Calling The Viroids - Just Shagging Graduates!

1002 replies

gormers · 13/08/2010 19:57

Just thought I'd start a thread for all those JS graduates, whether a newbie graduate or even if you left us a while ago and are well on your way. Would be good for us to keep in touch, see if we're all staying 'sane'. Grin

Don't know about you ladies, but I am still filled with the overwhelming urge to PIAR (that's POAS for all you older graduates - after you left us we went a little mad and started harnessing the power of the ramekin!) I think once you start the habit it doesn't leave you!

Well, it's good to know that the Just Shagging method works. Even if we did once in a while just cheat a teeny tiny little bit! Wink

Baby2b · 08/03/2011 21:38

Hope things get better for you soon.

ttl I have had a very similar attitude to work lately. I like to call it self preservation rather than lying :) Also, wanted to ask where did you purchase your dresser-changing table? I have a vision of owning a large american style one, but it is probably not needed.

Seen a lady in the street today with the sweet-pea, icandy, peach pram. It looked super cute and sophisticated. Can't wait for pram shopping!

I had my 16 week midwife app today and heard a very strong heartbeat. Really pleased and relieved as the gap between 12 weeks and 20 weeks is too long! Very excited for your 20 week scan tomorrow bb.

Off to bed now as had a bit of a rubbish ms day and can't keep my eyes open (despite 2 hour sleep after work). Didn't manage to keep dinner down, but still managed to eat two pancakes later on though Blush.

gormers · 09/03/2011 11:47

Am with you all on not killing over-doing trying to work as hard as possible. You are all more important than your work, and TTL that journey sounds horrendous so I think you've made the right decision.

Can't believe The List! As a mum to a 7 week old, there is soooooo much that I don't have! Must get in order before she comes home!

Good luck with the scan BB - keep us updated.

HAve a lovely day peeps!

My foofy hurts. Just thought I'd share.

Gormers you're allowed to be completely unprepared for a baby at home.

vallinnapod · 09/03/2011 17:46

NMCB Mine too :( Sharpish crampy pains in what feels like the middle of the 'mound'...good lord, would never have been so descriptive pre-upped-duffedness! Grin In fact quite a bit of cramping and sharpish pains...not much fun but assume it is just everything stretching away. The vajayjay pain goes away when I move around and especially after some pelvic floor exercises.

Gormers makes me Smile to think of you as a Mama. I too think you are fully justified to have bugger all! I am planning on being quite last minute in terms of buying both for space and superstitious reasons.

TTL I have invented a couple of doctors appointments to get the arvo off Blush

BB how did the scan go??

B2B glad your 16 week went well. Have mine on Monday. Desperate to hear the heart beat!

Baby2b · 09/03/2011 20:11

It is really fab Vallinna. The baby didn't like the cold of the dopler though and kept trying to move away from it. :)

I have also had some woowoo discomfort. I have never analysed my body so much!

cowboylover · 09/03/2011 20:42

TTL: I have done that as well and when been feeling lazy or loved up with DH after scans I have called work to say they where running late and I wouldnt be in the after noon. Never seam to be suprised with the NHS tho so should feel bad but I dont!

BrassicaBabe: I am trying to take inspiration from that list so thanks for posting! DH made me laugh when we we where looking at the stuff on the list and we didnt know what swaddling blankets where and DH was horrified at the babies in straight jackets Smile

Last 2 weeks in work and I am realy excited so am planning on spening some time shopping and making a patchwork quilt for the cot.

takethatlady · 10/03/2011 12:13

nmcb mine hurts too, all the time, and walking makes it worse.

I am going to get my hair cut this evening, though, and I want it BLONDE! So this will make up for aching fanjo.

Glad to see you lot are a bunch of slackers too Grin

Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggghhhh about work/home situation though. Made the decision that I don't want to buy a house in some godforsaken town in the middle of nowhere, and have to get a second car, and still have to drive 30 minutes to work, just because DH can't find a job in Norfolk at the moment. Seems like a very permanent solution to what is hopefully only a temporary problem.

Then went to London to give the talk and my old PhD supervisor and my old boss, who both work at a really good London uni now, kept on hinting about how there would be jobs there soon and they'd love to work with me and would I move from UEA etc ... but no promises, and no jobs until September 2012. And I would bloody love to work at this place and in London and now it's making me think we should just stick where we are (in Cambridge) and see how things go.

But that means finding a nursery in Cambridge/near DH's work and me driving off to Norwich 3/4 days a week, which seems like a bonkers plan.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

bb how was the scan?

