Calling The Viroids - Just Shagging Graduates!

gormers · 13/08/2010 19:57

Just thought I'd start a thread for all those JS graduates, whether a newbie graduate or even if you left us a while ago and are well on your way. Would be good for us to keep in touch, see if we're all staying 'sane'. Grin

Don't know about you ladies, but I am still filled with the overwhelming urge to PIAR (that's POAS for all you older graduates - after you left us we went a little mad and started harnessing the power of the ramekin!) I think once you start the habit it doesn't leave you!

Well, it's good to know that the Just Shagging method works. Even if we did once in a while just cheat a teeny tiny little bit! Wink

I've not actually changed bra size. They're definitely fuller but I don't think they'd recovered from my weight loss a couple of years ago!

I have mothercare stretchy crop tops and wrap style bras which should, in theory, do me a couple of weeks until boob size settles enough to get decent feeding bras.

vallinnapod · 26/02/2011 18:58

Some feedback on my ASOS purchases. Very disappointing :( The 'soft touch' vests just feel cheap, and have very little growing room. The wrap dress was just odd, either I am completely the wrong shape or it is really badly designed. The tie is too high and the hem is very odd. I realise I have quite a bit of bump to grow but I didn't see how this would work. The rauched work top was again very cheap feeling, although much more room in the tummy. The shirt is fine, massive everywhere, apart from the boobs - I may keep it. The FC dress and the shorts were both great. Returning everything else :(

Which leaves me with nothing to wear to work!

Does anyone know if nursing tops are suitable maternity attire? Mothercare has a 3 for 2 on lots of tops.

Sorry for the grumble xx

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 26/02/2011 19:24

You mean the nursing vests? I've been living in them but I'd say go try them on.

vallinnapod · 26/02/2011 19:44

Yep - thanks for the advice!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 27/02/2011 10:13

That's a pity Vallinna. Internet shopping is frustrating in how hit and miss it can be. I nursing tops(bras) were no good for pregnancy I'd have been hanging out for the last four months! So if it looks good and feels comfy, go for it!

We FIANLLY decided on a push chair yesterday. It's a Mothercare own brand one, but has all the features we are after, is marked down in price and as it's on the baby plan if they drop the price anymore we can go in and have the price amended Grin. Now we just need to find a new home and we're all sorted.

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 27/02/2011 10:18

finally. bah

cowboylover · 27/02/2011 16:16

Good news NMCB! Its such a hard decision I think, which one did you decide to go for? I am going to order mine tomorrow which was the first one I saw that I liked but didnt like the colour and now they have a new colour so going for that one.

Still trying to clean out the laundry room nursery before we go get the furniture, I cant believe how much junk we have accumilated in this house in only 3 years!

My boobs have been hard to work out I was up to a G by 16 weeks then down to a E again but 22 week after I lost the weight now I am inbetween the F and G but started 'leaking' this week so Confused what they will be with milk!

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 27/02/2011 16:20

Hello all. I am still here and (I assume) still pregnant, but also still waiting for bloody landline and internet connection to be set up in the new place, hence lack of posting. Hope everyone is okay and not too tired/heartburny/constipated/hormental etc. :)

vallinnapod · 27/02/2011 16:51

Afternoon all, having a 'fat' weekend. Don't look PG but do look like I've eaten all the transformer snacks Wink. Off out in a mo to have dinner and see The King's Speech.

Nice to see you again star.

NMCB I too am intrigued which model you went for Grin

Stressing a little as been eying lots of cinnamon and now I read it's bad for pregnant women as it is used to bring on periods and induced labour Confused so obviously now I am convinced I am really crampy...

Can I be annoying? I've rather lost track, can we do a round up of EDDs?

Vallinnapod - 04.09.2011

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 27/02/2011 20:25

I went for the Mothercare Xcursion travel system. I'm rather worried now as it seems to have lots of really bad reviews on the website. I daren't tell DH as it's so hard pinning him down to a decision in the first place.

Welcome back Star. Good to hear you're settling into your new place and that all is well with you and bump.

Eskarina · 27/02/2011 22:20

Not annoying at all NMCB - was intending to do something similar soon as I had an inkling that some people must be getting quite close.

Vallinnapod - 04.09.2011

Hope you enjoyed the King's Speech Vallinna We went on Friday and thought it was fab!

Nice to see you again Star. Hope the internet/phone gets sorted soon.

I don't want to go back to work. It's been 1/2 term and I quite like laying around in the mornings! My normal nursery nurse is off for the next few weeks as she's having a really icky sounding operation on her foot, so I've got other lovely ladies standing in for her, but it's not the same as having the same person all the time.

