This special thread was started in 2008. Its a special place - one which nobody would ever willingly come to. I hope we pay tribute to our lost children by helping each other. xxxx

New to here, loving the support this thread gives. My darling son, Jack died at 23 months 16 years ago last Wednesday. This Christmas Day is his 18th birthday and for the first time I feel strong, it's a life journey.
Am here to support anyone who needs it.
You are all remarkable woman x

Morning girls - anybody seen my 'get up and go' because I think it has 'got up and gone!!!'

Hi there Shabs, if your "get-up-and-go" is wearing purple tights with pink spots, and a bobble hat, I saw it earlier today. WinkThink it is scratching around the garden, so will go out and catch it, and then post it back to you pronto!

Finn's first birthday tomorrow. Having a birthday cake with family in the evening, and a birthday tea on the weekend. We weren't going to do a party with friends, but realised that one day he might ask why there are photos of Mia's first birthday party and not his. Breaks my heart to know this is pretty much the only comparator which we have to make "fair" between them...Hmm

shabbatheGreek · 02/12/2013 14:56

Ahhhhhhh thats where 'its' gone - glad you found it LOL.

I hate the school photo's after we lost Matt. One year there he is sitting next to Dan proud as punch with a big grin!!! Next years photo he has disappeared..........just like in the film 'Back to the future' - which was his favourite film of all time. xxx

Hi Shabba, and thanks for your warm welcome.
Jack was born after a difficult delivery on Christmas Day 1995. Everything was ok for 6 mths, he then developed epilepsy, having many different types of seizure, and some quite severe.
His consultant thinks this may have been related to oxygen deprivation at birth, however, despite his many seizures, he never suffered any noticeable brain damage.
Fast forward to 23 months, and Jack died in his sleep (strange to say, but a blessing considering the way medics had 'worked' on him in the past while in seizure). It was a 'massive' seizure that stopped his heart.
My DD was 6mths old at the time, and she have me the strength to pick myself up and carry on.
Jack celebrates his 18th birthday this year, and although family is far and wide, we are going to different pubs to stand the boy his first pint!

shabbatheGreek · 02/12/2013 16:17

Only my other children have given me the will to carry on breathing in and out - thank God for them.

Poor lad - sounds like he had a struggle. I love the idea of everybody sorting out his first drink xx

Thanks Shabba, just think there will be a few confused bar staff out there - but will make me smile!!

MiaAlexandrasmummy · 02/12/2013 23:19

Hello there Rachel, apologies for not welcoming you in my previous post. I also love the idea of the whole family giving Jack his first pint in different pubs, confusing the waiting staff and causing havoc.

Shabba - gave your get-up-and-go a bit of a talking-to, it is on its way back again, a little embarrassed by its behaviour…

Will I ever love Christmas again? I want to love Christmas but I think as long as Sylvie-Rose is not here, I don't see how I can love it again. The boys love it still which is nice.

shabbatheGreek · 03/12/2013 12:55

To be honest I hate it!!!! BUT I can pin on a smile for Christmas because I still have my two sons and my grandson. If I didn't have them I would be going away for Christmas to be honest. You will love it again but you will always have your precious little girl in your thoughts and heart at Christmas.

The one day I really, really hate is New Years Eve - I think its a sad time for people who are lonely or are missing a member of the family. Now that day takes about 10 pin on smiles Smile

I struggle with Christmas Day, but it's a double whammy for me. Last year I was alone, as daughter was with her dad. She's with me this year, so happier times.
New Year is truly awful, but am a nurse, and am working a night shift (at my request) so will have a focus!

LoveAndDeath · 03/12/2013 23:58

The last two years I have brought an angel figurine and a candle to my Mum's house where we go for NY. I light the candle beside the angel figurine before midnight and don't blow it out till after midnight. I feel it's my way of "carrying her" into the New Year. I hated when it was 2012, it was like leaving her behind in 2011.
