Girls, I am stuck with what to wear on the school run over the winter. I like to wear fitted things, because I am quite large and casual cardies and things make me look frumpy and shapeless. I'm after a casual-smartish fitted maternity jacket in a size 16-18, warm for the winter, and I can't find one anywhere! Next had one in their last catalogue, but not in their current one, boo hoo! Any ideas? And I need to shop online preferably, because shopping is limited on the isle of wight!

desperatehousewife · 16/09/2005 17:14

Rosie - look at Isabella Oliver (on the web) and check out the big wrap over cardi thing. I have it in size 5 and fits a treat! I'm the same size as you rosie.

Frizbe · 16/09/2005 17:36

Oh gosh RP haven't a clue re none lazy maternity wear, as luckily I don't have to buy any this time around, being slobbed out at home!! and as I work for myself I can get away with wearing casual stuff! Shame you have to wait another 2 weeks on for the scan as well, any reasons why? busy hospital?
Munz, sounds like you could be feeling your bubba!
Hi to Cadmum too, not heard off you for a few days!

RosiePosie · 16/09/2005 18:27

I do usually slob about Frizbe, but I'm feeling really fat and frumpy at the moment and want to cheer myself up! I like the cape thing on the Isabella Oliver site - but it's quite pricey. There is a lovely fitted jacket on the Formes site - but it's nearly £150. Anyhoo, I've ordered a jacket from Next for £50 - it's not maternity, but I've bought the next size up and I'm hoping I can get away with just not doing the button up at the bottom.

Hi Cadmum and madrush - good to hear from you.

Munz, could be movement - it's pretty early for a first time mum though. I didn't feel anything until about 22 weeks my first time - but I guess it's not impossible! You'll soon know if it is, because you'll feel it again!

desperatehousewife · 16/09/2005 18:29

RP - yes it is expensive, but i think oh so useful, and for when i'm not preg too. And imagine how easy it would be to breast feed with it on discretely! The one I have isn't the cape, it's the big ribbed cardi that wraps over.

Was thinking today that wer're going to be our biggest when it's coldest aren't we with our timing? Wonder if we can get away without a coat...seems hideous to have to buy a maternity coat. Might look at La Redoute - their maternity stuff is really reasonably priced and not bad either.

RosiePosie · 16/09/2005 18:34

Well, that's the problem DHW - there just don't seem to be ANY maternity coats around. Top shop have a couple of Parka jacket type things - but they're not really my style. Very tempted by the IO cape thingy. . .will think on it!

desperatehousewife · 16/09/2005 18:52

RP - you're right. Can't believe mothercare haven't got any....or hennes didn't when I went in. I guess big fat preg birds don't get cold or something?!

Goose fat is the way forward I think.

Frizbe · 16/09/2005 20:04

You could well have hit the nail on the head there DHW, I think our central heating turns up from what I remember! had dd at begining of Nov and certainly don't remember needing or wanting a coat then! and it was a tad chilly!!! just really hoping its not too bad a winter, as I'd like to make it to the hospital! just for the drugs like!

munz · 16/09/2005 20:11

evening girls - I think it was prob just wind tbh, not gettin to flustered about it yet - want to see if we hear bean kicking on tuesday. (althou I haven't a clue what it would sound like)

well girls autumns finally here - got me wooly jumpers out - as for coats - erm, was gonna make do with the two little one's I have (don't like full lenght ones) how about some of the 'larger' ladys stuff in new looks or DP? - any good? or alders/debenhams if u have one nearby? bit shocking mother care don't do them - do babies r us do maternity wear?

OP posts:
Frizbe · 17/09/2005 09:03

H&M usually do a good cheap coat don't they! and they have maternity, so maybe they do maternity coats???

poppyh · 17/09/2005 09:42

Funny, I was just thinking about winter coats. My last pregnancy I had a nice sheepskin coat from H&M which I stretched really badly!Tried to wear it after but it had a big stretch belly bulge!!

chellebelle · 17/09/2005 11:26

Hello all, have been watching your thread for a litle while now and have finally plucked up the courage to add something

Can't believe how much you've all been through already!