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 12/03/2011 05:29

Hope everything was okay with the scan, bb

How's the hair, TTL? Re: the commute, how far is your current commute? Would you be able to find a nursery that would cover the hours you need if you have a long commute? Or would you try to arrange your working hours so you could drop off and go in late and DH can go in early and the pick up on time? Don't worry about eating crap - I've been eating terribly :( Tis one of the reasons I've kept up with my antenatal vits!

gormers OMG Shock 7 weeks?!!! How's she doing now?

I've managed not to skive work at all!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 12/03/2011 10:05

Grin even I've managed to skive off work and I'm a SAHM Frakkle

Also hoping all went well at the scan BB

TTL some times a short term bonkers plan is better in the long run if it gives you the time and headspace to make a long term non bonkers, satisfying plan, rather than making an immediate long term plan that is only halfway satisfying.

My lady bits aren't so sore now, instead the pain has moved into the rear so I'm hobbling like an old lady. What a sight! Grin

takethatlady · 12/03/2011 10:58

Thanks nomore, that's what I'm trying to think, though I did a thread about commuting and am Shock at all the marriage breakdowns and other nervous wreckage that people keep talking about on there now! Sorry you were feeling unwell yesterday - are you okay now?

I went shopping for DH's birthday present yesterday and made the mistake of walking about for about 2 hours in high heels. Not only do I have blisters, but I can't really close my legs now. I never knew about this weird painful fanjo business - you never see it on pregnancy symptoms lists! But if I exert myself in any way I am virtually incapacitated for the rest of the day. Going bowling later, then out for drinks with DH and some friends and his sisters - not sure my bits are going to thank me!

gormers how's your LO doing? :)

takethatlady · 12/03/2011 11:01

Oooh sorry snap. I couldn't do the nursery drop offs or pick ups at all as DH would take the baby with him in the total opposite direction to me.

The hair is great, thank you! I'm so pleased! I'm bloonnnnnddddeeee again, instead of paying lots of money to have highlights in the same old mousey brown I was born with. I feel swishy and sexy with my new dresses, high heels and blondeness (I probably actually look like a right old munter though Grin)

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 12/03/2011 23:25

Hello again, I'm back online at last. What have I missed, is everyone okay? I did manage to pick up that gormers had an early baby girl who is full of lust for life - congratulations gormers and welcome to your beautiful daughter

Dynababy · 13/03/2011 18:00

Hi been lurking for a bit since my 20 week scan post. Have to chip in reading the latest that my Fanjo is sorer than ever - feels like have been kicked...getting some comfort from the factthat most viroid Fanjo's seem to be in same nick but not that much Hmm ..walking defo makes it worse for me ..and I now feel like a big lazy whale because I'm avoiding too much exertion!!

B2B glad your 16 week went well..not too long till your 20 week...

TTL poor you with house dilema, do agree though if you might move jobs would seem sensible for the plan to be do nothing for now. Well done you by getting taped up for new swish job at top uni Grin

Cowboy sooo jealous of you starting mat leave so super exciting!! Intrested in your quilt making too, do you have a design? How do you do it?

BB hope your 20 week was OK? Thanks for the list you posted last week, very very useful .... Like you Valinna I'm not going to do too much for a while but to get more organised I've taken the list and found most of what we will need (bar big stuff)on amazon (really good prices) - I've not bought but set up a private wish list only I can see which means when I'm a bit further on (22 weeks now..maybe late twenties??) I'll transfer all from wish list to basket and get it all in one big bundle Grin Can you tell I feel rathe rpleased with self now for getting a bit more organised!!?

Also today went and looked at big stuff which is short for pram, moses basket car seat and gubbins ..went with DH to our local pram centre and as Ithought we might fell in lurrve with the icandy peach (tomato) - got quoted £855 for the pushchair, carrycot, raincovers, cabriofix car seat and adapters which we thought was good deal so went to John Lewis and asked them for the price match .. for some reason I feel more comfotable shelling out that much to JL where I know the customer service is excellent should there be any issues with any of it.. so might get that on order soon if it comes through .. so feeling even more organised now Grin

Oh and we finalised bean's name today .. he will officially be Oscar Alexander (common surname begining with T!) Yay!

Hope you've all had a loverly weekend! Happy Monday when it comes.

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 14/03/2011 12:26

This is turning into confessions of an aching fanjo Grin

vallinnapod · 14/03/2011 12:35

Afternoon ladies!

