Calling The Viroids - Just Shagging Graduates!

gormers · 13/08/2010 19:57

Just thought I'd start a thread for all those JS graduates, whether a newbie graduate or even if you left us a while ago and are well on your way. Would be good for us to keep in touch, see if we're all staying 'sane'. Grin

Don't know about you ladies, but I am still filled with the overwhelming urge to PIAR (that's POAS for all you older graduates - after you left us we went a little mad and started harnessing the power of the ramekin!) I think once you start the habit it doesn't leave you!

Well, it's good to know that the Just Shagging method works. Even if we did once in a while just cheat a teeny tiny little bit! Wink

Welcome back aStar. Good to hear you've had a good scan and you're feeling up to joining us share cravings Grin

My scan also went well. All looks good, though little one was lying on it's back so have to go back in 2 weeks for another scan so they can check the spine. Think I spent ages looking at it's belly button and cord while they measured the tummy.

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 27/01/2011 21:49

Heh, I had to walk around the waiting room this morning to get my baby to move off its stomach so they could measure the nuchal fold Grin Awkward buggers, they are.

Cravings-wise, it's been a whirlwind of pickled products for me. Heavily salted pickled onions, rollmop herrings, gherkins, the lot. I feel like a pregnant cliche, although tbf I love all of those things anyway and can quite easily eat an entire jar of pickled onions in one go Blush

takethatlady · 28/01/2011 12:08

Congrats nomore and star :) :) :)

I would duck the pickle breath but as I'm a pickled onion freak myself I can't tell the difference ...

DH and I are getting a little stressed out because there don't seem to be any history teaching jobs in Norfolk, and one of the local schools wrote to him and basically told him not to bother because they're all more likely to be making teaching staff redundant than hiring anybody new. Trying not to get stressed with DH as a private school in the area has offered him the chance to go and do a few lessons for them (no promise of a job) and he won't skive off work for a day to do it. Plus there's a Head of History job a 45-min drive from Norwich (I'm currently driving for 1hr 15 a day) but it doesn't have a sixth form so he says he won't go for it. Breathing deeply, since if he doesn't get a job, I've got the baby and a commute and full-time work and having to go back after 6 months' maternity leave because we can't get a payment holiday on our mortgage.

It's still early days and there's no need to panic, but when he said not teaching sixth form would be too big a 'sacrifice' to make (the alternative being that I drive our six-month old baby 120 miles a day to nursery and back) I had to bite my tongue Hmm!!!

Trying to stay out of it before I get all control-freaky Grin

takethatlady · 28/01/2011 12:10

PS - should have explained. If he doesn't get a job near Norwich we can't move here (his current school is 25 minutes on the other side of Cambridge, so would take nearly 2 hours to drive from Norwich). Which means we'll have to stay living in Cambridge, and I'll be the one commuting. Either we'll have to leave the baby in Cambridge or I'll have to bring it with me.

Not an ideal situation for any of us (but not that bad either, I know), and I am grateful to DH for trying to change jobs to make it easier for us all (and especially for me). I am grateful, honestly .... I am ... Grin

takethatlady · 28/01/2011 12:12

PPS - also, whereas he can change jobs (theoretically), I can't. Unless Cambridge Uni suddenly decide they do want to employ me permanently and full-time after all Hmm .

Just need £50k and all our problems will be solved. Any ideas anyone? Not sure if there's much of a market for 28-year-old pregnant high-class hookers, and that's about the only way I can think of raising the cash!

takethatlady · 28/01/2011 15:59

Ha ha, no one has been on here today and now I am feeling guilty for dissing DH ...

He's just sent me the loveliest, most supportive email ever and had me sobbing in my office at how lucky I am to have him (lucky I can lock the door and nobody can see me). Just wish all the difficult decisions were done!

Oww owww oowww ... stretching pains today.

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 28/01/2011 16:17

Ohhhh TTL Job uncertainty sucks. We don't know if we're going to be moving this summer or not which impacts hugely on job, childcare etc. and I'm only a 1-year contract at my uni too :(

Anyway just nipping on quickly to remark space on thread after holiday wiped my Threads I'm On. In other news I have a broken toe. It's bloody painful and I want to know how I'm going to cope with labour... Or an epidual if I have a CS given how much I screamed which they gave me a local anaesthetic!

Glad all the scans are going well, and the maternity clothes shopping. There's loads of shopping to do - it's wonderful Grin

vallinnapod · 28/01/2011 17:09

Afternoon all!

TTL rant away! It must be horribly unsettling. DH is looking at changing jobs as we look at pregnancy, selling our flat and potentially moving to a completely different area...!