A quick bit of info about me:
I'm 25 have DH who's 27 and have DS who's 5. I'm due 6th March and so far all's going well.

Am very jealous of you lot though am in Cov and here you only get one scan at 12 weeks unless there's any complications or you are high risk and, being neither of those, I won't get to see sprog again until March

munz · 17/09/2005 11:47

hi CB welcome and big congrats! 6th again another good day for bean to be born. i'll update stats - eventually! lol, and add u to them honney. how r things going so far?

just quick girls - u seen in tescos tommee tipee steraliser, bottles and brest pump all 1/2 price - steraliser £20, bottles 4 for £4.49 and pump £11.00 bargin - DH has agreed I can get it all in my shopping this month as we'll need it all anyways - bargin half price - dead pleased with them and the nappies u said about Rp - OMG i'm so sad and have no life!

OP posts:
Frizbe · 17/09/2005 13:13

Tee hee Munz, no you do and your preparing for it! is it the microwave steraliser? if so I have it too! although it didn't fit in our bloomin microwave, durrrr, so I have to cold water steralise instead!! the tommee tippeee bottles (well the nuby teats) are very good tho!

Welcome to chellebelle!

Well shock horror, I've just managed to get dd to go for a nap! in fact she virtually insisted on it! although now she has a bed she can escape out of it cost me two stories!! good all the same, and with ss stuck on the computer I have some meee time! wow!!! better make the most of it!

chellebelle · 17/09/2005 13:48

sorry to be a dumbass - have been trying to work out for ages what "ss" stands for?

chellebelle · 17/09/2005 13:50

what have you ended up doing with your me time? something very indulgent I hope?

Cadmum · 17/09/2005 14:58

ss=Step son

Cadmum · 17/09/2005 14:59

Never feel dumb for asking questions!!! Welcome to the craziness!

RosiePosie · 17/09/2005 15:36

Hi Chellebelle, welcome to the thread! I only ever got one scan at 20 weeks with my first two pregnancies - it's really unfair! This time, I'm having 3! One at 36 weeks to check the baby is in a good position for a homebirth

Munz - I've got the tommee tippee bottles this time - everyone seems to have Avent bottles and if you go to any baby groups they get mixed up with everyone elses ( unless you're breastfeeding obviously! )

RosiePosie · 17/09/2005 15:40

Mmmmh, further to the winter coat dilemma - are poncho's really uncool this year? I was thinking a nice tasteful beige Monsoon woollen poncho, oh so practical if you're pregnant! Would have to buy it on eBay though - they don't sell them in the shops anymore! I'm just worried people will look at me and laugh because I'm "soooo last season". What do you reckon?

Frizbe · 17/09/2005 16:15

Good point RP, still have mine from 'last season' so will do me fine!

ChelleB managed to get 5 mins to self, before friends came round! so actually got to chat like a grown up, without constant interuption for 1.5hrs, marvelous!!

munz · 17/09/2005 16:43

rp - how do u find them? MIL thinks avent are better?

friz - glad u managed to haev some me time, the steraliser's actually the electric one with £18.00's worth of accessories - bargin I think! lol - we've not got a microwave - I blow them up!

cadmum - good to see u ((hugs)) how r u doing today?

CB - as caddy says don't feel daft for askin questions - how else will u find out!

Just found out board for DH's promotions sits on weds - so can I have positive vibes for him (althou it's looking v promising) still need pos vibes and good luck!

OP posts:
RosiePosie · 17/09/2005 16:52

I think the Avent ones are over rated actually - especially for a small baby - the teats are really hard! The tommee tippee ones are much softer. A lot of breastfed babies prefer them to other kinds apparently

munz · 17/09/2005 17:00

tommees it is for me then - esp as they're half price! ooh I love a bargin! lol. (so sad! ) don't care!

OP posts:
desperatehousewife · 17/09/2005 17:04

Rosie your poncho idea is very similar to my Isabella Oliver wrap around cardi idea. Go for it - who gives a if its last season?
