I thought I'd start a due May 2006 club even though its very early in the month for it.

My stats are

ME: 31
DH: 30
DD: 3 next week!
Next DB due: May 1st (4 weeks pregnant today!)

Just been to the docs to get it all confirmed and seeing the midwife tomorrow. Look forward to more of you joining me as the month progresses!

Actually, I expect to have an elective section after an emergency one with DD so db will probably be born at the end of April. But like the idea of a May thread nonetheless!

Good idea on the positive thinking! Mine are:-

  • never thought I'd be able to even get pregnant after lots of past health problems, so this little one really is a blessing

  • the baby kicking when DH kisses my tummy - awwww!

  • and the way he goes all hyper when I've had some chocolate - he loves chocolate, sensible baby!

  • friendly chats with Mums I've never met before in shops, on the Tube - now I know why they call it being 'in the club'!

  • maternity leave starts in 5 weeks time...

Yes, there are lots of nice things. And I've just had a lovely lunch which has so far stayed down for over an hour - hurrah!

cori · 24/02/2006 18:03

Must have been a shock to have been told you had a stroke, even if it was a small one. It is fantastic that you have only eight weeks to go.
It is beginging to feel very real.
I am so pleased I have a c-section date, even though I am going to try for VBAC, i know by the 10th of may I will have my baby .

sniff · 25/02/2006 11:50

my baby feels so long away waiting till the 28th !!!!

I go for my GTT a week on wednesday though and they sometime give you an early date to be induced if things are looking big!!!

I have suddenly got quite excited about this it must be all the pink stufF!!!!!!

louismummy · 25/02/2006 17:05

starting to feel very full when sitting down.even when i haven't eaten for ages. my spd is better which is great but my siatica is back.... but we have a kitchen now...lol

helsi · 26/02/2006 12:27

midwife measured me to be 32 weeks on Wednesday rather than 29 and the head is quite far down apparently.

Enid · 26/02/2006 12:44

hockeymum aha that explains it

I am due 30 april

I think the baby has turned round (was breech) as the kicks are in a different place now (high up tummy rather than in my bottom!)

squidgeymiller · 26/02/2006 12:52

thanks for all your messages re my friend - feel a lot better. Went to see her last night and she seems to be coping a bit better now, although she's still complaining.

To add to the list of fab things about pregnancy - 6 mnths mat leave means we'll be off all summer!!

Finding it difficult to bite my tongue at the moment - I work on the phones in a call centre in a specialised team (and quite often have to tell customers there's nothing we can do to help) and it's increasingly difficult not to tell the "lovely customers" not to * off when they start getting nasty!

on the plus I might get away with one or 2 hang ups in my current condition!

Glad you're feeling better Hockeymum and that everything seems to be ok after your stroke

sniff · 27/02/2006 10:17

Enid when did the baby turn around I have been told that mine is breech but should turn because all my kicks were low to

I have never had a baby in this position before I thought it was being nice not kicking me in the lungs did you do anything to get it to turn or did baby do it bythemselves

lovecloud · 28/02/2006 13:56

Hello

My mv was ill for my 28 week app so had to see gp who is rubbish!!!! Because its my second child he said I dont have to be seen again until 32 weeks pregnant - i 30 now and it will be the gp again.

At what stage should the baby be facing down in the correct position.

I do not have a clue what position my baby is in but i think he/she is lying sideways across me, with the head on the right and the feet on my left side as every evening i feel really bony longs limbs poking and pushing and on the other side somthing round and hard pushing up which feels like a head.

I am really hoping for a natural labour and actually looking forward to it, i dont want a breech baby ending up c-sec. Will my doc be able to tell me the postion at 32 weeks?

The baby's movements are so strong almost agressive at time as if he/she has had enough of being in there. I am starting to worry i will got into labour early and start thinking about all the things i need!!!

Thanks

squidgeymiller · 28/02/2006 20:37

My baby's also breech, I'm not sure when the baby's supposed to turn but my MW said if it hasn't turned by 35-36 wks we'll need to think about possibilities of c-sec or getting the consultant to try to turn it. Apparently there are varous risks involved with this, need to do some reading to find out more. I'm currently 31.5 weeks and still getting regular kicks in the privates, so pretty sure baby is still breech.

the kicks are getting stronger and over the last weekend baby's been moving almost constantly. I thought he/she was trying to turn as there was quite a lot of movement on the sides, but I've given up on that because I've been getting strong movements either side at the same time as kicks down under. I'm putting it down to the fact that my bump is pretty compact and all to the front, so baby's probably running out of room and getting a bit squished.

