castlegirl welcome - sorry I can't help (this is my first pg and you'll have read / know as much as me...)

Purple hope the consultant helped explain things and was supportive.

Have just been looking up ante-natal classes. Best friend thinks I've already left it very late (which is v scary - time still seems to be flying by...)

NCT seems the obvious option but I have reservations. Is it really just me that is looking at NCT mainly to meet other mums nearby and objecting to paying £250 to meet people?!?!

Anyone else in the West Brompton, London area?!?! (bit of a long shot but thought I'd try!!).

chickiewoo · 17/09/2010 21:46

Hi castlegirl and welcome! I'm 13 weeks today (due 25 March 2011) and have been bleeding on and off for 10 days - had emergency scan on Monday of this week which confirmed a haematoma beside the gestation sac, which should be nothing to worry about. Having my nuchal scan and Downs blood screening next Monday - so feel reassured that I will have the opportunity to check all is still well. I was very worried when I started to bleed and posted on this thread - if you read back to last weeek you'll see my post and the advice and support I received from fellow MN'ers xx

Purplefan · 17/09/2010 22:20

Thanks ladies,

You are all being wonderful support. Grin We are still completely confused and are overloaded with information!! The condition itself is quite liveable and be no means as difficult as other chromosome difficulties.

The hard facts and figures are 95% of pregnancies with Turners will miscarry in the 1st trimester and this accounts for alot of miscarriages apparently. The remaining 5% (us) continue through to the 2nd trimester and of those pregnancies 60-65% will sponteneously abort right up to term Shock

If she continues and survives pregnancy then she will look and act like most other baby girls - she will be infertile, shorter than average, will have a thicker neck and forehead, but can and will look normal!! There are possible other health problems such as cardiac and kidney problems, but so far these are looking good on our little girl!

We are having more time to digest the information and will be meeting with the genetic counsellor next tues/weds to answer any more of our questions as they arise. We have be no means made a decision on what to do next but are building a picture to make the correct decision for our baby and our family.

I will take next week off work too, so that I can concentrate on the right things and possibly get some sleep.

So, for now ladies, i'm sticking around!!! xx

P.s. Jeffily I am so happy you got good results and that you are not going through this. x

1Catherine1 · 18/09/2010 00:11

You sound a lot less confused this evening than last night (even with your info overload) which is good to see. I had a little research myself this evening to try to understand your situation and my thoughts are with you. I'm sure the next few months are going to be really difficult for you and your OH. I found lots of information on the internet which I'm sure you have already sifted through so I am hoping for the best outcome for you and your family, whatever that might be. x

EvianBaby · 18/09/2010 08:12

purplefan how are you? I've been thinking of you lots. Your meeting with the consultant seemed to go well. I hope you feel better having some facts on how the condition could affect your daughter and potentially the rest of your family. You sound like you're taking a very sensible approach to finding out more and making a decision. My thoughts are with you over the next few days and weeks. Take care x

jeffily · 18/09/2010 13:18

Purple you are so amazing, being able to be happy for me, when you are going through such hard times. I have no idea how I would cope with that kind of news as it's not a straight forward decision at all is it? It must be a very worrying time for you and you sound so grounded and calm! it sounds like you have a very strong baby in there as you have been the 5% to make it this far. Please do stick around and let us know how you are getting on. xxx

mixedmamameansbusiness · 18/09/2010 15:32

afternoon all,

Purple: that was pretty much what I guaged when I looked it up. Glad you are armed with correct info from a consultant now and wishing you and your family the very best next week whilst you think everything thrugh.

RE: Bugaboo.... this is my last baby and I WILL have it this time. It is so tiny. My boys have been quite big actually so not sure if the Bee will last until 3 for me but I do have my McClaren that DS2 is using less and less to fall back on down the line.

me23 · 18/09/2010 16:45

I have just bought a 2nd hand bugaboo cameleon I love it! I would reccommend buying 2nd hand there is no way I would or could spend over £700 on a buggy.

Jupiter118 · 18/09/2010 22:37

Lozario · 19/09/2010 09:24

Morning all-

posting from my iPhone from bed as DH has taken DS downstairs so I can have my tea and breakfast in peace!

purplefan thinking of you, you seem to be getting your head around it all and arming yourself with information, knowledge is power and all that, which is really positive.

am988 in both my pregnancies now I've been desperately thirsty all the time, it's v annoying in the evening as every drop I drink I know is going to be waking me up in the middle of the night!!

