Calling The Viroids - Just Shagging Graduates!

1002 replies

gormers · 13/08/2010 19:57

Just thought I'd start a thread for all those JS graduates, whether a newbie graduate or even if you left us a while ago and are well on your way. Would be good for us to keep in touch, see if we're all staying 'sane'. Grin

Don't know about you ladies, but I am still filled with the overwhelming urge to PIAR (that's POAS for all you older graduates - after you left us we went a little mad and started harnessing the power of the ramekin!) I think once you start the habit it doesn't leave you!

Well, it's good to know that the Just Shagging method works. Even if we did once in a while just cheat a teeny tiny little bit! Wink

G'wan then - i'd love to see what you bought.

The only thing i need for this baby is...

A bouncy chair
And i need to get a double pram as i sold my old one.

Thats it i think. Kept mostky everything else from DS3.

I've been so nauseous this morning. Felt awful on the school run, and am currently trying to convince myself that i really don't want to see my breakfast again.

deemented · 07/03/2011 10:47

That's quite a list! Did you buy everything on it??

BrassicaBabe · 07/03/2011 11:19

Not quite. I've not done alot of bedding yet as I don't know what cots we are going to buy/borrow and I've not done anything until the "You" heading. But apart from that, I'm nearly done. Grin

deemented · 07/03/2011 11:32

Can i suggest a couple of things?

Firstly - don't buy sanitary pads - do buy proper maternity ones, at least for the first couple of weeks after birth - Sanitary pads are designed to draw fluid away quickly and that could cause problems if you were to become ill. Also the dryweave that most seem to have nowadays can snag on stitches if you have any.

I really wouldn't bother with nappy bin and liners - you used to get a voucher from Bounty in your pack that you can exchange in Argos for a nappy bin - don't know if they still do them, but i had one with DD who's nearly three and it was crap.

One thing i would suggest is a plastic bath support - great for putting baby in and having hands free to wash them with. Also avoids the soapy baby dropsies Grin

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 07/03/2011 12:13

Am I a bad Mum? I only had about half of what BB has on her shopping list for DS! We just didn't have the funds (or expert advise).
I second Dee on the maternity pad thing. May I also add to your list rain cover for pram if it doesn't come with one.
Also I've been told be someone in the know that not putting water in the nappy bucket makes it stink less than if you soaked them in water (if using cloth nappies).

Just found out a good friend is having her second in September. That probably explains the cheerfulness actually Grin

deemented · 07/03/2011 12:27

You aren't a bad mum at all Smile

Just MHO, but with your first you tend to want everything. I'm on number five now and have more of an idea of what i actually need, and what i'd like - but those lists aren't always mutually exclusieve Smile Have you troied NCT sales, NMCB? I mainly buy my dc's clothes from there - all good quality and cheap prices. They are great for the bigger bits too - when i had dd i bought loads of newborn and 0-3 vests and babygros, blankets, socks, cardis etc for less than £15!

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 07/03/2011 12:41

I have a towelling bath support - much prefer them to plastic ones as they're less slippy!

Only get a nappy bin if you're getting one of those fancy ones which wraps it all up for you. I'd also say sod the bottle warmer tbh.

Definitely loving the Baby Bjorn bouncer and second the recommendation for dry pailing reusables.

Add gripe water to the list - it can be a lifesaver and I much prefer it to infacol.

I have:

Carseat
Pushchair (with raincover and mozzie net)
2 x slings
Cot and mattress
3x fitted sheets
2x sleeping bags
2x swaddling sheets
2x baby towels
Towelling bath support
scads of muslins squares (including the little top and tail ones)
Waterproof undersheets
Baby Bjorn bouncer
Nursing cushion (which magically turns into a nest for baby with a little arch)
Assorted clothes
Changing mat
Assorted reusable nappies + 4 packs disposables
Nappy bucket and nappisan
Baby in-ear thermometer

Bottles
Microwave steriliser
Dummies
Not got a breast pump yet
(I plan to express from about 2 weeks)
Gripe water
A box of Hipp organic (no 24 hour supermarkets where I live, or organic formula for that matter!)
Nipple shields
Lansinoh
Breast pads (disposable and lillypadz)
Throwaway knickers
Maternity/sanitary pads

Some of it's on order. I need to get some storage boxes to put baby stuff in but other than that we're pretty good I think...

takethatlady · 07/03/2011 12:56

Woooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh ....