I was speaking to my grandma the other day and alarmingly her solution to the baby being breech was to "thump it!". Obviously I haven't taken her advice! On a good note, my cousin was breech until 2 days before she was born (I think the c-section had been scheduled already). My aunt said when she finally did turn it was quite uncomfortable, but I'm sure it's better than a c-section!

zzoey · 28/02/2006 21:42

Hi All
Hey LC don't worry too much. I'm sure you dont need to worry which way up baby is until 34 weeks... they v likely to turn round and round til then. They can tell at 32 but if breech it's still too early to worry about it.
just had my 28 week apt today and my m/w dsnt do another until 34 weeks here. suits me fine though, much too busy to go! perhaps you cd book with m/w instead of GP if your GP not v helpful?
My yoga teacher recommends a head down position to turn a breech baby but only after 34 weeks if still breech
My winge of the week is an annoying itchy rash... harmless (m/w says) but annoying anyway! not much blooming going on round here. but so happy to be expecting the baby!
all the best to all
zz

runtus · 01/03/2006 10:24

Morning ladies............how are we all feeling today? I'm pretty good apart from a stinking cold which is driving me mad. I soooo want to take some Beechams but I'm being strong and think it is on it's way out now anyway. Fingers crossed.

Baby is kicking away merrily but I have no idea which way up he is as yet, kicks come from all over so I think he's making the most of still being able to roam around in there. Turned 28 weeks today so not expecting to be able to tell yet anyway.

Been spending a bit of time trying to find information on breathing techniques for labour but hitting a bit of a brick wall at the moment - anyone know of a good book or DVD I can get hold of? Don't have the time to attend Lamaze classes but would like to have something up my sleeve as it were.........my mum swears by it all!

thebecster · 01/03/2006 11:38

I'm feeling much better today, despite still being sick somehow it doesn't seem so overwhelming as it did last week! Can't believe it's only five weeks until my maternity leave starts. Shock I've got so much work to do before I go. It's all going so quickly all of a sudden! Hope everyone else is feeling okay too.

littlemisspiggy · 01/03/2006 13:56

Hi everyone! Into the home stretch now!
Lovecloud, sorry your doc isn't more helpful. He/she should have been able to tell you already how baby was lying. How often you get seen must vary from area to area. I saw mw on Monday (28 wks0 and she said I should now come every 2 weeks until 36 weeks then every week (also second baby). I wouldn't worry too much as long as you are well. If you feel concerned at any time you should be able to make an adhoc appt. or maybe your hospital has a day unit?
Everything is going well here except that I have an ongoing (well since December) eczema problem which I have now been prescribed steroids (in tablets) for. They said they were safe in pregnancy but I'm still a bit concerned.

nez · 01/03/2006 16:24

hello all. Counting down the weeks to maternity leave too! Hoorah! So mega busy too. Boo!
Glad to hear you're all mostly well and dandy. Had MW app today all's well. Baby head down, that's good . Feels like she's lying across and doing karate kicks and punches at same time. 29 weeks, so still moving around alot I s'pose. My pelvic pain is off and on. Def worse with tiredness. Babe will not let me sleep in certain positions - what a little blighter...
Started antenatal classes which was dead good -NCT ones. Not sure when free ones start yet.
Better go, so many catalogues to coo over baby gors and cotbeds.( oh and housework and dinner to do...) Sorry about long one! x

nez · 01/03/2006 16:27

I meant baby gros/grows. Oops!
Happy Saint David's Day to any of Welsh descent!

louismummy · 01/03/2006 22:23

theree was a big thread about turning a breech baby on here around christmas, but basically recommends time on all fours swinging your hips from side to side. also sitting on a birthing ball. i think mines breech since i get kicks very low down. not seeing m/w til34 wks last seen at 28, but had to wiat 45 mins with an 18 month not much fun...

hockeymum · 02/03/2006 08:18

For those worried about breech, then don't worry yet, it is still early days. My dd changed from breech to head down at 38 weeks last time, my friend is due in 3 weeks and still breech but told not to worry as particularly with second or third pregnancies they have plenty of room (lax muscles!!) to turn even at the last minute. The position to adopt is on all fours, but on knees and elbows so your upper body is lower to the ground that your hips. The baby then comes out of the pelvis a little and is more able to turn then. Try to spend time in this position every day - not very glamorous or comfortable though!

My baby is still in footling breech position but it doesn't really matter as he is coming out of the trap door anyway!! so that's lucky.

