Birth story anyone? Too bad, here it is anyway!

After being bullied into having an induction due to high GTT result at 38 weeks (horror stories of higher chance of stillbirth etc etc) I was turned away from the hospital on 28th as they didn't have room for me. Turned up at 8.30am as requested on 29th to be given a prostin pessary at 12.30 Cx kicked off every 10 minutes and then ground to a halt at midnight despite clary sage oil, bouncing on birth ball and hiking round the hospital grounds (many concerned elderly ladies ).

DH sent home as the delivery suite was too busy for me to have waters broken. DH came back the next morning after a surprisingly good nights sleep for us both, so that was a good decision all round. They broke my waters at around 11.30, but DS was showing no signs of vacating his room after 3 hours so they started syntocin drip. MW managed to remind DH and I that DS must arrive before 10pm as she finished her shift then and had to be up early the next morning so couldn't stay late around 15 times by around 8pm, I think that says pretty much everything you need to know about her. Drip was increased every half hour until I was having 3 cx per 10 minutes, then MW decided to increase it once more for luck CX increased to 90 seconds long, 30 second gap then the next one. I was caning the G&A at a seriously impressive rate. DH mentioned his concern to MW that the drip may be too high, she said it was fine, he asked for Dr/supervisor who confirmed he was right and drip was turned down.

At 9.30pm MW checked me and said I was 6cm at which point I lost the will to live and begged for an epidural. MW went off to get anaesthetist, came back with her after 10-15 minutes, DH was trying to help me lean over the bed so they could do the epidural. I told him and MW that it was too late, MW told me not to be silly, at which point I lay back on the bed and DS arrived in 3 pushes at 9.49pm

DS weighed 9lb 12oz or 4.43kg and was 59cm long. He is Reuben Henry Charles, a very chilled out boy who has completed our family and is making us happier than I could have imagined.

MsBrandybuck · 10/09/2009 15:30

Congratulations Bratnav, he's gorgeous & lovely names too

bratnav · 10/09/2009 15:30

Just had a response on my AN thread that it sounds really scary, sorry if it makes anyone nervous

I think I am still getting over the disappointment of missing out on the HB I wanted, however I am fully recovered physically and DS more than makes up for the labour

He is beautiful bratnav (as are your girls), many congratulations FWIW I don't think it sounds too scary. Sarky, maybe but sounds like you were on top of things.

Actually, 9lb12oz [wince] That is quite scary.

OrmIrian · 10/09/2009 15:39

Congrats bratnav! I like his names.

Congratluations, and what a lovely name. I love Reuben.

Lizzylou · 10/09/2009 17:25

Gorgeous boy, gorgeous names, what a good looking family.

princessmel · 10/09/2009 17:27

How lovely

Well done you and your dh for being so assertive.

Why on earth did it matter if the baby was born after the midwife finished her shift? Crazy!

angelene · 10/09/2009 17:28

9lb12oz at 38 weeks! Bloody hell!

Congratulations, I really liked your birth story actually.

Welcome to the very cute Reuben

princessmel · 10/09/2009 17:52

Bratnav can I ask were you measuring 'big for dates'?

Cos I am! Just thinking about weights...

bratnav · 10/09/2009 17:55

princessmel, yes I was measuring 2-3 weeks over from quite early on, but at 37 weeks I suddenly measured 44 which is when they got concerned and started asking for GTTs and daily blood sugar levels.

princessmel · 10/09/2009 17:57

ok thanks Bratnav. I have been measuring 2-3 cm bigger for a few weeks.

They are not worried though.

A jump to 44 is quite shocking though! Glad you're both ok.

5inthebed · 10/09/2009 17:59

Congratulations, he is a little stunner!
He doesn't look 9lbs 12oz though.

bratnav · 10/09/2009 18:20

5inthebed, I promise he was, I have the 2nd degree tear to prove it

Aww Bratnav I had a much scarier 1st labour. Don't worry what the others on the antenatal thread say love just remember that some of them are first timers so have nothing to compare it to. Sorry you didn't get your home birth.

I think your Dh was a Star and deserves to be praised loads.

As for the madwife well words just fail me silly mare!

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 10/09/2009 18:45

I'm sorry but I am going to have to eat him as he is so scrummy.

5inthebed · 10/09/2009 21:54

I'll take your word for it, I don't need to see your tear . I just meant he looked smaller. My friend had a 9lb 4oz baby a few weeks ago and he looks bigger than your gorgeous boy.

Blimey, he looks lovely. Huge compared to my fairy (she's still hovering around 7lbs, born on the 27th). Congratulations. We've also got a boy and three girls now... Other way round though.

koninklijke · 13/09/2009 14:16

congratulations Bratnav- I am delighted for you. You and I (different name) got BFPs at the same time but mine didn't make it- I am so pleased yours did and that your family is complete. Well done you x x x x

PatTheHammer · 16/09/2009 21:15

Congratulations Bratnav! Lovely to 'see' Reuben, bet the girls are loving it.

Sounds a bit of an epic, sorry you didn't get the HB but sounds like you were fabuluosly in control, unlike the MW.

Maybe see you at another meet-up with your new bouncing boy!!!

sobloodystupid · 16/09/2009 21:20

He is gorgeous! what beautiful names you have given him, hope your dds are delighted with the new arrival.

PuzzleRocks · 16/09/2009 21:21

Oh my, what a splendid weight. And such a lovely name. Congratulations, he is adorable.