Oh my God that's a hell of a lot of stuff bb and others Grin

Also we need a Shock and pain emoticon ... still wincing from dryweave snagging ....

I may just go and bury myself in that chocolate cheesecake now. Really really sorry it didn't work out for you this time knockedout :( - I know how that feels and it is really really crappy. I'm sure you'll be back here in no time.

My list of things we have now bought now looks even more pitiful:

  1. A baby bouncer
  2. Two soft toys
  3. One babygro
  4. A cot, wardrobe and dressing-table-changer
  5. A changing mat
  6. Two towel things that are supposed to go with the changing mat but have velcro on them that doesn't seem to attach anywhere ...

That is it. I am pinning a hell of a lot of hope on the NCT sale in 2 weeks' time!

BrassicaBabe · 07/03/2011 13:24

5th baby dee? Wow! Grin

It was indeed a utopian list from my sister. She was living in a one bed flat when she had her first and didn't have half that stuff. And I haven't indicated everything on that list I've not bothered with (nappy bin Grin)

I bought a whole load from that list second hand via a colleague who had twins and picked up loads of stuff at Adsa "value range".

I did buy 2 plastic bath supports Smile I think they are the only way I'd be able to bath twins without a second pair of hands being available each time Hmm But at a tenner each I didn't feel too cheated...for a change.

Dryweave snagging?! Shock Blocking that from my mind for evermore! Grin

I think I was getting a little panicky after hearing so many stories that twins are always early and that I hadn't done any preparation at all.

takethatlady · 07/03/2011 16:54

bb you done good :) And I definitely think it's better to be prepared! (I'm just not doing it very well Grin)

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 07/03/2011 17:32

Do you know what. It doesn't matter how prepared or unprepared you are. Once the baby/s arrives you just get on and do because there is nothing else you can do. Grin

I now have an irrational urge to list everything I've bought for current bun. Which is silly really.

It's funny you feel so unprepared TTL, you're aleady calling your bump by her name!

I think there is a local NCT sale next weekend, shall have to try and convince DH to go along Wink

vallinnapod · 07/03/2011 17:42

I came on here earlier, saw the epic list, and ran away Grin I am a lover of lists and planning and am glad I hadn't got to that stage as I would have freaked myself out! I have:

*Cotbed

...

knockedout am so sorry at your news. I too hope you swiftly return here.

Not much going on here. Spent a long weekend in Cornwall which was lovely. Very relaxing. Had my first pregnancy massage during which I realised I cannot stand people touching me - oopsy!

I am now very inbetweeny. My normal clothes are too tight, but maternity cloths are too big! I don't think I have a bump but the scales say half a stone is somewhere (my bet it my thighs!)

BTW I cannot stop wincing at 'snagging'!!! ARGH!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 07/03/2011 18:19

Can people PLEASE stop typing the word snagging! I do not need to be constantly reminded of a particular, long stitch thread that several MWs commented on before one actually bothered to trim it.

I have: to physically restrain myself everytime a see a really cute girls outfit, because I may have another boy on board and he'll look sill in a dress Blush. This isn't helped by the fact DS is convinced current bun is a girl.

(hmm that nearly fufils

Oh bollocks. I can't spell and I can't type. I'm going to bed.

takethatlady · 07/03/2011 19:05

PMSL at you and your half-cut message nmcb. I do call the bump by its name, but it's the bump and not the baby I'm talking to Grin I don't think there's a baby in there, just a weird-shaped blob on my belly ...

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 07/03/2011 19:48

I didn't go to bed, have been time wasting researching instead. BB you need to add this to your list.

I'm pleased my major brain block brought someone joy TTL. One simple common word nearly had me swearing!

vallinnapod · 07/03/2011 21:07

LOL NMCB I am never going to be able to hear the 'S' word without crossing my legs now! Stitches freak me out anyway, never mind stitches in the vajayjay. Bling that buggy!

Anyone bought from Isabella Oliver? My stash arrived today, which is lovely, although not sure if I should go for the next size up? Feeling a little claustrophobic in clothes any way. They fit 'perfectly' but if I get fatter (as opposed to bumpier) then they may be too tight. Any advice?! Obviously stop eating trash....

