Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
niamh29 · 30/09/2010 22:50

I hate the thought of getting any vaccination when I'm pregnant, why are they recommending we get the flu jab this year over any other year??

Larty74 · 01/10/2010 08:40

Re bump: I think I'm on the very verge of is she/isn't she as some people say I can't believe how big it is and some say, my you've lost weight - where is it? very confusing! Confused

re: movement, never quite sure what I'm feeling but as some of you say, it will come and they will get more and more obvious. I'm on my feet most of the day so hard to tell anyway.

B-day weekend for me so am spending it w/ DH, my animals and the new breadmaker whilst watching UP on blue-ray! bliss. Grin

Oh and definitely got a nudge toward doing NCT class as opposed to my local NHS. I rang to find out what they are like and it's a one-day thing and the lady I spoke to was less than enthusiastic and it's not even very local.

Niamh hope you are feeling better soon - take care of yourself!

Everyone else, enjoy your weekend!

pushmepullyou · 01/10/2010 10:05

I think the flu jab is because of the increased swine flu risk when pregnant (but I could be wrong). I think the risks of complications are higher when you are pregnant. I will have it if it is offered

sam26oscar · 01/10/2010 10:48

morning ladies!!
nowpanicandfreakout i don't think there's a limit, i use it every evening itds ,y little treat Grin once put DS to bed and after my bubble bath i relax on sofa and listen in!!! if anyone knows anything on how often you can use it please let me know!!!

pushmepullyou i will be having the jab too, my DS had swine flu last year as did the little boy i nanny for. i also caught it but luckily not anywhere near as bad as they had it, it was horrendous. Watching my little boy almost delirious wiht high temperature, hallucinating and generally severley ill, i wont be taking any chances with this pg. Also my boss (little boys mum) is a g.p and she recommended that i should have it.

my sister who lives in Belgium also had it last year when she was in 3rd trimester and it was offered to all pg women out there afaik.

1Catherine1 · 01/10/2010 11:21

I am very nervous of the idea of getting a jab while pregnant. I had swine flu pretty bad last year and was off work for a week and had anti-virals for the flu. I was one of the few in my school that caught it and to my knowledge I was the first. So god only knows where I got it from. I'm going to play it safe and avoid sick children. If they're sick I'll send them somewhere else, in all fairness they have no right to contaminate my room with germs in the first place regardless of if they have exams in a few weeks or not. I'm a bitch I know :(

Had my 16 week appointment this morning. Midwife said she was very happy with everything and the baby has a nice strong heartbeat. s/he keep fidgeting but we heard it and it was lovely. So far a nice normal pregnancy, which is exactly what I wanted to hear. Bring on the 20 week scan!!!

superpenguin · 01/10/2010 12:58

Hello all.

jeffily hope you enjoyed your day off!

emma sorry to hear you're still feeling sick. I felt awful until about 16 weeks.
I'm 18 weeks and still get the odd sicky feeling but am about 95% better so hopefully you will feel better very soon too!

re. appointments, I think there are different schedules depending if it's your first pregnancy or not, and also depending if you are high risk or any problems or not.
I last saw someone at the 12 week scan and I have my next midwife appt at 18 weeks, actually the appt is on Tuesday.

jammie that sounds like a hard day, you deserve a break!

purple wonderful news about hearing the heartbeat.

chickie great news on your test results too!

niamh sorry to hear you're feeling down, hope you feel better soon. it's horrible being ill at the same time as being pregnant!
I can empathise here as I have landed a horrid cold this week. :(

I also heard the news about the flu jab, not sure when that new policy is coming into effect though. Personally I think this sounds like good news - I'd much rather have a jab than risk having flu, although I must confess I don't know much about what the risks are. Confused

Hello to everyone else! :)

I'm 18 weeks today and other than having a cold am feeling quite ok.
Although last night I had a bit of a crying session for no real reason.

Bring on the weekend!

Medee · 01/10/2010 15:33

I heard my baby's heartbeat this week too at my 16 weeks check up - very reassuring!

katster37 · 01/10/2010 16:11

Hello... Can I tentatively join?? I am expecting my second baby in MArch - the 13th I think, though one scan said the 9th. DS is only 10 months so it was a little unexpected, but very exciting! My 12 week scan was at 14 weeks and the sonographer said it looked like a little boy!

1Catherine1 · 01/10/2010 17:32

aww so jealous! Can't wait for my 20 week scan. Really want to know if its a boy or a girl, I can't stand not knowing! I must know everything!!!

Oceanbreeze · 01/10/2010 17:38

Sorry you feel a bit crap niamh I've resigned myself to looking podgy rather than pregnant for a bit. Anyway hope you feel better soon.

I've been thinking about the flu jab the last few days, and although I'm reluctant to take anything while preggers, I think I'll probably have it if offered too.

I've also been thinking about splashing out on a new coat. Seeing as the weather has been rubbish all week, it's started me thinking. And there have been a few threads on it recently, but am still undecided. Not sure I want to spend loads of cash on a coat I'll only use this year, when it could go towards the mounting baby expenses, but on the other hand, am gonna be at my biggest, when the weather is coldest. Mmmm. And brrrr. Think I'm gonna look around for a cheapie.

