Calling The Viroids - Just Shagging Graduates!

gormers · 13/08/2010 19:57

Just thought I'd start a thread for all those JS graduates, whether a newbie graduate or even if you left us a while ago and are well on your way. Would be good for us to keep in touch, see if we're all staying 'sane'. Grin

Don't know about you ladies, but I am still filled with the overwhelming urge to PIAR (that's POAS for all you older graduates - after you left us we went a little mad and started harnessing the power of the ramekin!) I think once you start the habit it doesn't leave you!

Well, it's good to know that the Just Shagging method works. Even if we did once in a while just cheat a teeny tiny little bit! Wink

nickelbabyhatcher · 08/04/2011 11:31

I'm not looking forward to the first 12-15 weeks being the longest, vallinna
it's a nightmare - I'mtelling people as a matter of course, but not making huge announcements iyswim, but I've got nothing to show for it!
I find I'm telling people first that I'm really, really tired, and some people guess from that alone! Grin
But I feel the need to tell people so they don't think i'm just a lazy lump.

I slept so soundly last night, that when I woke up to DH's first alarm (most annoying at the moment - I hear the first alarm then am awake waiting for the 2nd alarm, just so he's not late to wake up. 10 years he's been doing it, and has never been late up, so why it's suddenly started to worry me, i'll never know! Confused ), I felt like i'd got a monster hangover again
I stirred and said to DH "I've got a massive hangover again. I really must stop drinking" I felt soooo bad. All he did was laugh Hmm

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 08/04/2011 11:35

Sleeping is a hit and miss for me at the moment. Some nights I sleep really well until 6 or 7am and other nights I wake really really early and don't get back to sleep until the birds start to sing. I can manage a couple of hours in the afternoon pretty much at will - well as long as I know DS is looked after watching ceebeebies. I do have a permanently half blocked nose though, so if I'm not snoring I'm not far off it. Fav sleeping position when not on my side is with a pillow under bump and another between my legs, sort of half sprawled on my front. I've also discovered this is a good way to lie while having DH rub my back as I fall asleep Grin

TTL the sooner you get yourself on maternity leave the better by the sounds of it! Good luck with today/tonight.

And Cowboy fingers crossed your washing machine turns up soon. I have to go out this afternoon and I REALLY can't be arsed now. Why do I live somewhere that is all hills?!

takethatlady · 08/04/2011 11:49

Oh no coaaf hills are bastards Grin

Just have to give a paper tomorrow and haven't had time to write it because I had my mum up to stay and had to read loads of PhD applications for a big meeting today (12-4 eek!). It's my own fault - bad planning - but I'm not stressed about it. The paper will be fine, it's just sorting it all out before tomorrow that's the issue!

Hope the washing machine comes soon cowboy :) I wish there was a service you could ring for stuff like this - just text 'milk' to a number and hey presto, milk arrives 10 minutes later ...

Might add that to my maternity occasion wear shop for things I could do on Dragon's Den Grin

cowboylover · 08/04/2011 20:10

Thanks all for understanding my need for milk! Mum finished her shift and called if I needed anything so she arrived with full supplies for the weekend! Smile

Machine arrived at 4 and the did everything so really pleased with so the service and well worth it so didn't feel so grumpy about the weight now I am playing with my new gadget! I really need to get out more Blush

TTL I agree with coaaf, sooner on leave the better, hope you get it all sorted.

Loads of hills here as well so I am hoping for buns of steel and to loose the cankles pushing the pushchair around!

cowboylover · 08/04/2011 20:11

Sorry for the bad grammar and wrong words! Damm phone!

Eskarina · 09/04/2011 08:26

I'm not yet close enough to start looking forward to maternity leave Envy but I'm very relieved to have made it to the Easter holidays. What with bank holidays and the royal wedding we only have to work 2 days in the next 3-and-a-bit weeks.
I've got a bit of energy back, and baby certainly has plenty - I'm being kicked relentlessly, though it does mean that when I don't notice it for a while I start panicking.