Baby2b · 07/03/2011 21:08

Omg, thought I needed a list and now I'm freaking out. I have bought nothing Blush Is 16 weeks too early though?

NervousNelly · 07/03/2011 22:11

Hi Viroids. No I'm not updiffed! But have been stalking you all as normal and miss you all so thought I'd come on and say hi.

I am loving reading all your baby prep, or in fact complete lack of it! I have made the mistake of watching OBEM as OH is away for a few days. Now I'm halfway between really broody, and feeling a bit sorry for you all Grin!

Anyway glad all is well for you all. I weirdly feel a bit of a stranger on the JSing board just now. I have quite a lot of rubbish stuff going on in my life just now, so not being focussing on TTC, and even less so on MN. Sadly managed only one shag in 3 weeks. Must try harder, if I ever want to join you all!!

Will now go back to stalking lurking mode and put my shag-cape back on!

Mwahs all round Grin

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 08/03/2011 04:59

16 weeks is still early. I only began shopping in earnest at 20 because I had a trip back to the UK and I didn't buy anything big until after the anomaly scan.

vallinnapod · 08/03/2011 07:15

B2B I am not buying anything until my 3rd trimester. A little superstitious, a lot to do with space Wink DH bought the corned at 5 weeks PG cos it was a good sales bargain...

nelly hey! Nice to hear from you x

BrassicaBabe · 08/03/2011 09:42

Morning all

Hiya Nelly Lovely to "see" you. Step away from OBEM though! Hope life smoothes itself out for you.

PMSL at the S-word!

B2B don't let us panic you! You've got ages to get yourself sorted.

Grin for NMCBs pram number plates

I've bought some IO stuff vallinna (Feck, I'm sooooo overdrawn!) The straight leg jeans are lovely now. I'm not sure how long they will last though Hmm I bought a size 12 for my usual pre-preg size 12. I can't quite get my head around the work trousers though. I've bought 2 pairs of black trousers, one from M&Ps and one from IO. On both the material is like yoga/gym wear Hmm Not sure they are something I'd want to wear to work.

20 week scan tomorrow folks!!Grin

vallinnapod · 08/03/2011 11:26

Exciting BB!!! And a little Envy of course! My 20 week scan is at 22 weeks Angry Of course I have a private gender scan on 1 April [scan addict emoticon]

I purchased size 10 IO clothes as the size 10 IO trousers I got on eBay were huge. However, if I am honest with myself dresses and tops have always been a 12 for me! I must be the only person to get overly optimistic on the small side of sizing when pregnant!! Any whos...all gone back for a size 12!

PS BB can really recommend the IO work trousers - although at the £20 eBay price rather than the hefty website price!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 08/03/2011 19:05

Ohh excited for you and your scan tomorrow BB.

Vallinna people keep posting links to some really nice maternity clothes sites on the June thread and for some reason they make me think of you... Grin. Being a SAHM I have no excuse/money to buy nice clothes, esp as not wanting planning on having any more kids after this one (yeah ask me how that's going in about 18 months!). I do have a stack of clothes that a friend has given me and appear to be in my size. I just haven't got around to trying them on. Think I may have to play dress up when DS is at playgroup tomorrow. Grin

Lovely to see you Nelly. Hope RL settles down and you can get back to jumping your DH on a regular basis GrinWink

takethatlady · 08/03/2011 21:10

Ah bb you're going to love it. The 20 week scan is the best :)

Hello nervous! We miss you too :) Thanks for popping over! How's josie doing on the other thread? Sorry to hear you've been having a crappy time, but you've got a shag cape and you know how to use it, so you'll be over here soon no doubt Wink Grin

I've just lied to get out of a meeting tomorrow. I was going to have to get the train from Cambridge to Norwich the bus from Norwich to UEA campus, go to 50 minutes of a 2 hour meeting, then get the bus back to the station, get a train from Norwich to London, give a talk in the middle of London from 5.30-7.30, go for dinner, then get the train back to Cambridge. Haven't prepared the talk.

Sod that. Lied, am no longer going to Norwich. Yip yip. Virtual Wine for me. I'm also planning to go sick in two Fridays' time as i'm meant to be teaching Henry James and I haven't read it and I haven't got time to Grin

Pregnancy is making me eat crap and turn into a liar ... I'm not sure I'm going to be a very good mother Smile
