I am honoured to be able to pass on the news that berolina's ds2 was born at 10.23 this morning, weighing 3,010g (I haven't done a conversion ... is that somewhere around 7lbs, for those of us who like to work in 'old money' ?) and measuring 48 cm. He has a truly gorgeous name, but I am not sure how berolina feels about posting personal details on the www, so I'll leave her to tell you his name when she gets back if she wants to. Otherwise you'll have to trust me that it's gorgeous.

Apparently the birth was very fast (half an hour after arriving at the hospital) and there was a worrying moment because baby-bero had the cord round his neck, but both
berolina and baby-bero are doing fine now and hope to be home tomorrow.

Those are all the details I have for now. I was on my way back from a conference when her dh phoned me, and the first thing I've done after getting in is turn the computer on and come and tell you lot. (My dh/dds are out, btw, I am not ignoring them!)

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS from the Ellbell family, berolina. I am so pleased for you.

We are home

Thank you Ellbell for starting this thread, and thank you everyone for your lovely congratulations by email and on here.

Hard to believe that a year ago I was watching my hCG go down after mc no. 3, and now I have this utterly tiny and utterly perfect bundle in my arms (feeding well ).

The Birth Bore Bit, for those interested:
I was posting on here on Sat morning at 6am or so, then even went back to bed a bit and had breakfast, by 8.30 or so I was having to walk round and breathe through contractions, but still saw no sense of urgency ('oh, only every five minutes' )- I was booked in for routine CTG at the hospital at 10, so at 9.15 or so dh, ds1 and I made our way to the bus there... fellow passengers were treated to me roaming up and down the aisles several times breathing very deeply and muttering 'uh-oh'... we arrived, I was pronounced 9cm dilated and then basically everything happened at once. I was set up with mobile monitoring but the contractions were on top of each other so literally couldn't move. Heart rate dropped off (presumably because of the cord - twice round his neck) and meconium in waters, so a combination of a couple of big pushes and ventouse got him out. No pain relief - no time. Tore a bit but healing very well.

PMSL at these name guesses... His name is, of course, Horst-Helmut Wolfgang Lemuel...

well, actually it's Ferdinand Christopher Daniel

MintyDixCharrington · 24/09/2007 12:37

Congratulations! Wonderful news, and lovely name (although I am a TEENY bit disappointed that he isn't actually called Horst-Helmut...)

finknottle · 24/09/2007 13:03

That is a lovely name Awww, happy for you and your "utterly tiny and utterly perfect bundle"

MIL wanted us to name ds1 "Reinhard"
In dd's kindergarten group atm there's a run on monosyllabic anglo boys names: Sam (his mum says "Sem"), Tom, Ben, Tim - rather odd.
Last year it was the "L" girls. Lea, Leah, Lisa, Lara, Lena and Laura - in one group.

WendyWeber · 24/09/2007 13:15

You went on the BUS??????

Madwoman! I bet the other passengers were getting very worried (I don't suppose they had much in the way of clean towels or hot water)

Congratulations, he sounds perfect, and the name is wonderful

Aitch · 24/09/2007 13:54

wow, what a beautiful name. am a little that you didn't spring for a cab, but it makes for a very environmentally-friendly birth story. congratulations, it's so special when it happens for those of us who worried that it might never happen, iykwim?

Ellbell · 24/09/2007 14:25

Berolina... you nutter! I can't believe you went to the hospital on the bus at 9 cm dilated! Mr Bero didn't tell me that bit... (tbh he was a bit emotional, so I'm not surprised!)

So great to have you back. I will be in touch.