We're heading up to Edinburgh for a few days on Tuesday. DH reckons that we'll be taking a train out of town to go hiking in the highlands. I reckon I'll be swanning around cafes and shopping, not carrying a rucksack for miles and miles! (I do actually like walking, but I'm not doing 10 miles at the moment!)

I'm getting very frustrated at trying to get the house sorted out. DH just doesn't get that I want the baby to have a nursery type room, even though it has to be in with us at first. Well, I think he's accepted that bit, but not why I want it to be ready before the baby needs it to sleep in over night. Nor why I want to get it sorted soonish before I get enormous and knackered. We have 3 bedrooms so it should be simple, but it involves knocking a built in wardrobe out of the middle sized room so that we can fit a desk in there as well as the futon (with my family living so far away we feel we ought to retain the ability to have overnight guests - or perhaps it would be wiser not to!)
But then maybe he's just taking after his father (heaven forbid) who "didn't get around" to sorting out their spare room so that DH and his sister could have separate bedrooms - they shared until DH went to uni Shock. Apparently he promised for at least 10 years, but it never happened. No way that's happening here.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 10/04/2011 18:59

Meant to say, for those of you who know you're having wee girls M&S had some lovely girls clothes in this week. Lots of non pink to choose from.

slightly Envy here yes. Only 10 weeks left before I find out though. Grin

vallinnapod · 10/04/2011 20:39

LOL COAAF - I relented and bought some very cute onesies from Gap today...I did stick to my limit of 4 (well, 4 items - one was a multi pack!) and I did have a 30% off voucher!

Is anyone on here thinking of using (or already using/used) reusable nappies. I would have been disposable all the way until a conversation with a new mummy friend of mine. Just wondered if anyone else had an opinion?

GL with the DIY Esk!!

Eskarina · 10/04/2011 20:45

I'm definitely in the reusable camp Vallinna. There are so many pretty ones out there (not the reason for using!) and I'm getting quite carried away with investigating them on ebay and similar places, although I'd really like a full set of Bumgenius including their funky artist prints. Cost £££ though and if I don't get on with them it's a lot of money to waste.

DIY hasn't happened but I did get DH to agree to throw away his collection of polystyrene ("but it might come in useful one day!) and empty boxes (ditto!) so progress was made.

takethatlady · 11/04/2011 09:00

Grin esk at the DIY effort. Sounds like our house :)

I was going to ask the same thing about reusables. Worked out we'll easily be spending £30-40 a month on nappies so reusables, no matter how expensive they are as an initial outlay, will be cheaper. vallinna what did your friend say?

Have no idea about which ones are good, but am just about to google bumgenius Grin

Have had an amazing weekend in the sunshine with DH without the threat of a seminar on Judith bleedin' Butler on Monday, and am working from home for weeks now, with DH on Easter hols too. Did make the mistake of going for about a 3 mile walk though (with pub lunch in the middle) - it totally knackered me! Plus on Saturday I woke up and stretched my leg and pulled a calf muscle! And the walk made it worse. Weird ...

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 11/04/2011 10:14

There has been some excellent talk on the Due in June thread about reusable nappies. I need to trawl back through all the posts on the last thread and copy it over to a word document. We ended up using disposables for DS for several reasons, but if we can manage the out lay for this one I'd like to give them ago.

Had a crap night sleep because I kept semi waking up to a lump of pain in my throat. Acid reflux, you've gotta love it! Think I'll be hitting the gaviscon hard today.

Well done getting DH to bin the polystyrene Esk.

frakyouveryverymuch · 11/04/2011 10:24

We're definitely going reusable. Have a dozen terries and a set of motherease. Also got a sample bumgenius which I quite like the look of and planning to buy a bulk lot of various types secondhand from a MNer.

I think the best thing is to beg/borrow/buy a limited number to try and see how you get on. Then invest in what you like. They have advantages and disadvantages and you won't know what works best for you until you try really.

