I thought I'd start a due May 2006 club even though its very early in the month for it.

My stats are

ME: 31
DH: 30
DD: 3 next week!
Next DB due: May 1st (4 weeks pregnant today!)

Just been to the docs to get it all confirmed and seeing the midwife tomorrow. Look forward to more of you joining me as the month progresses!

Actually, I expect to have an elective section after an emergency one with DD so db will probably be born at the end of April. But like the idea of a May thread nonetheless!

my ds was active on the inside and now at 18 months active on the outside... hes always busy doing something. but he is also quite calm. as you tend to relax and sit down/ lie down in the evening they get more space therefore move around loads then.

TheIncubator · 03/02/2006 14:28

Hi everyone

Sorry to hear that some of you (quite a few of you!) are suffering. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Got quite a lot of movement going on at my end now. I think the offspring might become a gymnast as I'm sure he was doing star jumps the other night. I was getting kicks/thumps on both sides of my bump at the same time. Not sure I'll still enjoy feeling the movements so much when I'm getting goal scoring kicks to the kidneys but its great to feel it at the mo. Also saw my tummy move of its own volition the other day which was odd to say the least! We've got the doppler scan on Monday morning which I'm really looking forward to.

On another note, I've started looking at prams and I'm trying to decide which one I want to go for. I didn't realise how many there were out there! Any recommendations gratefully accepted. Luckily dh has said that I have full control on which pram we get. Otherwise we'd end up with the most funky, gadgetty, three wheeler on the market! However, I'm finding it really hard to try to find a real life shop to test them out in rather than a virtual one.

At the moment I'm keen on the Mamas and Papas Pramette and Ultima travel system and also the Jane Nomad travel system. The M&P's are easy to go to see but the Jane is much harder to get hold of in the real world. We went to Two Left Feet in Bedford last weekend which is where I first saw the Jane but I want to have another go at putting it all together/taking it apart as it's a travel system and I don't want to spend a fortune on a pram that I end up hating. Unfortunately Beford is quite a distance and I don't really want to go back there again just to test one pram. I live near Hungerford so can get to anywhere from Bristol to London quite easily.

Any ideas...?

Anyway, sorry about the long post. Have a great weekend.

crumpet · 03/02/2006 14:49

Incubator, isn't there a decent John Lewis in Reading? They should have a pretty good selection - and nearer than Bedford

louismummy · 03/02/2006 23:02

i loved my pram which was a proper flat bed for the first 6 months ( like a carry cot.) i hate seeing babies in car seats for prolonged periods not great for their backs.
But most of my friends have now had a big 3 in 1 and now just use a maclaren style ( much much lighter) and more compact. It depends what you are going to use it for. I bought mine from lilliputs in harrogate they gave superb advice.

sniff · 04/02/2006 09:18

I have bought a proper carry cot pram this time too with nursery and school runs the poor thing would always be messed about to sleep this way she can be put down to sleep in her carry cot and sleep right through it Fingers crossed x

TheIncubator · 04/02/2006 13:00

Crumpet - We did go to John Lewis in Reading (could easily spend a fortune in there!). The did have a Jane pushchair but not the one that I was looking for.

Definitely looking for one that does a multitude of tasks, lie flat carry cot style which converts to a pushchair or has separate carry cot and pushchair units. Ideally we'd also like a car seat that to clips into the chassis unit too. Not asking for much I know!

runtus · 06/02/2006 08:23

I bought the Venezia from M&P and so far it looks like it does everything..............lies flat for the first months and then converts to a pushchair with a really easy reversible handle so the baby can face either away or towards me. Also comes with a car seat and base as standard and is super easy to put up and down..........we got it in the Sale for £300 but think they are £390 normally.

crumpet · 06/02/2006 09:43

Incubator, one big factor for us (and I think it was one reason why we went for a M&P rather than a Jane) was weight - I wanted something as light as reasonably possible, so that lifting in & out of the car boot wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Buggys vary so much in weight.

