haloflo I think I'm feeling the same as you tbh. I've told work and close friends and family but I opened up facebook to let the world know and decided against it. I am also 13+1 so maybe we will feel ready about the same time :)

sittinghippo If I had them I would do too! BARGAIN!

My scan today was amazing. Once I got passed the mega stress out I had when I spent 20 minutes looking for a parking spot. I looked at the screen not expecting to be able to make anything out and immediately I saw the whole body and saw its little arms moving and it wriggling around constantly. The woman doing the scan shown us its brain and for a moment I swear I saw its little foot and toes!! It has made it all feel more real for me. However... I wasn't quite prepared for how hard the woman was going to press with that thing, does anyone else think it was painful or am I just a big baby?

spilttheteaagain · 13/09/2010 18:55

Congratulations chickie that's fantastic news! Smile You must be so thrilled.

Catherine great news on your scan. It's amazing what you can see, and how wriggly they are!

I too am quite shy of telling people still (16+3 today!). I've let a few people at work know and have told them it's not a secret so hoping the news will get round slowly, but actually I've gone all coy and embarrassed Blush

Will wait until after the 20 week scan to tell a whole load of old friends who I don't see very much. Scan date is 07/10/2010 when I'll be 19+6.

Like others, I'm struggling with terrible headaches and complete knackeredness, and to be honest, happy as I am to be having a baby, I really hate being pregnant Sad. I am ready to bloom please! I am sick of feeling shit in one way or another now.

sittinghippo · 13/09/2010 20:12

spiltthetea I get embarrassed telling people too. It's like telling your boss or your nan: "I'm not a virgin!!! I've had SEX!!"

Grin
spilttheteaagain · 13/09/2010 21:19

Well quite hippo, and not just that but I have merrily had vast amounts of unprotected sex BlushBlushBlush!

sam26oscar · 13/09/2010 22:34

is'nt it worse telling your dad though!!!??? I mean he's your dad and you're his little girl ( at 40 Hmm)and your'e telling him you've has sex, that was possibly the most cringey person i had to tell, and its DC2!!!!

PipPipPip · 13/09/2010 22:48

Did anyone watch Cherry Has A Baby on BBC3 tonight?

I thought it was great - especially for first-timers like me.

If you saw it, what did you think?

Kagey · 14/09/2010 12:19

Pip I watched it and was quite moved by it all. Bless the presenter, I agree with her thoughts - did it hurt? yes, would I do it again? maybe (with a smile). Fair play to the girl who went through labour without pain relief ( I was a big girls blouse and went for lots of pain relief).

Chickie I am so pleased for you and your baby - that is excellent news!

StrangewaysHereICome · 14/09/2010 13:44

spilt you made me laugh! I cringed when my daughter ran over to her headmistress to say mummy had a baby in her tummy! I was so embarrassed I went bright red. As a 35 year old married woman it shouldn't be a surprise that I occassionally have sex, but admitting that to a teacher in the playground!! (Maybe I have some unresolved issues with teachers from my childhood!!)

polkadottytotty · 14/09/2010 19:38

Hello all

Went back to work last week, so havn't had as much time to get on here. Finally caught up with all the news, I think.

I'm so sorry for your news purplefan - I hope you have lots of support, try and keep your chin up.

I'm so pleased for you chickiewoo - you must have been really fearing the worst, so glad you got good news.

Well, I am 15 wks today - just worked out that is approx 38% of the way through (I'm a maths teacher and find myself working out lots of silly statistics). I'm feeling much better - more energy and a lot less naseous, although it still creeps up occasionally. I have a huge bump - it really is quite obvious - I dread to think what it will be like by 40 wks Shock. Both my boys were 9 pounders so I'm hoping that this one isn't going to be too big!

We have decided to find out the sex - although here in Shropshire they won't tell you at the 20wk scan (you have to pay £50 for an extra scan), so we are going to pay for a private one, should we a much nicer experience and they will rebook you in for free if they can't see for any reason. They can do it from 18 weeks onwards - only 3 wks away, yikes!

Anyway, for those of you who are still feeling sick and exhausted, I hope you start feeling better soon.

