I am really sorry if this opens any old wounds for people, but could someone who has been through an early miscarage tell me exactly what came out?

I know that is awful, but couldn't think how else to ask.

allot of blood.
large clots.
allot of pain.

NatalieJane · 06/01/2008 15:14

I am so sorry to keep digging, but what were the clots like?

OP posts:
ScoobyDoo · 06/01/2008 15:16

Lots of blood, one big clot & the lots of stringy/blood bits.

lulumama · 06/01/2008 15:16

oh sweetheart... sorry to hear this

have you lost fresh bright red blood, any clots, and pains?

have you had a BFP or are you presuming you are?

berolina · 06/01/2008 15:21

oh nj

1 very early natural mc - just blood, thickish.

1 incomplete mc, a couple more weeks along (roughly 7) - mostly just blood, some clots and something in particular that looked like a very dark tomato skin in the shape of a bean and I believe was the already-disintegrating sac

1 blighted ovum - don't know as I had the D&C before the bleeding had started.

welshdeb · 06/01/2008 15:23

Sorry if TMI

I had a fist sized lump of something resembling liver but pinker. I presume this was the pacenta. In one side was a ball of clear jelly with a white lump about the size and shape of a bean in it. I presume this was the amniotic sac and the foetus.

belgo · 06/01/2008 15:25

NJ - it's still very fresh in my mind, as it's only just finished. M:C between 6-7 weeks:

Blood,
bloody clots,
bits of white/purply string/mucosy type things.

M/C last year 7-8 weeks:
one large clot containing enbryo and embryo sac.
One large string thing, presumably placenta.

belgo · 06/01/2008 15:26

NJ - I hope you are alright. Do you suspect you've had a miscarriage?

NatalieJane · 06/01/2008 15:52

So sorry internet crashed...

It is a bit of a novel:

Started back on the pill in December after having DS2 and BF, had two normal AF's, last one end of Novemeber. This is my frist week off the pill, had no AF, started the notorious 'Am I pregnant?' thread just this morning.

Went for a bath around lunch time, as I was getting in, had some dull achey pain, thought AF is coming, had my bath, went to stand up to get out and had a rush of bright red blood, TMI but it was literally pouring out, then a 'thing' came out, followed by more bright red blood and and some small-ish dark red clots.

The 'thing', all I can decribe it as looking like, is the cord, but thinner, it was all twisted round itself, was a grey-ish colour, and had little tiny veins in it.

I did lose some blood clots after I had DS1, this was nothing like it.

Never had anything like this before.

Since the bath I have had some pain coming and going, not really bad or anything, but enough to notice IYKWIM?

As I said I am so sorry for making any of you go back it again.

Sorry, go back through it again....

have you any reason to believe that the pill didn't work? Have you taken it everyday? Have you had a tummy upset?

It could be an early m/c. You should speak to your GP if the pill hasn't worked for you.

lulumama · 06/01/2008 15:56

have you kept the clot you passed? it might be worth going to GP on call today if you can and being checked out, if you are having a miscarriage, to make sure that your uterus is empty. it might be a really heavy period, and a weird hormone thing after coming off the pill...but you should get checked out. horrible, poor you

NatalieJane · 06/01/2008 15:58

I took it every day, but was thinking it could have happened before I started taking it, we were using condoms before, but occasionally, we did a little bit before we put it on, OMG, I sound like a teenager.

lulumama · 06/01/2008 15:59

penetration without contraception, even if partner does not ejaculate can result in pregnancy. withdrawal method not reliable at all. it is possible this is a miscarriage then. call NHS direct. you may be sent to A&E or EPU to be checked out. are you still bleeding now? and pain?

NatalieJane · 06/01/2008 16:00

No I didn't keep it, showed DH, (you may remember we share these kind of things!!! )

I didn't really want to bother the doctor today if it can keep till tomorrow, just wanted to know either way really. The amount that came out, I'd be surprised if my organs are still in there.

belgo · 06/01/2008 16:00

I'm wondering if a pregnancy test would detect pregnancy hormones if you carry it out now? It may be worth doing.

I'm sorry to say, it could very well be a m/c, and if you more then five or six weeks pregnant, it could go on for several days.

My m/c started at six weeks and I passed a lot of clots and bits for six days.

As lulumama says, it's worth going to the gp.

NatalieJane · 06/01/2008 16:02

Not sure I could face seeing a BFP, knowing there wouldn't be anything there now....

OP posts:
belgo · 06/01/2008 16:03

that's true. that would be hard.

My GP told me that if I still was bleeding/in pain after seen days, then I would need another scan to check my uterus is empty.

But if you start feeling really ill, have a temperature, really bad pain, then you need to see a doctor immediately.

belgo · 06/01/2008 16:04

after seven days!

lulumama · 06/01/2008 16:04

big hugs NJ, and to you too Belgo

Heated · 06/01/2008 16:05

Sorry if TMI but some of my periods in the first 10 months after stopping bf were pretty yucky. The first ones were just lots of blood but later ones contained clots and containing stringy material but I know that I was not pg. They are now back to normal as before pg.

NatalieJane · 06/01/2008 16:06

Still bleeding fairly heavily, pain is coming and going, but not very severe when it is here, more uncomfortable than pain as such.

DH doing a roast dinner, kids are all settled waiting for dinner baths and bed, can I leave it today and maybe go tomorrow if something else happens? Or is this something that should be done now?

NJ - I'm sorry. It does sound like a MC; not much point putting yourself through A&E on a Sunday afternoon - will be full of rugby players.

Go and see your GP tomorrow, she'll probably send you for a ultrasound scan - I didn't have a D&C so hopefully you won't have to go through that.

and I'm sorry for being all cheerful on your other thread

belgo · 06/01/2008 16:09

no, I don't see any need to go to the doctors now; unless you suddenly become really ill. Try and rest.
(((hugs))) this is hard, I know.

NatalieJane · 06/01/2008 16:10

That's OK Wisteria, I am not feeling too bad about it, not feeling anything really, don't know what I should be feeling.

It is a very different situation from someone like Belgo, who knew they were pregnant and had got excited and formed a connection with the baby - that would be heartbreaking, but right now, I am just sort of, I don't know really!

Anyway thanks everyone, I'll go to the doctor's tomorrow and see what he says.
