Here's the new thread for the September 2010 arrivals - though some babies have already come in July and August, and maybe more to come in August before we're done with this month...

TheUnmentioned · 14/09/2010 09:57

Hi guys

Hope you dont mind me sticking my nose in, I have been lurking for a few weeks!

I just wanted to reply to swordfish to try and put your mind at ease a wee bit. I was induced with ds at 40+11.

It was a really, really positive experience for me, maybe not exactly as I would have chosen but certainly not the hideous experience you ofetn hear about.

I had a gel on the Thu night about 7pm and another on the Fri at 8am. That got me to 1.5cm (big woop!). They broke my waters at that and I started having contractions but not regularly. I went on the dreaded drip at 6pm (waters broken 3pm) and that obviously sped things up. Ds was born just after midnight. The labour wasnt awful on unbearable and ds was almost 9lbs with an enormous head and my 1st baby. Ok so I had 2 failed epidurals but even with that taken into consideration the drip did not hurt that much (well, you know, it did obviously but it wasnt AWFUL). I didnt like that I was stuck on the bed but these things happen and at the end of the day I got my wee boy in a relatively quick and manageable labour with only minimal tearing.

I hope that puts your mind at ease.

I am currently 40+3 and trying to remain calm!!

parkj83 · 14/09/2010 10:00

Lol, sorry chat, I didn't make that very clear, did I - my bad Blush

Well, that's tonight, so wait and see what happens...!

cinnamon massive congratulations, and I love the name too :)

Hope you both are well and happy Wink x

BooStar · 14/09/2010 10:27

Congratulations Cinnamon!! So pleased your labour went well :)

Swordfish I'll be sending you contraction vibes throughout today and if that fails today we'll have to virtual handhold through our inductions tomorrow. Although I did hear from my yoga friend who was due for induction last week and she went into labour naturally at about 4.30 of the morning she was due to go to hospital to be induced. So there's hope for us yet!!
However, I'm in the same situation as you re my stubborn cervix so I'm a bit more resigned now to the fact that I'll be going in on Wednesday but in a way, now that it's so close I'm starting to be able to get excited again, it's not my ideal birth but I'm still going to try to stand my ground as much as possible over being able to move around and try to avoid the more major forms of pain-relief.
But just think that in 48hrs we'll be holding our babies!!!

And in the meantime you'll find me walking up and down stairs yanking at my nipples!! Now there's a mental image for you!! Confused

beaditAli · 14/09/2010 10:33

Ha ha BooStar! I've been yanking for days now too. My poor little bumps will be exhausted before breastfeeding even begins. Shock
If only sobbing speeded things up I'd be well on the way. Just broke down in the vets Blush on my flipping due date! Taking the poochy back in this aft and have a feeling he may not be coming home again.
One in one out at our house it seems..... Sad
40 today

parkj83 · 14/09/2010 10:46

Oh beadit un-mumsnetty for you x

comixminx · 14/09/2010 11:20

Congratulations to Cinnamon and big commiserations to beaditAli - how horrible for you!

Things are busy here with feeding, trying to get sleep, and trying to make sure the two adults continue to look after themselves and each other well enough. It's a full time job, isn't it!

OP posts:
bananastew · 14/09/2010 12:50

Congratulations Cinnamon love the name. It was on our list!

Poor you beaditAli hope you're ok.

To all of you waiting patiently & dreading induction, 2 of my friends recently went in to be induced & on examination 1 was actually 5cm & hadn't felt a thing & the other was 2cm so they left them to progress. Just shows there's hope right down to the final moment!

