I am honoured to be able to pass on the news that berolina's ds2 was born at 10.23 this morning, weighing 3,010g (I haven't done a conversion ... is that somewhere around 7lbs, for those of us who like to work in 'old money' ?) and measuring 48 cm. He has a truly gorgeous name, but I am not sure how berolina feels about posting personal details on the www, so I'll leave her to tell you his name when she gets back if she wants to. Otherwise you'll have to trust me that it's gorgeous.

Apparently the birth was very fast (half an hour after arriving at the hospital) and there was a worrying moment because baby-bero had the cord round his neck, but both
berolina and baby-bero are doing fine now and hope to be home tomorrow.

Those are all the details I have for now. I was on my way back from a conference when her dh phoned me, and the first thing I've done after getting in is turn the computer on and come and tell you lot. (My dh/dds are out, btw, I am not ignoring them!)

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS from the Ellbell family, berolina. I am so pleased for you.

Budababe · 25/09/2007 08:28

Congratulations Berolina - fab name.

Admit it - you just wanted to be in a crappy magazine with your "I gave birth on a bus" story"!

ggglimpopo · 25/09/2007 08:33

Congratulations! Can we have some photos please?

mears · 25/09/2007 11:57

Congratulations Berolina. Hope the feeding continues to go well. You did brilliantly being 9 cm on admission. Perhaps some mumsshould follow your lead here and use a bus instead of an ambulance

Ellbell · 25/09/2007 12:20

LOL mears... The way I was swearing at my dh when he drove me to hospital in labour, I don't think my presence on the bus would've been very welcome.

Congratulations Bero, what a great story! I am ROFL at you going on the bus though

LOVE the name - will you call him Ferdy for short?

Enjoy that lovely new baby smell (I still love sniffing ds2 and he is 9 weeks old now!)

berolina · 25/09/2007 15:10

Thank you everyone I think my bus story has been trumped by TC's train station escapade - off to post congratulations. I have added some photos on my profile - I hope it's worked.

For several of you there is an email coming

berolina · 27/09/2007 18:38

Would it be insufferably pretentious to put a poem on here? I've just done my first Literary Effort about him, and feel hormonal enough to share... (might-regret-this emoticon)

He feels lent, or borrowed, in a way
the first one didn?t; possibly because
of the unexpectedness of him, the head
of hedgehog-hair, and dark; dark as his mother;
those eyes? rare openings, and that look
around his mouth as he drinks out the breast
as if he knew it all, and us, already,
and laughed amused at what he knew of us, that we
had no idea of: we fools.
He cries, and seeks, and needs our warmth to feel,
but keeps, in essence, himself to himself;
legs pulled up like a frog?s about to leap,
fingers curled together, and behind
those tiny eyelids fourth-trimester dreams:
he?s still the womb?s, not mine.
Or am I just afraid to claim him from
the womb, that gave him up with such good grace
and suddenly, because it seems as if
he?ll take flight any moment from the world,
fear of his loss thickens my air until
breath, never mind mothering, challenges.