Had my '16' (actually 15+2) week midwife appointment this morning. All good, I think. Lovely to hear it's heartbeat again! Some protein in my urine but I am CONVINCED I have a mild UTI so that's gone off for a test!

Went for a run this morning, first time in at about 9 weeks. My nipples do not like the cold Grin OMG the pain! Boobs in general would prefer it if I stuck to the cross trainer!

cowboylover · 14/03/2011 13:09

TTL : Glad you are enjoying the new hair, it makes such a difference! I did my hair last weejk and its now black/red instead of my usual/natural gingery red so very different and I love it! Also starting to get a pedicure and massage habbit spending the money I save by not drinking on the weekends.

I love we are in the spirit of JS still with all the honest fanjo talk, I think I am permanently a little swollen Hmm

The Baby shower was brilliant! Yes rollercoaster my boss threw it for me and I was so suprised when I got there. She had a big banner and decorated the whole house in pink and on the coffee table in the lounge we had pink sweets ect and the food was amazing. I came away with a boot full of prezzies and cakes ect. We both ended up having a little cry at the end when she made me promice to come back to work I knew I would in the end!

First day of maternity leave and it feels wierd being home on a Monday.

Has anyone been to Aqua Natal? I have been looking for things to entertain me for the next 9 weeks out of the house.

DH usually has the house to himself alot when hes shifts and im in work so he reminded me this morning that men are like voltures and need time alone so dont stop myself from going out on his behalf, think hes trying to set me up on playdates!

Dyna: I love the name! I think we have decided but still not 100%

My quilt making is rather 'freestyle' I went to the fabric shop and bought 1/2 a meter of loads of different fabrics that I liked chopped some of them up into triangles and squares, sewn them up attached wadding to the back with some cheaper fabric on the back and then did big long lines in checks so now got a crib cover! I am planning more of a design with the bigger cot cover and currently making a template out of grease proof paper before I take scissor to fabric again.

Bunting is awesome to make and really easy apparently so I am looking forward to getting on that later this week Smile

Wow that was long!

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 14/03/2011 13:18

cowboylover I find aquanatal boring Blush and stick to my usual aquaerobics class/fitness schedule as much as possible! I can't believe you're on ML already - very jealous. I have officially 5 working days at the university to go and 2 mornings with the Navy, which is actually harder work!

dyna I can't believe you've decided on a name, I feel woefully underprepared!

TTL high heels! Wow I'm existing in flipflops Blush and have been for at least 6 weeks.

vallinna fingers crossed you don't actually have a UTI but at least if you do then they can do something about it :)

I need to go pick up my blood test results [yawn] but as I have a midwife appointment tomorrow and the lab closes in 40 minutes I really ought to get cracking!

takethatlady · 14/03/2011 14:31

PMSL at 'Confessions of an Aching Fanjo'. I confessed to some never-been-pregnant people the other day and it was way TMI Blush. What would I do without this thread?!

vallinna congrats on your scan (again!) Very Envy of the baby shower cowboy. And especially of the cake. I am quite hungry, actually ...

dynababy lovely name :) Good on you for getting the big stuff sorted out too! All we're doing at the moment is going round and round in circles, unable to buy stuff until we know what we're doing next (and how much money we'll have to spend or not spend tarting up our house) and not buying lots of things! Not exactly been tapped up either :( Just told there will be jobs and I should apply, which means zilch really, since I'd probably apply and someone else would get it and then it would have all been for nothing. On the other hand ... (how many hands have you got!)

On the plus side, I had a brilliant weekend as it was DH's birthday and his sisters came to stay, and then his parents came up yesterday. Over the course of the weekend we went out for lunch, watched DVDs, went out for a night out (one drunk man in the street said 'woah, look at them' and pointed at my breasts Hmm Grin - this never happens to me as I am only a puny old B cup usually), had a barbecue, went shopping, ate loads of birthday cake, went for walks, and played cards. It was great :)

I actually don't want cake, now I think of it. I want wine. I want a pint of wine.

vallinnapod · 14/03/2011 16:02

Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy at Cowboylover for not only being on mat leave but that meaning your so much closer to meeting your bubGrin Loving the arts and crafts....

TTL i want wine so badly. I nearly had a temper tantrum this weekend Blush Was visiting friends from uni and we started playing drinking type games and everyone was getting pedantic over the rules...not fun when you are sober!

LizzyMathsWhizzy · 14/03/2011 16:19

Can I come and join you viroids? I got a BFP or 6 yesterday, and would like to just put one foot in the grads thread. I had a MC less than a month ago, so I'm sort of telling the internet I intend to stay pregnant until November! I don't have an aching fanjo though, is that an entry requirement? I'm puking a lot if that will make up for it in some way? I don't recognise any names from the conception thread so far, did I meet any of you?