Bring on the babies!

foxyjbro99 · 14/09/2010 13:08

Hi all,
I had my baby last thurs (11 days overdue) I was booked in for induction the next day, so happy things ended up happening naturally - here's the birth story x

I had a sweep last wednesday, and mw said i was already 3cm dilated!
Thursday 6am woke up with a massive contraction - felt like it was going to be born there and then! DH took ages to wake up - I was trying to get him to phone my mom to come and look after dd1&2, but he seemed unable to use his phone!!! mom didn't answer!! phoned my sis, and they headed around to ours. In the meantime i'd had no more contractions, things seemed to have stopped! Phoned mom (who was already at the end of my road) to say don't rush! we all thought it was a false alarm. I had a bath & things kicked off again. Got to hospital at 730am, had some gas & air & was told i was 8cm! had a bit of pethadine and tahlia elizabeth was born at 8:42am weighting 9lb 1oz!!
Very painful, but very quick. Home now, finding breastfeeding very painful!! need some more gas and air!

parkj83 · 14/09/2010 13:22

Congratulations foxy :)

And congrats that it all happened naturally too Wink

Huge congrats to foxy and Cinnamon

I feel soooo jealous! Really want to meet my little wriggle bum. Am starting to get impatient and I'm not even 39 weeks yet alone over due. x x

I've been told to get some Arnica for the bruising (according to hospital suggestions for bag packing). Have others used this? And if so, do you need to get the gel, the tablets or both? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hope you are all feeling well today ladies. Just off to docs to see MW. Hoping she will tell me that baba's head is engaged!!!! Fingers crossed.

Chathappy · 14/09/2010 14:48

Congratulations cinnamon and foxy!! And hope you're okay bead, thats really sad.

I really thought things would kick off last night but once again I've woken up and nothing has happened! I've once again been having loads of strong bh today but they never seem to turn in to anything though....

Seeing the midwife tomorrow (if nothing happens tonight!) and she will do a sweep and hopefully try and get things going.

I dread going to pick up my son every day at school now as all the mums look at me all sympathetically and say things like 'oohh you still haven't had it!' noooo.... I haven't....... Confused

Swordfishtrombones · 14/09/2010 16:25

Congratulations Cinnamon and foxy - brilliant news Grin.

Thanks TheUnmentioned for your positive induction story. It's good to know that the drip isn't always as bad as I hear. And good luck you won't need to this time!

Boostar - I had a fabulous show last night (you can't imagine how much I loved the sight of that big jellified plug of gunk!) and was all excited as I woke up at 6am with really good regular contractions. However, they started to tail off, I got the DDs out to school and nursery and had another run of contractions whilst I sat on my gym ball watching Jeremy Kyle. But they didn't really speed up from every 8 minutes and weren't that bad, and then they stopped.

So it does look like induction beckons, but I'm much more positive now as my cervix has obviously softened up and stretched a bit (who knows, the hideous sweep might have done the trick) and the contractions mean that I'm gearing up for it. Fingers crossed it will happen tonight before the gel arrives at 6am! And if I have to have the gel then at least it might work more quickly.

So good luck tomorrow boostar - I'll race ya!

Jodeylea - I've taken Arnica pillules both times previously, and I have no idea if it helped at all, but I've got them again this time because I healed up quickly both previous times (one episiotomy and one tear that needed stitching). Also hypercal cream is supposed to help. I think I've mentioned it before, but Earth Mama Angel Baby do a couple of great products called bottom balm and bottom spray (or something along those lines) and they're really soothing. They're American but you can get them via amazon and ebay etc.

Good luck everyone!

cathn · 14/09/2010 16:28

Congratulations cinnamon and foxy! I love the names you've chosen.

Have been having BH on and off for the last few days and also today (sorry if TMI) have been popping to the loo for number twos more than usual so am hoping these are signs that baby might be arriving soon.

Would be lovely if arrives on Friday cos then will share a birthday with my cousin's little boy (who will be 3 on Friday), and there is a history of people sharing birthdays in my family!

Huge congratulations to cinnamon and foxy, hope your both doing well and enjoying your new mum status.

whammie76 · 14/09/2010 17:29

Congrats Foxy on birth of your little girl, beautiful name!