That's actually rather close.... I keep waking with odd twinges and panicking that it's labour. Of course I'll now go all the way to 42 weeks and be induced!

Good luck with work, esk. Hope your regular NN recovers well. Change is annoying at the best of times but doubly so when PG!

Morning all! Loving the clothes gripes. I'm still in my normal jeans, but time is rapidly running out. The M&Ps jeans I bought need to go back. I've bought a few decent tops from Seraphine, but I've got no decent dresses or bottoms. I had a big office meeting last monday and again today. I tried on my pre-preg jumper dress and simply looked like a sack of potatoes!

I'm soooo not going to get a nice tidy baby bump. Already my bump starts under my boobs. It's not really enough to make me look preggers, just fecking fat!!

And nursery furniture....no idea where to start! I've been looking at M&Ps, but while I like the furniture, I don't like the prices! Where are you guys looking?

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 28/02/2011 09:46

Be glad you don't live in France then SnapFrak Apparently there you aren't considered due until 42 weeks! So could go as long as 44 weeks.

Man I know some random stuff.

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 28/02/2011 09:57

x-post BB You're allowed a big bump, you're carrying 2 babies in there after all.

As for the nursery furniture I can't really help sorry. All we need is a moses basket and stand and are so far leaning towards Argos for that , but have been looking at Mothercare, M&Ps etc as well. I'm also going to eventually get my butt across town to look at the highly recommended second hand place and see what they can come up with (also a great place for toys apparently and DS's B'day is coming up). Last time round PILs bought us our cotbed and high chair from a local shop.

vallinnapod · 28/02/2011 10:32

Nothing wrong with Argos NMCB - or am I missing some MN embargo?!

We got a cotbed form M&P (at 5 weeks PG...could have killed DH....) but only as it was in the sale. It is currently flat pack in our living room....! Just been offered a moses basket by a friend which is great. As for the rest...can't even contemplate until we have moved house! In fact there is no way I would have bought anything until my third trimester!

On the trimester front my iPhone tells me I am in my second trimester as of yesterday! Woo hoo! However 'What to Expect....' makes me wait until until the end of week 14! Boo!

Also had some frustration with medical personnel. I got a repeat of my metformin prescription - which I have been taking since August, only to be asked why I was taking it...by my GP Shock. GP then said I should check if I should still be taking it (WTF?!) with my fertility consultant. He then passed the buck and said I should speak to my midwife. Rang the MW who was just the one who answered the phone, not 'mine', who again asked why I was still taking it. I had told the MW at my booking in and the doctor at my 12 week scan and no one had said anything Angry So the midwife just said stop. In fact they prescribe to to PG women now with gestational diabetes but if I wasn't having problems there was no need to take it, not that it would harm the baby. Obviously very healthy, finally conceived LO inside me but I wonder if I should follow the 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' and carry on' or the very generalised 'stop' from MW who didn't know anything about me? I am worried stopping will now make me more at risk of GD? Next actual MW appt on 14th March so will ask then but just really Confused and Angry that no one wants to take a definitative answer related to me. Rant over Grin

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 28/02/2011 12:29

I do live here actually! Grin

Your EDD (so my EDD) is based on 41 weeks here, if you don't pop by that date you have to go in for monitoring every 24 hours and they would induce me at 41+5. It's not that your pregnancy is longer, they're just much more pragmatic about when your likely due date is - in fact it's marked in my diary as more of a due month because they say you might give birth any time from x to y but if you've not given birth by y you're officially overdue.

According to most other countries I'm due the 16th but I'd rather, psychologically, have a later due date and an early baby than get annoyed at my original due date!

Furniture...talk to the lovely people at BabyList if ypu can get to Fulham. Bit pricy but worth it.

takethatlady · 28/02/2011 14:11

FFS vallinna that is so random and annoying. I'm sure whichever you do it won't matter ...

Just bought three dresses, the shirt and leggings and a pair of black shoe-boots from Asos. Got the whole lot for £120 so feeling pretty pleased (though also scared ... got a speeding ticket too and have to pay £60 plus possibly another £87 to do the course and not get points on my license. So that's pushed pram-buying back another month Confused).

I saw that FCUK dress in the end vallinna - hadn't seen the page of sale stuff before! It looks nice. I bought a green one (not FCUK) for the wedding I'm going to, which isn't dissimilar to the one I showed you guys recently but is £28 rather than £115, so quite a saving! It will probably look cheap and skanky on though ...