Welcome katster Smile

jammiedodger2 · 01/10/2010 17:40

Hi Everyone
Purple and Chick, glad things are going well with you at the moment.
Have spent an entire day in my PJ and feeling a bit better. Even did the school run in them, long coat and wellies over the top. very weepy still but no puke yet today and have felt a few 'bubbles' fairly convinced I can distinguish between baby and fart now!
On the plus side with work my HV partner in crime popped in today to check I was ok (she was off yesterday) and give me lots of positive feedback. Also some of my mums seem more excited about the pregnancy than me!
Just about to turn 16 weeks so am moving into my maternity clothes, quite looking forward to it.
I will be having the flu jab if i can get it. Phoned my GP surgery today and they seemed a bit vague!
keep well ladies
jx

sam26oscar · 01/10/2010 20:32

evening ladies,

well, i just have to tell you about my heartbeat doppler!!
I bought one from Argos, by Lindham on wed, then read about Angelsounds on internet, so i thought keep the one from argos in original package and buy angelsounds, whichever the best send the opposite one back!!
Well, the argos one was fun as could hear baby moving and kicking but no heartbeat..but it does say 20 weeks on box, so invited friend who is 28 weeks over and unfortunately couldn't hear heartbeat on her, (she had been to midwife that morning so knew all was well),
Angelsounds was delivered this afternoon OH MY GOD its fantastic Grin first time put it on tummy and straight away heard thump thump thump of baby heart!!! Can actually tell difference between heartbeat and whooshing of placenta, money well spent and only £17.99 inc bottle of gel from ebay!! Think you can get it cheaper but i am impatient and got it as buy it now!!

PipPipPip · 02/10/2010 02:03

Hi ladies,

great to hear everyone's news - heartbeats and healthy checkups etc.

I went out to dinner with close friends tonight. I'm the first one in the 'gang' to get pregnant, so I felt very supported/excited when they all wanted to pat my stomach and tell me what daft gifts they plan to buy the baby.

While I've had my teary moments, they are massively outnumbered by 'warm fuzzy' moments like tonight.

Hope you're all going well, and receiving lots of love from your friends, family and partners.

edeluna · 02/10/2010 10:33

Hi, just joining the thread. I'm 16 weeks now, due 17 March and this is my first pg.

All fine so far except for still feeling tired and a little nauseous. Going for my second MW appointment on Monday as well as an appointment with the Obstetrician. Will ask the OB about the swine flu vaccine.

Hope everyone's doing well!

JeelyPiece · 02/10/2010 11:43

1Catherine1 · 02/10/2010 11:52

Thanks JeelyPiece. :)

And thanks for the info Sam, I have thought about getting one but I'm worried I'll become obsessive about it and I'll end up making my self worry when in fact I'm just not using it properly.

JeelyPiece · 02/10/2010 12:01

I think that's a risk with the doppler Catherine. I got an Angel Sounds one and used it succesfully last week but if I hadn't been able to find the heartbeat I think it would have sent me into a panic.

Also have decided to limit it to once a fortnight or so just in case of any effects on the fetus.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 02/10/2010 12:40

Welcome all newcomers - it's amazing how many of us there are!

Just used my Angelsounds again and though I might have been ripped off on Amazon it's still some of the best money I've ever spent - so easy to find heartbeat and so reassuring! Think I'd worry more if it wasn't so clear, so very glad I didn't go to Argos (which being very impatient I'd thought of doing!). Jeely can't believe you have the patience to wait two whole weeks between using it - thought I was doing well at only once every two days!!!! Have not heard it can be damaging but don't want to risk it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend - suspect I will sleep as much as I can (and stock up fridge and freezer with good food for next week...).

PS - has anyone had any very sexual dreams?! I'd read about it but last night was quite eyeopening Blush

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 02/10/2010 13:51

Have just tried to find any really decent information on using Dopplers, safety and frequency but to no avail.

Don't suppose any of our March mums are doctors or midwives?!!? (Or next one of us to see a midwife / dr could ask and report back - my next appt not for two and half weeks...)

JeelyPiece · 02/10/2010 15:12

I couldn't really find anything conclusive either NowPanic, so the advice is generally keep it to a minimum I think if it's not medically necessary.

me23 · 02/10/2010 17:03

nowpanic I'm a student mw in my final year, with dopplers there isn't really anything concrete about frequency and safety, as not much research has done done (same as scans as they botth use ultrasound technology) so we don't actually know how safe they are. However the studies that have been done have not shown any adverse effects though experts do advise not to overuse ultrasound (whatever that means) I also have a doppler and I don't use it more that once a week or even every 2 weeks.

I saw gp yesterday she sent me to have lots of bloods done as my severe exhaustion has not subsided (not preg related started months before pregnancy) so I hope to have answers soon as I'm still off work and do want to go back hate feeling like this she is also going to refer me to endocrinologist.

Larty74 · 03/10/2010 08:05

I am definitely feeling the little monkey now! Grin after a few days of that feeling I'm sure that's it.

JoJoB77 · 03/10/2010 09:48

Morning all!

Don't get to post very often so sorry for the sporadic posting!

Thanks for adding me to the list JeelyPiece (love the name!).

I'm feeling well today, although felt quick sick again on Friday - oh well, can't expect it to stop completely after the magic 12 weeks I guess.

I'm 14+4 today so am one of the later ones on here, I've noticed a lot of you are feeling the little one moving about...I can't wait for that feeling! As it's my first I'm hoping it won't be too long, or am I being too impatient?!

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday (despite the horrible rain booooo) x

Larty74 · 03/10/2010 10:00

I'm nearly 18 wks JoJoB77 but everyone's different!

Miserable day over here as well. Have a sick DH and 2 houseguests to look after! thank goodness for sunday lunch at the pub!

JoJoB77 · 03/10/2010 10:20

I'm only just starting to feel my tummy expanding/getting harder and I'm generally not an impatient person, but it's just all so exciting! I'm sure I will be eating my words when I'm too big to get comfortable/turn over in bed without the help of a winch Grin

I have doctors appointment, first time seeing him as I'm under shared care with him and midwife. Not really sure what to expect but looking forward to it all the same.

I can't believe we are all almost at the halfway mark!

My best friend had her first baby on Friday, so excited to see them, I think I will most probably cry! Can't believe how easy the tears fall these days!