Had my midwife booking appointment today which was fine. Well, expect the 5 viles of blood!! I am such a slow bleeder! Also had a very funny moment where she asked what relation my husband and I were. We looked at her blankly. Turns out I had read the questions "Are you and the baby's father from the same country?" and had checked 'yes'. Turns out the question actully read "Are you and the baby's father from the same family?" Blush Oppsy!!

Baby2b · 28/01/2011 20:16

Omg vallinna, properly gave me the giggles.

ttl don't feel bad. You are allowed to fret and voice your worries on here.

Nothing really to report here, but very pleased for all the positive scans. Hope your little one is feeling more photogenic next time nomore. :)

Eskarina · 28/01/2011 23:23

Aww TTL sorry DH's job is so uncertain, I hope something works itself out soon.

We had our 12 week scan today!! All is good, one baby, 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 eyes and all internal organs present. Very excited to see the brain and the heart pumping away. We got a really clear picture too. But was shocked when the hospital charged us £6 each for 2 (identical) pictures. Ouch! I'm glad they didn't give us any more.

takethatlady · 29/01/2011 09:06

Grin PMSL at you vallinna. The midwife must have been a bit Hmm at you Grin. Lucky you didn't just say 'husband and wife' and leave it at that lol, as if brothers and sisters always get married where you're from Grin

Aw ladies you're so lovely :) Thanks for letting me let off steam. You saved me from saying anything stupid in real life, so I am feeling smug and happy with myself today Smile

Lo and behold at the moment I was typing a job came up that DH is going to apply for. Just being a bit of a worry wart I think. Not like me Grin! So fingers crossed for that one. It makes me feel a bit relieved that he's actually applying for stuff now - even if he doesn't get the job at least we've tried.

esk that's lovely news about your scan - it's so exciting isn't it? When you see a vaguely human-shaped little thing in there it's very weird. They charge £2 a pop for photos at ours, and we had 5 photos (for grandparents). But when we went to pay the nurse at the nurse's station let us off, for no reason at all! So that was good.

Oh no gold. How did you break your toe? Maybe it's pain-preparation 101 for the birth. I broke my toe once and it was bloody painful ... perhaps it's more painful than childbirth???! Wink

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 29/01/2011 09:18

Esk I am Shock at the cost of your scan photos! Ours are £3 for 'some'; last time we got two very nondescript shots of DS, this time we got six fabulous pics of the new little one in all sorts of poses (waving, profile shot, on its tummy, skullface etc.). Glad all is okay though, I love seeing the little heartbeat :)

ttl hooray for possible job. Interesting that so many of us have moving plans atm; DH starts his new job in a few weeks' time, so we'll be moving roughly 100 miles south in less than a fortnight. Exciting, but stressful.

frak rubbish news about the toe :( I would imagine it is more painful than childbirth. At least with labour pain you have the sustaining thought of a baby at the end of it. A possible wonky toe doesn't really hold the same allure Grin

vallinna I chortled at your mix-up too, I'm afraid Grin

BrassicaBabe · 31/01/2011 09:23

Morning all. It's been a busy few days. I hope you are well.

lol for TTL ranting away to herself in absence of any other viroid action Grin I agree the job situation sounds crappy though.

PMSL for vallinna and her interbreeding DH Grin

Welcome back star

Nothing much to report here. 15 weeks now. No bump, but snuck on a few extra lbs. Researching double buggies is so far no fun either

vallinnapod · 31/01/2011 11:55

BB - have you looked at the iCandy range? I obv obsessed over a bit of pushchair research when 2 were a possibility here...!

Hired a fetal heart rate monitor...which is probably a HUGE mistake as is likely to add too, rather than relieve my anxiety. So took it off to the loo...lay on the floor of the disabled loo, sans dress trying to hear something...couldn't. It does say from 12 weeks (am 8+4) but that you could possibly hear from 7-8. I did hear what sounded like a muffled converstation going on so I can only assume it was picking up on ambient noise (or something really wird is going on in my uterus...!) It was also really loud and kept getting feed back! so gave up and will wait until I get home and can relax and do it.

Not much else here. Sypmtoms still AWOL-ish. Boobs nowhere near as sore. Heartburn type sickness back this morning but should go after lunch. Felt very sick for about 10 mins yesterday morning. Still bunged up (thank you Cyclogest) and have either cramping or trapped wind Blush

Nervously waiting on 9 week scan on Thursday having scared the shit out of myself by reading all about missed miscarraiges.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 31/01/2011 12:08

vallinna I had a weird symptomless/bumpless pregnancy and a weird motionless baby for ages. I considered a fetal heart monitor thingy but got talked out of it as I have an anterior placenta anyway so even the MW can't hear a thing!