As for time going fast, the first 3 months seems to have gone quickly but I think that's because I've got DS1 to look after and I've been so sick that it's gone in a haze. But now I think, ANOTHER SIX MONTHS???!! You've got to be KIDDING!!!!!

I remember with DS1 the first 3 months went much more slowly though.

clucky I feel like I've been at the beginning of a cold for a week or so now! It's gross isn't it. As for the dry heaving, I'm beginning to think this will be a permanent feature... (of this pregnancy, not my life - I hope??!)

Is anyone else really dreading the birth after a bad experience previously? DS1 took 40 hours, was in distress most of the delivery and blue once he was out, had to be recussitated (sp!). People say your second is easier but I'm already dreading it - I might look into that hypnobirth stuff to try and be calmer and it.

Meanwhile I'll just cross my fingers that my placenta stays low and a get a c-section!! ;-)

hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

Toota · 19/09/2010 10:43

NowPanicAndFreakOut: Late for NCT? Yikes! me too then.

Does seem like a lot to spend.

Have heard good things though. Someone I know has 4 kids and said that the most useful thing was knowing what the consequences are of taking different options are - i.e. you do X and it means you go down Y path. Maybe that sounds basic but I thought it was interesting.

A lot of people I know have had babies lately and all had good things to say about NCT...

On plus side money-wise - does everyone know about the £190 we can get from the government as a one off payment? I read about it on the Which? website but there's info on direct gov website.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 19/09/2010 11:10

Toota I've not heard great things but guess every branch (and every woman's expectations) are different. I've emailed two that cover my postcode and neither has replied... Best friend has quoted a number of friends whove missed out on local branch as didn't book until 3-4 months - whoops!

I hate the fact that a) you are "expected" to do it first time at least and b) they are "all about" including the father - luckily my DH is v supportive but working 4,000 miles away (back permanently just in time for birth so fingers crossed im not early Hmm) so unless he can NCT by Skype it'll be me and my mum Wink. Having read their blurb I really do wonder what single mums are supposed to do.

jeffily · 19/09/2010 11:54

toota have been doing my research about the Health in Pregnancy grant (as money is pretty tight and I really want to get it!) and it is being cancelled from April 2011, so we will get it but will prob be amoungst the last to. I have heard that some MW's are reluctant to give out the forms though- can;t imagine why, so you might need to ask yours for it. They have to sign it once you are 24 weeks, and then the money is in your bank within a week, I believe.

As for NCT- we had decided not to do it in both of our prev pregnancies- far too tight to pay that much money for it! I have thought that it was a bit of a shame since though, as people who I have met who did it seem to have a lovely, close group of friends from it. But then I have met others who said that they found it all a bit 'competitive' (ie isn't he sitting up yet, oh, mine has been since he was 3 days old...) and others have said they just didn't meet anyone they really clicked with. I guess it is a bit of pot luck. If you have the money to spare, then it might be a good idea especially if you don't already know any parents in your area.

Hoping that the time is passing ok for you Purple. xx

polkadottytotty · 19/09/2010 12:03

Hello all

Yes, I am also suffering from blocked nose, itchy nose, blocked ears etc.....
I've also got a really tight jaw on one side today - not sure if thats related.

We should all def get the £190 grant according to my midwife - I thought it had been cut immediately by new government so was really pleased. Apparently if you are 25 weeks by the 1st Jan then you are eligible. Will be very handy here also.

Regarding the NCT - I've never been tempted to join or do any of there classes, although I have been to lots of their Nearly New sales which are very useful - I've had bags of stuff for my boys from them over the years, so definitely worth a look if ther is one near you.

Muser · 19/09/2010 12:19

Hi all. I'm back from holidays. Hope you're all doing ok.

OP posts:
mixedmamameansbusiness · 19/09/2010 12:43

Morning all

I have never been to NCT but did go to the community ante natal classes which seemed to cover everything. A few of the women I did come across in mum and bby groups but I didnt really gel with them, however I have one friend that I met up with after and our sons actually went to the same nursery etc so I think NCT is a good way to meet people but there are many ways to meet people. Once you have baby mums will be everywhere.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 19/09/2010 12:44

oh and my MW mentioned the £190 to me on my booking appointment so good to know she wont have a problem giving me the form.