Hope some of you are beginning to wind down a little now and looking forward to maternity leave. It's getting a bit more exciting now, we've finished the nursery and I'm getting all the old babygrows and blankets out of the loft for a good wash, I forgot they start off so tiny!!

hockeymum · 02/03/2006 08:22

Oh yeah forgot to add on the subject of midwives. I was told that for my second baby I would be seen at 28, 34, and 38 weeks, only 3 times!!! When I told the hospital they were furious that my community midwife had said that. They've made a formal complaint to her for not taking "complicated pregnancies" more seriously and seeing me every week. So I've opted for hospital ante-natal care weekly instead. It's a bit of a bother going in to hospital instead of my GPs but they are on the ball there and pick up when I'm not well quicker than my mw would have. Plus, I get scans most weeks now which is fab!! (they tend to scan instead of listening to the heartbeat).

The hospitals position is that if it's your second (or more) pregnancy then it might be ok to go to the midwife every 4 weeks but if you have any complications, like spd, sickness, diabetes etc etc then you need to demand your widwife sees you more frequently. HTH.

Hiya, Louis -good advice from hockeymum I think. I was a bit concerned like you as my movements were all low too. MW said head is there so I guess its little arms tickling me. Have also been trying to adopt arse in air on fours position (harder to watch TV though!!) and it's at least eased back and pelvis ache - I reckon by getting babe to move out a bit. Good luck!
I've been all daft and emotional by getting stressed about money and lack of support where I live (family and friends in London and Wales and we're living in chilly Newcastle!!) It's our first and so I'm just in a bit of mini panic about birth. Quite scared of hospitals and operations but have to face fact that home birth may not be possible.
Thanks for that vent!
Finding it so hard to think about anything else at moment. Should just focus on work or cleaning/sorting old boxes/chilling out!! when at home.
OK, really hope that rest of MNers are feeling confident and excited. Positive vibes - can you feel them ??!

fenny1 · 03/03/2006 11:33

Went to GP yesterday to get painkillers for my SPD and burst into tears. He has told me I am bordering on depression but would much rather not give me AP at the moment which is fine by me.
Today had a brill uplift, went to a midwife down the corridor who I met in my antenatal swimming and she has told me the sex of our baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We always wanted to know and at 20 weeks they couldn't tell us.
Hurrahh, don't mind if it turns out to be the other flavour but nice not to call it it!

littlemisspiggy · 03/03/2006 14:27

Fenny, sorry you are having a bad time. How could your midwife tell without a scan or other cell test?

TheIncubator · 03/03/2006 17:53

Hi everyone. Hope you're all feeling well. We had some good news this week, had a doppler scan on Wednesday to check how my placenta is getting on as the blood wasn't flowing through as well as it should have been. It looks like I'm back in the 'normal' zone for placenta blood flow which is a relief.

We've actually started decorating the nursery and buying stuff!!! I'd been putting it off just incase we jinxed things but I'm nearly 28 weeks now so I decided it was time to get on with it. Got absolutely LOADS of antenatal classes going on this month. Two weekends are full of NCT classes and every Tuesday is the freebie at the docs surgery. Hopefully I won't end up being scared witless at the end of it all! :)

nez · 03/03/2006 18:07

Happy Friday all!
Fenny, hang in there and keep smiling (or trying to) When dh said I was 'mental' I thought to myself -'but I really am' amd cried loads. Apparently, crying releases stress hormones so let it out!
Am willing myself to have a restful relaxed week as far as possible and that the back/pelvis pain will ease with decent sleep.
Have my washable nappies sorted -so cute, so much washing and drying!! Also have deposit on cotbed and pram. Nursery is nowhere near ready yet though.
Have nice weekend all, Ner

hockeymum · 03/03/2006 18:56

Saw the doctor again today about my blood results. They took clotting blood tests after my "stroke" thingy and were concerned my blood was thick which would mean more worry with the c-section, but it turns out my blood is too thin. They know I have an infection somewhere as I have a temperature and my white cell count is high too but we cant quite find out where. They are treating it as a chest infection still although I'm not convinced as I'm so much better than I was, but heigh ho, so here I embark on my 11th dose on antibiotics this pregnancy!!

Loads to be positive about though, my haemoglobin is up to 11.7 now which is fab, the iron liquid that I add to orange juice has done the job and I recommend it to anyone as there are none of the usual iron tablet side effects. We've finished the nursery, its pale blue with a Finding Nemo border, chosen by DD and looks fab! We've got a new wardrobe and cot up which look great and I've got all my white baby things out of the loft to wash, I forgot how tiny they are!!! Also, I get another scan on Tuesday (just to chek progress and size etc) which is always lovely to see the little man growing away. Best of all it's 7 weeks today till I get to cuddle the little guy and never EVER have to be pregnant again - HOORAH!!!

Have a good weekend everyone!
