Pop, our moses basket is one we were given and is blue check/gingham, really nice, but people have already asked if we will change it if we have a girl this time...er...why??? We were lucky to not have to fork out for it in the first place!
£5 is a bargain.

munz · 20/09/2005 09:53

he he he! I think i've got about 8 yrs at least b4 BIL has children as he's only just on 18.

poppyh · 20/09/2005 09:56

Lizzylou, I must admit, it amazes me how people react over the colour of things.Ive got 2 yr old daughter, so have alot of pink things to hand down anyway. Its not like im gonna dress a boy in pink dresses!!

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 09:59

I've been looking at DS's old stuff and trying to sort what to keep etc (things without poo stains!) and there is so much that I would put a girl into as well...well, all of it probably!
I was never a "girly girl" and if we do have a girl I doubt she will be too...I like bright colours anyway as opposed to pastel blues and pinks...

poppyh · 20/09/2005 10:03

Actually most of the stuff I have is quite unisex.Theres only a few pink newborn things which I'll keep until I know.

munz · 20/09/2005 10:04

i'm getin pastal for us essentials then the family can get us what ever they want colour wise - have decided not to tell ppl the sex thou - don't know about on here just incase thy read this! lol.

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 10:06

Munz, I like pastels for babygros and stuff but DS was such a big buster that he looked daft in pastel blue after the first 3mths!

poppyh · 20/09/2005 10:06

Im going to find out but tell people we dont know.Expect I will tell all here though as I will be bursting to tell somebody!!

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 10:07

We're not finding out, if I could keep a secret I would do, but I know I'm such a blabbermouth I'd let it slip!

munz · 20/09/2005 10:08

lol, well I did think pastals only for the first month or so till we can get to the shops and buy a few bits and bobs that we like.

how many layers will a spring baby need? i've got a snow suit already, but not sure if it will be needed or not - down here it's not warm till end of may time (ish)

OP posts:
poppyh · 20/09/2005 10:08

I wish I could just leave it and wait to be surprised but im terrible like that, just want to know!

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 10:13

Munz you will be inundated with stuff, we were bought so much and didn't need to buy anything for ages...snow suit is good, nice and snuggly. I'd just get lots of vests and babygros and see what you are bought from there on in...then get online if you can't get to the shops to "top up".
But if you know the sex you won't be able to resist buying stuff!!!

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 10:15

I sooo want to know too Pop! Last time I was going to find out at the 20 wks scan and then changed my mind at the last minute....the next 21 weeks were an ordeal!
My friend was telling me that her next door neighbour asked for an amnio so she would definitely know the sex (she said that that is the only sure way to know???!!!)...wierd!

RosiePosie · 20/09/2005 10:18

We always find out at the 20 week scan - too impatient to wait!

I like white for new babies, or cream. I LOVE white terry towelling baby gro's, got a real thing for them.

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 10:19

White is beautiful on little babies, they look all snuggly and pure....gorgeous!
God, do we really need to wait 24 weeks???????

munz · 20/09/2005 10:28

24 weeks I want my baby now! lol - still the wait will be worth it and we are v lucky to all be PG.

I love cream on babies as well. LL - thats the paln so far (we've got some baby grows and vests nappies to now) so everything for the first few weeks then we'll see what's what and get out if we can after about a month and the families r visiting.

how soon did u guys have visitors at the house?

OP posts:
desperatehousewife · 20/09/2005 10:30

morning all. I will be digging out DSs old baby grows - they were all white or primary colours - Tescos did a great cheap set of 7 of bright yellow, red, blue! I agree - white is the nicest on a baby. Mine was in white for months actually come to think about it.

Will deffo find out the sex - cannot wait. Only another 5 weeks to find out....aaaargh!

Haven't felt movement yet - looking forward to that too. Woulnd't expect to feel it though as I'm only 15+2 and have a big blubbery tummy anyway so am unlikely to feel until a bit later!

H&M do great opaque maternity tights - 2 pairs for £3 or something ridiculously cheap. They're fab. That's my maternity tip for the day!

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 10:37

Munz, I gave birth 4pm on the Sunday and was out of hospital at lunchtime the next day (we actually waited around to see my Dad and brothers as they'd driven up to see us!) and we had people come that night...
To be honest this is something I will be firmer with...I was really upset at everyone passing my baby around (MIL even said "Lizzylou, look we've bonded" about MY baby!!!)and having their photos taken and just wanted the three of us to have some quiet time together...I also had to go out of OUR front room to breastfeed as PIL was there (and it's difficult enought to do anyway in first few days!)
Be firm and have guests there when you want them...and specify that it will only be for 1/2 hour max! Thats my advice cos I was soo annoyed with DH's family (now if it had been MY family I'd have just told em to sod off!)
Can you tell I am still annoyed by it all???!!!

poppyh · 20/09/2005 10:37

DHW
Thanks for your tip of the day.My tights are just that!!HeHe.Must get to H£M this week.

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 10:38

DHW, I will be having a look in tescos for bright babygros...I found that they were best for DS, washed well and didn't shrink!
And the tights!

poppyh · 20/09/2005 10:41

Lizzylou same happened with my PIL.I had to hide away and BF.Also, my MIL decided to turn up and cook dinner in MY kitchen!(She had even packed her apron!)I was so annoyed and hope it doesnt happen next time.Trouble is DH takes it personally when I get annoyed with his parents. Its just although they mean well they just dont think.
And MIL had to have about 3 dozen photos of herself taken with DD.My DS didnt get a look in.(Not her grandchild)
ERGGHH!!Rant now over!!

munz · 20/09/2005 10:42

thanks for that LL - so far we've said 4 weeks cos we'll be having parents up to us was thinking thou of doing it to 2 weeks as then DH will be back at work and I can have support - but I think 4 will be better all around as then the dogs will be used to the baby and hopefully we'll be in some sort of order with things.

am the same with my family - mum fits in with us - not sure what PIL will do - DH did want them ther in the room with me - but managed to talk him out of that so far!

RosiePosie · 20/09/2005 10:43

I had Rosie at 2.30am at home, and the visitors were descending on us by 11.00am that morning - definately too soon! I would like a couple of days this time - apart from MIL who will be helping with the kids and housework! I'm planning on spending atleast a week in bed or on the sofa in my dressing gown this time.

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 10:46

My Mom came up for a week once Dh had gone back to wrok and she was fab! She did all my housework and ironing and made nice teas, so I could just concentrate on baby...she was an angel and can't thank her enough for that! It's really tough the first few days that you are completely alone , just you and baby...you have to find your feet...but lovely Can't wait can't wait can't wait!
It's funny, I had a brill relationship with MIL until I became pregnant and then she went all strange (she was going through menopause at the time) and started ignoring me/being rude...still annoyed with her for that even though now she's Ok with me!

Lizzylou · 20/09/2005 10:47

OMG RP! I would have just cried in a corner!