Shock at the price of pics! We get our scan pics all put onto a USB key if we want. And they all go into a file you get to take home so we can scan them in to the computer! 3 weeks until my final scan (unless baby hasn't turned and I end up with a scan to confirm position at 37 weeks before a CS).

I think I'm just about starting to feel uncomfortable now as I'm not able to move around due to the toe and baby is definitely pretty big!

So... the toe.... I actually broke it at the airport, not entirely sure how, then proceeded to fly home (10 hours in transit) with it hurting like hell, scruffily bandaged by the first aider at the airport, walking when I had to and begging a wheelchair when we could which probably pushed it all out of whack and made the eventual treatment and recovery all the more difficult! Thankfully the university is closed today as we're in the middle of a tropical storm (literally, the eye right now because it's sunny and nice!) but there's flooding all over the place and the roads are deemed unsafe, so no work for me = extra recovery time til Thursday.

Bloody painful, but yes, probably worse than childbirth as it's localised and there's no incentive, plus with childbirth I'm hoping it's over quicker than this!

Good news on the job front ttl. Will be keeping fingers crossed for your DH.

bb have a look at babyjogger - they have a cute double.

takethatlady · 31/01/2011 12:54

Love the name frakkle :) Where do you work again? Sounds very exotic compared to Norwich, where the most you can hope for to get you off work is a bit of drizzle! Not that I should congratulate you being in the eye of a tropical storm - I hope the storm leaves harmlessly as soon as your toe is better!

vallinna any more luck with the doppler? I am 19+1 today but still can't feel the baby, but I'm not stressing. I hated the first few weeks and all the stuff you could google (mmc being the worst) but it really is rare ... and I know it won't stop you googling Wink

Supposed to be reading 3 dissertations by noon and giving them a mark. It's 12.53, I've read half of one. Whoops. Thinking about what chocolate I should buy to keep me going ....

Wispa?
Mint Aero?
Galaxy Caramel?

The choice is endless Grin

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 31/01/2011 13:12

Wispa.

No. I changed my mind.

Mint aero.

Actually, galaxy caramel.

No, Wispa!

I'm in the middle of the Indian Ocean (v near Mauritius). Tropical storm is, um, quite fun I guess if you're not stuck at home and missing the first day of term and worrying about how the heck you're going to manage to get the teaching hours in to do the assessments! But providential timing I suppose.

Not that I'm doing anything I should be!

takethatlady · 31/01/2011 13:22

Oh my God I need to broaden my search criteria when I look for uni jobs Grin.

Near Mauritius?! Envy Envy Envy

I bet you can't get Wispas there though ....

Went with Wispa Gold. Perfect combination of caramel and Wispa.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 31/01/2011 13:36

Nope, no Wispas :(

Aren't you an Englishy bod? Do you speak French? If so you could probably come and work here but your DH would be scuppered!

BrassicaBabe · 31/01/2011 14:02

In the interest of sharing...I'm finding I have to sit up straight to wee "effectively" Blush. If I slump like I normally would it takes ages to finish. Anyone else? No? I'll get my coat....

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 31/01/2011 14:14

Not alone at all. I now find I have to sit up straight, then sort of rock backwards and forwards and sometimes wait a little for baby to shift!

It was bad around 16 weeks, got better and has recently got quite back again so I think it depends on the position of your uterus relative to your bladder/urethra. Sitting up straight lifts it up and takes the pressure off.

vallinnapod · 31/01/2011 14:44

Lol (in the most sympathetic way possible!) at your toe Frak I have broken a couple before and was convinced I was crippled for life Grin In my eyes you PG has flown by. It's exciting, from my PoV, to 'be with' a viroid who has nearly been through it all!

TTL not trying again until home time! I am being hopeful that I would hear anything at this stage but it would be nice :)

BB - the only issue I have with weeing is the frequency - but to be fair I was like a racehorse before PG so don't think I am any worse now!

takethatlady · 31/01/2011 16:20

I am a bit jealous of all your weeing Grin

I just wee normally. Sometimes I try to convince myself I am weeing more than usual, but I'm not.

Only just realised how weird it is to wish to wee ... Confused

vallinnapod · 31/01/2011 17:35

TTL I currently spend my time whimpering and making labour-esque noises when I have to, errr, #2. I keep trying to remember a time going was just a couple of mins out of the day. Blush

I may nor have any other symptoms but I am queen of constipation and piles Grin

vallinnapod · 31/01/2011 20:16

Think I have just found Baby Pod! As in it's heart beat...am pretty sure it was its heartbeat and not mine! Seemed fast enough and it was only on one side!
