He died peacefully with my mum beside him. He's only 64, but has been very ill with cancer for a long time, and the last few months in particular have been very tough.

I lost my dad too in July. He was 61 and and had cancer...taken away too young, unable to enjoy his worked for retirement. I still sometimes can't believe that he has gone. Am sending thoughts and good wishes to you roisin.

Thanks all

My dad had a good life. He was extremely fit and active, and never, ever ill. He had the good sense to accept a fantastic early retirement deal when he was just 55, and enjoyed his very active retirement whilst he had the energy and health to do so, including fantastic holidays all over the world.
He doted on the grandchildren, particularly ds2. Among other things he made them an easel, a doll's cot, a toy ironing board, a playhouse, engine shed and goods yard for their trainsets, cuisenaire rods ... He taught them to make pasta and bread, and lots of other things. He took them to Diggerland, and was much better at driving the diggers than dh and me!

I hope the boys will be able to remember those times with their grandpa, rather than the more recent memories since his diagnosis nearly 4 years ago, of visiting him so sick in hospital or at home.

Thank you all for your wonderful response
Roisin x