1Catherine1 · 14/09/2010 21:08

15 weeks and already showing?!! I do hope you weren't trying to keep it quiet :)

A woman I know suggested I was showing yesterday (13w+1) and I got rather defensive since I'm not showing at all. That was just the way my weight seems to have redistributed itself over the past few weeks, I was quite offended. I was also surprised since she is quite a large lady herself and would have expected her to be slightly more sensitive.

Do many areas refuse to tell you the sex? How do you find out if you have to pay extra or not? My midwife told me I could find out at my 20 week scan so I'm assuming that I don't have to pay. Seems a tad unfair that some people have to pay and others don't. Dam NHS!

polkadottytotty · 14/09/2010 21:21

I wasn't trying to keep it quiet catherine - good job really! It is my 3rd - apparently you show much earlier with subsequent pregnancies.

I think you would know by now if your area don't reveal the sex. They used to do it in Shropshire - found out with DS1 6 yrs ago but have sinced changed the policy. I think it's a bit of a money spinner for them tbh - they have had money troubles recently.
Although I can't see many people paying for it (they don't guarantee at the hospital - if baby is in the wrong position its tough) when you can pay an extra £15 to go private, in a much nicer environment, with more time/space - the place I'm going with also give a free 4d sneak peek!

niamh29 · 14/09/2010 21:45

We would like to find out too, we've been told we might be able to find out at my next scan (I'm in Ireland and here as long as there is no problems you have a 12 wk scan and then another at 28-30 wks, after that it gets more frequent) so I know they might not be able to see properly at 28 weeks but I'm going to try anyway! I think sometimes they're lazy about it and say they can't see so then they can't be accused of being wrong!

I'm 13 weeks today! I am still having periods of sickness and tiredness and I'm so over it, I want to be back to my normal perky self, anyone else still feeling crap?

Larty74 · 14/09/2010 21:52

Hi everyone, been a few days since I've been on, but so glad to see some good news esp to chickie Smile.

Went to midwive today and heard a little hearbeat for the first time! almost as good as the scan. For some reason, they didn't turn up the volume there, and I just assumed you only see stuff, not hear. what do I know? very exciting anyway.

So I'm 15 wks and a couple days and w/in the last 2-3 days was feeling some stretching going on,and suddenly today my bump feels like a rock. I'm quite enjoying this as I clearly never was like that before. Smile
Anyone else experience this?

Jupiter118 · 14/09/2010 22:15

Great news Chickie Smile and to others with good scan results and heartbeat listenings.

Larty - I am still feeling crap - bit of nausea and overwhelming tiredness. Had headache all weekend to went to GP yesterday - BP fine (nice and low in fact) so she thinks a viral thing and said paracetamol, lots fluid and rest. So stayed off work yesterday and today - yet to decide about tomorrow. So so ready for the blooming bit - can't remember when it started with DC1.

Not really showing yet (13+1), but spare tyre seems to have redistributed itself upwards so look fatter than usual - joy!
Bed is calling.

EvianBaby · 14/09/2010 22:17

Hi everyone

Lovely to hear everyone's updates!

polkadottytotty I'm the same as you bump wise! This is my second child and I can confirm that the bump is so much bigger this time! Grin I'm almost 15 weeks (will be on Thursday) and I'm sure that my bump wasn't this size at 20 weeks last time!!! Confused It's nice, and reassuring, although like you I'm slightly worried what it will be like at 40 weeks! My colleague is having her first baby and is about 4 weeks ahead of me... she has a much smaller bump! Also, keep those statistics coming, I enjoy a countdown!

I saw the consultant yesterday as DS was born by ELSC. It was a traumatic delivery so our main aim is to avoid that this time. We have been offered a VBAC or a planned CS this time. We have agreed to make a decision at 36 weeks. In the meantime this baby's size, position and general well being will be monitored. If there are any indications that he/she needs to be born then a CS will be arranged. As well as the anomaly scan at 20 weeks I will have growth scans at various stages. I am looking forward to the extra opportunities to see the baby!

I had a scan at around 36 weeks last time as my midwife thought the baby was breech and it was amazing! The baby wasn't breech however we saw his face, eyes, lips, toes, fingers and best of all his long hair floating in the amniotic fluid! We knew that the baby was going to have rosebud lips and long hair when he was born and he did!. The sonographer did an excellent job of keeping the baby's sex from us too!