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 14/03/2011 18:04

Waves enthusiastically at Lizzy Hello and lots of sticky stuff your way. Grin Donb't worry the achy fanjo comes later, throwing up is exactly where you belong. Think you must be a recent viroid, we haven't had many grads recently, though deemented is around here somewhere.

Ohh Coyboy I keep thinking I should pull my sewing machine out and get creative for LO. I don't know the sex though and really want to make something girly (have some lovely material). Have been thinking of getting some white onsies and painting them with cute pics though...

I'm making risotto for dinner tonight. I get to have a whole mouthful of wine to finish the bottle off Grin First alcohol since my BFP so I'll be on the floor haha.

I'm quite liking the name Daisy if current bun turns out to be a girl. I keep thinking about it (when I'm not thinking about food or dreaming about booze)

vallinnapod · 15/03/2011 21:26

OMG theartistformerlyknownasNMCB I LOVE the name change!!

Lizzy, I think I am the 'newest' grad from the conception thread and I am now 15+2! It went a bit quite! You were clearly a lucky one who didn't have to hang there too long.

I keep going to have a sip of wine and then think it's been SOOOOOOOOOOO long now, I may just leave it. Although I want no one to hold me to that!! I turn 30 two months today and it's out wedding anniversary at the beginning of May

vallinnapod · 15/03/2011 22:05

Preg brain, turn 30 on 14 not 15 Confused

Some advice please ladies, what are you finding better fitting and more comfortable, side panel maternity trousers/jeans or over the bump? I need to buy some jeans but and really inbetweeny. Can no longer fit into my normal clothes but mat trousers STILL too big. I have over the bump work trousers and they are just not hugely flattering at the moment as they puff out at the hips (just what I need...!) Interested to hear your views!

Eskarina · 15/03/2011 22:18

Hi all, sorry I've been quiet for a while. Not a lot happening in Eskworld. I had my 16 week mw appointment a couple of weeks ago, heard heartbeat and mw reckons squig is "growing nicely". Now, does that mean I should be reassured that it is doing well, or was it in fact a hint that I'm going to have a large lump of a baby (terrified of giving birth emoticon!)

Congrats Lizzy on your BFP. Welcome to the madhouse thread.

nolongerNMCB love the name change, but it took me ages to work out who it was Blush.

Vallinna am in a similar position with maternity clothes. Am 18 weeks and still not really needing full on maternity wear yet, and really don't like any I've seen anyway. I'm making do with floaty shirt tops from Matalan in a bigger size than usual, and with a couple of jumper dresses from Vertbaudet. I've got a couple of pairs of mat trousers from Next but am really not impressed. I normally take an 8-10 (usually 10 on the bum!) and their 8's are too tight over the rear end, and the 10's fall down (literally Blush) are worse than useless. My current favourite trousers are some very cheap (£9.50) jogging bottoms from M&S, which are totally unbranded or marked (no stripes or anything) and are just black and stretchy and lovely! Shame they're a bit thin fabric-wise and will probably bobble up really quickly.

DH and I are going to Glyndebourne in a couple of months. Am very excited but now have to work out what on earth to wear to a black tie night out at 7 months pregnant. I think a serious look at IO is in order.

takethatlady · 16/03/2011 07:48

vallinna I'm with you on the wine tantrums. You know what would have calmed you down? Wine!

lizzy CONGRATULATIONS!! So excited to have a new viroid join the ranks :) Sending you sticky thoughts ....

nomorechoc I'm glad you explained your identity on the June Thread or I'd never have been sure it was you Grin Great name ha ha, PMSL. Oops - lucky I scrolled up to check your post then. Obviously I'm referring to the fanjo name, and not to Daisy, which is lovely :)

esk don't get me back on my rant about the crapness of maternity clothes. Just bought a dress for a wedding and it's okay - strapless purple number - but they seem to think that

I'm usually an 8 on top (no boobs) and a 10 on the bottom (disproportionate bum and thighs Grin) and my Next under-bump jeans STILL do not fit (Im 25+3!!! and though people keep telling me I'm small and have a 'neat' or 'compact' bump the MW measured it yesterday at my 25 week appointment and said it was perfect size - if anything a little above average!). No advice on any other type of trousers vallinna as I haven't bought any other mat trousers except leggings, and am also going with the jumper dress option and 3 dresses I found on ASOS. Gave up on trousers entirely ...