JodeyLea · 14/09/2010 18:01

Thanks swordfish I'll take a look at those other products.

BeaditAli so sorry to to hear your pooch news. Hope you're ok x x x

I'm a little disappointed to find out that my LO has only engaged by another 5th (now 3/5 palp) over the last two weeks. I was sure it had dropped lower with all the little signs of engagement. Oh well, I'm sure it'll fully engage when it's good and ready.

38+4

mellymooks · 14/09/2010 19:39

Hello folks just back from MW and I'm fully engaged (no wonder I've felt like he's going to fall out!) and she reckons he should decide to make an appearance sooner rather than later, I finally feel excited!!

Also had a really good chat with her about my fear of internals/sweeps/inductions etc and she was brill and really put my mind at rest, I feel like I can be a lot more in control now and she knows how I feel about everything too I just hope she's actually about when I go into labour!

So little man if you're listening my MIL arrives tomorrow eve so anytime you fancy making an appearance after that would be fabulous!!

Lots of labour vibes and come on get engaged vibes to you all xxxxx

JodeyLea · 14/09/2010 20:18

How exciting Mellymooks I'm very jealous! You're a week infront of me so fingers crossed I will be following in your footsteps by this time next week. Haven't got another appointment now though to check until i'm 4 days overdue Sad.

Been looking on the web trying to find ideas to keep me occupied as /i'm finding the days seem to really drag at the moment and there is only so much TV I can watch before feeling sluggish and the house is completely clean and ready for LO's arrival. I'm thinking retail therapy, walks and cinema with DH, though sitting on cinema seats is not the most comfortable way of spending a couple of hours! I know I should be loving all this time away from work but I am so bored and am totally obsessed with baby thoughts and questioning every niggle and pain. I know these feeling are only going to become more intense as the days/weeks pass by.

Anyone found any genius ways of passing the time away?

cinnamongreyhound · 14/09/2010 20:38

Congratulations foxyjbro99!

So sorry to hear about your dog beaditAli, I'm not surprised you cried anyone would pregnant or not!!

My induction story was much better than I ever hoped swordfishtrombones. Had gel at 9am, prostin pains instantly- very uncomfortable and constant but after walking up stairs contractions started to be distinct and I had breaks between by about 1.30pm. Felt I needed to go back in by 2.15, got there just after 3 and contractions were less than a minute apart and I was 7cms. Once I got there I had to have monitors on and despite the midwives efforts to allow me to be mobile they wanted me on the bed as they kept loosing baby's heart beat. Felt the need to push but only towards the end of contraction so did an examination which found a small lip that baby couldn't get past midwife rubbed it with each contraction and eventually it went. Then pushed for 45 mins and out popped my little man. Had few stitches for small second degree tear and a beautiful little boy!

beaditAli · 14/09/2010 22:55

Oh cinnamon.... you make it sound so calm even after all you went through being induced too. You're obviously a natural. Hope little Luke is enjoying his new surroundings! Smile
Huge congrats to foxy too. Beautiful name too. Doesn't it feel weird not seeing pics of our September arrivals? I'm so used to Facebook etc. Maybe i'll pop a link to my fb page once our little man appears so you can see pics if you want.
Thanks everyone for your messages of support re: pooch. He is still with us but totally non responsive really. Stopped his chemo to see if it was all too much too soon. I know this is a thread for bambinos but the timing of it all has just made it impossible for me to keep to myself. Apologies for those sick of hearing about it Hmm
Well.... looks as tho my EDD will pass with no action from Bumpy. He has been majorly still tonight. Perhaps he knows things are difficult with pooch and he's being kind and giving us time? Who knows?
Seeing my mw on Thursday and then she said an induction would follow next week. Of which I know nothing about so really should read up. No mention of stretch and sweep though? Confused
Still mildly hopeful for tonight but doubt it.... need to stop being so emotionally drained and get my brain sorted for labour.
Good luck melly and everyone else due imminently! Smile Smile Smile
