At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

Wishing you the strength and courage to get through another day.
Blessings on your home.

DaydreamDolly · 12/07/2012 11:44

I am so so sorry for your loss i cant imagine the pain you are in.
I hope this doesn't upset you, but DD1 announced yesterday she had a new friend called Ailidh (she pronounced it as Hayley without the 'h') that she was playing with in the garden. She said she had red hair. Was your daughters name pronounced this way? As far as I know DD1 has never heard this name before.

VerityBrulee · 12/07/2012 13:45

Thinking of you Expat, I can't imagine the pain you must be feeling. One day at a time x

Expat, still thinking about you all, and without wanting to ask a stupid question, wondering how you are. Are you eating and sleeping? Is someone looking aftrr you all at least on a practical level, while you are going through this?

Francagoestohollywood · 12/07/2012 16:50

Thinking of you, Expat

ithastobeNAICEham · 12/07/2012 16:50

I've just seen this as I've been off mumsnet for a couple of weeks but I just wanted to say I am so sorry for your loss. It breaks my heart to think of your pain.

I hope you can gain strength through these messages on here and have lots of rl strength.

mumat39 · 12/07/2012 20:53

Dear Expat and Family
I've just seen the picture of Aillidh that was posted on facebook. Such a lovely smiley beautiful picture. She looks so happy in that.

I just wanted to let you know that Aillidh and you are the first people I think of on waking. You are in my thoughts all day and also when I finally make it to bed at night.

Aillidh really was a remarkable little girl. The smile on the picture you posted and the smiles on the ones of her in hospital, show the exact same smile and she truly looked like she was a very happy girl.

I will be thinking of you all tomorrow and on Saturday and beyond.

Much love to you all and to Aillidh. xxxxx

WentworthMillerMad · 12/07/2012 21:05

JustFabulous · 12/07/2012 21:07

Seems pointless to post but I am still thinking of you all.

GColdtimer · 12/07/2012 21:54

Thought you might like to see a local charity (to me) raising money for research into AML in childhood in the name of Amber Phillpott has shared Aillidh's story. Hope you don't mind me linking. If anyone thinks my post is inappropriate please feel free to report.

Expat - I am sure if you wanted to talk to Amber's parents they would be happy to talk to you. I was talking to one of their friends yesterday and their hearts just go out to you. xx

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 12/07/2012 21:57

Leigh - I just wanted you to know that you are all still in my thoughts and will be for a long time to come. There really isn't anything else to say, other than I am thinking of you and sending you lots of love and strength to help you to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Lots of love xxx