Lozario · 19/09/2010 13:06

RE: NCT - I did it for my first and glad I did as was really lucky with a wonderful group, I count a couple as two of my closest friends now. However in my experience the teacher was VERY pro-breastfeeding and anti- epidurals - her face was a picture when we had our reunion and all told our "and then we got the epidural" stories! Luckily I was ok breastfeeding but if I'd had problems and had to stop early then I can imagine the teachers emphasis on breastfeeding would have made me feel quite crap.

So all in all I think it's down to luck really, with the teacher and the group as a whole; probably best to see if you can ask anyone who has done it in your area for their experiences?

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 19/09/2010 18:02

Lozario I'd also heard that from a couple of friends - one of whom had major problems bf-ing and was made to feel like a non-caring piece of scum. I really hope I can but if not am not going to make myself and new dc miserable by beating myself up over it.

Am also still worried about turning up alone / with my mum Blush - has anyone else tried not taking the father for any reason?

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 19/09/2010 18:04

Ps - yes to blocked nose and ears - though OMG am I glad hayfever is over Smile

spilttheteaagain · 19/09/2010 19:57

Hello all, sorry to hear about all these stuffed noses. Nightimes are a misery aren't they?

Between work and pregnancy I feel like I am being killed by inches.... I have NEVER experienced tiredness like it. All I can say is I hope I am genuinely having a tough time and that the newborn stage will be easier! At least post birth my hips aching shouldn't wake me every 2 hours and make getting back to sleep a torment.

I am sick of listening to myself moan. Poor DH Blush

We went to a homebirth group yesterday which was really good, saw a birth pool etc. Then some folks turned up with their newborns to talk about their homebirths and I had one of those weird moments when I realised all this pregnancy, all this birth planning and getting informed, thinking about the medical side of it, pain management etc and I hadn't quite cottoned on to the fact that it's all about getting a BABY at the end. Forgot that little detail!

niamh29 · 20/09/2010 12:36

I decided to take a duvet day today, between work and looking after my 2 DD's I'm just at the end of my tether, I'm tired and although the ms is coming to an end I still feel crappy. Over the weekend I was very snappy at DH and I feel bad cause I know he misses the bubbly me but all I want is a bit of sympathy and for someone to tell me to sit down and have a rest (they never do)

Anyway, enough moaning, I'm going to enjoy my day and relax and take it easy today!

I'm suffering from what I call "pregnancy nose" aswell, all stuffy and very sneezy, it eases as the pregnancy goes on though and it's just a minor irritation really!

On Friday and Saturday I had a horrible achy feeling in my lower stomach and my lower back, it was quite sore and felt like period pain, I wasn't expecting to have stretching pains as this is no 3, maybe I just needed a rest cause it's gone now, anyone else experienced this?

Lozario · 20/09/2010 13:34

niamh I experienced lower abdomen and back pain about a month ago, ignored it as regular preggo weirdness and it turned out to to be a kidney infection -have you any other symptoms? I got VERY sick with it (beyond my regular ms...) but if you're better now then maybe it's sorted itself out. Are you drinking lots of water? I wasn't drinking enough but it's hard enough with one dc, must be totally impossible with 2dcs!!!

PS sit down and have a rest ;-)

niamh29 · 20/09/2010 15:12

Thanks Lozario, I did think of that but the aches eased off Saturday evening and haven't returned. I do drink
Plenty of water when preg as I get dehydrated easier. Hopefully they wont be back!

jammiedodger2 · 20/09/2010 22:08

Ok so I think i might be losing it! I feel a bit bad posting as there are some peeps on here going thro genuinely tough times but here goes.

  1. I am exhausted, I'm 14 weeks, i'm not running round after a toddler (dd10, ds6)I only work part time in a non-physical job, why am I still tired.
  2. I don't want to go to work tommorrow as I have a day of tricky clients (i'm a HV (ducks)) and my staff nurse is being mean to me since she found out I am pregnant. I am supposed to be her boss but I've always taken a fairly 'we're all part of a team' approach, and she's about 20 years older than me. I should be able to deal with it but hey I don't seem to be!
  3. My husband ate the last eggs tonight and I was going to use them for dinner tomorrow.

I honestly just feel like crying.
v.v. silly but there we are, I hoping it's the hormones
