new members and everyone's news! Big smiles.

IheartRPatz · 21/09/2010 12:30

So far, seem to be avoiding sickness, though I am so tired! I need to find a quiet corner somewhere for a nap. I remember being really fatigued last time, had hoped that I'd be bounding with energy.
Still not feeling too optimistic though, despite any symptoms I have. Am convinced its going to be bad news tomorrow, am really panicking. I know logically, that is there is no heartbeat seen, it doesn't mean it is bad news, that it may just be too early. I am driving myself loopy though not knowing, so either way, I'm a bit nutty at the moment!
Just hoping that there is some glimmer of hope tomorrow which will put my mind at ease until 21st Oct (booking in appointment) and then until whenever I get an NHS scan, which given they cant arrange until I tell them my hospital preference, is going to be really late Oct or Nov.

I finally managed to get through to my GP and have got an appointment in the morning, Still got the brown discharge and just noticed a few red spots of blood also.
Hope its good news but not feeling too positive at the moment Sad