I'm so bored with being pregnant! Just want this baby to arrive now :)

nickelbaalamb · 11/04/2011 10:27

God, totally understand the sleep problem!
I finally got to sleep sometimes after midnight last night, but was awake again at 3ish, and could NOT get back to sleep!
then stuff about the Church Magazine (which has fallen to me to produce) was going round in my head, stoppping me ffrom sleeping, so I ended up getting up, going to the bathroom and writing notes of all that was bothering me!
Then Sebastian (cat) was purring and following me round, then I went back to bed and he started mewing outside the door!
Finally got back off to sleep and woke again at 6 ish. then 7 ish.
then couldn't wak up when it was proper time.

I now feel like a zombie.

nickelbaalamb · 11/04/2011 10:29

Esk - i've told DH I want the whole house decorating before the baby comes!
seriously, when I moved in, we did one wall - mainly because we moved furniture around in the living room, and made space for my books, so we painted the wall (it had had a full sized electric fireplace there, so the wall looked pretty bad)

the rest of the house was decorated about 16years ago! Shock

don't want to wallpaper, just paint.

vallinnapod · 11/04/2011 10:37

That's my thought too Esk - awful lot of money wasted if I don't like them but tonnes saved if I do!

A couple of sites (My Fave) do trial packs but you only get 4 nappies in them - I will have to check with my friend as that does not seem enough unless 3 out of 4 changes you just switch out the lining? Oh the Confused! Check out your local council's website though as lots offer a reusable nappy voucher (mine is a hefty £54.15!) TTL my friend said a lot is personal preference so get several brand to try (which make me think even more you must just switch out the lining on the majority of changes) - she said she would send me a comprehensive email so will paste it here when she does.

Nickel I had massive sleep issues at your stage of PG - with me it was down to all the drugs still but I feel your pain!

I am stressing here as now worried I am not feeling the bub move - again still can't be 100% sure I have felt it yet so am probably being silly. The hair loss is now making me :( :( It's really thin at the front. Had a blood test on Friday but of course have to wait 5 working days for the results. Self-medicating and upped myself to 2 Spatone's a day...

frakyouveryverymuch · 11/04/2011 11:17

You will need to switch more than the liner - wet soaks right through a fleece or paper liner. You don't need to change the outer wrap (if using a 2 part system) every change.

Check out the reusables for sale section on here. You can get some good deals from people selling off their stash!

cowboylover · 11/04/2011 12:24

Thanks COAAF nice non pink is hard to find! I think I have a gift voucher somewhere around here as well.

Esk My DH was the same but I had to be a bit naughty; he's a real tiqdy freak so I just started buying baby stuff and stacked it in the corner of the lounge saying it can go upstairs when the room is done and hey presto 2 weeks later and the nursery is looking lush!

Can't believe the sun has gone today just as my new Next delivery came with nice summer clothes

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 11/04/2011 15:10

Hi viroids! Back at work this afternoon after my '12' week scan this morning (actually 13 weeks)... nice to see LO again, though a bit freaky when he/she kept turning its head towards us on the screen! Wouldn't co-operate though, despite lots of jiggling and bouncing up and down, was determined to have a snooze Wink, so she couldn't take the NT measurement. Will have to wait for 16 week MW appt for the blood test instead. Hmm

Doesn't feel so long now to the next lot of appointments (MW and 20 week scan) Grin

How are all the viroids today?

vallinnapod · 11/04/2011 15:36

Katee the 20 weeks scan is an aaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggggggeeeeeeeeeeeee away Wink I had my 12 week at 12+3 and my 20 week is at 22+3. DYING of impatience - so much so had the gender scan in between and, err, may have booked a wellbeing one for Thursday as worried that I may/may not have felt him move...I am a sonographers cash cow!

Glad it was really nice and you got to see bub - all be it not cooperative!!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 11/04/2011 15:55

Frak that's a good sign that things are getting close to the end. You really are near the end now aren't you. Very excited for you (and refraining from coming on here on a daily basis to ask if you've popped yet BlushGrin)

Nickel my family used to have a cat named sebastian! (middle name Fluffybum).