We eventually got a M& P buggy which lay flat, with a cosy toes - dd was a winter baby, and this was plenty warm enough with her snowsuit (and occasionally a blanket if REALLY cold). The car seat clicked into it too (nb a car seat which clicks into a base in the is a definite must as far as I'm concerned!).

I found though that I, and pretty much everyone I knew, swapped the 3 in 1 for a lighter buggy such as a mclaren once the baby was a little older - so much lighter and more flexible. Will reuse the 3 in 1 for the first few months after no.2 comes along, but will then go back to the mclaren. Don't spend too much on something that will become a white elephant...

crumpet · 06/02/2006 09:43

didn't know I could write so much about buggys...

sniff · 06/02/2006 11:28

I have bought a M&P this time with carry cot (dont have to buy another moses basket alreafy have crib) car seat and pushchair the chassis is sprung and moves up and down to!!

I chose this over a Jane and Emmaljunga because of shear weight both were really heavy for lifting in and out of the car

plus I was told that parts are really hard to get for Emmaljunga's that swayed me to because you never know x

Hope every one is ok is anyone having a girl and found out on a scan I am still a bit nervous about mine and these three little lines that were there apparently denotes a girl has anyone else heard this

alicats · 06/02/2006 13:53

Just to let all you guys know Mothercare have started supplying the full Jane range, I noticed this on there website this weekend as I was looking for somenthing else

www.mothercare.com

I have a Jane 360 Travel system and it is fantastic, I will be using it for the new baby as well, however I did move onto the maclaren once dd was big enough.

Hope your all well and everything is going ok, will give you all an update on my progress once I've finished this report as I do not get a chance to reply so often.

hockeymum · 06/02/2006 14:50

sniff - I've heard the three little lines being a girl too but most people are told there is only a maximum 85% chance of knowing for sure from a scan its a girl and a boys bits can look like a girls ones if they are tucked away!! Did they give you a % chance or were they definite? having said all that all the people I know who were told 85% chance of a girl all did have a girl in the end!! Girls are absolutely AMAZING are you excited?

OP posts:
louismummy · 06/02/2006 21:03

where are the three white lines... or am i being dumb???

sniff · 07/02/2006 10:58

Hockeymom I am over excited but terrified of being dissapointed as I have two boys a little girl would be the icing on the cake for me

It was obvious with the boys what they were!! she just said there were no male genitals they could see and the three white lines they look for where there then said but we arent allowed to say for definate so I thought I wouldnt get my hopes up but unfortunatly I am I have even bought pink things!!!

sniff · 07/02/2006 10:59

louismummy between the legs where a willie would be (sorry but I have only seen boys on scans before description not great)

cori · 07/02/2006 14:23

Hello, everyone.
I have bought my first baby things today. Just some sleepsuits and a coming home outfit.
I have also started to sort out all of DS baby stuff in the loft. There is loads of it. I had thought I didnt need to buy anything but, as DS was born in February most of his gear will not be apporpriate for the season.
I am 26+5 days today. I have a fasting blood test tomorrow for GD tomorrow. I am not allowed to eat anything from midnight tonight, until after the 2nd blood test in the morning at about 11.00am. Not looking forward to this.

hockeymum · 07/02/2006 16:42

louismummy - the three lines are the outer and inner edges of the labia I think - apparently the three lines line up to look like a burger bun and thats how they think its a girl! (if a boys willy is tucked down for some reason in utero it can look a little like this too but thats a lot less likely)

Cori - I had a glucose tolerance test last week, its nothing to worry about. They do a finger prick when you go in, give you a really sweet drink to have within 5 minutes then after two hours do another finger prick test. You get the results in a couple of days. (Its a lot less bad than a normal blood test really) I took a banana to have straight after the second finger prick as I was starving by 11am! (I would have liked a Mars bar but wanted the docs and midwives to think I was healthy! - I had the mars bar secretly in the car afterwards!!) I got the results back this morning and its all clear which is great as I was told last week that I would definitely have a problem (hoorah something in this pregnancy has gone well!!!) Good luck with the test tomorrow!