Larty lovely to hear your baby's heartbeat. I am looking forward to hearing my baby's heartbeat for the first time.

I know what some of you mean about being slighly embarrassed telling people... I can still remember how uneasy I felt when pregnant with DS and I took my scan picure to work. The vision of the shy male colleagues I work with gazing at a picture of what is essentially my uterus still haunts me!

This has turned into a bit of an essay, I should go and get nursery clothes sorted for tomorrow. Take care everyone.

Medee · 14/09/2010 22:38

Grampian won't tell you the sex - notices all over the ultrasound dept saying it is policy so don't ask. Not particularly sure why.

I watched Cherry... Pip and really enjoyed it, quite emotional at bits.

sittinghippo · 15/09/2010 09:45

15weeks

Evianbaby lol its all a bit 'icky' isn't, showing photos of your insides to people!!

I too am aiming for VBAC, as DD1 was ELCS due to breech position. really hoping to deliver naturally as I felt a little hard done by...

Only another 25weeks (groan) till I can find out, and what will be will be.
I found a support thread for VBAC

Jupiter I know exactly what you mean, my fatty bits have moved upwards, and people keep telling me how amazing it is that I'm showing, and I usually correct them saying 'no, baby is down here , this bit is just flab!' Blush

polkadotty, catherine niamh I have decided definitely not to find out sex of baby. I didnt last time and was so glad as it turned out, as my DD1 was born by planned C-sect so i knew the date, time, and every detail about how my baby was going to be born, so ultimately the only surprise was when the surgeon shouted 'its the superior sex!'... made me chuckle, even as I was laying on the operating table with my insides on display

I can understand the wanting to know though, this is Baby No. 2 and the temptation to find out this time is massive, but I know if it came to it I would chose to have the surprise on the day. Looking forward to hearing what you all are expecting in the next few weeks then. Smile

Purplefan · 15/09/2010 11:44

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd pop in. Had CVS yesterday in Oxford, it was slightly painful and rather uncomfortable. It didn't help that my placenta is in an awkward position apparently! I came over quite faint and don't think that helped the situation either Hmm

Now it is a waiting game for initial results on Friday.

The information we recieved yesterday was slightly more promising than scan last week, as they measured the fluid at 6.4mm compared to 10mm, although it still gives us odds of 1 in 3! Shock

I am having a resting day today, but there is drilling going on next door which is bloody annoying!!!

Anyway, gr8 news from Chickie I am so pleased that your baby is fine.

Jeffily I am thinking of you too... I hope the amnio was not too painful and that you are also 'resting' whilst waiting for those results... fingers crossed for us both.

Take care all. Will be back in a couple of days with news either way! xx

Purplefan · 15/09/2010 11:45

Oh... and they finally gave me an offical due date as this didn't happen at scan last week!!
19/03/11

nancydrewrocked · 15/09/2010 12:20

Gosh this thread moves quickly...can't keep up!

purplefan glad you had some more encouraging news yesterday. I know how hard it is. DS2 was stillborn due to Downs so I went straight for the CVS with this pregnancy - whilst they did the scan it was noted that the NT was 3.4. So I had a horribly worrying wait for the results which were clear for the three trisomy's.

Whilst going through this I spent some time on the antenatal tests thread and there are several stories of large NT's where everything turned out fine. It has helped me to hear that.

jeffily · 15/09/2010 15:10

Hello All

We had amnio on Monday, wasn't as bad as I had got myself psyched up for, just like a blood test really. We got our initial results this morning- all clear for Down's, patau's, Turner's and Edward's! Grin Grin
So, so pleased and relieved. We have to wait for the full results to be sure we are out of the woods, but it is really good news and am now letting myself believe that we might actually have this baby!

Purple Sorry to hear that you found the CVS painful. I had heard that it was worse than the amnio and that was one of the reasons I decided to wait Blush. Selfish really. I am thinking of you sooo much. It's horrible not knowing, I found this morning really tricky. really hoping that you get good news too.

So I might be about a bit more now! Just waiting for the news to sink in...

emma31177 · 15/09/2010 15:19