Well unless something goes horribly horribly wrong with our credit check, we have a house to move into this weekend!!! YAY and PHEW! DH is still a bit err about it all, but once we've moved he'll start to feel better (I hope). One happy Viroid here.

frakyouveryverymuch · 11/04/2011 16:06

39+2 so potentially a way to go yet!

Fab news about the house coaaf. Will be keeping fingers crossed for you!

Grin at all the scanning activity. It feels like forever between appointments so I don't blame you vallinna! shame your little one wasn't more cooperative katee - the sonographer at our 13 week scan kept prodding me in the bladder to get it to jump. It likes to sleep through scans....

Fab news on the nursery cowboy.

Eskarina · 11/04/2011 17:25

Will go back and read properly in a minute but wanted to write down thoughts about nappies whilst they're in my head - am getting serious pregnancy brain!
I've been collecting a few "pre-loved" (sounds much better than used!) nappies for a little while - got my free sample BG from the bounty mag, and I have a few Bamboozles and Cotton Tots (from Tots-Bots). Obviously I've no idea if these are any good, but the Tots Bots ones are what a friend recommends so I thought they were worth a go. I got 5 from the NCT sale for £10 then another 10 from ebay for £18 so I've nearly got enough and have hardly spent anything so if they're no good I'll just sell them on again.

I've been keeping an eye on Cloth Nappy Tree and Used Nappies and there seems to be a huge variety of things coming through. There's not much traffic on the MN for sale board sadly. Also the ladies over on Cloth Nappy Tree are super-knoweldgeable about all things nappy related (once you get over them referring to their nappies as their "stash" of "fluff").

Oh and for those who like really pretty things and don't mind the cost check out Wee Notions nappies. I want my baby NOW just so I can have an excuse to try them!

Back in a mo when I've read the rest of the thread!

Eskarina · 11/04/2011 17:53

Thanks for all the good wishes on the DIY. We actually made progress today - DH made progress on whatever it is he's doing to the electrics in the kitchen and finally showed me how to use the stripper to clear the artex off the walls and I got quite a long way. It should be illegal to put that stuff on the walls of a house, even if you own it! Especially if you're going to give it a wavy, spiky texture then paint it teracotta. At least if the next owners of our house disagree with my tasteful off-white walls they can paint over them with minimum hassle!

Val I'm loving your scan addiction! Though I quite understand concern if baby doesn't move for a while. It's cheaper to go to the mw and get her to listen to the heartbeat though Grin. Congrats on your scan Katee. Sorry your LO wouldn't perform. Our's was a real pain at our 20 week scan, think the sonographer was getting quite fed up. I'm surprised they're not offering to rescan you another day to see if they can get a better view. I'm quite sad that now I've had the 20 week one I don't get another unless there's something wrong or until I convince DH we need the gender scan.

Frak 39+2 sounds so close! I'm Envy. I never came back to say that my friend finally had her baby by c-section on Tuesday after being induced on Saturday. That's a long time [please-don't-let-that-happen-to-me-emoticon]. She's fine now but was completely worn out for days afterwards.

We're going on holiday tomorrow - 4 days in Edinburgh. I want the sun back . We're going on the train so I'm going to have to carry everything I need in a rucksack. Summer clothes are so much lighter than warm ones. Oh well. As long as there's space in the bag for my knitting - am making a blanket for my friend's LO, due next month, so I figure 10 hours on a train should help its progress on nicely. May or may not be able to keep in touch, depends if DH lets me near his iPhone!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 11/04/2011 18:37

A bit Envy of your Edinburgh trip Esk. I love it over there yet despite it being so close hardly go. Think the closet I'll be getting is Falkirk sometime in the next 2 days (because that's where my nearest MC is and the Argos has the stroller I want - our Argos is out of stock). Oh so not that exciting!

deemented · 11/04/2011 18:40

Just to say its over for me. I miscarried last night.

Hope everyone goes on to have happy healthy pregnancies and babies.