I saw my consultant today who did another scan to check progress and growth as I'd been so ill last month. DS is going really well, it was lovely to see his little face and his heart beating away well. They are really pleased with his growth and he measures 29 weeks (I'm 28) so we have a bit of leeway there! I also have a date for my section of Friday 21st April so I can't wait. I actually feel happy about the pregnancy today, it was so unusual to go to the hospital and be told they don't need to see me for 4 weeks (they usually admit me or want to see me a few days later!) so I'm grinning like a cheshire cat today!

squidgeymiller · 07/02/2006 17:57

Hockeymum that's fab news - youi must be so happy after everything else that's happened!

I had my 28wk mw appt today and got booked in for all my parentcraft + breastfeeding classes. Was a littl p**d off to start with as my MW clinic doesn't have any places left for evening classes, and I don't get time off from work for the daytime classes + my DH works 1.5 hrs away so wouldn't be able to come... but they've managed to fit me in at the hospital class, so I'm all smiles now!

Apparently everything fine, bloods are fab and db has a very good strong heartbeat, which still amazes me when I hear it!!

I'm actually really enjoying being pg (sorry to those that aren't) and miraculously seem to be looking quite good for it too!

Just can't wait now - my friend was due yesterday and I can't wait to play with her little bundle and get some practice!!!

louismummy · 07/02/2006 19:22

thanks guys for the info still none the wiser about mine...

cori · 07/02/2006 19:39

How exciting Hockeymum, you have a date for your 'birth'. I was thinking the other day I might opt for section in the end. Especially if I go over due. I dont have to make a decision yet.
The only thing I am worried about this test, is not being able to eat..... will stuff myself tonight.

TheIncubator · 08/02/2006 11:32

Hi everyone. I hope those of you that have been suffering are feeling better. Glad to hear that you're doing so well hockeymum - you must be so excited now that you know your birth date. I'm starting to feel like this pg is actually going to happen this time.

I had my 24 week doppler scan on Monday. Along with the epilepsy, anterior placed placenta, abnormal uterus I also have a malfunctioning placenta! (Not to mention the nasal polyp I discovered in my nose the other day - charming!) Basically my placenta doesn't bring in nutrients and carry away waste as well as it should but I'm only borderline so they said it was nothing to get too worried about. It does mean that I have to go back every three weeks to make sure my little man is growing ok and if he isn't they'll whip him out early. Having said all that he seems to be fine as he's a bit bigger than average.

Other than that I'm feeling really good.

thebecster · 09/02/2006 13:31

Blimey Incubator, you've got a few challenges! You're obviously coping really well, and it's good that your baby is growing properly. I'm much better this week, not quite as sick as last week, and I've been able to get some sleep finally! The baby has been very wriggly today which always reassures me & makes me smile. He's doing acrobatics at the moment - think he's enjoying his lunch (I ate a jacket potato which was almost as big as my head ... I know I'm not supposed to really eat for two, but I was so hungry! And he seems happy...)

helsi · 09/02/2006 21:11

well ladies I have bought my tyravel system. have chosen the Graco Mirage style. Also bought a moses basket and stand. Got great bargains so had to have them!

hockeymum · 10/02/2006 08:59

Good choice Helsi, I had that one for my dd and still have it for this baby too. I'm surprised no other manufacturer has done the autobase thing, it is such a time saver, and actually an absolute necessity if you end up with a section like I did as it just pops on and off and you dont need to bend over the car seat to get it in and out.

Glad you are not quite so sick Becster, you will probably find it dies off quite significantly when you start maternity leave too!

TheIncubator · 10/02/2006 10:17

Becster - Glad to hear that you're feeling better and getting some sleep. I'm definitely getting my money's worth out of the NHS. They've been great and are really looking after me.

I've now started dreaming about prams! Still haven't managed to get out to have a look at them as we've had people over at the weekends but will start looking in earnest soon...