Got my furniture in M&P sale but mainly managed it by parents paying deposit and selling my Take That tickets Sad Sad Sad

Might have to flog a few other bits to get that pram! We've done 40,000 miles in our car in two years and it's costing a bomb, plus we've got £1k worth of plumbing to be done this week. Haven't had a washing machine since December though, so it'll be worth it. I have about 500 pairs of knickers now, all from Tesco, because it seems better to keep buying them when I go shopping than keep going to the launderette again. Also since none of my clothes fit I just shove them in the wash and leave them there. Our bedroom smells of dirty clothes. If the mw comes round she's going to think we're not fit parents.

Plus I'm a bit of an Argos fan.

Clearly MN is not the website for me and my dirty clothes and skanky purchasing habits ... Grin

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 28/02/2011 15:55

Grin at your skanky unfit to-be-a-Mum habits TTL

Frak I guess i didn't twig that French tropical Island would have the same system as France Grin Not sure why I assumed that EDD of 42 weeks would mean they give you 2 weeks beyond that before threating induction.

Right I have to stop lookng at reviews of our chosen push chair. They're all crap!!!

vallinnapod · 28/02/2011 15:59

LOL TTL Google (obviously) says everything from death, destructions and deformity to no problem whatsoever! Arses!

I can't believe your TT tickets, well I can! I remember the excitement when you bought them! If it's any consolation I am seeing Glee live on your EDD Wink

Well done on the mat shop...I rather hit up Seraphine today (online), in my defence most of my other stuff is heading back!

takethatlady · 28/02/2011 16:02

Mmmmmm Greggs. I have got heartburn and I reckon a Cornish pasty would either make it much worse or put a stopper on it.

I bet your pram is great. What are the complaints? I've basically given up looking at reviews because half of them are by people who have bought the pram but not used it yet, and it's almost impossible to find a pram without bad reviews ...

Anyyone else feeling the urge after today's chat to buy a leopard-print mini-skirt and a hoodie from Primark, get a McFlurry for dinner, and neck a pint on their way home? I spent half my weekend in John Lewis so I need to get rid of a bit of the middle-classness I picked up in there :)

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 28/02/2011 16:16

What chat have you been reading? And pass apint this way. I haven't wanted alcohol in months, then suddenly on Sat night, all I wanted was something nice and strong...

DS has gaviscon on prescription (so free). Thank goodness.

milanomum · 28/02/2011 17:01

Vall what a PITA! I hate it when no one takes responsibility for that kind of stuff.

BB I also have a bump from under my tits which is really high - it was the same with dd. But you do have 2 in there so maybe it's time you realised you're gonna be BIG Wink

As for furniture - I got all my dd's stuff from IKEA and it's been great. Never had a moses basket because she slept in the carrycot of the pram for 2 months and then we moved her into the cot (but I know not all prams are suitable for this - something about ventilation). I never bought a changing table either, just put a thick changing mat on top of the washing machine in the bathroom for a few months, then moved it to the bed (but then it broke my back!)I don't really think you need lots of stuff and can make do perfectly well without all the extras.
I'm not getting a new pram - we have a perfectly good 'Inglesina', which is great for city and lifts and things 'cos it's really compact. I can't fault it.

Hello Viroids!

Long long time since I posted. Will head back and do some catch up reading soon, had a skim read and glad all is going well, and a big woo-hoo to seeing vallinna over here.

To fill you all in with what I've been busy with that's stopped me posting.....

As you may recall, I was due mid April. 10th Jan I was at work, end of a night shift and had awful upper abdominal pain. Went to A&E, sent to labour ward & cut a long story short, I was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome. This is a problem with placenta that causes anaemia, low platelets and liver failure, and as soon as diagnosed they organised an urgent Emergency C-section under GA.

Eva Rose was born at 27+4 weeks, weighing 1lb 13oz. She has had a tough ride so far, with sepsis, heart surgery and lung problems, but our little spirited fighter is now 6 weeks old and weighs a mammoth 3lbs 1oz now! We're probably looking at another 2 months in NICU with her, and possibly home oxygen, but so pleased with her progress so far. Her corrected age is only 33 weeks, and I wasn't due mat leave for another 3 weeks even!

Quite an emotional ride for me and OH, with a fair few tears shed, but thought I should finally update all you lovely Viroids with what happened to me and where I disappeared to! Will add myself to top of due Date list!!

Looking forward to catching up with all your threads, noticed the talk on Internet shopping - I do loads of that on iPhone sitting next to incubator! The whole thing was quite a surprise and we still had quite a lot of shopping to do!

Will head off for a catch up read now....

Shock Gormers! I was just wonderng where you'd got to this afternoon. Erm, congrats on Eva Rose's arrival and so pleased to hear despite it all she is doing well. Lovely name by the way.
Lots of positive be well and all the best thoughts your way xx
